The food is limited, but that's not a bad thing. The service always comes with a smile 😁 and they are attentive. The place itself is a relic from the 1930s and the furniture, wall decorations, etc., reflect this. Have a go, you'll like it! Oh, and the coffee is quite nice, too!
Went here for weekend lunch. Very cute, 'Pinterest' decor.
We had the "yiayia's lunch" and "lamb and greek salad". Both were delicious and filling. Note, the olives are not pitted. We only wished that they had one or two vegetarian options too. Coffee and homemade lemonade were also good.
Choose a table and pay at the counter. The service was very friendly and approachable. Reasonably priced.
Overall, a lovely brunch/lunch place for catch ups with friends.
Sweet place, love all the fresh flowers on the tables. Had the 8 minute eggs with bacon, cherry tomatoes with hollandaise sauce on sourdough and poached eggs with smashed avocado and cured ocean trout, we were so impressed with the food, very fresh and tasty. Definitely will be back to try the lunch menu.
Had a nice lunch at this café which seems quite renowned as there are many regulars. Ordered cup of coffee, green tea, Ocean Trout & Lamp Rump. Yet, the lunch menu is simple and does not offer many choices, the dishes that we ordered are delicious. Presentation of Ocean Trout looks refreshing and actually the proteins are. I love the lamb rump which is done spot-on, together with dices of eggplant and tomatoes that delivers strong Greek feeling. The vibe here recalls my memory of visiting Bali, it is so slow living style and diners are relaxing and indulging in having their gathering with low voices during their conversation. If you compare that situation with eateries in Sunnybank area, I don't think you can enjoy lunch in such a quiet and peaceful environment.
Great little cafe with Greek inspired food. A bit out of the way for me otherwise I could see it becoming a regular. The difference good service makes 👍
Coffee really nice, even didn't have any latte art. We come a little bit late. So we missed their breakfast. However their lunch menu is simple but the recipe is pretty good, Mushroom sausage sandwich and eggplant cheese baked. Soooo amazing! Just the menu a little bit boring. But it's a good place to go!
A Short visit but a delightful one. Made last min plans to catch up with friends for afternoon tea (Although we hadn't had lunch so were hoping to get both lunch and afternoon tea). We arrived at 2:30pm unfortunately missing the lunch menu, however they kindly offered us chicken and egg sandwiches that were left from the day and they were simple but delicious. We then ordered cakes and drinks. I had a homemade iced tea and my husband had a coffee. I couldn't fault anything I ate. The cake was a citrus sponge - beautifully light and served with vanilla bean infused cream. I would like to go back to get the full experience for breakfast or lunch (I didn't give them a 4 because I don't think I've experienced enough yet). The place also has beautiful vintage decor - a lovely atmosphere. Will return soon.
Delicious food, excellent service and a great dessert that we took home to share. It's a really charming cafe and they champion that they work with local produce. I can't wait to try more of what's on the menu and have a chance to tell the chef how good it is in person, because we didn't get that opportunity last time!
Absolutely amazing quality food, great service and wonderful homey atmosphere/decor. The ingredients used are super fresh and you can really taste it! They even have fresh cut flowers. This has got to be one of my favourite breakfast/brunch spots around Woolloongabba.
shared a Breakfast Board it was only fitting to try something else on the menu. Cake. Made fresh daily, they have all the hallmarks of good home baking. Slightly wonky, little chewy baked edges and generous dollops of icing, they come in an array of flavours such as Lime and White Rum w Citrus Marscapone, Earl Grey & Lavender or Pistachio & Rosewater. My slice of choice was a heavenly slice of Chai with Cream Cheese icing.
Had my second visit to Gertrude & Mable today and wasn't disappointed. I had the seafood bisque and while crab intended for the bisque was deleted because staff thought it's quality might be compromised, the bisque was still absolutely delicious. Staff offered me a complimentary dessert or coffee as compensation for the missing crab. I also had a homemade lemonade which really struck the right balance .... very refreshing. My eating companion had a goat's cheese tart which she found absolutely delicious. I love the ambience of this place. Glasses from yesteryear are used, hand embroidered cloth napkins ... beautiful flower arrangements. I'll be back.
Gertrude and Mabel is an intricate, homely cafe. From the customer service to the soup of the day, everything is cosy and warm and feels genuinely made.
Goodness gracious how bodacious. This is such a pretty cafe. Flowers, chandeliers, mirrors, old fashioned china make a visit feel like an occasion any time of the day. As for us, we came for lunch and had plenty of good choices, despite the menu being small. Leek and potato soup for my friend (the verdict: really beautiful), and the very generous Greek tasting plate for me. The tasting plate was super value at $17 - meatballs, beans, stuffed cabbage rolls, feta cheese, dip and bread, only small quibble is that more bread would have been good. Another big plus - the warm friendly service. Overall a very nice cafe, definitely a keeper.
The coffee was delicious and consistent quality across the table. The food was well cooked and of a high standard. All our dishes were delicious so can't pick one over the other. Simply brilliant. Well done.
I have been here plenty of times and I have never been disappointed. Such a lovely family run business and the food is just simply amazing! Plus don't forget to try their Greek Shortbread (the one with icing), I always buy some to take home and it doesn't usually last long. I'm so glad this place is just down the road from me, as I am a frequent visitor.

I love this place. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted by the lovely staff that work there. The whole style of the place is absolutely adorable, and a nice place to sit, have a coffee and a piece of baklava.
Absolutely amazing, my favourite breakfast venue. The 8 minute eggs are always perfect, and the avocado breakfast is sublime. We eat here with family often, and we are always warmly welcomed.
Perfect!. My partner and I have been going here since it opened and the one thing it has that the majority of cafes in Brisbane lack is continuity of service and standard of food. I still am amazed that this place is exceptional every time.....why is it so hard with all the other places? Danielle is a sheer delight that welcomes you like your truly missed each time and the food is always at the same impeccable standard. As a tea drinker and very fussy about it, this place is one of the few places that I enjoy a good cuppa! Thank you and long may you reign!!!!
Fresh and tasty food. It was obvious that the food had been prepared with love and care. The cherry tomatoes were sweet and tasty, I suspect they were home grown. Loved the fresh flowers and old fashioned embroidered napkins. We'll be back for sure!
What a wonderful place!
having dined here twice recently I can definitively say this is now my favourite local cafe. the food is lovingly prepared with the freshest ingredients and the owners/waitstaff are super friendly.
I have taken my 4 mth old son with me on both occasions and he has been very welcome.

Diana. The food here is full on flavor. Loved it. The avocado was magic with flavor bursts of basil & that gorgeous mozzarella put together with those ultra sweet tomatoes-the ingredients did the talking here. The coffee was well poured but a little on the weak side for my taste. Partner loved the pork sausage with the smashed peas
Wonderful coffee and food & exceptional service that makes you feel at home. I have found myself popping in at least 1x per week, if not more! My week feels incomplete without having the delicious Mum's Bircher Muesli and 1 or 2 or sometimes 3 long black coffees :-)
Danielle and her team are very friendly and as a regular they even greet you by name and remember your "usual". I love this extra level of service. Completely unnecessary, but a small thing that sets them apart from nearly every other cafe! The atmosphere is super cool. There is great ambience. And the aircon is a treat during these really hot days.
The food is delicious. The presentation second to none. And the bit I love most is that the ingredients are locally produced and even home made by the owners family. To get a sense for it, you must try the honey on the Muesli!!
The other great thing is the wide variety of people that frequent. From mums out with their little ones in a pram; through to teenage school kids; to the local regular retiree; a couple out the front with their dog; and then of course those perhaps knocking out a business meeting. Nothing seems out of the ordinary and gives it charm!
An absolute gem that you should not hesitate in trying!
Lovely cafe, small breakfast venue but delicious food! Loved the embroidered napkins.
To the review that says "no child policy" - what a load of rubbish.
Awesome!. Coffee here is great. One of the best in Brisbane. The sausages and smashed peas is lovely. And, homemade biscuits...
Gorgeous cafe. My husband and I went to Gertrude and Maple for the first time today- what a cute little venue! Absolutely loved it. Great coffee, lovely food and friendly, warm servcie. We will definately be back!
Beautiful food. House made is their philosophy and they are right. You can taste the love. Have the passion fruit melting moment. Butter and air! We will be back.
Really good quality & excellent tea. The menu is not extensive but the quality of everything is really good & extremely tasty. We had a brunch & some moved on to home made cakes - all excellent. The teas too are really nice, which is a treat in Brisbane. The venue is comfortable & attractive, I'd highly recommend this cafe.
Lovely brekky spot for a nice catch up and coffee with friends! I liked the extra touches like proper napkins and the bathroom being so well decorated! Will definitely return to this as it's a great local spot!
Sweet Intermission. What a cute little place and with freshly made cakes and great coffee this place is all I need but the sweet flowers and vintage napery provided additional old world charm
Gertrude and Mabel has a cosy, family vibe. Food wise the focus is on doing a few things well - delicious homemade baked treats and decent tea and coffee. The meals menu is quite limited but we sampled all the breakfast items and have no complaints - nicely presented, tasty and appropriately priced. The service was friendly, a little on the slow side but about right for the suburban neighbourhood location. Loved the little extra touches including fancy napkins and fresh flowers on the table.
Had breakfast here recently and was pleasantly surprised . The coffee was excellent and the food was fresh , tasty and really good value . Had the toasted brioche which was delicious . Have it with the maple and banana . Yum!! A welcome addition to the cafe scene. Well worth a visit
Now my favourite place in Brisbane for a morning coffee! Can't wait to show it off to all my girlfriends. The decor is beautiful right down to real flowers on each of the tables. Friendly service and most important of all good food with a really unique menu -loved the rice pudding. What a treat to find that available! The bircher museli was presented so well also. Overall lovely experience. Definitely would love to book an event here.
Love love love this place. Been 4 times and the food, service and coffee has been amazing every time. Such friendly staff and fresh ingredients. My new favourite!
Hi Epicurean. Thank you for your review. We enjoy receiving feedback on our business, both good and bad, as it helps us improve. Gertrude and Mabel is a family run business, with staff that are sisters, brothers, mothers, aunties and cousins. Not trained hospitality professionals at all. While they are not the best of the best, they are family and will do anything they can to make you feel welcome. Thanks again for your honest review and we hope to see you again sometime.
Oooh, I do love cute little cafes! This was on my post night shift list for quite the while but we always found bigger, better and places with recent menus to go to! Gertrude and Mabel had a really old menu and a few reviews mentioned that the menu was always changing here. I love a seasonal menu, so that's what cinched it for me! If you're approaching from the south side, it can be a bit difficult to get to as Gladstone road is quite a busy one. Watch out for the local school nearby and its right beside a laundromat! This place! The place is cute. I liked the flowers on the table and their large assortment of takeaway cakes! Up top! Their cute Christmas decoration What on earth is this cute little plant! With its crinkly, light edged leaves! It's super cute. Cuteeee Anyway, here is the menu for the time that I went! I was pretty delirious after nights when I went the first time. I said that I wanted a really, really strong coffee so I ordered a chai latte made with soy with a triple shot of espresso. I think they knew I wasn't exhausted/right in the head, and gently told me that chai lattes didn't contain coffee, but they could make me one anyway. It was delicious, albeit made on powdered chai. Why do I love dirty chais so much? The cutlery is really cute here, heavy, old fashioned silverware with an embroidered linen napkin! Cute~ The first time I went here they were out of the loukaniko for the breakfast board so I went with my second choice of the house cured ocean trout, basil, avocado, tomato, buffalo mozzarella, olive oil, eight minute egg on top of black bread. I enjoyed every part of this breakfast, it was a touch on the small side but the ocean trout melted on the tongue, the tomato and basil were very fresh, the eight minute egg had a wonderfully creamy white and soft, slightly gooey yolk. I just wish it was a touch bigger! Pretty as a picture The second time around I got the berry iced tea. It was exactly as the name suggested, a cup of tea, with ice and
Although the name Gertrude and Mabel may promote the idea of a cafe exclusive to elderly women, I thought this cafe has plenty to offer all. It's suburban location in a non-hyped up part of town means there's no stress finding a parking spot and I saw a few diners with laptop set up using the cafe as a nook for study/work. The food is fresh and tasty and the sweet treats are all baked in-house. They also do events like weddings and high tea parties so that might be a good idea if you're looking for function space.

We had the ‘trust the chef’ collection which was great value for such beautiful food. There was more than enough food and my particular favorite was the risotto and pasta main dish. Friendly service and beautiful setting. Lovely cocktail list too.
A small charming cafe in Woolloongabba. Service was prompt and lovely. I love their breakfast menu because there is variety and I'm tired of having the same and usual breakfast options with cafes. We had Croque Madam and KFC for breakfast and it was yum. The croque was a little too greasy for me though but it's still good.
Quick service, great food and happy staff despite the current restrictions. Owner came out and checked on the food which I thought was great. No kids menu at the moment but the chef made up a fancy fish and chips for our young grandson.
Most amazing gluten free breakfast ever! Nice portion sizes and buzzing atmosphere. Will be back!
One of my fave places for food in Brisbane!!! Great service & flavoursome food.
Have been for dinner, breakfast & lunch & have loved all 3 experiences. Sure it's a little more expensive, but you are getting great quality food. I've read reviews where people said the service wasn't good, & I've never had a problem on all occasions we've dined here. The staff are just beautiful 👌
TLDR: stunning cafe food, great ambience, bad coffee :(
Let's just start with the bad because this place is generally so good! The coffee. The bitter notes carry from first sip to last. Unfortunate.
Now for the great.
First we were warmly greeted at the door, and for a party of 8 plus 4 kids that is no small thing. The decor is elegant, with a great jazz vibe. With such a big group we were accommodated in the pastry kitchen (!) upstairs.
The food was excellent. My wife ordered the Pork Belly with chipotle bread special of the day. Fantastic - and the addition of the spiced bread was welcome. The kids shared the buttermilk pancake and while they found the Pineapple not to their like (hey, they are kids) the pancake was a delight - perfectly light and cakey with crisp edges.
But perhaps the best plate of our morning was the rolled mushroom omellete containing a triple brie river wrapped in the middle, and wonderful notes of truffle layered throughout. Very few times have I had to pause after every bite, looking off into the distance self-reflectively like an idiot because the dish before me is so good. Well done Pearl Cafe, well done.
We shall be back!
Great cafe with a varied menu featuring high-end ingredients, so a good choice for foodies.
