Review Cafe De Siam - Brisbane

Really authentic Thai food. Love it. Friendly and lovely staff.

I was lucky enough to try this venue out in the first week that it opened and came back a few times after. Since then I moved interstate and back again. I have come back to a great little Thai restaurant. The staff are lovely and the food is scrumptious. There was a lost entree unfortunately but out eyes were bigger than our stomachs so it was not a big worry. Looking forward to my next visit.

Myself and my lovely lady love this place. Only once had a dodgy chewy beef dish and the problem was rectified quickly. Yes sometimes the service is slow, or perhaps we all just want and expect everything too quickly? The food is awesome, the owner? chef works harder than most people could possibly imagine. Dont believe all the negative reviews here. Its a great place a friendly place with exceptional food. Sometimes good things take time to appear from the kitchen. Patience is rewarded.

Best Thai I've ever had, one of my favourite restaurants in Brisbane. Lots of vegan options, lovely and very welcoming staff and perfect food! Cute outdoor area and BYO. Always recommending this place to anyone who likes Thai food!

The food here is delicious but my god is the service bad. We have been here a couple of times hoping it was just a bad night for them but they are really understaffed all the time. It's been almost two hours since we ordered (at the counter because you can never get anyone to make eye contact with you) and we are still waiting for the second dessert we ordered (we ordered two and only one came). Having said that the food is amazing and I definitely recommend the banana roti for dessert. If these guys got the service right it would be the best place in town!!! But alas, only come here if you are happy to chat and wait a long time for your meal, and don't expect table service as you'll frequently see people ordering at the counter and waiting at the counter to get more water bottles.

We've had a good time before but tonight was terrible. Waitress was nice but there was only one and we had to waits ages ... for.. every... little... thing. The floor was sticky under our table (I'm talking a puddle of something). Food came out slowly and intermittently but to be fair was nice. Delivery driver parked us in for about 15 minutes when we tried to leave.

Having traveled all over Thailand and eaten at a lot of Thai restaurants in Australia, I can confidently say that this place is up there with some of the best. Thanks for the great food guys!

Took my mother and family here for mothers day!

We made a booking, and got a nice table in their cosy outdoor setting!

It was a nice surprise when they told us that for mothers day, we get a free curry for mum, so we took full advantage of that!

My Sister is a vegetarian so she was accommodated, but the rest of us are meat eaters, so devoured our chicken curries, penang was awesome!

It's BYO so we popped over to the Bottle shop beside the restaurant and got a bottle which was nice!

Staff were friendly, and overall it was a nice experience! Mum loved it!

Thanks Guys!!

We have made Cafe de Siam our little local fave, always great tasting and fresh food. Last night we had a pork larb and a Tom Som Salad for something different and light from usual, both large servings and all fresh, fragrant. Prawn dumplings for entree are a must try. Always great food.

Oh my, when I first reached this place. It felt a little underwhelming. The only thing that excited me was the wonderful aroma flirting across the restaurant from the kitchen.
Then the food came. I was instantly surprised to see such a big portion for only $12.90! I ordered the Pad Thai, and it was absolutely delightful! Even beansprouts, portions of meat, it was basically cooked to perfection.
My companion loves authentic Thai cuisine and he tells me that even the thai milk tea uses a special brand of tea leaves. When he spotted the brand at the restaurant, he got really excited!
At the end of the meal, we were treated to a small cup of complimentary dessert by the staff. All in all, I had an amazing dining experience, I will definitely be back and I will not hesitate to recommend this gem in Paddington.

Service was great. My roasted crispy duck and mixed seafood Som Tum were nice and flavoursome though they however lacked depth. The ginger sauce of the duck would fare better with more ginger and pepper, and less sugar. The salad dressing would be much better with a tint of fermented crab and/or fish (Pu Dong and/or Pla Raa).

Absolutely magnificent 😋💖! Words can't even begin to describe - it's my favourite restaurant and I could eat there all day everyday! By far the best meal is the Chefs Special Siam Sunset Soft Shell Crab and the Crispy Silky Tofu Salad, but literally anything on the menu is guaranteed deliciousness 😍😍😍

Best Thai in Brisbane, always great food and friendly staff. Super relaxed environment with really fresh healthy food. Have been there a number of times over the years and have never been disappointed.

THIS is Thai!. We moved to Briz a year ago from inner west Sydney, where I swear there is at least 40 Thai eateries in Newtown alone. Cafe de Siam isn't vegetarian, I think it used to be but not any more. We've now had two shots, one takeaway and one eat-in, and these guys are pulling it off. Surprisingly our go to dish is egg plant and mince something-or-other, which I would highly recommend. Love the place, and will be back again!

Tom yum & Tom kha were too salty. Both curries were watery with undercooked potatoes. Massaman beef was tough. Only roast duck was tasty :(

One of my favourite thai spots. Absolutely tasty and has been for years. Current owners are darling & the staff. Siam noodles are off-tap. Delicious thai, a gorgeous setting.

Always great!. I've been frequenting this great little Thai place in Paddington for many years now. It is always good, without fail. The soft shell crab in the siam sunset sauce is my favourite, and I am convinced that they do the best Pad Thai in Brisbane!

Lovely food, very friendly service - I ordered medium and could have used a little more heat but cannot fault anything else. !

Always fabulous. I have been here countless times now. The food is simply the best Thai in Brisbane. The focus on healthy eating (if you want it) is great, and the service is always impeccable. This place has been here for a few years now, and I can see why they are always busy. Keep up the good work!

Worth a try. Not being bothered to cook anything tonight, I randomly decided to try this little Thai place just around the corner from me. CafĂ© de Siam gives new meaning to the phrase ‘looks can be deceiving’. Basically it looks like someone went on a shopping spree to the local thrift shop and threw together a whole heap of stuff to create this humble restaurant, but....the food is amazing! The Panang Prawn Curry was nice and thick, just like a good curry should be and exploding with peanutty goodness. The coconut prawn rolls were for lack of a better word ‘orgasmic’- thick, juicy prawns layered with fresh shredded coconut and wrapped in pastry. My dinner date tells me the spring rolls were also quite nice and particularly liked that they were stuffed with tofu – nice healthy twist. And the service? Outstanding! Very polite and respectful staff who like to bow a lot:) Overall very enjoyable!

Not Great. We had a pretty bad take-away from here. Probably the worst Thai food we've had. Other reviewers seem positive so maybe this was a one-off aberration. It was not good to see $70.00 worth of food go in the bin, but that's how bad it was.

Absolutely loved this place! Staff are lovely, proportions are huge and food is fantastic! I'd definitely also recommend checking out their dessert menu (in particular their banana pancakes! You will not regret!!)

Best asian food in paddington. The girls here are so friendly and takeaway orders are always ready in under 20mins. The "strange smell" one reviewer was alluding to may be shrimp/fish paste used in the stock base - walking past at about 5-6pm you can smell them frying it off , which is how thai curry should be made. I love the fish in ginger and shallot, and the pork laab. Almost as good as my mum's :)

Great food and good location and relatively relaxed atmosphere are all let down by the substandard level of service. The three times I have been there in 2013 I have watched any service past the stage of the main meals being served completely evaporate. After this the wait staff clear up plates that hadn't been cleared when other guests were seated (only cleared after they had left) and pack up tables whilst our plates from main course sat on the table for over 20 mins after we had finished eating. I tried in vain a number of times to get the waitresses attention, but seemed to be staring into space or otherwise on a robotic mission to get packed up for the night. I was keen on our 2nd visit to try some dessert, but no chance on that one after such a long wait again with the plates on the table that seemed to be invisible along with any requisite service so lost interest on that one. All concerned at this establishment need a big reality check on the basics of minimal service standards for a la carte as this falls far short of the basics. Such a shame as the food is great!

We only have returned as it's easy to get into on an otherwise busy night - any wonder with the state of things.

Different Experience. Despite all of the good reviews, our experience was very average... one meal was barely edible ( in-fact we couldn't eat it) and another had a really unusual smell and taste about it. Pad thai, which is usually a favorite, also found its way into the bin. Sorry if this is not the normal experience, but we were extremely disappointed.

Quite easily the best Thai in Brisbane! The staff are super friendly and cute little Thai girls, the food and presentation is amazing, but the flavours are like nothing you will experience at any other Thai restaurant. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Yummmm!!! Can't believe I've lived locally & never visited this place. Had the curry puffs, duck on vegies & chicken panang curry with brown rice - all of which were delish, particularly given the prices. Nice outdoor area with breeze - perfect for a summers night. Loved & will definitely return.

Red rice!!!!. We came here thanks to a 25% off entertainment book voucher and we were really impressed. First of all, they serve red rice (even though they call it brown on the menu) and I don't know of any other place in Brisbane where you can replace white rice! It's fabulous by the way, not at all boring. My meal was the spicy eggplant with minced pork...amazing flavors! My husband got their panang curry which was pretty good but a little too sweet for our liking. To each his own though on curries. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

Best Thai Going. Fantastic Flavours, Friendly Service you must try this place. Fresh Fish, fragrant curries and It's BYO.

Delicious. We had dinner here on Friday night - once in a blue moon kiddie free - very good experience.

My Pad Thai was delicious and husband v. happy with roast duck.

Reasonable prices, efficient and friendly customer service - more than happy to come back :)

Hidden Gem. There's a reason cafe de siam is a favorite with the locals, their food is just amazing! And at very reasonable prices too. I've only been once but I plan on returning when in need of a good/authentic Thai meal. With such an extensive menu, there is something for everyone, plus the chef is so experienced and helpful they can accommodate the meals to suit your specific dietary needs (veg/vegan/allergies). Can't wait to be back!!

Wonderful local Thai. Had a wonderful meal at Siam Thai last Saturday. With only two of us we ordered the fish cakes, a green chicken curry and the Demon noodles with tofu. Everything was wonderful. The curry was creamy with a lovely depth of flavour. It certainly wasn't whipped up using a standard curry paste. The Demon noodles were gobbled up pretty quickly and we ate every last bit. All for $43. We have to keep these people in business they're wonderful!

Awesome experience. My fiance and ate at Cafe de Siam on Saturday night. We had such a great time. The waitress was just lovely and very helpful with our food selection. The place was busy but we didn't have to wait long for our meals. We ordered the chicken pad thai which my partner loved as well as a red curry and the duck. So yummy and so much food we had to ask for doggy bags. Overall was a very tasty and non expensive meal. Will definitely go back.

Delicious food, prompt service and friendly staff. Thankyou!

I had to leave a review on this place as I was completely blown away at the quality.. Visiting from Sydney I'm very reluctant on trying Asian cuisine in queensland as the quality usually doesn't compare to what i can find in Sydney and at a cheaper price but this place just blew the socks off my feet! I've been to the beat voted Thai restaurant in Sydney and this place kicked them right off the top mark in my books.. And a little place it is, not done up to the nines or anything but it has a really nice feel to it, beautiful at night after a hot day.. They have blinds you can either have rolled up or down and the breeze was such a beautiful touch to the feeling of the place tonight when we went. I've uploaded photos of what we had.. All very delicious.. No msg, no gluten or dairy in most dishes and they even use some organic produce.. Everything was very fresh.. The service was quick and very friendly.. We observed at how the staff including chef were all in happy spirits and laughing.. That was good to see and also knowing that that good energy would be going into our food too..the bottle shop next door was very handy also and a much cheaper way of having a drink out.. Corckage for each was only a 1.50 .. All the dishes were very big servings and 3 dishes could very easily feed 4! The desserts were also pretty big, the black sticky rice could have fed 4 of us! When they say it comes with mango.. Expect a whole mango..that's what we got! We all left with big smiles and very full tummies! I advise people go early to mid week as it's a much nicer feel.. Not too many people.. All up.. You definitely cannot go wrong with this little place..

Very very good!. I don't really leave reviews because I am lazy, but I really feel this restaurant deserve my good review!
I loved the food there! We had a soft shell crab, vegetarian curry, and some entrees. All are extremely delicious. The service is very good too. All of the dishes on the menu can be made vegetarian which is excellent. I will definitely go back there again!

Good Thai Food. The food here is gooood (speaking from an avid Thai food fan)! Service was friendly but a little slow, probably due to it being a busy Saturday night. We started with the mixed entree and seafood tom kha, which we loved! The mains were crispy duck and soft shell crab. I forgot which sauces we ordered it with but we were really impressed with the soft shell crab. The sauce matched really well with the crab and steamed vegetables and we couldn't stop devouring it.

We honestly weren't expecting much so we were pleasantly surprised :)

Delicious; a new local favourite. When Cafe de Siam first opened, I was a little dubious about yet another Thai restaurant in the Paddington area. But Cafe de Siam has now cemented itself as my local favourite for cheap and delicious Thai food with friendly service.

The menu is really diverse and fresh and is awesome for vegetarians and vegans. Try the vegetarian salad rolls, which are plump rice paper rolls with marinated glass noodles, tofu, carrot, cabbage, mint and coriander. Their tom kha is beautiful, and at $5.90 for a massive takeaway container, I had enough soup for two meals. Another favourite is the Siam Sunset stirfry, which is a ten-spice sauce that I had with duck and crisp vegetables.

I've been averaging at least one visit a week, and I'm gradually working my way through the menu and will continue to do so :)

We’ve all been there. You might be saving for a wedding (Kirst), an overseas holiday (B and Kirst), or a new car
but regardless of what you’re saving for or how tight your budget is you still don’t want to sacrifice your social life. Enter the humble BYO restaurant – otherwise known as the socialising saviour! These are our favourite BYO joints around town, so grab a friend and a bottle of wine from home and pick your spot. Rhubarb Rhubarb , Wooloowin Fancy french cuisine and BYO can go together and Rhubarb Rhubarb is the perfect example of it! Confit duck and Creme BrĂ»lĂ©e wish some BYO champagne make for the perfect celebratory dinner or date night
you can impress without blowing your budget
you can thank us later. Sings Asian Kitchen , Rosalie Sings is quite possibly Brisbane’s worst kept secret
and in our opinion one of its best takeaway and BYO Asian restaurant. They serve up a mixed menu of Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai Food so there is plenty for everyone. Our pick? Green Cocon
Cafe de Siam is certainly different from other Thai restaurant. I would say it has its own 'personality' by trying to make Thai food 'modern' but still keeping to its true nature of keeping Thai's flavour. Makes sense? ;)
