Review K & K Cafe Restaurant - Brisbane

Travis Stanley
Great little Austrian cafe. Plenty of parking and a warm greeting upon arrival and table service. The food is delightful and there is a massive variety. We were served by Ash and she was extremely attentive, friendly, and provided wonderful service. Lovely atmosphere and well worth the trip.

A great European cafe. Lovely espresso served with water as it should be. Tradition straight from Vienna. Julius Meinl, the best coffee maker from Europe. They have newspapers to read which makes my coffee even more delicious. Staff are very friendly. Prices are good. Im going to be a regular there. Thats for sure...

I eat here regularly and the food and service is normally very good. However, yesterday (Sunday lunch) it took over an hour to receive our food and the portions were unusually small (one small piece of bacon and two chipolata sausages) for a k&k breakfast. Admittedly they were reasonably busy but not up to their usual high standards

Great local restaurant We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at this local Sinnamon Park restaurant. The lovely outdoor balcony was full of families and a piano accordion player in lederhosen - which gave it an almost authentic beer garden feel. The food was delicious and the service was super friendly! This is Austrian cheer and hospitality at it's best!!

Found K & K by chance as we were attending open houses in Sinnamon Park. As we are from German background were super exited when finding out that's a Austrian Cafe. Ordered coffee and Apple strudel with cream. Disappointed with the strudel as the apples were hard and not cooked properly and the pastry was soggy and not baked. My mocha and my daughter's hot chocolate were served in a glass that was not warmed up prior, resulting in cold beverages within 2 minutes. All in all not impressed - could've been a new regular joint for us. Don't ever think it's good enough as your customers don't know how it really should taste like. There are also customers like us around who do.

For A in our trip around the world in Brisbane we chose Austria, and so we found ourselves at K&K. The restaurant is located at the Sinnamon Park local shops, which offer convenient parking. Seating is well spaced and airy, mostly being on a covered deck that offers a late 80's - early 90's feel. The menu is extensive, which I can only imagine would make it challenging to manage stock and maintain quality. I had goulasch (beef shin braised in paprika sauce with a dumpling), and my lunch partners had a Vienna schnitzel with kipfler potato salad. To drink I had an Austrian beer, which was very enjoyable, and my dining partner had a Vienna coffee, which she also enjoyed. I'm advised that the schnitzel was "fine" and so was the goulasch. The dumpling seemed to have been made some time earlier, but was not bad. In hindsight I should have expected that... For desert we had an apple strudel and a cherry crumble tart. Both were fine, but I wish the strudel was a bit richer in spice. The presentation was a little cafeteria like. I suspect that cutting the menu down by half or to a third of its size would enable the chef to offer some amazing Austrian fare. While not out of this world, the $80 bill seemed a shade more than what was justified by the quality. After getting ourselves into the mood with some Austrian yodeling folk music on our way there, the local radio background music seemed like a bit of a letdown, TBH. Visually the dining space could be lifted with some Austrian cues to extend the Austrian theme in the point of sale area. The floor staff were all polite and genuinely sought to ensure we were well tended to. The lady from the kitchen who managed my payment got a bit flustered about something that didn't need to be a problem, and was uncomfortably gruff with the waiter that started my payment process, but remained polite with me. Please respect your staff. It's free, and reflects well on you. If you're up for some Austrian food and you're in the area, consider giving K&K a go.

Delivers consistently high standards of service and food including Austrian specialities. The large veranda welcomes both customers and their pets. The coffee is excellent!

Shocking service, rude staff, very average breakfast and coffee. Coffee was only warm. Waited a long time despite 3 staff on the floor. Live locally and decided to try this cafe for the first time, never ever again! We asked if they had sourdough on the menu and were told no but when we went to pay we saw that all their loaves for sale were sourdough. When question the staff gave a poor response and the owner just looked at us, really dissapointing. We also asked for spinach with breakfast and were told they don't serve it. We said we saw it on other plates but were told it was a salad mix "and we won't seperate this out for you". Quite agressive.

Quality Austrian/German Food - our favourite restaurant in this area. Try the schnitzel, porknuckle or the porkbelly. You cannot go wrong.

I had time for a quick stop for a takeaway coffee at this local cafeteria. Warmly greeted by familiar faces, I am told that despite the virus concerns business here is brisk!

My takeaway Cafe Latte is ready in minutes and it is hot, strong and flavoursome with a touch of bitterness. Just the way I like it!

Went here with several people for a work lunch function on a weekday. I tried the gulasch, which was deliciously homely with a generous serving of tender beef shin, rich paprika sauce and light dumping.

Friendly and efficient service. Casual ambience with indoor and outdoor seating. Reasonable prices.

Overall, delicious homely Austrian cuisine.

I've always wanted to try this place ever since they opened, and they have been opened for many many years. Yet I have never managed to stop by when back in Brisbane. Didn't have time for a meal, just stopped by to pick up some baked goods, afternoon tea for a friendly house visit. Got a pack of the mixed cookies, already packaged up with ribbons, perfect for gifting. The cookies themselves were a bit dense for my liking, but was a hit with my friend's family. The main thing is the staff at the cafe were so friendly, definitely makes you want to return for a meal.

The experience of having Pho as my unusual brekkie at a cafe that reminded me the episode of having the similar experience at this Austrian cafe a few weeks ago. Arrived early in the morning of Sunday. Approached the counter and was greeted by a friendly staff. My gaze browsed around and could not decide what to have and finally just placed the order of flat white and a danish. While I was taking a seat at the table, I saw the menu and discovered that there was something interesting. Therefore, I went to the counter and changed the danish to an order of Tiroler Speckkndel (Bacon Dumpling Soup). Coffee came first on the table. Well, if I read the reviews written by Joe K and Diana, I would not push my luck. I don’t know if it is because of the Julius Meinl or anything else, the coffee was the weakest one that I had so far in Brisbane (take it for granted that it was only one shot and please don’t tell me it was double shot!). Next came the soup, I am not an expert in tasting German food; honestly it was the first time I had such kind of dumpling. The broth delivered traces of meat taste and it was clear. The dumpling was not like something wrapped with pastry but bacon pieces wrapped with diced crumbled bread in ball shape. Very interesting meal and I did not mind to have a change. If the management could manage to improve the coffee, I will re-visit it to try other German food.

Best service I have ever had! Was greeted by waitress - Libby, I think (sorry, terrible memory)! She took my order swiftly and I enjoyed a perfect flat white and danish. Will return soon!

Delicious food can't wait to come back! The Vienna schnitzel was amazing and the potato salad the best ever! Having been to Vienna this place is very traditional!

I fly in ever couple of years to visit family in the area , and every time I am about to walk into this establishment I am warned to be sure to not upset the owner, that he is rude, arrogant and vitriolic with patrons, well he never seems to fail! Friday just gone I approached the counter to place my order " remembering that I have been warned about what may ensue" after placing my order of approximately $87 in coffees and the like, the owner ran out of the kitchen screaming at me, I quote " what part of table service don't you understand!!!" He continued his rant in and out of his native tongue, my nephew started to cry, while my sister gabbed my arm and said don't upset him as we haven't many places in the area to get coffee!!???? I would fly to Brazil or Kenya before ever setting foot in this mans establishment, I have just purchased my sister the newest model Nespresso Latttissimo and have started to look into getting her Austrian pastry cooking lessons, as know one should be treated like this! If this was a one off fair enough,but@this man is a serial offender in relation to poor customer service.

Had a really nice lunch today here. Customer Service was great and the food was very pleasant. It was just enough food that you were full but not too much that you couldn't finish. Was our first time here and we will be back!

Menu is surprisingly extensive but the chef seems to have everything in hand. We had the leberknodel soup which transported us back to Vienna where we first tasted it. The braised beef rib special was delicious! It was well seasoned melt in the mouth goodness without the fatty bits which short rib can be full of. The schnitzel at the other table looked delectable.

The owner very kindly told me where he got the sausages for the restaurant which I did not expect. Nice man.

Loved the way the coffee was presented on a silver tray with water & such a beautiful cup too- Julius Meinl brew & matching cup! Just didn't enjoy the flavor of the coffee at all however. My friend also found it to be a little sour & insipid. The Austrian delights were another story however. What a wonderful selection I thought I was in Salzburg. The almond & custard croissant are amazing & they are large enough to share. There is a cute little area to sit outside & there are a couple of friendly dragons which love to share the space!!

Delicious, simple meals well refined. Good size portions not too large and not too small. Great food a little bit expensive but it's worth it. Service is average but the food is amazing! Have to try! Great Austrian renditions.

K&K Austrian Bakery and Coffee House - Jindalee, Brisbane. Hidden away in a leafy suburban street, that is many long turns away from the highway, K&K in Sinnamon Park is an impressive and maybe out-of-place find on the far end of your typical shopping junction in suburbia. Let's put it this way: the menu here is quite extensive. Primarily, it contains a lot of the delights from the Bavarian section of Europe, which encompasses Austria, parts of Germany and all around the Alps. For what they can do with the space they have been given, they are doing well. There are some seats outside on the pavement, and a few on the balcony out front among the trees. Inside, they have a number of touches akin to the beer halls in the home country.

Starting out with breakfast, it is nothing really unusual, just a range of continental options and a few basic orders otherwise. This is available all day. During the lunch and dinner time, diners have an excellent choice of many sorts of soup, traditional hot Viennese meals, specialty schnitzels and grostels plus plenty of lighter options which include sandwiches, pies and bakery items. Within this super-generous range of options, they have a good selection of cakes - this is more or less what my dining buddy and I came here for (and it was late in the afternoon).

Finally, finishing off they have a range of drinks up to the eyeballs:it contains a good range of European and Australian beers, and wines. Then there is the tea and coffee options, with some of them containing alcohol, and finally all other kinds of cold, non-alcoholic beverages including juices, the usual sodas, milk-based beverages and even a plain glass of milk.

As aforementioned, it was a simple coffee and cake order for me. More specifically, the order consisted of a double espresso and a cake I had not seen before called "Esterházy torta". Named after a Hungarian prince, this cake is made with a buttercream base and is spiced with a vanilla flavour. The structure of the cake is like a multi-layered sandwich, with the filling being almond meringue dough. Next it is iced with a fondant glaze and decorated with its characteristic chocolate stripe pattern. Finally, the outside has a coating of walnuts around it.

Yes, this is as every bit as delicious as it could sound. This cake had a delicate, somewhat subtle flavour, however the real appeal of it was just how delicate and lavishly decorated it was. Lots of effort must have gone into making the cake, and it is well appreciated. This is like few other kinds that are around, and any sweet tooth about the place should certainly consider trying it out sometime. This was to go with the coffee that I ordered, which was a simple double espresso. The coffee that they use comes from Julius Meinl, which is a Viennese company, points on efforts to maintain authenticity. The espresso was well brewed and had a good depth in flavour and strength.

It may have merely been coffee and cake, but I don't think that I have seen service like this in this regard before. On one single tray, the coffee was brought over, along with a glass of water to accompany it. This is a traditional Viennese way of serving coffee, and it was a nice touch to the place. More or less, the company Julius Meinl is an ambassador to the Viennese coffeehouse culture which is more or less alive here. Not many places seem to do this around the city. The service was pretty good at the time, that kind of good where they are aiming to please amidst business either dying down for the day or resting quietly before the next big meal (i.e. dinner).

Heading on out of the cafe-bakery, I noted some bretzel (pretzels made from bread to distinguish them from the packaged snacks) on the counter, and to be able to give a fairer review to this place bought one before both of us were merrily on our way. This was a good little snack to share, with a chewy texture and plenty of rock salt sprinkled all over the pretzel. It must have been freshly baked, and there is certainly a world of difference in its preparation and aroma.

K&K is certainly one place that I have to come back to in order to do a proper review. The food looks and sounds too delicious not to take the opportunity, and I am looking forward to that time. As a place for a between-times snack, it does itself good as well which was evident with one of the nicer pairings of coffee and cake that I have had in recent memory.

Food can be ok but the owner loudly and repeatedly abusing staff and customers on a number of visits reminds us of the Soup Nazi character in Seinfeld - we will not be back

There were 3 adults for lunch as we heard about this place on tv. my son in law ordered a burger that he was happy with, I had the meatloaf with salad which was ok and my daughter had beef goulash, it was tender but absolutely disgusting with the amount of fat and gristle in this dish . the service was sub standard and quite rude. we wont be back.

We've been here twice and the food is great, but the owner loudly berating his staff (including reducing one girl to tears) in front of customers was a real turn off during our second visit.

Update 17/6/17

Ok, there is a certain Fawlty-esque charm when a customer complains about how long his meal is taking and the owner berates him for not calling and ordering before he arrived. Thank god the food is good!

Popped in for a grostel and wasn't disappointed. Great feed, great service.

Yah das ist gut.. This place gives me German gooseberries and I mean that in a good way. I had a fantastic coffee here and a very unusual, but decidedly divine piece of cake. The waitress brought me my cappuccino on a small silver tray with a glass of water. How European and a charming touch. My coffee was made on the Julius meinl coffee bean which was distinctive and flavoursome. I really like this place and could quite easily eat my way from one end of the cake/pastry cabinet to the other. Curse this diet. Anyway folks, do yourself a favour and support your local Viennese bakery, as it is excellent.

Not impressed. I live nearby and have been in this cafe several times, despite of good food and yummy cakes the Owner's attitude and customer service is very poor.
This morning we went there with a group to have brekky and we all asked to have our cofee in take away cup. He said I don't like my customer sit in my restaurant with take away cup and literally impolitely asked us to live and not coming back! I'm still shocked for this behaviour with regular customer !!!

Not impressed with the staff's attitude today. Got here first, but served customers came after me first. Wait for a while for the waitress to order to meal, was not professional, came with a cold "hi". But food is always good. Will still come back.

Beautiful Brunch. We live in the area and have eaten at K&K a few times now - both dinner and brunch. Thought it ws about time I wrote a review.

The few times I have been there for dinner it has been lovely - but I will review again next time I go. For this review, I will stick with the brunch I had on Saturday. We always have brekkie/brunch out on Saturdays and the Coffee Club at Mt Omm is our usual spot for a bit of people watching before doing the shopping. On the weekend however hubby decided he needed a change, so K&K it was.

To start with the coffee is great - probably some of the best coffee I've had in a while - even beating the Melbourne coffee's I had on my recent girlie weekend down there. It came out quickly and was hot and delcious. For meals - I ordered the omlette as I had had it a while back and loved it. It came out exactly as I remembered and was even more delicous this time around - full of tomato, mushroom and onion - delicious. Hubby had the eggs benedict - he's not usually an "benny" eater so I was surprised at his choice, but again beautifully soft-poached eggs and the hollandaise was fantastic with a good lemony hit (I like mine lemony) - served on toasted english muffins. His verdict - lovely!

Service was pleasant and quick - the only glitch that the eftpos machine didn't want to "play", so it took a little longer to pay - but that was okay, we weren't in a hurry. With a good patronage with most tables being filled - its a great place that the locals all know about. HIghly recommended.

Not impressed. Went there last night as a farewell dinner for my German exchange student. The staff were really struggling to cope with everything. The water came out after we finished our meals, They advised they had no sparkling wine upon my ordering one, but after further encouragement they searched again in front of us (bum in the air) in the low freezer and right at the back she found a box of wine? Never seen anything like this before! It was crazy.

Couldn't figure out when you arrive if it was table service or not? Meals were ok, we were definitely out-ordered by our exchange student. I think his meal was the best. We would not re-order the same meals if we ever went back. Everything was very different to what you would expect from the menu description, which is fine, if it is better than what you expect but it was not! Very poor service by the staff and drinks took forever to come. Really not a great restaurant only thing they have going for them is that they are unique in our local area.

We had brunch and it was relaxing, food was quick to serve. Friendly staff very tasty and professional winter type meal. $30 average price for mains but very filling

No value for money. Portions are small and overpriced. We had a frankfurter and Röschti. But the Röschti wasn't made fresh - instead they used frozen hash browns and put them in the deep fryer... Not what you would expect from an Austrian Restaurant!
Monica
Consistently great coffee. I haven't eaten a lot at K & K, but have had coffee there numerous times, and it consistently delicious every time. It is the same cup every time, which I love. Had a meat pie there a few months ago, which is the best meat pie I have ever eaten

Have you experienced genuine Austrian food, the real stuff? Well now, you can. Opening their doors back in 1996, K&K Austrian Cafe & Coffee House brings you the gastronomic delights of Austria to Brisbane town.

I heard about this place from a couple of friends and when I lived in Mount Ommaney, it was just around the corner. Of course it makes perfect sense (sarcasm, guys) that I choose to go once I've moved to the other end of Brisbane.

It constantly amazes me just how hard it can be to find a decent breakfast... even more so now that we have moved out to the 'burbs. So when I saw a glowing review for the K and K Austrian Bakery at Sinnamon Park, I just had to give it a try. So this morn
