TL;DR: With the fine attention to detail for customer service all the way to the accessibility of the local Japanese eatery, Dami is a real treat that has been standing here for years and is not going away any time soon.

This small stretch of road can sometimes bring up a real good find. Right in front of the car sales yard, a few business along with some fine eateries sit there, with Dami possibly being the most eye-catching of the lot. What is serves is somewhat basic Japanese fare, but that basic fare is made with a keen eye for details. It will fill you right up, so step on in.

Another month, and we have ourselves another PPV event on the WWE Network. This one was one of their more enjoyable and gimmicky events, the Elimination Chamber. How excited I was - even more than usual. That could only mean on thing: I needed to find something to eat while watching the event. It was back to scrolling through the UberEats app, it became a case of seeing what looked good and what would be open around the given time. Well, what do we have here? After seeing it adjacent to other places that did delivery in the past, I was stoked to see good old Dami open right up for business in the delivery sector. After that, a few orders were plugged in, the time and place were set, and Bob's your uncle.

At first. Let me explain. Upon a few years experience with delivery services, the customer service part is not one of the richest aspects of it. It has the general structure of them arrive at your house, maybe you get a friendly fellow or lass drop off your order, and fingers crossed that the food gets there in a timely manner. Maybe it has always been the case, but I reckon all these online delivery outlets have had restaurants up the game. Still, more often than not it still gets stuck at whether the food arrives on time and is good enough to eat.

Dami goes beyond that. Upon placing that order, it was not long before I got a phone call from them asking about the details. To me, this actually gives the restaurant credit from them showcasing attention to detail. It was also the first time they had an order be in such advance and were simply checking to make sure the details were correct. That maneuver comes in conjunction with another important aspect in customer service - how the waitstaff come across to their clients. The lady on the other end was polite, and very personable. I can tell from that small interaction that when dining in, clients are treated very well.

Also with the service, this is amongst the quickest that I have experienced. Proximity possibly helps, the preparations all the way to the food being at the doorstep took less than half an hour. In the meantime, the UberEats app has installed a tipping option for each delivery to the drive - he would have gotten a generous bonus from me if it were in place back then. It all creates a prelude of positivity that will boost enjoyment when eating the food. That was definitely the case.

Menus will differ slightly between eating in, and getting it via the delivery app. Among them though, a general gist can be analysed. This appears to be more of a social eatery still keeping a relatively casual atmosphere. Therefore, you have the usual donburi and noodles for an individual portion, as well as plenty of bits and pieces to share. These include the general gyozas, tempura bites et al, but it doesn't stop there. What possibly gives the menu most of its character would be the sushi, starting of modestly enough with your nigiris, shashimis and all that - party platters are available at short-term request - but you have got to check out the fusion rolls. These are both filled and topped with all kinds of goodies, enough to be filling and leave an impression.

If the memory serves me correctly, with any of the main meals via delivery (at least where UberEats is concerned) the price is bumped up a little to incorporate a default inclusion of some entree bites. These were two spring rolls and three takoyaki balls. This is a great idea, giving just a little extra for the clients as well as keeping up value for money. With there being a first time for everything, the takoyaki balls came dry - none of the sauce, nor the characteristic shavings that come along with. These suckers were still tasty, with the creamy filling being very hot, as well as the fact this might have had the biggest lot of octopus in the middle. The spring rolls were more or less spring rolls, still hot and with a great pastry coating. Whomever thought of putting in this ingrained upgrade, you sir are an ingenuous one.

So getting onto how the food was, it was exceptional. My house mate often isn't too finicky in general, and the Japanese style of chicken curry is sure to impress him every time. So it was that that went on the order first. Even in not getting a bite of it, an observation towards the way it was served gets Dami some more credit. The restaurant gave a generous amount of curry sauce that was served in its own tub. That amount was more than enough to mix with the bed of rice, and the several bits of crumbed chicken. When credit ought to be given, it will be given.

For mine, I went back and forth on the selection, ending up eventually with Teriyaki beef. Essentially, this was the classic dish with a combination of meat and vegetables on top of rice. Both this meal, and the chicken curry, were generously portioned and filling. Many a Japanese takeaway have I frequented, and the portions here are up at the higher end of the scale. Each piece of beef was just as tender as the last, which meant they had a good cut in the kitchen. They were soaked in the teriyaki sauce to the extent you get the taste, but it is not overwhelming. Various vegetables including broccoli, carrot, and onion were mixed through, creating a colourful aesthetic which gave off plenty of crunch. Mixing it all in, there was just enough sauce to compliment the rice preventing anything from going dry.

In addition to the two meals, I threw in an entree platter. These platters are chef's choice, giving clients three random entree bites. I got platter B, which gave us some dim sims in the flavour of choice (it was prawn), crab cream croquettes, and tori karage. Between this, the bonus extras with each main meal, and some delicious main meals, about the only thing which would have rounded it off perfectly might have been a Ramune. Other than that, no complaints.

When the word entree platter comes to mind, it possibly is either a big selection of all they got or they select the greatest hits, and choose a couple of pieces from that lot. They use neither of those options, instead getting the full order of each concerned bite. The dumplings were that standard variety that was still hard to fault. They appeared to have been steamed, giving off that fluffy outer layer. That then gives the filling - prawn this time - a unique flavour and texture combination that brings out aromas that are hard to do otherwise. Those crab cream croquettes were even better, with a delicious mild, creamy center that went well with a robust crunchy outside.

However, the best of the best came with the tori karage chicken. They served big pieces of chicken karage, which had been cooked twice to give off the best crunch that they could conjure up. Inside this double cooking, the chicken became some of the most tender, most moist meat that you could ever want to come across and it only got better from there. A fusion of sauces, one being mayonnaise and the other teriyaki, gives of a distinct flavour in conjunction to a creamy texture, then is spread around every single piece. Almost smothered in fact, and this is so delicious and moreish - certainly a must to order when you are here.

Dami is several cuts above average, which means considering that we are talking about Japanese cuisine, that it is higher than originally anticipated. Serving sizes are generous and filling, each morsel of food is given the due attention and treatment to ensure both quality and taste is at a consistently high level. It is almost as good as it could get, just that bit shy of the perfect score of 5.0. I'm sure the sweets they got in store will be just as delicious, and could blow your socks off. It will be difficult to find Japanese eats that are both high quality, and as accessible as Dami. You have a real diamond on your hands.

We got there half another before closing time, they were very accommodating and still let us order from the full menu. The food came out pretty quick and service was swift. It's probably more Korean Japanese with flavours such Kim chi spicy udon and yellow cheese sauce on the sushi. I wasn't much of a fan of the yellow cheese sauce, the sushi would've tasted pretty great without it. Overall the food was good.

This place serves AMAZING and DELICIOUS food!!!! I really need to emphasise this because the food was so and really filling! The serving sizes were huge. I dare say the sushi rolls are probably the biggest I've ever seen in Brisbane. The okonomiyaki was really crispy, chewy and delicious. They were really generous with their sauces, which makes the food so tasty.

Dami has been talked about by Mrs Tomcat for months. The dark and moody Japanese eatery specializes in a variety of Japanese sushi, noodle soup and rice bowls. We were there for weekday lunch and after reviewing their extensive menu and premade sushi offerings, ordered: Teriyaki chicken rice ($11), chicken katsu rice ($12), salmon avocado sushi ($4) and California roll ($3.70).

The salmon avocado contains raw salmon, cucumber, avocado, shredded cabbage, mayo and nori. The salmon was fresh and flavourful, rice cooked to perfection with good chewiness and fragrant rice vinegar flavours. Each ingredient complemented the salmon and worked brilliantly together. 4/5

California roll was up next with crab sticks, avocado, fly fish roe, nori and mayo. First impression: lacked fly fish roe. A taste of the sushi roll however made the roe a minor issue. The sushi presented strong crab stick and avocado flavours with enhanced creaminess from the mayo. Paired with perfectly cooked rice, you have a sushi roll that excites the palate. No wonder this is Mrs Tomcat’s fav dish. 4/5

Teriyaki chicken rice arrived within 10min. The fragrant bowl of goodies contains sliced thigh meat with mixed veggies and white rice. A taste of the meat and I was blown away by the tender & juicy mouthfeel followed by “wok burn” taste (in a good way). The teriyaki sauce was perfectly balanced with right amount of sweet vs salty. The veggies were crunchy with each piece covered by the fragrant black sauce. Paired with very well cooked rice, one’s palate was taken to Japan. Oishii! 5/5

Chicken katsu was the last dish to arrive with crumbed chicken breast covered with a special brown sauce, finely chopped cabbage and steamed white rice. The chicken was crunchy, juicy and full of flavour. The brown drizzles showed strong Worcestershire sauce, soy, vinegar, ginger, BBQ and hints of spice. The dish was complemented again with perfectly cooked rice. As an overall package, it’s a tad on the salty side. 3.5/5

The restaurant encourages self-service where all cutleries and sauces are provided near the counter. The lady taking our order was polite, patient and keen to recommend menu items based on preferred taste. For a busy weekday lunch, it’s a 4/5

Hint: their lunch special items and sushi varieties is an average 4/5. I rarely give 5/5 scoring but their Teriyaki chicken rice is perfect from my humble opinion.

Great little Japanese restauraunt that offers great food with incredible value. Our group of four was able to get the $45 platter as an entree between the four of us, and then a main each on top of that. It was almost too much for us to eat, all for the around $20 each. Quality was excellant. A must visit for anyone looking for good value japanese in the southside.

Tasty well priced Japanese. I'm a big fan of the sushi here- especially the crispy chicken with cabbage (I'm sure I got the name of that wrong but it's very tasty!). Never too packed to get a table/ fast service/ yet a nice quiet, enjoyable dinner. I quite like the decor. Will definitely be back.

Great food. Nice warm atmosphere. My family visited this restaurant a few weeks age, on the great reviews they had on here and also a friends recommendation. The moment we walked into this tiny restaurant, we thought the feeling was warm and inviting.

It is a mum and dad operation by the looks of things, and we thought that maybe the service would be a little slow. Not so. Our order was taken fairly quickly.

We ordered a variety of entrée and main courses. They came out promptly and all tasted wonderful. I would recommend the curry. Not too over spiced, yet incredibly tasty.

Would recommend whole heatedly

We have now been there 3 times. Each time has been great.

Dami, you have done it again :). We come here because of the great food. The generous portion sizes and the prices give you excellent value for your meal. We have a special dish we always order which is the Tori Karaage Don but with extra curry sauce on top, so good!!! Its a cute little place so if you are planning to come during peak hours it is recommendable to make a reservation.

Great night out. Read the reviews on urbanspoon and thought we'd try this out for our 9y.o. son's birthday - found the food great, excellent value, decor was nice and service good. Would definitely go here again. We all had more food than we could eat (starters, main and dessert) and with BYO it came in at about $25 a head for everything - excellent value for a week night out. Octopus balls were scrumptious and the sizzling teriyaki salmon was very generous :) There was steady T/A traffic all night too (always a good sign). Only wish we lived closer and we could get T/A Japanese too - there isn't enough of this around.

Curry Sauce!. I've been here 2 times with mates, both times I ordered the same thing. If you like curry sauce, and if you like karaage, do yourself and favour and order the Tori Karaage Don with curry sauce. If normally doesn't come with it, but its a dollar extra well spent!

So glad i discovered it!. I live about two minutes' walk from Dami. Great, because it meant I was blown away when I discovered it's casual charm and cheap menu options. Terrible, because now I go there all the time. Too often, really. But it's just so delicious, and cheap and consistent. And they do takeaway. And it's BYO. Love everything about it.

After reading positive reviews about this place I decided to go there for my birthday dinner with my family. It was quite busy and lucky we booked a table. The service was slow in the beginning but once you ordered, the food came reasonably quickly. There were only 2 staff and one was constantly stuck behind the counter from take away orders. The assorted sashimi was great and not too expensive. The fried noodles were quite yum too but nothing special while the curry was the same. The spider was good. This place has a very nice decor and it's such a cosy little environment. Overall, it was very lovely and nothing special but it's all good. Only thing is to make sure you are patient when ordering and the food will come out. Definitely going back sometime :)

Tasty Japanese Dining with Value. After an awkward start to the evening, when we walked in for our reservation at 7pm on the dot and found all the tables full, we still managed to knock back a three course meal in under an hour. And all the food was cooked to a high level that belied the extremely economical prices on offer.
We started with the Gyoza and, although the oil might have been slightly on the hot side when cooked, we couldn't complain about the four tasty morsels for the $4.50 price.
Before we had managed to get through these the pleasant young waiter lad was back with a huge plate of Salmon Sashimi. The salmon was well cut and had the melt in your mouth aspect you expect from sashimi when done properly. The only fault was the packet wasabi, which never compares to a good home made version.
The dishes kept coming fast and furious, although the Spicy Beef Fusion Roll was not as furious as it could have been. The beef was definitely tasty but it didn't have the spicy hit that was expected based on its name.
By the time our fourth and final dish arrived we still had parts of the other three left, which is testament to the fabulous service in the completely full restaurant. The Tori Karaage Don didn't have as much of the sweet soy based sauce I am used to from this dish, but the chicken itself was cooked to perfection and the Japanese mayo was a great addition that added that sweetness I expected from Karaage Don I have had previously.
Although all the meals were of a generous size compared to many Japanese restaurants we still managed to find a little bit of room to squeeze in some Black Sesame Seed Ice Cream, which had great flavour but texturally wasn't as creamy as it could have been.
We will definitely be back to try more of the vast and well priced menu on offer at Dami, but we will be sure to book, as the place was full to the brim the whole time we were there.

Fab Japanese Cheap Eat. Discovered this place by accident. I don't write reviews on all places visited but this one is such value for money it deserves accolades. Cute and simple decor with a limited but satisfying menu that surprises. Don't expect exotic presentation and is not for fastidious Japanese dining tastes but wow they provide very tasty wholesome foods at great prices. Has become our "local" cheap eat. Spicy beef roll entree and barbecue spicy pork main my favourites.

Cute little place. Been here twice and what a blessing for the area! This part of the south-side lacks places like this, a cute, cosy, welcoming place with modern class and a decent offering of an ethnic cuisine to go with it.

Personally, I think the sushi is pretty good, not really top-notch presentation compared to other established places, but their flavour and filling combinations are interesting and sometimes a little left-field (take their cream cheese sushi rolls), which keeps things interesting.

However, some of their other dishes are rather plain and ordinary, like their unagi don and other rice or noodle offerings. Presentation of these meals aren't brilliant and rather disappointing given the feel this place gives. I think this is where improvement should be made.

Overall, stick to their sushi and you'll be leaving happy. Their service is brilliant (the lady remembered me by my second visit) and the place since it has opened has been busy pretty much every time I go past.

The service is very friendly and warm, which is quite common through Japanese restaurants. The food came out quite quickly, and it was clear that everything was made to order. The unagi that sat atop the dragon roll was nice and hot when served, and the chicken roll was too, which was masked in a crunchy topping that was drizzled with teriyaki sauce.  The double prawn roll was delicious too, with different textures present throughout all three sushi plates we ordered.
