Review Zegatos Steak & Pasta Cafe - Brisbane

Zegatos is AMAZING!!!! The chef is a guy who will go above and beyond to make sure your dining experience is one to remember. I highly recommend visiting. You won’t regret. This restaurant has been in operation for 10 years in The Gap. Now that’s food for thought!

We were recommended this restaurant for a birthday dinner and it one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. Firstly, we tried calling just before lunch to make a reservation, and no one answered, which we thought was fair as we thought they may be busy as it was a Sunday. We called back a few hours later and we were accidentally hung up on. The atmosphere was nice, which was lucky for us because we had to wait 30 minutes after ordering for our starter. There were only 3 other tables besides us so we thought this was odd, and the server did apologise for the wait which was nice. The starter was disappointing for the $30 we paid for it. We waited another 20 minutes for our mains to come out, a total 50 minutes wait for 3 dishes. We noticed that all of the food for all of the tables came out at once. The lasagna was genuinely worse than a frozen coles lasagna and we couldn’t finish it. None of the food went down right and just an hour after eating we are feeling ill. Overall it was a disappointing and expensive experience. Judging from the other reviews, the chef/owner is on a big ego trip and can’t accept that people have genuine criticism about their restaurant and food. I have concerns about other peoples reviews about food safety and am not reassured by any of the snarky replies left by the chef/owner. There are many other lovely places in the gap to enjoy a lovely dinner, like the dominoes across the road.

Don't forget to order lots of the calamari. It's the best I've had = anywhere. The whole meal was shockingly good. A superstar chef at a quiet suburban golf club... WOW

Yummy food, we went for lunch and It was perfect, friendly staff and live music.

Food was beautiful and the atmosphere was great. Chef was very nice and made sure we had the best service, definitely one of the best restaurants in the gap

Amazing spagethi a la carbonara. The steak was cooked to perfection and the red wine sauce was extremely tasty

Best food in the Gap. Okay, so it's expensive and not many of us could have this often due to the price, but it is worth saving up for! We manage it 2 or 3 times a year and it is worth it everytime. I reccomend the Carbonara and the Salt and Pepper Squid. So goood. Dine in, take out and Delivery are all available.

In December 2020, I ordered the Sand Crab Ravioli at Zegatos based on a photo on their website representing the meal. When the meal arrived it didn't look anything like the photo. I was hungry at the time (as I hadn't eaten anything for over 7 hours), so I started eating the meal. It tasted undercooked. I ate what I could but it didn't taste nice. The manager asked me if I enjoyed the meal, which I responded that I didn't particularly, as it tasted undercooked. I also showed her and the chef/owner the photo from their website. The chef claimed that he had never seen the photo before and that his new website designer must have added it without his approval. To his credit, he gave me a full refund for the meal and within a week the misleading photo had been removed from the website. However, within an hour of eating the Sand Crab Ravioli I started feeling queasy. Shortly thereafter, my stomach was cramping. Within a few hours I was displaying all of the symptoms of food poisoning. Within three hours I was violently ill. I called Qld Health and spoke with a nurse who agreed that it was likely food poisoning. She advised me to I call an after hours doctor. The following day after visiting a doctor, I notified the owner/chef directly, who dismissed that my symptoms could have be caused by his food, saying that it wasn't possible to have food poisoning symptoms so soon after eating something. Shellfish bacteria can however occur within hours of ingestion. Unfortunately I was not tested for shellfish bacteria, so I am unable to clinically confirm that the meal caused my food poisoning. This is not though the first undercooked meal my fellow diners have been served at Zegatos. Once we were served a lasagna that was frozen in the centre, as it had not been sufficiently re-heated. Many years ago Zegatos used to be very good, but I am no longer confident in the quality of their food and will no longer be dining at this establishment.

Being new to the area we went into Zegattos on a Saturday night as they advertise gluten free options and the sign says 'modern aussie cuisine'. My friend and I bought a bottle of wine with a view to having dinner on the balcony overlooking the golf course. We were really surprised to discover that there was not one vegetarian option on the menu and that the staff weren't really interested in catering for us. With the greatest respect this is not modern aussie cuisine. In this catchment area, people want salads and fresh food and none was available to us. My friend and I both work in aviation, she is in a customer service role while I am in catering so we both understand the issues, however, we ended up having to return our bottle of wine and go elsewhere to be fed The other issue that needs addressing is the cigarette smoke that wafts onto the beautiful verandah. The trend is toward lighter meals; this place is a diamond just waiting to be discovered and we hope that we get the chance to try it again.

This place was surprising. The atmosphere is a little The Gap 20 years ago, but the food is tasty and prepared with care. We had a very pleasant evening.

The best calamari ever.  I rarely order calamari because I have been disappointed in the past.  These surpassed expectations.  Thank you Chef.  I will be back.

To say that we were pleasantly surprised would be a gross understatement.<br/><br/>Each dish was beautifully presented and fresh flavors succeeded to satisfy.<br/><br/>Prices are so very resonable and value is cemented by both chef Tony's cusine and his staffs friendly service.<br/>Looking forward to joining you again.<br/>Well done.

I really enjoyed the quality of food and how the staff and chefs were happy to appease my food allergies. The chicken breast - delicious! And bugs on thursday is one of my favourite nights. The wait staff are always so friendly and we love coming here to have a night out away from cooking and cleaning. I also like the healthier low carb options as well. Thanks Tony 💗

One appalling meal I will never get back. First of all don't trust the misleading advertising. Absolutely the worst meal I have ever eaten- upon seeing the sign advertising grilled bugs I ordered two serves only to be told that I was lucky to have one of the last orders of the night. The waitress brought our food to the table she told us 'you're getting double serves tonight, don't tell anyone!' This obviously meant that they would charge us double per meal as they charged approximately $100 for two meals. The bugs were evidently frozen and not worth the $50 each!!!<br/>We were told to pay for wine in cash while I sat opposite a row of pokies next too a woman in thongs. Children ran around our table in pajamas and the atmosphere was as atrocious as our food and service.<br/>WILL NEVER GO BACK<br/>DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE DID <br/>WOULD RATE 0 IF I COULD

Similar to Harrys Diner at Paddington. I queing next to the pokes room to get the best available table in an empty restaurant. I'd recommend to someone I hated.

Disappointed - again. We (2 people) are locals and tried Zegatos 3 times in the last years – there was always an issue with the timing, where food for one table did not get served together but with big time gaps in between.<br/><br/>We went there 2 weeks ago on Friday, half of the restaurant was full, the waitresses seemed a bit chaotic & running around. The front of the house seated us, the girls did not bring the menus, so the head of the house brought them 10 minutes later. Usually one has to order drinks at the bar and pay in cash (awkward as meals can be paid with EFTPOS), this time one girl did table service for drinks – still cash only.) We ordered our meals - and waited and waited. Several parties who arrived after us received their meals and 1 party even left before we even got a meal. After a wait of 40 minutes we checked with the head of the house who advised that the meals will be ‘out shortly’. After a wait of a further 10 minutes, 1 meal came and after about 5 minutes hubby queried about his meal – answer ‘there was a stuff up with the meals’ – so his meal was not even being prepared. So hubby decided that after nearly an hour wait he did no longer want anything as he was angry and no longer hungry. So I ate my meal while he had to watch! <br/><br/>Several guests who arrived after us were waiting for a very long time as well and were getting restless. Another table of 4 got their meals about 5 minutes apart from each other – so the first person was finished with their meal when the last one got theirs. This table also needed 3 attempts to get the attention of a waitress as the potato mash was apparently inedible. <br/><br/>My meal was ok but overprized (steak and chips for $36.00). The head of the house offered a discount and his apologies but what was supposed a nice relaxed evening with a dinner for TWO was ruined. <br/><br/>Shame – we like to support the local businesses but unless Zegatos gets their act together we will not be back.

The deck area has a lovely view (of the golf course), but the passive smoking renders the eating area quite unpleasant. <br/><br/>Limited menu, overpriced. Would probably be very nice for large gatherings where the level of ambient noise was not a deterrent.<br/><br/>We ordered a pizza - very very basic. Would have been hard to pick from frozen/mass produced.

Zegatos. I had read reviews from other patrons and due to their reviews went. It was a pleasant , enjoyable evening out. Food was sensational, not one complaint from the 7 people I went with and there was a lot of plate envy as to what was served. Staff were efficient , polite and friendly. The live music was an added enjoyment, just very laid back and easy to listen to but not to loud. Restaurant was spacious and enough room for all. I will definitely be going again. It is as another reviewer stated, " a quiet gem of a place, so close to the city." Food fabulous! GO!

I heard it it was good, but didn't realise it was that good!!. Was super impressed when chef came around to everyone in the restaurant, including our table. Food was superb and exceeded my expectations. I've driven past Ashgrove Golf Club many times and finally dined there, really happy we did as the service, food and atmosphere was fantastic! Thanks Zegatos, we'll be back!

Impressed. Best meal we've had out in ages, so pleased to find high quality dining without needing to go to the city. Fussy french partner can't wait to go back and enjoyed all 3 courses equally.

Great food - couldn't fault it! Would fit quite comfortably in a 5 star restaurant. The pork with crackly mash and the crab ravioli was delicious. And best calamari we've ever had! Yum yum yum. We will be back!

Great food and service. Went here for dinner last night and was not disappointed. The service was attentive and the food - great. The Sand crab ravioli was superb. I really appreciated that the Chef took time out later to personally come to the table and ask if we enjoyed our meal. He was friendly and explained the meals to us - which I thought was a plus! The waiter was great. We will be back as there some great choices on the menu. Thanks!

We have lived in The Gap for years now and decided to try this hidden gem! The food was beautiful, best calamari I've ever tasted. We also ordered the king snapper which was so fresh with tasty homemade satay sauce. Steak was great too, cooked to perfection. Nice, big sized meals and great quality. We really enjoyed, thanks a bunch and we'll be back!

My partner and i went to zegatos the other night we absolutely loved it. The team at Zegatos were amazing! The service was excellent and we had many positive comments about the food. Fabulous Restaurant. Shane and Tony do marvelous food.. great service and top notch food. An assest to The Gap and the food industry. Definitely recommend!

Dinner. Had a fantastic time no need to drive into the city for the perfect Steak!! Definitely an asset to the Ashgrove Golf Club.

Spectacular food and first class service. We live at The Gap and have been wondering if this place was any good. It was so good, I joined the club! Never done that before. First rate service and the food is just superb. It's now our absolute favourite place to eat.

A fanstastic find in the burbs. Fresh, delicious and a fab new special board each night. Fish special always superb. Cheap plonk (as it's part of a golf club) and you don't have to join!
