Review Darra Takeaway - Brisbane

Karla
Given my last experience in trying to hunt down Brisbane's best Bánh mì and being severely disappointed. I decided to take matters into my own hands and head to a place I KNOW has what I seek. Darra take-away has been here for years and as you can tell from the line up it is starting to become popular with locals, but also some (like me) making the special trip because you know you are going to get what you pay for. The Bánh mì itself was devine! The bread🍞 was fresh and crispy and the selection of inclusions (pickled carrot, cucumber, mint, corrriander and meats were as traditional flavour hit as it gets. Shop only takes cash so remember to bring your coins cause these $5 baguettes of goodness won't stay a secret for too much longer.

Amazing Vietnamese roast pork roll!! Also it’s only $6.50, it is worth the drive from the Gold Coast, A must try for any one who enjoys delicious food.

I have always wondered why there were queues outside this place every time I pass this area. Now I know !!!!! The Banh Mi is out of this world. The best Banh Mi I have had in my life thus far. I have tried many but this one is the one to beat. The bread is slightly toasted, warm and soft inside, with tonnes of filling - pork or chicken - with pickled vegetables and chilli if you so desire. I have extra chilli yum. The pate & butter made it even more moreish!!! The young guy who made mine was friendly and speaks great English. I think this is a family run shop because I think his mother & father don't speak English as well. I was able to communicate with him which was a relief. Because I went back for seconds and requested fried eggs. I just felt like eggs and he was more than happy to accommodate and made my special Banh Mi. What a nice guy. He was cute too which is a bonus ;)- A hidden gem and will be back for more.

Best Bahn Mhi takeaway place ever. Consistency, efficiency and friendly service. The price is also on point. I drive here just for the Pork Ball roll. Thank you so much for providing us with deliciousness! Keep in mind, cash only though. Definitely worth the drive.

Best gravy pork rolls. So fresh and tasty. It’s the toasted warm bun that does it for me. My new once a week cheat day place lol

Definitely the best roast pork rolls in Brisbane & I've been to a few. Consistently delivers & also comes out the cheapest I've found also. Worth the drive & my go to when I'm on the southside.

There’s nothing I can say about the pork rolls that hasn’t already said by others… but I stand by them all. Pork Rolls are the best!!!!

Always a winner. Try the roast pork and gravy roll with the crackling and hot chips. Not a fan of the drink menu tho.

Phuong Tran and I love the Roast Pork here. Four minutes from home, this Takeaway Cafe is so convenient for us. PT decides on a Roast Pork Banh Mi ($5.50) and I opt for a Roast Pork Meal ($7). Delicious and prices are so affordable! Well done Guys!

Was in the area last week for the Banh Mi at Scott Road and I was craving for some Vietnamese street this morning so drove for foraging. Upon the moment that I have parked my car opposite to the train stain, the sign broad of this take-away came across my sight so gave it a go.
The first thing attracted my gaze with my first step in the store was those Pork Ball Skewers that I had at Skygate not long ago. When the friendly lady told that it is only $2.00 for one skewer, I was shocked because I paid double last time at the Skygate.
Let me tell you the secret. The pork skewer with the much cheaper price is definitely better than the expensive one. What a lesson!

Nov 09, 2016 Rating 4/5
I absolutely agree with Kan Do's review. This eatery serves varieties of snacks and the prices are cheap. The extra pork ball with the Banh Mi definitely is very impressive and gains marks on review. Comparing to the Scott Road, maybe this place is very busy due to location, they lack the sense of sincerity but still quite friendly enough.

this place is just always busy, normally we want a Bahn mi on the weekend, and if we are not going to inlala we will come here, maybe is the chili that always brings us back.

The banh mi tit here is so good. I always get the roast pork banh mi tit. For the carnivores, this place is super generous with the amount of meat they put in, it's like a 6:4 meat to vegetable ratio 🤤. The bread is always fresh and crispy and the pickled veges are crunchy but aren't pickled enough for me. The sauces and paste they put in is a little too rich for me and that's just my personal palette.

This is my Bahn mi place of choice. When ever I am hung over or just pleading insanity I choose to come here for a bit of a chomp on some quick and filling Viet pork roll. And I have heard from others who work around here that this is also their lunch time Friday treat. So what else can I say?!? Order one and taste the deliciousness

Great value takeaway place - the prices are fantastic and the food is pretty good. The banh mi here is very tasty and very cheap. Not as good as the Scotts Rd banh mi, but I really enjoyed the addition of the pork sausage balls, even though my initial reaction was that its inclusion was unusual.
The main attraction here is the price for what is quite good food.

Been going here for ages, great friendly service and good food. pros:
- Cheap, SUPER CHEAP
- Chips are great, can get sriracha or gravy for free or for a few cents depending on who serves you
- generous servings
- burgers are pretty good, reminds me of what I might make at home, very generous serving sizes, especially the chicken burger, you basically get double meat on that
cons:
- Not the cleanest place, but not dirty either, the areas food is prepared in looks clean enough
- Sometimes can have rowdy school kids, best not to go around 4pm
other:
- Chicken tends to be well-done and extremely crisp, I enjoy this but its personal preference

I have been going to this place for years the binh mi are very nice and great value for money at $4.50. (I can't believe that up until about a year ago they were only $3.50. I used to feel like I was robbing them when I ordered). The place is by no means flash but the binh mi are tops

Good place but they keep giving me the wrong order! I don't hate it but they mixing up order wrong I was disappointed. I order chicken roll but they gave me meet ball pork roll. Everything was okay.

Hidden gem. We, unexpectedly, had to try this place because the other place that we originally intended to go to was closed. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The people at the counter were very friendly and were helpful. The banh mi was perfect!! The prices will make you wonder if you were taken back in time or in a different dimension...We now make it a point to pass by on our way to Brisbane.

Banh mi!. A friend in Sydney introduced me to banh mi and today I popped into Darra Take Away to try and get that flavour hit in Brisbane. I don't eat pork so mine was a chicken roll, and while it lacked the variety of ingredients and as much sauce as the one I had at the famous Marrickville Pork Roll, it was still delicious! The total price for our two rolls, bubble tea and Pokka tea was only $11 - I said "Is that all?!" and insisted they take $15. Totally worth it.

This place was absolutely teeming with customers, mostly overweight school kids (they were ordering chips and fried crap instead of the healthier banh mi). There's a couple tables out the front to enjoy your food and next door are two Vietnamese supermarkets and a bakery, so you can buy the ingredients to try and make your own! It's easy to find, directly across from Darra train station, parking out front.

OMG this place does the most amazing pork & salad rolls. Fresh ingredients, the crunch of the cucumber mixed with the coriander, pork etc is just incredible& so so cheap. I hope they never change their rolls!
