Came here for lunch and was really impressed by their variety of dishes. On top of serving sushi, they have dim sum and fried sides and snacks as well. The aburi sushi had a really nice smoky flavour, but the sushi rice isn't seasoned with vinegar. Nevertheless, this place serves tasty sushi at a great price point and I'll be sure to return!
I go here often and it's always a nice, good value, quick and tasty option. The staff are really nice and the sushi is good. There are plenty of options and they're always quick to make anything you order from the menu.
After reading so many good reviews, No. 1 daughter & I trudged further up Sherwood Road. The shop front is on Jephson Street and around the corner from the main shopping area. From the outside this place looks very unassuming and quite honestly have driven past it hundreds of times without giving it a second thought.
As we stepped inside we were presently surprised how busy it was! Being lunchtine many local workers had settled in on the sushi train for a quick bite. Monday to Friday lunchtime all dishes are $3.30 and this is a bargain! Hot and cold dishes are on the train with it being a touch of yum cha & sushi. The chef will prepare anything you want off the menu as per usual practice. We were so blown away with the quality and great portion sizing. In the end we only ate the hot yum cha dishes off the train from Pork Buns, dumplings, Pork Char Sui & glass noodles. I will bring hubby next time and want to try more dishes on the menu. 4.5/5
Fantastic restaurant with great prices. The range is amazing and the lunch special $3.30 for any plate is great. Consistently freshly made food. Often we will go out of our way to go for lunch here. Favourite sushi place in Brisbane.
Great original sushi restaurant here for decades. Great family run business and it shows. Teriyaki chicken salad a standout. Lovely aburi. Lots of Japanese eat here. Price is great and watch for specials. Ask chef what you would like and he will make it for you. The trains on the Wall are the original locos. Arigato.
A super good restaurant!!!!!Love the food!!!!! Nice staff and the chief!!!!!! This restaurant combines the Japanese culture with Asian food, like Chinese dim sum, Chinese small dishes, Vietnam roll, sushi, udon, etc.... they are doing well!
Such a good lunch place. During lunch all of their plates are 3.30 and it's soo good! Good quality sushi with great variety. Best sushi train in Toowong
Absolutely amazing value. One of Brisbanes little hidden gems ! Seriously! I have been eating here 3 times a week lately :-) enjoy and thankyou Tokyo Express.
Having been coming here for years and will never go back. Portion sizes are great and the quality of the food never disappoints.
Being a regular at the formerly known 'Sushi Station', I was apprehensive when this place reopened their doors under a new name. The sushi is of the same high quality, however slightly smaller serves at slightly higher prices. The old train that I used to fondly watch pull the train now sits on display, replaced by a regular conveyor belt. The same wide variety is still available for order, however the train itself is now home to fewer sushi rolls, and more pieces of cake. Overall, this little shop still has its drawing points that will keep me coming back, and finally, after a few years of waiting, Eftpos is available!
Sushi fans will rejoice in Tokyo Express' selection of rolls and sides and even though they've lost the old train, it has really improved on its décor from a few years ago. The food is always tasty and fresh and well priced for the serving size. As any Japanese cuisine regular will know, soy sauce, wasabi and ginger are vital to any sushi dish and luckily Tokyo Express keeps all three in close proximity to each seat. Even though some items like the dim sims and calamari rings seem a bit out of place, they apparently appeal to more simple palates that may be flagging extras in your group. Staff are sometimes a bit overworked, but always friendly and polite. Overall, Tokyo Express is one of my favourite casual sushi joints with a cheaper price range.
Working in Toowong it isn't easy to find somewhere reasonably priced, healthy and good for lunch! Except this place! Great food, wide variety to please all pallets and really lovely staff! Definitely the place for lunch and dinner in Toowong!!!
Pretty good compared to the other sushi restaurants . Each individual plate has its own decorations which i think are pretty cute. Quiet but when filled with people has a more of a lively feel to it. My family and me always go to the "special days" to get a good bargain. Would recommend .
Hidden in a quiet corner at Toowong, Tokyo Express is a humble-looking Japanese restaurant almost buried in the suburb of Toowong, Brisbane; if you weren’t in the know or a regular at the gym above it, you would probably miss it. But with stellar reviews online, I visited Tokyo Express expecting a fresh, innovative, and value-for-money interpretation of sushi, as described by their satisfied customers.
Great quality, imaginative, great value sushi. We were regulars at the old sushi restaurant in this spot, which was always OK. Now it has been renovated and has a new menu. There's lots of variety, some really imaginative dishes and everything is executed really well. Fresh traditional sushi too. And still great value. We really love this place!
The food is lovely and the price is a surprise! I love their shallot pancake! Their salad is also very lovely, I had Sashimi salad and the sashimi is so fresh!
This amazing and authentic sushi place and experience is a rare find in Toowong. Delicious food and well priced, this family business place opened when I was a undergraduate in 2015, so it's been here for quite a while. Due to Covid19 it has been impacted but another reviewer Jay S also informed that the owner has been going through some health issues, and the hour changes reflected this. There's no lunch crowd, just dinner from 5-9pm. I have been a long time patron here of this small business and I find the staff and service great, quiet and friendly. So if you find yourself yearning for a good sushi place in these suburbs go to Tokyo on Express and support locally. Heck, make a dinner event with your loved one with this!
To the owner and team here, thank you so much for your services and your kindness to the people around you, I hope you and your health will continue to recover. Thank you from the ex-students in St Lucia!
My husband and I have been eating here for around 3 yrs. What a lovely place to enjoy Japanese food. I absolutely love it. The food is delicious and Customer service is great not mentioning the very affordable price. A little rare 💎 in Toowong. 🥰
Regular customer over the past seven years, enough said? 😆
Food and service is always amazing. They add new things onto the menu from time to time as well. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a sushi place in Toowong.
I was looking for a simple meal after a long day at work and was pleasantly surprised by the customer service here. It's a neat, little restaurant that serves a variety of Japanese dishes, and my miso soup was bursting with flavour. Thanks for the good experience!
Best sushi ever!!
I have been going here for just about 10 years and it is by far and always will be my favourite sushi place!!
Always great customer service.
Thank you for always being there!
Literally this is a good place I have ever been sushi train in Brissy. This is not really fancy, large or shiny place and I can say there are not many variety of sushi plates, but there are few clear reasons to visit again. The staff and old chef always greet with a smile, sushi and sashimi plates are always fresh ,tempura dishes are always crisp and have toasty flavour and resonable price range. Unfortunately, this place is temporary closing due to unforeseen circumstance, I hope to reopen soon.
We came on a Friday night at around 8pm. Couple things we ordered ran out. However that doesn’t change the quality of the food. Sushis were delicious. They serve quite slow as there is only one sushi chef working. We didn’t mind waiting as the environment is pretty quiet and chilled. We had dumplings, karage, edamame and 4 plates of sushi with two drinks. It only costed us 38 bucks 🫣 staff were friendly. A nice little local gem we will come back to.
