Super stylish and and flash layout so as you can expect the price is high and for some might not be worth the servings. Great service with everyone on point and a wide menu variety.
The environment is really nice, food is delicious. Cooked really well. But the desert a little bit disappointed. We expected more delicate presentation for the desert.
Absolutely amazing! The Survey Co has an amazing ambiance from the moment you walk in, the staff are very personable and are brilliant at their jobs. The service is from these guys is outstanding. The food is to die for, some surprising combinations but absolutely mouth water! Can't rate this place high enough! Will definitely be a repeat customer.

Reservations are highly recommended at The Survey Co., which is why my wife and I have never made it past their fabulous bar.
While the dining room may be booked out, the bar is often empty, which is great for us, but odd when you consider the fact that you can eat the same food there that they serve on the other side of the wall.
We love The Survey Co. for their take on classic cocktails, like the Survey Sazerac (cognac, absinthe and bitters) and their ever changing menu.
One night my wife had an amazing Banh Mi. Another night it was Pork Belly Tacos. More recently it was the Char Siu Pork Buns.
One of these nights we'll make a reservation and order two Death Row Meals. Until then, we'll enjoy the great drinks, wonderful food and amazing service in the bar!
***I was holding off on writing a review until we have the Death Row Meals, but when I passed by last night and found brown paper on the windows and doors I feared they had closed permanently. Thankfully they will reopen on 16 January! Apologies for the false alarm Cino's Mum.***
Just like other capital cities, Brisbane too has a thriving but subtle laneway culture. Tucked away just off Queen Street Mall is Burnett Lane, Brisbane’s oldest, which is host to an array of restaurants, cafes, a vinyl record store and boutiques. Named after the occupation of the lane’s namesake, surveyor and explorer James Burnett, is restaurant The Survey Co.
A bit hard to find the entrance but worth it for the great private dining arrangement and amazing food. Staff were attentive and not annoying or buzzing around. I will go back for sure.
Excellent service. Beautiful food and wine. Crab tagliatelle magnificent. Melbourne chic in Brisbane. A very enjoyable lunch. Will definitely go again.
Visited for a birthday dinner and the food, ambience and service did not disappoint! The starters were great - the scallops and corn were so tasty and the mains (barramundi and crab pasta) were good too. We had the strawberry shortcake dessert to share and the sablé was too raw- golden brown and toasty would have been better than uncooked and chalky. It's a beautiful space that felt very special, and we'd definitely come back! For the ambience it's pretty good value for money - $120+ for starters, mains, dessert and drinks for two.
Had a mini Birthday party at this renowned one-hatted restaurant last week. Venue is surprisingly larger than I expected. It was not a busy Wednesday night. We ordered entrees of Seared Scallops, Char Siu Pork Flour-bun, Smoked Ocean Trout and Buche D'Affinois on Toast. Portions were quite small, particularly the scallop dish. The bun is definitely an inspiration from Asian food. I love the toast with the cheese, it is so delicious. Then we had the mains of Barramundi and Moroccani Spiced Lamb Shoulder to share. Hero should be the lamb shoulder, chef nailed the dish to have a very crispy skin and just perfectly cooked protein which melted in the mouth. Interestingly, the side dish of Brussel Sprout was done with better taste than the entrees, what a surprise! Dessert of Panna cotta and Survey Freddo did make a good full stop for the dinner. Overall experience is average....
Quite an amazing meal. I'd love to see a history of their death row meal. Not a bad spot to dine solo. I can see myself returning to this one
There are few upmarket dining places in Brisbane cbd suitable for lunch meetings so I usually end up at Survey Co. I have never been disappointed by anything on the menu and the quirky laneway location is reminiscent of being in Melbourne
The table was booked by friends, just before arriving I read the reviews & felt a little concerned.
Beautiful from the outside & once you step inside you could be anywhere in the world. Decor is beautiful, industrious look, intimate. I have to say the service was fantastic, very attentive . Everyone's meals were Beaufort, would definitely return
This is a wonderful restaurant with a very interesting menu. You will get to try foods not normally available at average restaurant.
Lots of fun and service is excellent.
A must visit in Brisbane.
Have been here on a few occasions with different groups and have enjoyed every single time. Their menu is a good size and it can be shared between friends. Service was attentive and friendly and if you sat near the kitchen, you could watch the chefs at work. Their attention to detail is spot on and all the dishes that come out have great presentation. Their food is delicious and their menu changes often so I always look forward to trying something new when I return.
I recently ate at Survey & Co. and I admit that I rarely am delighted when dining in Brisbane but the food and wine was sensational. Everything without exception was an explosion of flavours but ones that did not collide. Our group decided to share almost all of the sticky fingers and stuck in the middle. I can not fault one dish. The service was generally good but our waitress was typical of the kind found in Brisbane. I do wish they would take a lesson from so many Melbourne restaurants which from establishments like Vue de Monde to small family run trattorias the service is professional but with a dash of warm friendliness and never a glimmer of superiority. Having waited tables in my student days I understand the trials of working the floor and have a great respect for staff but attitude is easily transparent. This said I can't wait to return to try everything else on the menu.
Survey Co. was a delightful dining experience. I went with a group of friends and we shared entrees and mains. The fried pork belly taco was delicious and I'd go back again just to get another one.
It's a miserable Monday night in Brisbane, but that didn't stop Survey Co from delivering one hell of a great feed! The lamb shoulder for 2 (or 3 or 4) was one of the nicest we've had, served with pan fried gnocchi & seasonal veggies, you just can't beat the flavour. We had the place to ourselves, and the staff made us feel that little bit special!! A few glasses of malbec, and we were very pleased indeed!
Great for a small group. Been here a couple of times, once as a group of 4, the other a group of 8.
The food is brilliant, great flavours and always interesting. The wait staff in the bar area are a let down, only interested in you if you've got your boobs out, or you've got a beard. Would still recommend as the floor staff make up for those in the bar....
Interesting location, food is tasty, comfort style food, with original twists. Waiting staff were cool but friendly. Enjoyable experience, could see why it was busy, even early on a Thursday
Survey Co. offers both excellent food and service. We have been 3 times and have ordered the pork belly tacos every time! The pork belly is tender with a crispy skin and is paired with a fresh and crisp coleslaw. The beef ribs death row meal were absolutely delicious. The meat was tender and fell off the bone and the sides of potatoes and salads complimented perfectly. It's a shame that it's not a permanent menu item. The service here is comparable to none other. Our waiter was friendly and charismatic as well as extremely helpful. No doubts that this restaurant deserves a 10/10.
Feels like Melbourne. This was a great find (literally, you would never know it was there!). Beautiful interiors, great wine list and food that was unique and tasty. The dishes have a distinct tex-mex flavour but then other choices include edamame! Definitely will be back.
Been here a couple of times and haven't been disappointed. The wine list is spot on. Food is great too!
Fantastic, a favourite that deserves to be a staple. Despite being initially unsure about the location, from the outset the setting of The Survey Co. was warm and welcoming. The manner of their staff was equally so, as they were keen to help us in any way they could. This set us up for a wonderful experience, which was consistent from the entrees which we shared around the table to the mains, which were very impressive. Topped off with dessert (which we were more than happy to polish off despite the generous mains) we left The Survey Co. extremely satisfied!
Superior dining and service experience. I never write reviews but from the experience we had at Survey Co I felt compelled to do so. Both food and service were fantastic. We were at Survey co for a family celebration with a mixed age group and everyone was made to feel very welcome. The food ticked all the boxes and everything we ordered hit the mark. Great advice was given re quantities and wines. Well done Survey Co for getting it right on an important night for our family.
Lunch date. My friend was in Brisbane from the GC for a conference and we decided to meet up for lunch. Tired of the usual Queen St Mall food court fare we went to Burnett Lane. Food and service were fantastic. We ordered the Bresaola with Parmesan Potatoes and the Roasted Cauliflower with panch pora spices (so reminiscent of a dish made by my Bangledshi Mother as a child!) Loved both meals! Granted we were there for a later lunch and it was quiet, we will definitely come back at night time for a few wines and more of the delicious food.
Sneaky little location. Read about this being tucked down a Melbourne style laneway (Brisbane needs more of these). Tucked away alright! Walking down I had wondered if I was going the right way! This is a tidy little restaurant/bar. Led to the back of the venue for dinner, front being the bar area, you don't realise how busy it is till get there. We went on a Monday night and they were three quarters full. Negatives in brackets: shared the bread (no butter knife given) and cigars to start. We both ordered the ravioli (for me this was too rich. Roquefort and ragu makes for a really heavy flavour), and had the potatoes to share. They were really nice. The riesling I had (kabinett) I did know was sweet, but that was probably a little too sweet even for me. Skipped dessert. Service was good. Would go back to try other things.
Great food, great wine, great service.. Went for dinner on a Tuesday night. Was a little quiet, but it was a Tuesday! Shared some starters:
PROFITEROLE, foie gras cream, quince paste
PORK BELLY TACOS, apple kim chi
MERGUEZ LAMB CIGARS, black aioli
all were delicious. seriously delicious. Then shared a couple of mains:
ROQUEFORT RAVIOLI, beef ragout, parmesan
and the "death row meal", which was a glorified cheese toastie for $18. It was worth it :)
also had the Woodcutters Shiraz, which again, was bloody nice.
Cant wait to go back. Friendly and helpful staff too.
Devine. This restaurant offered everything I look for in a fantastic eating experience. The food, well what can I say apart from it was Devine. We had the edamame with truffle cream which was particularly indulgent, the fried triple cream Brie which matched perfectly with the chilli jam (I don't normally like jam with cheese, but the chilli made a real difference), the cumin lamb ribs with greens (which were the closest I've had to some I tried in china and have been searching for ever since) plus we also ordered the 'death row special' which was an entree of braised and fried pigs tail which was unctuous yet superbly set off by the sides of tostadas, black bean purée, truffle salt, pickled garlic cloves chillis and onion finished with a coriander and lime dressing. The pickles and dressing cut through the fattiness of the meat and the tostadas were crispy yet fluffy (and didn't break apart in your hand whilst eating!). The staff were very aware and I loved that when I asked more about different dishes, they could not only answer my questions but were obviously passionate about the food and vision of the restaurant! It adds to your excitement when you see they believe in their food. We also had a table with a kitchen view so i can say the kitchen looked impeccably clean and well organised. My partner loved the music - it was nice to not to feel smothered by poshness but instead they played a variety of current, popular music. I don't have a bad word to say about this place. I walked in thinking it may be too hipster and pretentious, but it was an absolutely fantastic evening and we'll definitely be going back.
Awesome Food. We chose this place for a work occasion and what an awesome experience it was. The service was superb and food was insanely great we went there another 2 times in almost as many weeks! The lamb ribs were out of the world! You can keep going on and on... Pork belly tacos, roast pumpkin and others (I can't remember now), all were great. Another great find in Brisbane for me.
New Age-???. I loved our first visit and you could chose form entree mains and desserts now just like everyone else in town, sharing plates small sampler menus and new age words instead of normal abbreviation, we need help from the wait staff twice until we got it, however place is lovely has nice feel and service is good. Good ambiance but they need to define themselves what they are and chose a style of cuisine.
We just enjoyed a great night out at the Survey Co. The service was great and the food was excellent. As we were a large booking we were seated in a small courtyard out the back which was semi private. I always have some sympathy for wait staff with a large group as it can be chaotic but thought the staff were attentive but unobtrusive. It was a bit difficult to gauge quantity of food for a large group - but the beauty of tapas style is that you can always order more. There were a couple of lulls in the service but it was not unreasonably slow given that the restaurant appeared to be fully booked. The food was all excellent - particular stand outs were the truffle sausage, ravioli, pork tacos and ox tail. The food is very rich - but for a special occasion I think it's ok to eat like that. We racked up a fair bill (so approx $100 per head) but were ordering fairly indiscriminately (and I don't know how much wine was consumed) however I suspect in a smaller group it would be easy to be judicious and have a very reasonably priced meal. Overall it was a great night out and I'm keen to go back again soon.
Very Tolerant and Quirky. I attended here with 6 colleagues during our one night off during a recent conference. We were in a loud (but pleasant) mood, so there was a few run-troughs of New York, New York and even a chorus of Khe Shan, but the staff were pleasant and very tolerant of the eccentricity. Apologies to the two ladies also sharing the venue!
The food was quirky and tasty. I particularly liked the tapas style scallop wrap, the tostada and the ribs.
The damage was $570 (so about $80 a head), which was very reasonable when you consider we consumed 5 bottles of good wine, a number of beers, cognac, a single malt and stickies. The food came to about $32 a head.
Flawless!. My husband and I ate at Survey last night and were very impressed. The decor and atmosphere was great - a mixture of music types but not too loud so could talk easily. Our waitress was lovely and friendly and very professional. The food was amazing, I can't remember the last time I have enjoyed a meal so much. I had a pork belly tacos to start with - delicious! My husband had the scallops which he also said were fantastic. For main we had the ravioli in beef ragout (sensational) and the pork (also amazing). I was keen to try the pannacotta for dessert but am not a fan of coffee (and the sauce that came with it) so the kitchen created a delicious strawberry jam and tiny chocolate ball accompaniment which was lovely. My husband had a type of fried brie in a fruit sauce which was incredible. We were so impressed by everything and will definitely go back - nothing could have been improved upon - flawless!
Awesome little spot. Food was absolutely delicious, staff accommodating and very attentive, if not a tad bit 'cool', (not overly friendly but service was great). Would recommend booking on a Saturday night as it was quite busy for those walk in customers. We sampled and shared food as a large table and the variety was great. Loved the pork belly tacos and the brisket buns. We will be back again, great!
Excellent Service, great food. Our table was ready at 7pm when it was booked for, and we didn't get urged to move along at all.
Our waitress was friendly, knowledgable about the food - and how to eat it in some cases - suggested which of the plates we ordered would be best as entrees.
the drinks were cold and quick, and we never felt pushed to order more, very nice.
the food was really excellent. we all shared and tasted everything and other than the roast pumpkin being weird (not bad, just really odd) we decimated every piece of food.
the two teas afterwards were fast and hot and tasty.
Definitely recommend.
Great spot. Great food, smooth professional service and good atmosphere- makes a great addition to the Brisbane dining scene.
Amazing food, fabulous location and ambience, excellent service.
Buttered Up. This is a slick venue and sure the staff have a bit of an Uber Cool attitude but we had good service on the night we attended. We let our waitress choose the meals with matching wines and the selections were spot on. The food is rich but interesting and very enjoyable. We were on a visit from Melbourne and I would have to say out of the Restaurants we visited this is the one that stood out on our trip. We were lucky enough to chat with the Chef who was passionate and commited to serving different dishes to the norm and they were!
Staff were friendly, food was rich but the menu reads that way so it shouldn't be a surprise. Portions were substantial and service was quick. Is intimate but maybe a little too cramped, can see why people might say the menu/decor is a little 'try hard', but I enjoyed myself so I didn't mind!
I have eaten here twice - once for lunch and a couple of months later for dinner and each time I loved it! It's not a huge menu but there's still lots of tasty options. For dinner we opted to share the crock pot duck which was an affordable way to share a main between 4 ladies. It was heaven. The wine list is extensive and priced accordingly to a higher-end restaurant. The venue itself is quite intimate but we had a group of 10 and they (thankfully!) seated us at the end, in view of the kitchen (great table!) so we were not in anyone's way. The service was impeccable and I always recommend this place as a hidden Brisbane gem. Ill be back!
This is amazingly interesting food. The chef cooks with care and intelligence, and the bursts of flavours from each mouthful are comforting and delightful. Highly recommended, can't wait to go back!!
Love it. Very funky fit out, service good - great food. Will visit again
Tasty, but oily. Visited The Survey Co. with work colleagues on a business trip to Brisbane. Wait staff a little bit pretentious but helpful and there when needed.
We decided to order a range of (6) share dishes. All nice, however a lot of ingredients that were not listed on the menu and may be considered an acquired taste e.g. th 'Three Little Pig tacos with oisin, cucmber and fried shallots' also had something very fish-like spread on them which was not great.
Soft shell crab expensive at $20 for two pieces, but delicious. Peppered brisket with siracha coleslaw and flour bun average, nice but nothing special. Brocollini and duck fat potatoes not bad as side.
Must say that it was quite an oily meal.
Give this place a go and see what you think, I would go back but preferrably if someone else was paying... Hard to judge in terms of comparison as I am not overly familiar with Brisbane's offerings.
A delicious soul satisfying meal, thought and care was definitely evident in the way this food was prepared. Lamb ribs were divine, as was the pork belly,
duck fat potatoes and anchovy starter a along with the cherry and dark chocolate icecream cones for dessert! Service from the waitress we had most of the night was a little rude & abrupt. The lovely Irish gentleman who served us dessert and cleared our plates was a refreshing change to finish the night though.
Great service and a lovely atmosphere for dinner and drinks. Tapas starters were excellent, we ordered a variety for the table to share and enjoyed the different tastes. Mains were inconsistant, shredded pork was lovely, corn fritters didn't receive good reviews. Overall an enjoyable evening but some tweeking of the main courses needed.
Very nice little place. Food was amazing. Staff where extremely helpful. Reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.
Can't wait to go again. Firstly, kudos to Survey Co for hiring & training good staff, it was the first time in ages a barely legal waiter hasn't tried to explain the concept of 'share plates' to me and my table (Sake, Ortiga, Public I'm looking at you). I had an issue with my very overdone treacle dumplings, they were swiftly removed from table, a replacement was offered but I declined, it came off the bill, all dealt with efficiently, no over the top apologies or snarkiness.
The wine list is reasonably priced with some really interesting little numbers in there. The menu is extremely minimalist, if you have allergies or dislikes I would advise you to probe for more information from your waiter. Scallops with avocado were surprisingly tasty, with a weird but nice little fishy gel (not mentioned on the menu), the ubiquitous steamed bun was nice but a bit bland & overly sweet. Pork shoulder was the real winner, 'pork shoulder, tomatillo, tortilla' didn't give much away and we were certainly surprised when a banana leaf parcel was unwrapped at table to reveal a wet pork mix, garnished with pumpkin seeds & pinenuts and a pretty darn hot & delicious tomatillo emulsion. Seriously yum although a bit hot for my friend.
Desserts were a bit disappointing in execution, slightly overcooked choux pastry profiterols, and a salted caramel that was more like a salted condensed milk, and the aforementioned dumpling bullets, which mind you and i am still keen to try again!
But overall a solid dining experience, great decor and atmosphere, and I really want to try the beef, kontatsu, nori number ...and probably the spatchcock with kim chi slaw and ...
Completely empty on a saturday afternoon. No idea why.. This place is awesome and I would have stayed all afternoon if I didn't have shopping to do. The Wine and food is fantastic and I can't wait to go back.
New chef, new menu, new vibe and wickedly amazing food! Nick has most certainly arrived and along with him is his signature deconstruction of modern ballsy food ever do delicately paired with ambitious flavours and a visible palate that honors the integrity of the food itself. Equally so, the cocktails will set any heart on fire with their eccentric savory flavour combinations! Thank you Survey Co - keep up the amazing work!
Excellent value for money. What a treat this restaurant is. An enjoyable lengthy night with great food and service. We sampled a cross section of the menu and will be definitely returning for another feast. Cannot wait to go back
Loved it! The slow roast pork was superb. Great design and very masculine space. The service was attentive and professional. I would go back in a second!
Loved it but it comes with a price tag. Interesting menu options (my first time ordering Rabbit and it was great) friendly service, lovely set up, solid drinks menu........ Recommend for a great night out.
Loved that we were not rushed along by the wait staff- we really relaxed and enjoyed the food..... Even did dessert- fantastic finish.
Contributed to a great night out. Service was great and the food was delicious. highly recommend the eye fillet~ it was perfectly cooked.
Will visit again for sure!
Very very cool. Service was attentive, food and wine were lovely, and atmosphere was very modern and chic. Brisbane needs more places like this.
Delicious! Relaxed! Hidden!. We ate here last night for our 3rd wedding anniversary, we wanted something that was going to be nice, great food, relaxed and not pretentious and not cost a fortune! We found it here! I love that you could walk straight past it and not even know it was there (mind you I wouldnt normally walk around lanes ways in Brisbane at night). The Survey Co is hidden in Burnett Lane in the city it has a great atmosphere and I love that it has an open kitchen. We were seated quickly and ordered from the small but excellent wine list. We ordered the Scallops with duck ham, jerusalem artichoke $22 - there was only 3 scallops but they were little bundles of deliciousness. For mains my husband had the Duck Breast with red cabbage, apple, fig $36 and I had the Bouillabaisse with rouille, bread $34 they were both fantastic. For dessert we shared because I could hardly fit another thing in, I wanted the creme brulee but my husband had his heart set on the bread & butter pudding with vanilla bean ice cream $12 it was perfect for a chilly winter evening. The service was quick and polite, we had a great experience here we have eaten at both Piaf & Sardine Tin and loved both from owner Simon Livingstone - he has a great recipe for wonderful places to eat. Total bill for wedding anniversary dinner $137 :) Happy days!
Fantastic! Had dinner here and absolutely loved it. The food is simple and delicate. The portion sizes are perfect i.e. you eat entrees & mains and still have room for desert. The only things that were disappointing was my cocktail had old (black) basil in it & the glasses of wine were bought to the table instead of poured at the table. None the less we will be back. Thank you :)
Amazing food, charming atmosphere and wonderful service! I've been to The Survey Co twice, enjoying food from the lunch and dinner menu. The eye fillet steak I had for dinner was perfectly cooked and the dark chocolate tart with salted ice cream was absolutely delicious! I will be back
Loved it. Felt more like New York than Brisbane. Looking forward to going back to try more of the menu.
Can't wait to come back to try more.. We sampled some cocktails, the warm olives and the terrine w' piccalilli, then moved onto wines by the glass with mains - the bouillabaisse, gnocchi & eye fillet béarnaise. All très bon. Had room for dessert so kept going (chestnut cannoli, and the most divine dark chocolate tart).
Friendly service and great recommendations from the waitress from the south of France.
Loved it!. I had a great experience at The Survey Co for my birthday, having dinner and drinks with a large group of 15 people. I can't speak more highly of the staff, food, service and atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble - including relocating all of us outside to the gorgeous courtyard at my request, and then moving us back inside when it started to rain. Everyone raved about their meals and the bartender made the best dirty martinis I've found in Brisbane. Also, the fit out is fabulous - and we experienced all three main areas (bar, laneway restaurant and courtyard). Highly recommended, exciting new CBD venue.
Pleasant staff, nice surroundings and well prepared food. Wine list not wonderful but adequate. French 75 cocktails were a pale imitation of reality- sparkling Lemon instead of champagne? Someone didn't take it seriously. .. but we all make mistakes ! Duck and red claw were very good as was the fennel orange salad. Will be back for lunch !
So pleased!. Fills a little nook of Burnett Lane so charmingly. The fit-out is hella swank, with leather-covered bench seating and shiny, tubular light fixtures. The service is fast and friendly; the meals themselves are put together beautifully (gourmet serving sizes) and taste delicious. The Survey Co. is a spectacular new treat for Brisbane diners. Try the dark chocolate tart from the dessert menu - combined with the salted ice cream, it may just blow your mind.
The spatchcock was cooked expertly with lovely crispy skin that was seasoned perfectly. The real winner on the plate was the combination of the garlic mayonnaise, chorizo oil, chorizo and the chipotle dressing and how it worked with the subtle taste of the chicken. This was truly a marriage made in heaven, I can only describe this as YUM! No flavours were too overpowering and this was a dish in total harmony. Not only did it taste wonderful, it looked lovely on the plate too.
I finally settled on the rabbit crepinette. The coarse terrine sausage sitting atop a flavour-packed puree of sweet peas, balanced with a burst of red grapefruit, was an excellent choice.
The other entrées around the table were also well re
Good food. Slow service on a Tuesday night. A bit pricey but very good lavender creme brulee
Attentive service on a Thursday night with a quiet atmosphere, but easy to see that this place would be busy after work on Friday. Food was good, my rare steak was actually rare. Interesting food on the upper side of price to be expected from the quality of this centrally located venue. Looking forward to bringing a larger group.
I have had meals here 3 times, twice for lunch and once for dinner and drinks. Every time the food has been amazing, excellent atmosphere and great service. It's hard to pick favourites, it's all great, but definitely try the pork belly tacos and pork tonkatsu for entree.
The restaurant is situated in the ground level of an old building, and the exterior of the building has also been refurbished to be part of the interior of the restaurant. The kitchen is visible behind glass along most of the length of the dining rooms.
Service and food were fantastic, absolutely no complaints!
I did find the ex-alley area where we were seated a bit noisy though.
Amazing service in a really cool space. Modern Australian cuisine, great cocktails, and really delicious food!
