Review Thai Emerald Restaurant - Brisbane

Elizabeth Macaulay
I’ve had enough of this place, never again. Ordered twice, I ordered the special massaman curry, it sounded delicious, “slow cooked braised beef in tamarind essence and coconut curry”. What I got instead was a bland flavourless curry, that just tasted mostly of coconut milk with the chewiest pieces of beef I’ve ever had, definitely was not slow cooked or braised in tamarind essence, very misleading. I couldn’t finish it the beef was so tough and chewy, so I gave it my partner who will eat just about anything and even he was struggling to eat the beef. If you aren’t going to slow cook braised beef than you should take it off the menu because that is false advertising. Made the mistake of trying them out again and ordered what is meant to be pad spicy stir fry, apparently stir fried in red curry paste. Could not taste any red curry paste and instead got some stir fry absolutely drenched in oil, it was so disgusting I couldn’t finish it, all the oil made me feel so sick. I ordered the roti with it as well and it was also so oily! This is not Thai food, I don’t know what this oily mess is but it’s disgusting. Stay away never again will I be ripped off by this place again.

Just found the best Thai meal I’ve had in 16 years. Absolutely delicious. Well worth a try. It’s BYO. The food is exceptional and the staff are lovely. Well done guys we will be back 😊

The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is quiet, intimate and romantic. The food is quite tasty and abundant...we often have enough to take home for the next day. It is just right for my wife and me for a dinner together.

Delicious food and willing to adjust food if required. We have a person allergic to seafood and they've never reacted to their food. Polite, quick service and always very tasty!

I've only recently discovered this gem of a restaurant and can honestly say the food is exceptionally good, the price is reasonable, portions very generous and the service very good. 5 stars from me. This is my new local Thai!!

Absolutely best Thai food in the area and friendly staff. The place is always busy and the reputation is well known in the local area. They looked after my son so well when we dined in and its our go-to Thai takeout.

The food is great and the servings are very generous, what we like is that we can order any dish and and adjust the level of spiciness to suit our individual taste.

LOVE the Chicken Panang Curry, Coconut Rice and the Massaman Curry. Not a big fan of the Beef Cashew stir fry we had. The beef was super dry and tough.

A great Thai place for take away!

Four of us, ordered banquet for 3, plus bbq duck with cashews. Was so good, food so tasty and very well served, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Definitely a fantastic experience, we will be back for more. BTW, we had a lot of leftovers which were so nicely packed up to take home.

Always excellent. The Thai Emerald has been our local Thai take-away for over 10 years and I can honestly say we've always had excellent service and food, both dine in and take away. I have never actually had better food from any of the many Thai restaurants I've been to; the Thai Emerald always does consistently enjoyable curries and stir-fries. Also good value. Definitely recommended.

I've been to Thailand and find Thai emerald to be delicious probably my favorite place to eat Thai food. Never disappointed. Coconut rice makes any of the dishes taste even better.

Average and a little pricey but overall, satisfied.. Been meaning to try this place for years so finally gave it a go. Overall, pretty average. Some dishes were very lovely ( yum duk...devine, bbq chicken for eg ), some below par ( yellow curry...hardly yellow, dim sim...pretty horrible actually ) which leads me to my average score. Because of this average score, it leads me to believe that compared to other local thai stores, prices are a little steep.
Service was fantastic but if you are taking away, order online or via phone or be prepared for a long wait (which at least means everything's cooked fresh!)
Average but satisfied.

Crap. Worst thAi food ever, don't even bother. Try thai sons instead. Their food is pricey, but fantastic! Won't waste my time here again!

Dissapointing. My husband and I are going through a phase where we're trying every single Thai Restaurant in the Redlands.

This one had been the 5th one we've tried so far and I have to say, I really expected better from the food. I'd been looking forward to trying this place as they've been around for years.

Firstly, the girls at the front counter were lovely and very well trained. No complaints there at all.

We ordered the Thai Dim Dims (fried), the Yellow Chicken Curry, the Ginger Stir Fry with chicken and the Pad Thai. All these dishes were bland. In fact, the yellow curry was not even yellow. It was white. Not even a little bit yellow. I kid you not. It tasted ok....but just ok. The stir fry didn't really taste like anything.... I would say the only thing I actually liked were the dim sims.

As I said, I was dissapointed with this place. The bland food might be someone else's cup of tea, but not ours. Sorry to say it as I hate to give a bad review

2 stars.

Consistently good. Have purchased take away from this restaurant on many occasions, we have tried numerous dishes and they are consistently good. Very fresh ingredients and authentic thai flavour with friendly service too.

Simply the best.. My partner and I have searched far and wide to find the best Thai food.

We absolutely love this restaurant, its only a small one, but they have the best customer service, the main waitress there Emma knows us, and seems to know all her customers, and is always kind and helpful, if she has time she will even stop for a little chat with you.

It's nice going to a restaurant where they know you by name, Emma must have an amazing memory to be able to remember most of her returning customers names.

We have now discovered that no Thai restaurant in Brisbane can beat Thai Emeralds Coconut rice, its simply devine!!! Another of our favourites here would be the seafood salad, my partner actually orders two as he loves it so much. Our favourite entrees would have to be the curry puffs, roti and satay skewers. We could dine on just the entrees they are that good!!

Thai Emerald actually has a cheap day as well, I think its Monday or Tuesday, you get a percentage of your total dine in bill. Another excuse for us to come here!!!
