Review Cafe Europe - Brisbane

Tried for breakfast. Mix of German, scandinavian, spanish styles etc. Food was good, coffee could have been stronger but nice flavour. Interior a bit on the shabby side. Service was quick and efficient.

Very nice food, I went there almost everyday while my boyfriend was working around

Our first experience, my son had the Canadian breakfast, I had the vegetarian breakfast with poached egg, home made juice and coffees. Both meals were delicious, good size for price. Juice was sooo good. Atmosphere welcoming and comfortable. We were drawn in from the sidewalk by a very friendly 'hello' we received from the waiter/proprietor as we were deciding where to dine. Definitely returning and looking forward to trying the other meals on their menu.

My family and I often come down here for breakfast on the weekends. This cafe is dog friendly and they offer water bowls too. The employees help us feel welcome every time, the food comes quickly, and the taste is immaculate.

Had a brunch there and was amazed at the menu options. Thinking that there was too much choice and that surely they cold not possibly get it all right, we ordered two different dishes - one off the All Day breakfast menu and one from the Lunch menu. Both dishes were really tasty and at a reasonable price. Sitting outdoors to watch the world go by was lovely and the indoor area is nicely decorated. Service was friendly and helpful. My only wish is that the coffee was stronger ...

Food was good, nothing spectacular. At 9am for breakfast, cafe was half full. A basic order of coffee and bacon eggs mushrooms and toast, took about 40 minutes to arrive. Cost of the food was $18.00 each, coffee was good at a standard price of around $5 per cup. The cafe has a relaxed atmosphere

Have to say the best coffee- owner takes time to listen to how I like my coffee and provides it perfectly. Food is always delicious and presentation is wonderful. Owner always smiling and pleasant - such a rarity these days. Nothing to much trouble for the customer. Regardless if I eat on my own, with one child or family setting - service is great. Keep up your great work. Menu looks so good.

I used to religiously go to coffee club on a Sunday until one day my friends and I decided to change it up a bit and head across the road to Cafe Europe, safe to say the cute decor and friendly looking staff drew us in. Since then, I quite frequently visit the cafe and bring new friends along all the time. Highly recommend this place! Great food, well priced and lovely smiley staff! 10/10 always a fav!

Sunday afternoon I was looking for somewhere quiet to take my elderly father for a good coffee, as a break from his aged care facility. We happened upon Cafe Europe which looked open - doors were open, people at the tables, signs on the footpath advertising they were open. However as there was no suitable parking in the side street I had turned into, I drove around the block to Sherwood Rd where I was able to park two doors away on the street. I helped my father out of the car which is a slow and laborious effort for him, and we walked back to the side street entrance where flat entry to the shop was available. As I was trying to find a suitable table, a waiter came out to tell us they were closed. The open signs were still on the footpath, doors still open. When I pointed out that they were advertising they were open and they should remove their signs so as not to mislead anyone else, a woman who I took to be the proprietor told me I should have read their opening hours on the door, which was open!!! No apology for the inconvenience their misleading advertising had caused me and my father. I won’t be returning. We enjoyed our coffee and cake at Caffe Primavera, Corinda.

TL;DR: You have something pretty quaint here, which is lacking around the general dining scene of Brisbane - or just in any modern setting in general. It is fun and exciting to have all sorts of cuisines, yet the European ones are often overlooked. When it comes down to the bare basics - like with Cafe Europe here - this is the overlooked beauty of European cuisine. Practically everything comes together, and the setting suits it as these eateries can be in any random location in town. Quality is present in the food, service this time was solid, and it should make any gourmand pine for more Central European options. <br/><br/>Once more, it was the weekend, it was Sunday. Around these parts, that often means one thing - off it was to get some breakfast, and this time it was my house mate's turn to choose the place. Has it been mentioned that he does his research before, because he is doing his research on a number of levels. This was one that had not even come into mind, even into awareness. We are going into the Western part of town, where the dining scene is a little more elusive and specilaised - venture into here, and you just might find some hidden gem with this part of town being less flashy than most other areas. <br/><br/>In the hype and build-up to going here, his question was something along the lines of inferring a European style breakfast. Knowing me full well, trying a broad range of cuisines at any time of day is bound to get me more excited than normal - and seeing how people have breakfast around the world is certainly an experience. It was the same old case again, with him having the air horn ready and waiting to go at the right time to get me up. Before long, we were hitting the road heading off to have a filling breakfast. <br/><br/>At first glance, the customer service does not come across as much of a strength as some other places, yet in taking a step back and thinking about it, all the operations ran pretty well. Again, this is one that takes it a bit slower than others, allowing clients to relax and dissolve their minds - we are a ways away from the hustle and bustle of the city core, and with the way the service is, it does a good job to remind you of that. They are polite, they are well-mannered, and quite persistent in making sure you enjoy your meal. <br/><br/>The young man who took our orders was a pleasant fellow, showcasing some great customer service skills. He knew his stuff, was quite interactive, and let's say he wasn't just there to go through the motions. Given the backdrop and the day, he - along with all the other waitstaff - were pretty relaxed. The food did take a bit more time coming out, especially in comparison to the standards set by other cafes. This can be something of a downfall to a restaurant, however contention is given in a few cases with the major one being if the food is good, and another for an acceptable level in customer service. They have their lucky day today, as the food was pretty decent all-round. <br/><br/>By pure coincidence, that day had aligned with Father's Day and Cafe Europe were having a specialised and more focused menu than normal. They weren't day exclusives, but more so selected favourites from the general menu. As traditional as an outlay that Cafe Europe has got going all-round, it has one modern sensibility which is the all-day breakfast. This is where it got exciting, the distinct hook for the place - the all-day breakfasts are international, and have something in store for every client. <br/><br/>From what I know with dining around the world, many European countries keep it simple at breakfast and they have a lot of that on the breakfast menu. What starts this off is a range of toast varieties plus croissants, both with a choice in condiments. Avocado toast makes it appearance (of course) where it can be built to make a more substantial meal. <br/><br/>Making a more substantial choice comes the basics, which includes the two eggs which can be built up as much as the client wants (around a dozen options to boot), the always popular eggs Benedict, omelets, and pancakes. Those are good for a mid-sized appetite, what comes next is possibly the draw card. The big breakfasts, which come from far and wide as Canada, and Germany, plus more specific regions of the world, and will usually at least have some kind of egg, protein, and hashbrown along with several other bits and pieces. <br/><br/>Lunch is a bit more basic, it is your usual cafe-style fare. That means many kinds of sandwiches, toasties, stacks on top of bread, plus a whole lot of salad to go around. They also have several burgers, and fish and chip options, before ending with some schnitzels to be true to their name. With all that mentioned, they will have the odd lot of sweets in the cabinet to have with coffee, in addition to a broad range of drinks ranging from tea to wine to milkshakes to all other sorts of beverages. They got all bases covered here, that much can be said. <br/><br/>Starting off the whole process was ordering the drinks. Without nay doubts, that meant coffee for me and when it comes to coffee only one drink comes to mind - that is the dear old doppio. This time around, the beans are sourced from Grinder's Coffee. This is one that I know I have seen around the place, and that it is not an elusive one per se, though you aren't going to see it as frequently as the bigger guns in the competition. Nevertheless, that is not any indication about the quality of Grinder's as a whole, since it can be a pretty nice bean when done right. It is a little bit on the strong side, though nothing that can't be handled for the more seasoned drinker. <br/><br/>Out of them all, the choice was pretty much neck-and-neck in my mind, yet at the end of the day an animalistic instinct in my head that can't seem to resist a pancake meal which combines the sweet and savoury. O Canada, does the combination of bacon, and maple syrup hardly ever go wrong. These were big buttermilk pancakes, that came with fried eggs. All that was missing with the default recipe was some banana. As an addition to the meal, I went with some haloumi cheese. <br/><br/>Without any sort of joshing around, this pancake breakfast was all you could ask for. Among the first things that can be said about it, this meal was absolutely huge, plus the way it was prepared on the plate was something to behold. I almost forgot I had pancakes in the meal, and thought they were English muffins with the way the bacon and eggs were placed on top. What hinges it all together is the obviously the pancakes, which when squinting at them resembled giant piklets. These were light as a feather, and when drenched in maple syrup became even better. Just alone with the bacon and eggs on top - both at a high level of quality - this would have been a serviceable and filling meal. Both the hashbrowns and haloumi were delicious additions, with hashbrowns basically being what they are and haloumi having a unique taste and texture. Adding a small bit of freshness to the meal was a garnish of rocket and tomato. This meal really hit the spot. <br/><br/>Much like a lot of cafes and restaurants around the suburban western area of Brisbane, Cafe Europe is a lot less flashy than most other places and is in many ways more of a reflection on the traditional style of cafes and eateries along with being highly focused on just providing a good meal, along with amicable service. This is as opposed to having the most picturesque place, which in many ways allows it to have that traditional charm, and apropos to its name helps create the aesthetic of dropping into the nearby cafe in a European city particularly in the residential area. Putting it all into the big picture, Cafe Europe culminates very well into having attentive and polite service, putting forth big portions of wholesome, well made food, and keeping things to a much slower pace in which the latter might well be the gold star in this whole endeavour. For something that is more relaxed, less wanting to be hip, and just focusing on being as good as they can be, Cafe Europe is that under the radar gem that ought to be given a go.

Quaint family business with everything you can think of on the menu. The food is always fresh and generous. The coffee is great. The service is efficient and friendly. Can’t go wrong with this place. They even have a rewards system!<br/>

The re-visit of Gas Espresso reminds me this Café, which I have been there but not reviewed yet so far; therefore dropped in this morning to refresh my mind on it food & beverage.<br/>It seems that I was the first customer of the day being arrived at 6:45am in the morning. Took a seat at the corner and ordered my food & beverage from the friendly lady. Flat white came in very quick, which looked a bit weak to me by visual judgement; however, strength was not bad at the end. Brekkie of poached eggs with additional smoked salmon delivered a nice attractive picture on the table. Just the aesthetic effect is worth for the trip. Eggs were poached perfectly and smoked salmon were fresh. <br/>Overall, it is again another happy experience. Cheers!

We were welcomed as we meandered across the street towards this cafe in Graceville. A rather cute crew here dressed in matching waiters tops & bibs, looked like it was family owned with typical German hospitality & portions! We were having breakfast & couldn't decide as the menu was rather extensive. First up coffee was main priority & this was served promptly & was delicious flavor wise with a smooth creamy finish. I asked what blend it was & was told the son was in charge of all that! Decided to order the avocado & my partner had a huge breakfast burger served with an equally huge cutting knife to slice through it. Avocado was flavorsome & chunky served on bread which didn't break the teeth so all good

Lovely service and speedy service. Food however is not hearty nor innovative. I find most things I buy there i could make for a quarter of the price at home.

Unhappy about the hidden charges that appeared on the bill at the end. When asking for extras like another plate and tomato sauce we weren't informed it would cost extra. Restaurants are within their rights to charge what they choose but as it wasn't listed on the menu and we weren't informed by the waiter it is a bit cheeky and underhand. Bringing this up politely to the manager and suggesting informing customers of hidden costs for things that are otherwise complimentary, to avoid confusion and surprise, resulted in him being quite rude. We were charged $1 extra for a small pot of tomato sauce and also $1 for hot chilli sauce I didn't order. Honey packet for coffee cost $.50 plus $1 for extra plate, to name a few. Cheap behaviour from Cafe Europe as their menu prices are average. So keep a look out for that as getting an extra $5 a table probably ends up being quite lucrative for the cafe. Food was average but yummy and service from our waiter was good.

Such a great cafe, the service, music and general relaxed ambience is lovely for breakfast. My partner and I have been here more than five times now. We love the food and what's even better is that they don't charge a public holiday fee like everyone else. We would recommend the eggs benadict, German breakfast and the healthy breakfast (though everything we have eaten has been scumptious). I usually stick with water but my partner loves their coffee. My only suggestion would be for them to get lactose free milk. Other than that we love having breakfast here - keep up the great work Cafe Europe! Ruby and Matt

Big tasty breakfast and reasonably priced. Suprising amount of options and coffee was good. Nice to see honest food in generous portions without the 'food fads'. We'll definately be back.

Our food was cold and we asked for it to be heated up and he immediately started to scream and demanded we leave. My wife is heavily pregnant and this did not deter him from yelling at her. Absolute pig. Don't take women or children to this cafe. <br/>

Aggressive and racist owners!<br/>I love to support family business and have gone here a few times for that reason. The food is homemade style, nice but nothing special, I like the friendly family service I have experienced. Until now! I have never seen such unprofessional service, aggression and racism not to mention how quickly it spiralled to that. We went for a German hot breakfast and it was cold as soon as it arrived, too cold, all 3 plates. My friend got Halloumi on toast with poached egg, the Halloumi was stiff, dry and cold, eggs cold too, she took hers back straight away to advise but didn't want to reheat or reorder as never trust doing that. I have a toddler and usually eat my food cold so kept mine and the guys were too hungry to bother. In the end we didn't eat it all as not very nice. Whilst it was all disappointing we ate some of it so only asked for a refund for the dish that was taken back on arrival. It was refused strongly without apology or question. The male owner instantly got angry at the accusation and then the cook came out aggressively saying there is no way it could be cold. The anger was intense, we were being calm but said not good customer service to be so rude and we will pay but won't be coming back due to the service. The male owner stepped in to my friends then my face saying he didn't want us back, I told him no need for aggression, his wife said "That's not aggressive yet" like a threat that it will be soon. My partner had finished paying. I said to the women there is a lovely German restaurant in Graceville that we will go back to for our German breakfast from now on. She said "You're German get out, I'll remember your face get out" and then the man started to tell me if I'm German to leave. I said I'm not German but going and he said "You must be a Russian! Get out" I kept walking but told him that's racist. He became more aggressive and followed me loudly repeating a few times "You Russian! Get out!" It was scary and very confusing since we didn't raise our voice, put up a fight for a refund and paid in full. I feel there is no place for this anger or racism and hope people avoid this place and not be fooled like I was to support a 'nice' family in their small business. True colours when criticised. Not that it matters but to paint the picture, I'm not German or Russian, just a plain Australian small obviously pregnant woman. If they don't like Germans they shouldn't advertise and make money off their food. If you want a hot delicious German breakfast go to Cafe Beesting in Graceville. Always great service there!

I love the customer service the good o'l fashion way. I have been there for breakfast twice and coffee twice and I like how they are out the front and attentive to your needs. The food is fresh and at a reasonable price. Handy location too! Keep up the good work! I will definitely be going back :)

I dropped in for a quick bite when around the area and wasn't expecting much due to the initial perceptions given by their location and appearance. However they did surprise me with their quality and presentation when the dishes came out. Tastes were not perfect, but finding this place in this location is means a lot. Will not hesitate to return again!

Getting out for breakfast on a Saturday morning is an unbeatable treat, especially on a beautiful Saturday morning as spring is beginning to say g'day after the Game of Thrones-esque winter that Brisbane has just pulled through. <br/><br/>Cafe Europe, located just opposite Sherwood plaza on Sherwood road is a reasonably priced eatery that offers a continental European twist on traditional brekky fare.<br/><br/>I opted for the Vezuvian, which is essentially eggs Benedict with hash browns in lieu of toast which absolutely hits it out of the park with the best incarnation of this dish I have sampled in a very long time. The hollandaise sauce is sublime, and the hash browns were crispy and delicious, far from the oily mess that has come to be expected at other venues. <br/><br/>One fault with the meal that did let me down was the chocolate milk shake I ordered to wash it down. Served in the classic milk bar style glass it was a massive let down as it seemed to be a Nesquick blended in with some milk to create a powdery disappointment. <br/><br/>Overall my breakfast was pleasant, staff were friendly and prompt, meaning I was in and out in half an hour, full and satisfied.

We've eaten here about 4 times now and can't fault it. Great tasting food.

Very Rude Staff. Went to this place on a Sunday morning wanting to bring home a yummy breakie for my parnter and I. When I asked the server if they do take away, he just looked funny at me without saying anything. So I asked again and he rolled his eyes and hissed a "yes" at me. The look he gave me was so filthy and made me feel sick to my stomach. I said that I was sorry and didn't want to put him out and he replied with "are you going to order anything?!"<br/>When I was giving my order he didn't say a word to confirm. Just kept rolling his eyes and glaring at me. I couldn't tell if what I was saying was actually being received.<br/>After I paid he just stood there and did not let me know how long it would be or anything. I've never felt so unwelcome before....let alone by someone that I am handing my money to.

Local and Lovely!. Great local family run business.... good coffee, and breakfasts are great!

Food was great. They ran out of my entree but gave us free dessert to make up for it. Goulash was perfect, tender and spicy. A little understaffed but worth wauting. Good atmosphere sitting outside, excellent coffee

Very rude owner & food not cooked. I went to the waiter three times asking for the toast to be cooked and he wouldn't listen. We found out it was the owner and he was absolutely horrible. It was so bad that I will not go back.
Sue.smith1
Arrogant owner. Behind the smile is a young man who does not appear to understand that to always put your customers first and strive to please is how to keep loyal patrons returning. He never apologises for bad service . Justifies slow, unprofessional service, misses orders, and blames patrons.
Hols_smith
Terrible service, unprofessional owners. Run by the most unprofessional man in the world. Slow and unprofessional service is an understatment. I organised several months in advance to hold my babyshower at his cafe, and followed this up with him several times in which prices and menus were organised. When he didn't answer my last two emails I visited the cafe in which he stated he could no longer have the event there due to how busy he is. This was only 1 week before my scheduled event. He cost me in valuable time and money for invitations sent out weeks before. He had no intention of contacting me to inform me that he was no longer catering my event. He never has many customers in the cafe so i have no idea why he is so busy. The menu organised was small and uncomplicated as well. Don't spend any of your valuable money at this place.
Jessie
The staff were friendly & the cafe comfy & inviting. The coffee was lovely but the meal was uninspiring & quite greasy..a meal you would not expect in a classy cafe like this.
Fortheloveoffood
Mouldy cake. Popped in on Wednesday for a coffee and bought my child a small sponge cake. He said the sponge tasted 'yuck' and when I smelt it it and turned it over, there were black mould spots on the cake. When I questioned the staff member, he disagreed with me and said it wasn't mould! He admitted the cakes had been sitting thee since the weekend. Very poor customer service- not even an apology, let alone a refund! Won't be going back. Plenty of other options on Sherwood Road.

The schnitzel is always good. The food is always great and taste like it is home made. We have dined there a few times. Staff is pleasant. Good price and big portions.

Diner's appraisal. I dined there last night. I found the staff pleasant and heipful. The meal took a while to arrive at the table though. I enjoyed my meal though a shade overpriced.<br/>I enjoyed the music though a little loud .Apparently they haven't been there long so hopefully my negatives are only teething troubles.

Over priced. Went to this cafe for a work function. Was not overly impressed. Vegetarian meal was a joke. At best average pub quality meal. Will not be going back

Great food! Has that real homemade taste big helpings! Just needs a little<br/>More staff.

The food was bland, poorly cooked and hugely overpriced. On the plus side, the servings were generous and the restaurant is a nice place to be.
