Review Brio Breakfast - Brisbane

Roshni Shivadas
Saw this really nice place which is open for breakfast early morning on our way to Teneriffe and decided to have brekkie from theređŸ± And it turned out to be really amazing. Absolutely loved the Corn Fritters and Brekkie Board here. The cold pressed detox was nice and refreshing. Defenitely what I wanted to start the day with. Will be visiting Brio again for sure.

This is hands down my favourite breakfast spot in Brisbane. The avocado toast is delicious and slightly different from similar dishes at other restaurants. I recommend it as a starter to share, or add some eggs and make a meal of it! The wraps are delicious as well, I honestly haven’t had anything here i haven’t loved. Great food, great coffee, great atmosphere.

One of the best brekky spots, good service and always exceptional tasty good quality food. Highly recommend the Salmon & Mushrooms .. deliciousness

Highly recommend the avo on toast! Great little place to come for breakfast/brunch, very well priced plus the food is delicious. Heaps of options on the menu to suit everyone!

Loved this place. Good food and friendly service has combined to make Brio a long standing institutions where other places on Vernon Terrace have fallen by the wayside. Feel free to customise your brekky anyway you like!

Fantastic staff, great coffee! A tranquil place to relax and soak up the relaxing atmosphere on a quiet Sunday morning. Grab a table with shade as it gets quite hot when the sun hits. They do have ceiling fans and parking on the street. I love the beautiful restored architecture of this heritage listed Woolstore, and if you have spare time, I can highly recommend a slow walk along the Teneriffe Boardwalk - cross Vernon Tce and head towards the Brisbane River. Take a hat!

Cafe has just been taken over by new owners and they're doing a fantastic job. Food was delicious, superbly presented, fresh and hot. Coffee was really nice too, perfect. Great work guys, keep it up.

Lovely understanding staff. No problems working around gluten free, dairy free customer. Gluten free bagel was DELICIOUS!!! Husband tells me the crispy bacon, thick lamb sausage and fluffy hashbrown were perfection. Juice options are varied and the two we tried were fabulous. We had gluten free breakfast burrito, breaky board, tropic juice, pear/watermelon/mint juice. Thanks for your yummy food and friendly service!

Great service, and even better vegetarian options! Popeye (spinach) pancakes is something I haven’t seen before but enjoyed. The dish was quite overwhelmingly sweet in the end but worth a try. It’s also dog friendly which is a plus.

Place was super cute with amazing juices. Food was yummy with a wide selection. Would definitely come back with friends again. Service was unorganised tho.

Great coffee! Old man was in town and needed a coffee to suit his standards...nailed it! Staff was friendly and easy to chat with, prices very reasonable for the location.

We came here for Sunday brunch and were pleased with everything. The coffee was smooth and the staff were lovely. The food was tasty and, although on a main road, traffic wasn't loud or annoying. We'd come back here again.

Tucked under the trendy and old-fashioned London Woolstore in Tenneriffe, Brio and many of its surrounding partners have adapted a unique style for how they are outlayed being accessible by basically every transport system there is. This has grown from its titular smoothie bar right into one of the places within this pocket of Brisbane to be seen at. And it is alright, though lacks much of an identity that would really grasp why it may or may not work. <br/><br/>During one weekend, my house mate's daughter - along with a friend of her's in tow - was up in Brisbane for the weekend from Sydney. With me, I had the usual weekend routine where I would have church on the Saturday which more or less ruled out that day, so it was on the Sunday that was the day to scope out somewhere to have for breakfast, and it was all on my shoulders to find that place. The real clincher was that this place had such a high rating, and is consistently mentioned as a favourite that you have to get there early to be able to score yourself a seat. Well, that is going to be one for another time. <br/><br/>On the fly, what had to be done was travel around that part of town for a while and hopefully run into another option. Because the first one was in Newstead, that meant that Tenneriffe right on the border. Now that is a place which is small, but rife with plenty of options - and ultimately means that per capita, it is hog heaven. After a small drive, the four of us arrived at the London Woolhouse which had several breakfast options right there. Time was of the essence, and eating needed to begin soon. After parking a car, there were at least three within a shot of the car and from there it was a race to see what the consensus on each one was. The answer should be obvious, because here we are at Brio. <br/><br/>Most of the cafe takes place outside. This utilises the structure of the building really well, which is including the balcony out the front. The balcony is a long, continuous one, which is shared by all the nearby businesses in the row of shops along that front. Most of the work had already been done for them, and with a few more set ups this has become the dictionary definition of al fresco dining - the plants around them giving out freshness, the bench with barstools to look out to the street, and plenty of umbrellas to make sure that diners are shaded. The condiments are ready there to be used, and gas lamps are prepared for when the weather gets cold. <br/><br/>Inside the place, it has the inner hipster vibe which is complete with the high loft, lots of posters around the place, and covers of old vinyls. All of this is merely the kitchen and counter area; you won't find any tables here, more likely just people waiting for their morning coffee on the run. <br/><br/>While not completely awful, what I found with the service was that they were putting in a somewhat minimum effort, not bare minimum per se but enough to get noticed and not drag out the customer service experience too much. Sure, they offered the water - which is always a plus in my book - and put on a good enough demeanour when taking the orders and bringing them to the table. Sure, it is always a good case to point out if it is busy, but a great place can perform extra credit in many small ways during the rush hour. The point trying to be made here is that at one or more times during the meal, it would be easy to ask clients how their meal is - not hard at all, adds a human touch to the place, and is even an opportunity to get another coffee ($$$ y'know). Still, the service is not awful, is at a reasonable level, but I can definitely see a few ways in which they can build up. On a separate note, it is all table service here. <br/><br/>It is more or less the standard sort of cafe menu that they have. These days, that absolutely means an all day breakfast is available. It possibly changes from season to season, from memory it doesn't have anything too strange or unusual, keeping the usual range of expected meals on there. Lunch is a smaller selection, where the focus is off a bit - just expect a bit of the general selection, salads, sandwiches, maybe a curry or whatnot. <br/><br/>The drinks selection is a bit bigger and brighter than most places. They start out with the freshly squeezed juices - being a juice bar and all that - plus some frappes, smoothies and shakes as well. That, and there is the usual tea and coffee to drink, along with sodas and some boozy beverages for later on in the day. <br/><br/>When it comes to the coffee here, there are two kinds of blends. If it is a milk-based coffee that you order, what you get is one of the more forgiving and flavoursome beans in the form of Genovese. this is usually a good sign when you see it, as it goes for a more chocolatey note when done right, and gives you a good jolt of energy. It gets better with a second one, whether that is needed or not varies on preference. <br/><br/>However, if you drink it black - like I do - they have a different blend on offer. It was one that I am not familiar with - called Ground Control - and with the bean coming from Ethiopia, well colour me impressed. Note, knowing what the coffee blends were was after the meal so no preconceptions could be made. That being said, the doppio was well done and it had a slightly fruity note to it, something which is common in an Ethiopian blend. The extraction was done well, and the texture was smooth - this doppio managed to do its job. <br/><br/>The dish that I ordered was the zucchini and corn fitters. These came with poached eggs - requested soft, and they delivered on it (bled everywhere) - haloumi, and a freshly made tomato salsa. As always, something was missing this sucker and thing is called bacon. And it had to be crispy. This breakfast meal was overall well prepared. It was healthy and fresh, something not to my preference per se but this was done in way to be healthy. The haloumi might have needed a bit more cooking, though that bacon was spot on. As for the fritters themselves, something in them definitely gave off a spicy zest which really added to it. Add that with the salsa, and you have a winner. Come to think of it, I almost had huevos rancheros - well played. <br/><br/>I also had a bit of my dining buddy's eggs benedict. From what I had, not too bad, the bread was good, the eggs they are using here are certainly sourced well, and everything is good. This is more or less a dish that can only be analysed why it doesn't work at a certain point if something went wrong; nothing was here, it was simply well made. <br/><br/>Again, when the term "standard" is being used to describe a breakfast out nowadays, that still means that it is all good. Especially within the past few years, it has been difficult to find a breakfast place that well and truly lacks in several areas. This was the case here, where each component of the food was done well and from what I tried none of it could have any legitimate complaints. It certainly has some merit with location in two ways - one where the river is not too far away, and the other is the old style of building that it is in, which is an aesthetically pleasing warehouse. Not too much otherwise that really stands out about it, and there is not any proper detraction from it either. Everything on the surface that is needed to run a place smoothly is in tact, it caters well to the general demographics of the area, and it is for that reason it is probably perfect for them. <br/><br/>To me, like it was written with the general idea of standard equaling pretty good these days, that was the case for me. I like the food, though the service might have lacked in general from the norm. That is the main reason that it gets a 4.0-score from me, fully acknowledging their quality and how they cater well enough. It definitely is apparent why this is one of the go-tos in this neighbourhood. <br/><br/>TL;DR: This is a cafe that is certainly made for hipsters and those really watching what they have (i.e. the juicers and whatnot). The food is good enough, without much focus here and there which is really a detriment to it. While I can't fault the outlay, which is certainly characteristic, all up it doesn't come together as much with service a little lacking in areas, and the same kind of fare to be expected from most places. Overall, I admit it has more done right than otherwise. There is just something that I can't quite detect which prevents it from being as good as some other hotspots in town.

Very friendly service and good food. I had the pancakes (with fried bananas and maple syrup and my friend had gluten free bagels with mushrooms which she was very happy about, being gluten free and having a bagel. Nice location, too, I like the atmosphere.

The kasler bacon (half cm thick) is amazing. Without a doubt the highlight - came with poached eggs and succulent sweet mixed small tomatoes. A highlight. Coffee is good too. Beautiful spot close to river for a walk after. Wait stuff are an exotic blend of euro countries.
Rebecca
Not a bad spot for coffee with a diverse and all day breakfast menu. My coffee order was wrong the first time but they fixed it no issues. I love they have a number of no toast/bread options. Nice and convenient so I may be back

The food here is always consistent. They have just recently got single origin coffee. The coffee is a little hit and miss. I would recommend steering clear from a piccolo though. I can't seem to have get a decent one there. The service is extremely friendly.

Had to call in here this morning for a takeaway flat white as the restaurant we were booked in at had had a crisis with their coffee machine! Low & behold I needed that coffee this morning & after all the problems yesterday trying to get my hit! I scored here (ordered a double shot though) & it was perfectly poured & silky smooth
Brittany
Absolutely appalled by the level of professionalism of the floor staff today, my business is going elsewhere! Coffee? I wouldn't bother.....

Absolutely amazing I have Been to this place about 3 times this week already , great service, coffee and food is just wonderful this is my new place for me time before I start work â˜ș

First time to this place and absolutely amazing experience! From the start, had a very warm welcome and fantastic service from the staff. The Purple Rain freshly squeezes juice was recommended and it was delicious. Ordered the baked eggs with pulled lamb and my wife got the pork belly brekky. As you can see in the photos, it looks stunning and it tastes even better! Highly recommended, looking at the old reviews it must have had a past life under a different owner, because it is nothing but positives from me

Brio has been around for quite a while but I have never eaten there only had a takeaway smoothie. It is in trendy Teneriffee on a shady street with lots of outdoor seating. The menu had lots of different options that didn’t really to go by any theme at all. I decided to have the yoghurt panacotta with house made granola and berry compote $11.50. I don’t often choose muesli when I am out but the panacotta was delicious and the perfect size.

Absolutely love the breakfast here ! Been loads of time and the food is always AMAZING, especially the corn fritters !  The service is always quick and the staff helpful but not over the top friendly. Just how service should be :) Highly recommend.

IGNORE THE OLD REVIEWS AND SEE FOR YOURSELF - this place has been given a makeover, both in their service and their food quality. My brunch of salmon, haloumi, eggs, tomato, pesto and spinach on sourdough was simply incredible, and the service was fantastic. Yes, they forgot one of our coffees, but this was quickly remedied, and complimentary too. Will be back for sure!

Enjoyable experience!. I was a little surprised reading some of the other reviews, as me an my friend had a lovely experience here!<br/><br/>The corn fritters were especially delicious, and had an extra kick to make them really tasty. Plus there was a really wide choice of cold drinks as well as coffees and teas.<br/><br/>The service was exceptionally good - polite and genuine, and this applied to both the waitress and the chef who took our order! <br/><br/>Would definitely go back!

Poor Service and Average Food. My wife and I ate here for lunch and it took a very long time to receive our food. Once it arrived it was cold. Even if it was warm it most likely still would of been average.

Very pleasant café with amazing food and staff!. Excellent experience! Under new management, The owner is great and very friendly! I come very often to Brio to get my daily coffee, which is excellent, top quality, and their barista is amazing! The staff is very polite and super friendly too , excellent customer service. They also do amazing fresh juices and smoothies. Im in love with the Sweet Cheeks one! Food is also great and very fresh. They have a new menu with great new breakfasts! Brio is really super busy at week ends but its worth the wait! Great place to visit and highly recommand to anyone!

Great breakfast spot. Wonderful scrambled eggs. Friendly staff - relaxed feel. Will definitely be back.

Yum yum yum! Love it! You can tell that it's going to be good seeing how super busy it is everyday! It's great I'm a repeat offender to this place
Craig
Under new management great food and service
Emily
Terrible service food and coffee.
Rob
Love this place. Have always found the service to be great and the older chap a lot of people refer to has always been so polite!<br/>Had breakfast there yesterday and had the Corn Fritter. It's one of my faves but in occasions can be quite salty.<br/>My wife had the banana pancakes and loved them. Coffee has always been first class. Would highly recommend.

Nice place. I had breakfast here the week of Christmas on both the Saturday and Sunday while up from Sydney. <br/><br/>Both times the place was quite busy, but the service was pretty good. Tables are a bit packed in together, but what's the alternative? Stand and wait longer to be seated so wasn't so bad. <br/><br/>The food was good quality and quite enjoyable. <br/><br/>The one criticism is that as it was a very hot week, the tin roof above radiates heat to those sitting below it. Some outdoor fans would help a bit.
Kat
Do not waste your money. Horrible service. I asked for a wifi for 15 minutes and ordered a cup of tea for $5 , older looking guy said he won's give me wi-fi unless I order food (with extremely annoyed and bad attitude), I was not hungry at all so I ordered a bagel for $7.5 that I did not even touch. I do not understand whats the fuss about wifi, as if I am asking for a piece of gold. Will never go to this place ever again. He saved $2.5 but definitely lost hundreds.

Fantastic.. I love this place. The food is outstanding, the staff are great and the coffee is first class.<br/>I eat breakfast out most days, and have done for years. Moved to Teneriffe from Paddo about 12 months ago. Brio runs rings around every place I've ever been to. I can't fault it. <br/>As an aside, might I suggest to the people moaning about the service that it might make a world of difference if you showed some manners. I have found the staff to be attentive and polite - every single time - and have never waited very long for my meal.
Brad Mackey
Went here today Friday 27th December and some old bloke who looked like he just came in from the beach had major attitude, appalling service, wait times were ridiculous... Don't waste your time here... Go elsewhere!
Martyparty
EXTREMELY RUDE. Think its the owner of manager - older guy - was extremely rude to me because I asked what the WIFI key was!?!<br/><br/>The food is good but EXTREMELY SLOW when busy. <br/><br/>Ive read lots of other reviews about how rude this guy is - on the whole there are far better places with more pleasant staff near by! - try PRIMAL PANTRY - SOURCED GROCER OR SIP - all within 300 meters.....
Annabelle
L.O.V.E.D it!. I haven't been out for a breakfast this good in a long while! I always find myself looking for the best breakfast pictures that look like they are going to fully satisfy my dreams of breakfast and never leave feeling completely satisfied. This morning was different, the breakfast stack at Brio was the best breakfast I have ever eaten in Brisbane. Best looking and best tasting. De-licious and satisfied every taste bud. Don't listen to the bad reviews - the owner was lovely to us and the food was insane!
Brisbane Food
Mind-blowingly bad service. There are many better options in the area. Sadly the food is fairly good, but it took us 5 attempts to order, asking over and over if their granola or museli was gluten free, the waitress confusing our question and coming back to tell us that yes it had yoghurt, then sugar, then that it was wet. We asked if she could please check again about the gluten... To which we were told it no it had none. Not entirely sure if correct we said excuse me to a second waiter who glanced over his shoulder and said: "you're excused. She's coming back with your answer". <br/>After asking a 3rd waiter and finding out that it was in fact NOT gluten free, I changed my order to just a plate of fruit. A comedy of errors followed with my partner's incorrect sides needing to be fixed, no cutlery given to us and the long wait for food. In the end, we went to pay, the older guy at the counter not even looking at us, just said "$41" I was charged for the granola after all and left with a not-so-sweet taste in my mouth.

Good juice. They have good juice here, the food not so much, it's fairly average. Doesn't matter anyway since this place is closed now.
William
Never again, haven't been back for a few years due to horrific experience with owner. Figured that he wouldn't of lasted with his aggressive nature, but he is still there and he is even worse now. And the food was terrible.

Better off going to London Club next door. Terrible service. My partner and I had been regulars for years but have been very disappointed with the service at Brio and will never return again. Despite knowing the owner, we have repeatedly been treated rudely by him and were even refused a table the last time we attempted to visit after driving an hour to visit. We weren't even invited to wait for a table. On previous visits, we have often had to wait an hour for food and 30mins for drinks even when they haven't been busy. Since they changed their menu, the food has also been very disappointing. I think this is why their other business two doors down called "Rehab" failed - terrible service, long waits and average food. Give this place a miss - I would definitely recommend London Club next door. Excellent service, food and prices.

Would I return? No Good? .... Would I return? No<br/>Good? Coffee and price<br/>Bad? unprofessional service and boring food<br/>We visited Brio for Sunday brunch.<br/>We were given a choice of table and coffee orders taken.<br/>The menu had a wide variety of options. We chose our regular favourites: eggs florentine with a side of hash browns for my partner, avo on toast and a smoothie for me.<br/>30 seconds after taking our order the waiter returns to tell me that the smoothie I had ordered was for fitness people, it has protein in it, maybe I would prefer one from the other side of the menu. I'll be the first to admit that I get a little crazy when I'm hungry, but I still cannot fathom how that seemed like an okay thing to say to a customer. We should have gone next door to London Club at this point (They've never suggested that I look like a girl that devours ice cream for breakfast).<br/>Food arrived promptly. My partner was unamused by the spinach hidden in his hash browns and my slabs of avocado on unbuttered Turkish was uninspired at best. My smoothie was fine, but the ice cream based concoction I ended up with was a direct violation of my PTs high protein low garbage diet and made me a little sad. We ate and left without tipping.

We came to try brio for the first time as I have live in Tenerife for 6 years. We were greeted and seated quite quickly. After 5 minutes our order was taken. 15 minutes had passed and went to ask about our coffees. Was informed the waitress was just putting order through. Owner apologised and asked if we were in a hurry. I said we'll I would like to eat. 15 minutes for an order to be placed to kitchen and bar is unacceptable. Especially when the cafe was not busy. Get rid of your technology and grab a pen and paper. Might work better for you.

The meaning of BRIO !!. B - bland and uninviting<br/>R - rude, rude, rude and rediculously over priced<br/>I - Ignored is what you get for asking a question<br/>O - OMG what a waste of time and money<br/><br/>I cant believe that a cafe run this badly can still exist, come on people of Brisbane its time to start acting with your feet. Take your money elsewhere.
Ch
AVOID!!. Decided to go out for a sunday morning breakfast for my friends birthday and was extremely disappointed with the food and service of this café. I ordered the vege-out option with had eggs your way, asparagus, haloumi, spinach, mushrooms, avocado and hash. I told the waitress that I wanted poached runny eggs and that I didn't want avocado. When our food came out after about 30 minutes I was given hard poached egg and there was avocado on my plate! I summoned the waitress over and told her I said runny eggs and no avocado. She took the plate away without an apology. A few minutes later the owner came over and said are you sure you asked for runny eggs? I said yes I definitely specified this but they were hard boiled and I had also said no avocado. His response was oh well she heard you say hard eggs. What kind of customer service is this? Don't question the customer, just deliver the food I asked for. I understand sometimes its hard to get eggs right, but a simple thing like not putting avocado on my late was just a lazy mistake and the fact that they didn't even apologize. My meal came back out about a minute after with runny eggs, no avocado and everything else on it from the previous plate I had, so all of this food was cold from waiting in the kitchen for fresh eggs. This meal cost $22 dollars, definitely not the service or quality of food I expect for this price. Would not recommend to anyone to return here, don't waste your time or money.

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. I cannot believe this place is in operation. The owner is the rudest, most obnoxious person I have ever met. I waited for over 40 minutes for my order to be serve by the owner who had no interest in engaging with us. The last 7 comments on here I completely agree with; over-priced, arrogant service, rude staff and should not be in operation.<br/><br/>I am NOT recommending Brio to anyone.<br/><br/>Disgruntled customer and local resident.
Al
Food was ok, but was completely overshadowed by rude management who treat their customers like scum

One more thing about Brio. Love the wraps, made freshly, excellent juice again fresh. You get great service at McDonalds and no-one can answer you back because they get fired if they do so maybe drop in there and eat what you are used to. Brio has a great name and reputation, deservedly so.<br/><br/><br/>-----08 Apr, 2013-----<br/><br/>Wins Awards, So It should. Our experiences with Brio have been excellent and we have been dining there for over 3 years. Criticisms come mainly from weekends when it is extremely busy but go there early like we do. Say 7-8am.<br/>The staff cannot be bullied and it takes time to make fresh meals so we are happy to wait while the staff are busy. The world is full of people who have to vent anger on these sites but relax and enjoy Brio as we do.

Despite reading some bad reviews, my experience at this cafe has always been fabulous! I first stumbled across this cafe lost. Popping in for a coffee I got clear directions and a business card incase I couldn't find my destination. The staff were super helpful and I have been coming back since. The magic mushroom breakfast is amazing! Reasonable prices as well!
Bella
Recently moved back to the area so thought we would give this a go despite friends recommendations not to. Should have listened, after an hour wait an appalling 'breakfast bruschetta' was served. An untoasted in edible gluten free bagel (I ordered gluten free toast never advised that this was a bagel)<br/>Topped with a tiny serving of tomato and at most a teaspoon of avocado.<br/>Not only was this disappointing but it did not resemble the bruschetta topping on the Turkish. Absolute rip off for rubbish food, average coffee and slow service. Don't waste your time and money, you will be dissapointed.
ADM
Echo the last few reviews - coffee pretty good, food average; but the owner's demeanor and attitude far outweigh any positives to be found here. <br/>Many better options a short walk away. Steer clear.
HDW
Went for lunch, ordered 2 salmon dishes. 45 minutes later I thought I would query with the owner how much longer the food would be. The owner replied 'are you in a hurry?' I said no but it has been 45 minutes. He replied 'no its hasn't' and checked to the docket that said exactly 45 minutes ago. He then continued to tell me that no one was in a rush and to take a seat. Terrible attitude to customer service. Ass hole of an owner. I live above the place but won't go back again. Food was average.
CLC
Misery guts. Locals in the area rave about the coffees however are now making a stand and refusing to dine/drink at Brio as the owner is just too rude. I have been treated so poorly by the owner on not just one, but several occasions. <br/>If he could at least manage a "hello" with a smile, I'm sure he'd have a lot more local business.
SarahJane
So much potential..... Honestly, i havent had a bad meal here. But the fact i have had to wait up to 40mins for a juice to come out to me, get little to no customer service. They all have ipods to place order on but these seem slow or staff don't know how to use as it always takes ages to take order (lets not even talk about if you are allergic to anything and need it omitted). <br/>So frustrating as they have so much potential.

Don't waste your TIME. Just had breakfast at Brio with a friend and wish there were time machines. I have never left feedback about a restaurant/cafe but am so disappointed by my experience I had to this time. I will be very honest, the food was pretty good, not great, but I think it was worth what you paid. Portion size was generous and it was pleasant to eat. That is the only good thing I have to say about the place. <br/><br/>The waiters seemed really daft as they almost try to avoid seating you (even while they have empty tables) . We mangaed to get a table but the owner was really rude about it and literally grunted at us and pointed at a free table. They took 30 mins to bring us our drinks and then another 1 hour 20mins for our food. We were served before 2 other tables before us were and we had ordered the same meals! I wish that when we're seated they could have told us a wait period on food so we could have been given the choice to wait or leave. I will not be going back there till management changes.
Ben Brett
Terrible place. We waited 1.5 hours before finally cracking and asking about our meals. Was initially ignored by the waitress and was then told they were forgotten. When it came out the pancakes were basically batter as they rushed them. Not worth it
J Smith
Staff great, shame about the owner. Have been to Brio a number of times and have always experienced great food. The one thing that always disappoints is the end of the meal when you come across the owner prancing about the restaurant thinking he is Mr Cool and being rude to customers. <br/><br/>He knows how to select great staff but to make people want to return, he should stay out of sight.

Good atmosphere, great juices but terrible corn fritters!

Meh.... I'd heard a good report about Brio, my experience was a little hit and miss. The atmosphere was lovely, sitting on the deck with greenery and watching the world pass by. Service was prompt, however I wasn't greeted by anyone. I ordered the corn cakes with a side of asparagus and a soy flat white. The breakfast came quite quick, and before the drink, I like my drink before the meal arrives (I'm sure there's an un-written law about that). The corn cakes were OK, but lacked something? Seasoning? Spices? I was just all just a bit bland. Eggs cooked to perfection, however $2/spear of asparagus was a little steep I thought. Coffee came out half way through the meal and was great. Juices looked lovely at the table next to me too.
Foodlover
Inconsistent. I'm a local and eat breaky there frequently during the week. Service is friendly but it's always a lottery about the food. The same dish (eg. Baked beans) can be fabulous one day, and fairly awful the next. Any menu variations rarely measure up to order - some of this is due to the poor English of the staff. Should be great but mostly unpredictable.

Perfect place for saturday brekkie... Usually go to Poppys Bakery Southbank but tired of the place being overrun by cy<br/>clists so drove over to New Farm and after looking at about 4 cafes settled on Brio. Great decision. Had the Bronx Bagel with a latte. Bagel really hit the spot with egg, bacon, hollondaise sauce yum yum yum...coffee was perfect. Will definately go there again. Well done Brio. Elaine Toowong.

Incredibly Rude!. I needed to break a note yesterday morning and was very short on time so I popped into Brio with my cash and explained that I needed change so wanted to just buy a takeaway slice. A tallish lean man (I'm assuming the owner) said to me in a very unpleasant tone "No, we're not giving you any change - we're not a bank." I was so taken aback and the disbelief must have shown on my face, but then I thought to myself he must have just been joking with me! So I half-smiled... only to be put back in my place with a further comment "there's a teller across the street"<br/>When I meekly asked again if I could please buy a slice he said to me very dismissively 'Oh. Yeah you can buy a slice' and disappeared.<br/>Thankfully the other staff were nice enough to me, but it was such a shock to the system to be treated so badly when all I wanted to do was purchase a breakfast snack that I absolutely will never go near this place again.<br/>FYI the slice was $3.95 and not particularly pleasant to eat anyway.

Won't be back. Initial waiter had personality of a fish, corn cakes were tasteless, coffee weak (juice good). When I went to pay, I could see in the small kitchen a gentleman on the grill, in a zip-up jumper-vest with chest hair hanging out. Ew. No wonder they only got 3-stars for cleanliness from Brisbane City Council.

It's an addiction!. Im a late riser on the weekends & I love South American/Spanish food so when I read online that Brio had all day breakfast & that they were famous for their huevos rancheros-I dragged my boyfriend down there to check it out-that's when I fell in love! Coming from a South American background I can tell you that it was the best huevos rancheros I have ever eaten! I went back every weekend and ordered the same thing each time & was in heaven. Since then the menu has been updated, although I was initially devastated that my favorite meal was no longer on the menu, we still went every weekend & tried other things-& EVERYTHING is outstanding! Between myself & my partner I think we have nearly tried the whole menu including drinks & have been blown away each time with how delicious it is....we won't go to any other cafes for breakfast or lunch now-we are addicted! The staff & the owner especially are very welcoming & lovely. Just all round incredible!

Lots of positives but... Brio used to be our local brunch hangout as it ticked all of the boxes - food, coffee, juice and service - were all exquisite. However right around the time they introduced a new lunch menu, sometime last year, brunch seems to have gone downhill. <br/><br/>My poached eggs arrived cold a couple of times and the side serve of mushroom was super salty and dry last time we were there. It kind of made think they were leftovers..<br/><br/>Anyway even though they should really look at what's going on in the kitchen, the service is still super - the owner especially is lovely and gracious!

Much room for mushroom!. Had mushies on toast thinly spread with goats cheese - divine. Just the right amount of everything combined to perfection. Coffee is great too. Owner is as odd as two left feet but the Spanish (?) youngsters are great with people. He should stay in the kitchen!

Just do it.... Great coffee, fantastic juices and the corn cakes are to die for! This place is worth your time and money.

Excellent. Just great! Food, Drinks & Service. Keep up the great work.. With loads of substandard dining venues very close by this place just blows them all out of the water..

We discovered Brio's breakfasts a year ago and have not looked back!! We are regulars on the weekend, with the occasional weekly lunch visit. The juices are fabulous, and nothing beats the breakfast selection - make it your regular like we have!!!

Food on the nose. Went to Brio last weekend where we proceeded to be served for 15 min. We were eventually served and proceeded to wait another 45 minutes for our breakfast. To our dismay we witnessed people coming in after us and then being served food before us. Our patience lost out after an hour as the kids were now restless and very hungry. We decided to leave and told the owner we can't wait anymore. He proceeded to our dismay to talk to us rudely saying that he was busy and that we'll just have to wait. We understand its a busy world and that not everyone's day goes to plan however What we couldn't fathom was how rude he was without even an apology for the poor service. What was worse is that this owner did that infront of my kids. When your children at ages 7 and 5 comment on how rude someone is there is something wrong. As you can imagine we had enough of the bad attitude left and stated we wouldn't be returning. Now we all subject at some point in time to a similar story however the story doesn't end here. <br/><br/>We were walking past his restaurant a couple of days later to try the establishment next door and to our dismay he approached us in front of all his customers and berated us. We couldn't believe it. Now I might be old school but do these people not rely on us for their lively hood. To go out of his way left us dumbfounded and very embarrassed. I don't know about you but service these days is rapidly progressing downhill. Sure it happens from time to time but in all my life I've never come across something like this. Especially from an owner. I work hard for my money and don't really want to part with it for such ignorant rude people. On that note we decided to eat at home and give what we were going to spend on breakfast to charity. If this owner keeps going down this track he'll be relying on the same. Don't waste your time on this place. There are lovely establishments like the London Club either side for breakfast and lunch.

Haha had to laugh at the "Mortified" review - you tell em. On the other hand, I went there with friends as their 2 year old likes the food (??) and we sat inside with 6 adults, the toddler and our 2 month old and enjoyed friendly service and good (if not outstanding) food, so thanks to the team for that. I'd agree with the diner stating some dishes offering more than they deliver, with the heuvos rancheros leaving me ambivalent and also unsure of why they'd used a sausage in place of, well, anything else. Full marks for the drinks though! The addition of booze to my morning juice certainly hit the spot, and the coffee was nice. I think I'll be happy to go back.

Great for brekkie - though some menu items can promise more than they deliver. Juices are fantastic when hungover.
Never Again
Absolutely mortified. Appreciate the cafe owner has no real right of reply, but fact is his attack was very public, so ours will be too. <br/><br/>Below a letter to the Brio proprietor:<br/><br/>Dear Sir/Madam,<br/><br/>My family and I happened upon your establishment last Sunday morning as part of an overnight visit to Brisbane.<br/><br/>After a late night made later by a restless three year old, a cold-filled one year old and an ear-piercing cat fight of epic proportions, to say we were relieved to have found a purveyor of caffeine was a gross understatement.<br/><br/>All began swimmingly. Our coffees were just the tonic, if a little hot. Our food was, on the whole, pretty good.<br/><br/>Sadly, however, the entire experience was woefully let down by your appallingly rude, attitude-laden, unfriendly and, frankly, hostile service.<br/><br/>Firstly, to the tall, scarlet-lipped woman with all the oh-so-now peekaboo tattoos, the holier-than-thou snoots, and all those rather expensive tickets dangling from her bony frame...<br/><br/>A customer's request for a high chair is NOT an insult. Rather, it's a plea for help. You know, the kind we mere mortals usually pay for when we walk into a restaurant. Mostly the provision of high chairs to people with kids makes life much more pleasant for all concerned. It tends to keep the littluns restrained, at least momentarily, and at the very least long enough for their parents to wedge in their brekky and give everyone a moment's rest. You should be grateful we asked. But I guess it's ever so much cooler to pout, sniff, grunt, mutter under your breath and otherwise play the spoiled snob. Lord, no bowing to the customers for you! That would be most unhip! You boring, stereotypical, C-grade dud. Grow up.<br/><br/>Secondly, to the not-so-gentleman in the fetching red, white and blue checked shorts, here's two simple tips. <br/><br/>Tip one: Smile. Wandering around with your mouth pursed as if attempting to suck a toothpick from the butt a particularly clenchy cat may impress, I don't know, clenchy cats. But for those of us who don't indulge in such extra-curriculars, well, we find it a little grating. <br/><br/>Tip Two: Anything beyond one syllable really is okay. You CAN extend yourself beyond a grumbly 'yep' or 'nup'. Start with a word you should know. SER-VICE. <br/><br/>Which brings me to my final point. For my wife to be forced to tolerate an embarrassingly public ear-bashing from you because, christ help us, our family had the temerity to eat, pay and leave, simply beggars belief. Yes, children are noisy and messy. Had you taken a moment to smell the roses you would have found that I'd offered your staff a generous tip (begrudgingly, per reasons stated) for any transient inconvenience. But, no, like your surly stringbean offsider, you opted to squeal like a bitchy little oinker because - heaven forbid - you had to kneel down with a dustpan and brush to scratch up a few egg crumbs. Like that's not part of your job every now and then. You, sir, are an arrogant, horrible, venomous little coward. Karma will find you, nothing surer. <br/><br/>You lot are in the hospitality industry. You make paying customers happy. You smile through the stuff you don't like. You shrug of the temporary painfulness of customers who don't wear the right clothes or otherwise fit your preferred demographic. In between times you serve people their food an clean up their mess and laugh and make the removal of cash from their wallets a pleasure.<br/><br/>If you don't want families there, put up a sign. It ain't rocket science.<br/><br/>In the meantime, get over yourselves. Because right now you really, truly, deeply suck.<br/><br/>Yours fleetingly,
Jess
Terrible!. Yesterday for lunch I went there with my family and the service was SLOW! We didn't get our lunch until 50minutes after we arrived. We had to ask them to get us a table, take our order, where our drinks were and where our lunch was. When I said 'Excuse me' to one of the waitresses, she responded with a 'eh what?'. I will never go there again!

Great fresh food in the cabinet and I like the variety . Weekend breakfasts are always good and a bit different. Consistently good service.

Steady As She Goes!. Service is good & coffee is consistent. Sometimes hard to get a park in this area & area is now metered. Seems to get a lot of support from immediate locals.

However, breakfast was never Brio’s selling point – the full name is ‘Brio Espresso and Juice’ and they do a kick-arse job at both of these things. If I were to return for anything more than coffee, it’d be to try the lunchtime burgers, possibly with a vodka-laced juice or three. Maybe you should too.

We settled for a Pumpkin Pinenut salad with grilled Chicken, Chorizo sausage with Salsa and Lamb koftas with Haloumi. The salad was a decent portion. The leaves were fresh,

Great atmosphere, good food and friendly service all get a tick. I often like hanging out there in the afternoons with my large cappuccino and my laptop. If you get a seat on the table next to the stairs you can also get glimpses of the river. The perfect
