Review Pellegrini - Brisbane

Emma A
I have lived in the area for a few years and this is my favourite place to get dinner, hands down. Consistently good quality food! I've tried most of the pastas and pizzas on their menu and never been disappointed. This is an authentic family business that has maintained its quality flavour through tough times. If you are too impatient to wait or drive down and place your order, you don't deserve the great food they have to offer.

We just ordered some pizza today from Pellegrini. Have to admit it's easily some of the best pizzas we have had. The quality of their dough and toppings were amazing and well worth the price. Their staff are very friendly and so courteous. We will certainly be going here for pizza and Italian food more often now.

This is my first review of a restaurant. I should have read the reviews beforehand. This is by far the worst pizza and pasta I’ve eaten. Firstly the pizza has no tomato paste, it’s overly oily and has no flavour to it, even the base is terrible and doughy, Hardly any toppings on it either. This pizza was $31 unbelievable! The pasta was even worse. Overcooked and bland with no flavour at all for $27. I’ve seen the other reviews with the owner getting upset about the bad feedback. Instead of getting offended why don’t you take the advice and improve your business? Go visit Barolos Italian restaurant in Toowong, have a little taste of what true Italian food is like. You might find some inspiration there and change your menu before you go out of business.

Pasta was overcooked by several minutes to the point it was basically mush. Sauce was average, nothing special. The service was good and the good came out fairly quickly. The price was a bit high for average pasta. Overall I am not enticed to return because in the end it's all about the food. We are also fairly sure the chef had a cigarette out the back while we were eating which wafted through the restaurant while we were eating.

Slow service, had to stand around waiting for attention to sit at a table. The pasta was okay, not great. Pizza okay not much flavour, base too doughy. The minestrone soup was unpalatable - it tasted like tinned tomato soup with a few half cooked vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower) and raw garlic. I had 2 spoonfuls and my partner had one - we both agreed and told the owner that we did not like it and would not eat it. She argued with us and then wanted to charge us for it. We were happy enough to pay for pasta and pizza, but not minestrone. She argued with my partner again but we walked away with not paying for soup. Won't be back.

Food was very bad. Got a pizza and a lasagna. Honestly Coles frozen pizza and pasta tasted better. I hate putting bad reviews but it has to done so these people don't go out of business, because someone needs to tell them the truth. I hope this was a one off because they have so many other good reviews. If there REAL that is. I give them one star because the Place looked spotless but I saw a few cockroaches running around. "Not making that up" They seem like nice people and services was good. not perfect but good. When I walk in I saw the pizza chefs wearing chefs clothes, so I thought to myself these guys are the real deal they must put pride and love into there food. I was so wrong the pizza had bearly any topping witch is fine if you are using top quality ingredients, but that wasn't the case if you use cheap ingredients and not much of it, it really shows on a pizza, there was very little flavour honestly was shocked because the people that worked there looked very professional. Honestly frozen $3 pizza from ALDI had more flavour. The lasagna was way too sweet and under cooked with very little cheese and mince it was mainly pasta and sauce. Honestly don't understand how these people are in business. I hope they read this or at least taste there food so they understand if not get a qualified chef to help them out. I'm honestly shocked and upset at there food is so bad. From the outside it looks like there authentic and genuine about food. To honestly put out food that bad your just doing it for the money because there were so many corners cut and the prices remained high. $21 for a lasagna and $22 for a large pizza you'd expect some sort of quality too the food, but honestly even if I paid $7 for the lasagna and $9 for the pizza I'd still be disappointed and feel ripped off. I've had better school cafeteria pizza and lasagna. Absolutely shocked these people are still in business serving that quality of food. Wish I read the bad reviews before going

Okay, here we go... First of all I'd like to make a disclaimer to this review. I don't like writing negative reviews, but when I do, I leave them unbiased and honest; I also don't write bad reviews if the staff at the register asks how the experience was and provides some kind of apology accordingly - but seeing as though that was not the case, a review it will be then. I'm basing my review on competing Italian restaurants that I've been to - so before you play the "you don't know good food" card that you've sprung on to other's, then I'll quickly say yes I do know good food. I eat out quite often and try new restaurants probably more frequently than I should. Let's start off with what was positive. The gentleman who served us was a star. He was great and I'd say his customer service skills are undeniably top notch and friendly, and the soft drink was nice and cold but unfortunately for me personally that's where the positive review ends, and in fact, that's where you guys deserve the one star despite it being the minimum score anyway. The pasta? It was very well below average, the texture of the pasta was not good at all either, my friend's pasta didn't look crash hot either. It looked very close to food you'd eat out of a tin. Very mushy and just not appealing. However, the worst part about it all? The serving size was absolutely minuscule, no exaggeration (not that I would exaggerate anyway)! In terms of portion size, I could eat two servings quite comfortably, and I'm not an overly massive person either. It was legitimately the smallest meal I ever recall having at any Italian restaurant with the exception of fine dining. This was extremely disappointing and we ended up doing a McDonald's run afterwards. I'm genuinely quite annoyed that we wasted our time and money here. After reading your responses to other people's reviews telling them they are not welcome back, I'll jump the gun and let you know that there was no intention of us coming back anyway, sorry. Also, please consider the common denominator - you're getting upset at a bunch of negative reviews, especially long, well written reviews. People don't waste their time on long reviews for no reason, please spare that thought. I don't like that I had to spend time writing this review, but it really needed to be written, take from it what you will. That's all.

Overall, a fairly average experience. Although the sauce was lovely (I had the Rigatoni Pellegrini) the pasta was overcooked by at least a minute or two. The other dishes at the table were similarly overcooked. For dessert we had the tiramisu which did not have enough coffee and was therefore overly sweet. The texture of the sponge was also unpleasant as if stale sponge had been used. Serving sizes were appropriate. Prices were about $20-25 dollars for a pasta main. The service was pleasant.
