Exceeded all expectations for an all you can eat chicken place. Each batch of chicken was freshly cooked, crispy skin and juicy meat. Including an unlimited iced tea selection, the whole meal was incredible value.

I like that there’s a variety of flavours. My favourite is the yangnyum. I also like that the chicken is tender and not greasy. The chips and tea go nicely with the chicken. I may try the deluxe buffet next time as it’s only an extra $2.

TL;DR: Just the whole idea behind this buffet brings me back to the book "The Birth of Korean Cool". In that book, from their entrance onto the world stage Korea just had to know how to make an impression and it was by being them, and careful planning. This fried chicken buffet rings true from those pages, taking an idea that already draws people in and putting it to the next level. Cooking everything very fresh, having a good, tempting variety, and supplanting it in a setting that feels like a secret hideout. Kai Kai lives up to its reputation for sure.

Often when it comes to my turn with picking the meals out, I have the next several choices lined up going possibly into the new year at any time. Things can change, mostly from circumstances that happen. With my friend, I was asking where about she worked and finding out it was in the old stomping grounds of St. Lucia, it only went from there. For so long I have so much good stuff about Kai Kai Chicken, and that Korean fried chicken is always a treat with so many choices around town - each of them pretty damn good. What I knew for so long was this might as well be on the back burner for a long time, maybe even having it beyond a hope to reach it. That situation was not to be anymore, and one night I met her on the other side of town for what would be a great night out.

After going down the stairs from the busy street just outside, the world completely transforms. While overall it may have a slightly crude outlay, the design is enough to have it feel like some sort of hangout to come after-hours - that in many ways is the case with all the university students just down the road. They have the added benefit of having additional space to spread out the tables, and the lighting is at just the right level to feel either calm or lively. For getting refreshments, plus cutlery and the needed serviettes (they will definitely be needed, that is no exaggeration), the bar is just off to the side and it will be enough to get anyone in the mood for some good chowing down.

Love them or lump them, one of the biggest problems with buffets can be the lines and trying to get where you want to grab what you want. It is one of the closest instances of foot traffic coming into a jam. Plus, much of the food has been sweating in those baine maires for a long time. Both of these aspects are remedied with a unique mode of customer service. Every table is given a laminated slip which has the selection of the different flavours of fried chicken, the different modes of loaded fries, plus all of the sides. This allows the clients to take their time deciding, and each table comes with a couple of textas to mark what items look good. After that, they give the slip to one of the waitstaff, who then takes it to the kitchen.

This mode works out pretty well all-round if it were from a personal perspective. Counter service may be all the rage in these parts, but the preference is always going to lean towards the table service. In addition to that, some folks can do well with deciding quickly but I am one that will always be jumping back and forth with what looks the best. Hence, novel methods including pressing the button, or the touch screen menu are greatly appreciated. Lastly,  it is a nice little nudge to the order slip that is given to restaurant kitchens. The food is done in a timely manner. Most fried chicken places, and Korean ones at that, appear to get the plates out as quickly as possible. Right here, the pace is more relaxed which allows clients to digest their recent meals and take it easy - that I especially like.

The star of the show at Kai Kai is their specialty fried chicken buffet. On it, there is a dozen different flavours, and half a dozen versions of loaded fries to compliment the chicken. That is the starting option, with the deluxe one only requiring a couple of dollars a pop more where they offer a motley crew of side dishes. With those side dishes, they could almost have a whole buffet just for them - it could easily work. For the drinks section - which is another addition to make to the buffet - they have several kinds of cold tea, and the usual sodas plus fruit juices, along with some Korean liquors, several beers, and all sorts of spirits.

Well, what other reason would I have made an effort to come all this way other than get that fried chicken buffet? It was the next tier option to order it, that was replete with the drinks bar that including all sorts of iced teas, an option for some milkshakes if that so appealed. The world was out oyster for the next couple of hours.

From the drinks bar, I went once and got some taro milk tea. Even after having it several times, I know the taste of taro but can't necessarily describe it. Personally, I reckon they could make milkshake flavours from it. The taste is mild, and pretty pleasant. Next to it were some jellies to add into the drink and make it a bubble tea. This wasn't so bad, as it skipped the prospect of going for bubble tea afterwards and finished the business straight away. That went down a treat.

I can't even remember which rounds were with which flavours of chicken, yet from memory it was two rounds of it and each round you can have up to three different flavours of chicken. Each time the chicken was nothing short of excellent. When the Koreans fry their chicken, it gets cooked twice which gives it an extra crispy coating, and a delicious glean. Even the original flavour is delicious, with plenty of salt going around. It is when the chicken if flavoured that the real fun begins. From the night, the flavours picked were Honey Soy (the sweet and sour, a common favourite for a reason), Soy Wasabi (a delightfully bitey delight that will set your mouth on fire), Goroumaru (a delicious, complex mixture of flavours, done in a Japanese style), Cajun (spicy and fiery, just how I like it), Zesty Lemon (and boy does the lemon come out), Yangnyum (a real spicy number, those Koreans know what they are doing). Half down, half to go, a great reason to return.

The sides are definitely tempting to get, and many of them are delicious. If you are here for the chicken, the big recommendation is to simply skip them in favour of getting more flavours of chicken into you - the loaded fries being an exception to the rule, those are definitely worth your while. Nevertheless, the range of sides they got on offer is eclectic and a bit international. The first round I snatched some up, getting the chicken nuggets, the duo of samosas and spring rolls, some macaroni cheese with three varieties of cheese, and onion rings.

A run down of each side goes as follows:
Chicken nuggets - a guilty pleasure that still remains from childhood, you know what they are. Inoffensive white meat that goes down a treat when in the right mood.
Samosas/spring rolls - these are fantastic when they are done right, but this lot was definitely the freezer aisle variety.
Onion rings - delicious. Good crumb, with sweet, juicy onion in the middle. When they are available, onion rings are the unsung hero companion to a burger - sorry fries.
Three cheese macaroni cheese - I could have easily had a whole bowl of this, with a strong, distinct mixture of cheeses thrown in, and the pasta was still hot. I would not have been surprised if butter was within the mix as well. The Dixie folks apparently like to pair fried chicken with macaroni cheese (among some other sides), and I can say it is a fantastic combination.

Both rounds of the chicken also came with a side of loaded fries, because it just couldn't be otherwise. First time around, it had to be the takoyaki fries. This had the distinctive flakes and sauce poured over, plus a good squirt of mayonaise. Just why I have been to all these western-fusion Japanese places, and not seen something like this is beyond me. They were delicious, and they could go down a real treat. If there is anything I know from pub and bar food, it is that loaded fries of any kind go down a treat each and every time. Second round was honey butter fries, putting the sweet with the savoury

Throwing just lone last hat into the ring, it made sense to end it on a sweet note by getting an order of the dessert. This varies by the day, and could well be anything. The lucky dip this night turned well in my favour, as it was chocolate mousse - basically, if it is chocolate I am happy with it. This was essentially the pudding cup variety, so it was what it was. It at least finished everything off on a good note.

Without mincing words of any kind, this was absolutely awesome. There is no joshing about in any way with this buffet, all that reputation that Kai Kai had built up with their buffet and their product was absolutely earned. It is like nothing else in town, has that vibe that it would be right in its element somewhere downtown, but being in the quiet suburbia is like that hideaway merely for club members. Plus, with the method of ordering it promises that every piece of food is piping hot and fresh straight from the cooker. This is me slowly turning into an old fossil, but this kind of stuff was not around in my salad days - if it were, I absolutely would have planted myself right in here on more than one occasion.

I don't often consider these days whether or not I would return somewhere again, but this is an absolute exception to that rule. Without a doubt. if someone were to suggest going here for whatever reason I would be absolutely 100% for it. Not only because the food is delicious, but the real draw for Kai Kai is that it has that "good time" atmosphere that leans well in its favour. For such a long time, Brisbane has lacked that niche where it balances a good night out, with one suited to either introverts or less party-focused people. Kai Kai has come onto the scene, proven to be that place, and all with an ingenuous spirit taking how Korean can distinguish itself in the cuisine market.

Loved that they offer a buffet and an ala carte menu. The food was tasty and our orders took less than 15 mins. My favourite flavours out of the 12: 1. Honey Soy
2. Pink Panther
3. Japanese
4. Soy Wasabi Mayo
5. Cajun with spiced mayo
6. Yangnyum

Loaded fries were all good!

Great value too! Add on 1.90 for free flow iced tea. There are other drink options including an alcohol list.

Be sure to visit when you're hungry to keep the wings moving !

Update: Came with a bunch of people who were getting a buffet and honestly I’m pretty disappointed with the service. Even though we informed them that some of us would not be getting the buffet (and even sat at one end of the table as they asked), they appeared to have forgotten about us and failed to take our order for ages, so in the end we had to get up and ask them. The food also came out pretty slowly.

The taste itself was fine though. Got the katsudon. Salad was nothing much - I dunno where the honey mustard went - but the katsudon was good and very crispy. The serving portion was also massive, and cheap for $12.90. They give you way more rice than you need.

Ice tea is far too sweet.

Past review:
Came here for the free chicken day and it was surprisingly good. The fries were super crunchy and the chicken was nicely fried. I wish they had boneless chicken, but at least they give you gloves. Will be coming back in the near future.

Best Fried Chicken wings in Brisbane.

End of story.
Enough said.
6 out of 5 stars!

And even better it’s cheap and buffet.
As to why it’s the best - so many good flavours and the batter is not too thick.

All good superheros have great origin stories, romances should also be the same. Some people meet their significant others through work or through online channels, but last year I met mine over at the anniversary celebration of KaiKai Chicken's grand opening via a well organised foodie gathering by the most esteemed BrisvEGustation  aka matchmaker extraordinaire. With allocated seating and limited spots, I went alone and was seated opposite Adam, who then proceeded to follow me around ever since. After that, everything was pretty much history. So with that in mind, we decided that it would be a nice way to celebrate our anniversary of meeting by going to Kaikai for dinner, which is what we did.

Been meaning to try this chicken buffet in Brisbane for so long, I finally got the chance to today and it definitely did NOT disappoint. We came on a Sunday afternoon which was not too busy yet, we were quickly seated by a very friendly waitress which quickly explained how the menu worked. The menu was large with options for a la carte or chicken buffet. We opted for the normal chicken buffet which was about $21pp - this option didn't come with the sides and drink, however we were able to order any of the 12 chicken dishes and chips which was great!

Honestly couldn't fault anyways and I absolutely enjoyed my visit, all chicken dishes were great flavourwise, all staff were soo friendly.

Definitely recommend and would obviously come again

A nice all-you-can-eat fried chicken place at St Lucia. Reasonably priced, however the wait between the servings can be a little lengthy. The chicken is very flavourful and cooked nicely. The loaded chips are also very delicious and crunchy. Highly recommended!!

Fried chicken place in the heart of st.lucia. Main target customers are students. Hence we came for the semester end student deal. Chicken buffet for 19.99 which includes all their wings and regular chips with tomato sauce. You can also add unlimited ice tea for 1.50pp. Chips were okay, nothing out of the ordinary - golden shoe string chips. There were about 10 different flavor of wings (some pretty fusion flavors). Good batter to wing ratio. Only thing is I feel like they add mayo on everything which makes the wings soggy. Much better if they have mayo on the side as an option.

All-you-can-eat fried chicken?! Hell yeah! Good double fried chicken with good selection of flavours. Good selection of dirty fries and other cooked foods too! Definately try to get a groupon deal, it basically comes with a free beer. But you will need it though, it will help wash down all the fried goodness.

This place has a great setup and awesome fried chicken, only been twice as it’s over an hours drive to get to but well worth it. I can only comment on the fried chicken buffet, it’s worth the money if you can eat and it also comes with heaps of extras too which fill you up pretty quick. Only downfall is the dessert being small but you can have as much as you want

If you dare to be different it could very easily end up in one big soggy mess. Fortunately Kai kai has nailed its intension.
Let’s be honest this is not fine dining, it’s not upmarket and it’s not a romantic venue for two.
What it is is a super casual, fantastic fun venue where a group of people can go and have a really good feed on delicious chicken and fries, pizza and even curry and wash it all down with delicious cold beer and cocktails and laugh the night away.
We had the all you can eat and drink option for an amazing $49.90 each. Seriously you can keep ordering freshly cooked chicken in 12 flavours served quickly and as many drinks as you can handle including bottle or tap beer and cocktails all subject of course to responsible service of alcohol in 90 minuet. That’s plenty of time to get amazing value out of 50 bucks, added up if purchased seperate I would easily have piled up a bill of $110 just for me. Worth every dollar and also the staff are great and the place is clean and .. well different. Definitely going back again soon.

I’ve been to Seoul Bistro in Sunnybank before and I wasn’t a fan of their excessive coating on the chicken. I was a bit worried that KaiKai Chicken was going to be the same but I was pleasantly surprised. I really loved it here, so much better than Seoul Bistro so if you are tossing up between the two definitely go to KaiKai instead, even if it’s further away (50 mins drive for us! But well worth it!)

The staff are super friendly and keep checking to see if you need to order more and I love the variety at the cheap price! I love that they have dessert included in buffet too! Super happy we tried this place :) We will definitely be back!

$24.90 for all you can eat was quite a good deal. Those 12 flavours deep fried chicken were interesting. We tried 6 flavours-original, buffalo with blue cheese, back dragon, soy wasabi, pink panther and Korean chilli. The original was simply the best though the fried chicken here not yet the best.

Apart from the chicken, Tokoyaki was pretty nice as well as korean stir fry potato noodle. Nacho cheese & bacon fried tasted dry and old, and the serve was way too big for 2 people. We would suggest food here should be served in smaller portions, so we could try a bit of everything.

Salad bar didn’t look inviting; neither did the dry pizza and some side dishes.

The best part of Kai Kai was the fast and attentive service.

My new favourite restaurant. Great service, friendly staff, Incredible food, affordable as well, really nice atmosphere. Targets a young Demographic in music style. Anyone who is a fan of Pokémon Go, this restaurant is in between 2 Pokémon Gyms. As a young 20 year old who loves pop culture this restaurant has everything. 10/10

Endless chicken wings...nuff said.

Ohh what you want to know more? The fact that there are endless chicken wings available isn't enough for you? Alright. It's a total hole in the wall off Hawken drive. It is a Korean fried chicken place that does an all you can eat Buffett, were essentially you just keep ordering until you are full, or you have stuffed enough into your bag with arising suspicions from the wait staff.

From memory there is like 10 or so flavours. All quite nice and tailor to your little hearts desires. A lot of sticky fingers and you do get a sugar rush from all the sauce. But def worth a try if you are a povo uni student.

The chicken was crispy and the sauce was blended well. I think it was a good place to hve korean chicken in st lucia.

[Update Nov 2019] Winner winner Kai Kai dinner! When you want some all you can eat fried chicken action, you won’t go wrong with Kai Kai Chicken - winner of the 2019 Australian Buffalo Wing Festival, People’s Choice Award for (Brisbane) South of the River Region.

Ok never mind that we were there for lunch, or that I can’t actually fathom how Kai Kai is south of the river, but hey it’s not my festival/rules 🤷🏻‍♂️ and anyways the people have clearly spoken (1.1K votes to second place 800+).

We came for wifey’s free birthday buffet (if you don’t know about this, do yourself a favour and hit up the link in my bio for the list of birthday deals to see more details), and went for the deluxe buffet package ($24.90) which comes with various sizes including fries, nuggets, onion rings, and salad to add some freshness and health balance 😄 More awesomeness followed when the staff told us they were having a promotion of free bottomless premium drinks package (normally $5.50) that weekend, so we also got to indulge in a selection of their ice teas and milk teas.

It’s been a few months since I was last here for the buffet, and the new items on the menu include:
* zesty lemon wings with lime aioli
* nuggets

I quite liked the nuggets with their crispy shell, however wasn’t a huge fan of the new wing flavour, and much prefer some of the old staples. The good thing with this place though is that with 12 flavours of wings to choose from, there’s sure to be something for everyone 👌
.
Is there anyone reading who hasn’t experienced a Kai Kai Chicken buffet? What’s stopping you? 😜

KaiKai chicken is my new favourite place to eat. The chicken is amazing. The prices are expensive if you’re eating a la carte, but the buffet is amazing value and is always impressive. Unlimited Fresh, tasty chicken, fries and pizza for as much as a trip to maccas is worth the drive to st Lucia if you live anywhere in the greater Brisbane district.

This place has by far the best chicken wing buffet in Brisbane. The buffet WILL become addictive. The manager is great, he's hands on and he checks to see if everyone is happy Pros: Unbeatable for the price. I hope they keep their prices low. Chicken quality is fantastic. Generous amount of flavours The mashed potatoe and gravy is amazing Good drinks Great portions Friendly manager and staff Cons: Only one dessert. (Would be nice if they had a few more). The mousse is available sometimes but it's only very average. They need to do the chocolate donut sandwich more often. If they did the chocolate donut sandwich, I'd be going way more than I do right now.

Excellent Korean chicken buffet. Heaps of different chicken flavours, however, the honey butter is hands down the best flavour. Great selection of Soju, highly recommend the honey. The service is great, especially considering how busy they get. Can get very busy, so best to go early, or expect to wait.

This place is really quite nice. I got the all you can eat wings buffet so I’ll be talking about my experiences from an all you can eat perspective. The staff is very friendly. And this is very important because in some other buffets it always feel like the staff is judging you. They look at you, or make you feel ashamed. But at this restaurant they basically don’t make eye contact while you’re eating and come and go very quickly. I know that sounds very specific but trust me this is important when you are trying to stuff your face full of wings. The dim lighting, ice tea and fast service are all also very helpful. The wings are very delicious, there are many flavours of wings and chips. Of course people go, why would you get full on chips when there’s wings, but chips definitely help contrast the intense flavour of the wings. Okay so I’ve also tried to order online here and it’s very expensive online. So 1/5 stars when you try to get it delivered but otherwise it’s great.

Male Asian server was excellent and on point with his service, this alone gave the place 5 stars, rest of the serving staff were a bit average though. We had the all you can eat chicken and beer, good value, 80% of the flavours were amazing, nacho cheese was a bit of a let down. Honey soy, takoyaki and black dragon were great standouts.

We had a really good time, the service was very quick. Our favourite chicken was the honey soy, but the others we tried were also really good. One thing I noticed that they don't mention anywhere online is that you can only have one bill per table, I went with a few friends and we all planned on paying individually so we had to quickly transfer money into one persons account. We also got the bottomless iced tea, but there were only two flavours, both flavours were good though. The jelly donut sandwiches were so filling and they were good, so definitely order the first time through. Also unless you have really big/hungry group I advise only ordering 2 different types of chicken at once so that you don't get full too early into your 90 mins. There were gloves sitting in one corner so that you could eat without getting your hands dirty, but no one told us so we didn't notice they were there until we saw other people using them, and by then it was too late. There are bathrooms there that were pretty clean, although the hand dryer did seem to malfunction when I tried to use it. Overall a 4/5 from me-good food, good service, only with some very minor issues.
