Been to this little gem several times over the years and have always loved it. Decent size servings, yummy food, friendly staff and fast service. I find it hard to believe people are rating it 1 star! My only issue is that I popped in last night for a beef massaman curry to cure my hangover, and instead of the falling apart, tender meat pieces that usually come with it, it appears that they have switched over to beef steak style cuts of meat. They weren’t tough, but it just wasn’t the same as the tender, slow cooked style chunks, which is what I was really looking forward to.
Delicious authentic thai food...lots of lovely fresh herbs and vege. Fast service, generous portions, well priced, cute setting. Love this place.

Was looking for a different thai food joint, so my friend's and I decided to go a bit further to ashgrove and try out this place. The restaurant wasn't big or fancy but it had a cosy feel to it. We were greeted by the chef and owner himself and ordered a few dishes: pad thai, thai green curry, curry puffs and thai milk tea. Will waiting for our food we discovered that the chef was a famous world class chef, having worked in several 5 star hotel all around the world. All the dishes he made were beautifully presented with flowers carved from vegetables. Definitely worth a visit!!! everything was just great and the food was truly amazing!

Thai chinpala is one of those places that has the confidence of relying purely on its food. The moment you enter, you notice the attention and care for a customers experience. You notice the chef is highly experienced and awarded, at odds with the relaxed setting. The food here is light, fresh and flavourful with careful presentation. It was out favourite beef massaman ever! So fragrant and tender. We will certainly be back.
Prawn Spring rolls are the best entree we have eaten, mains course was authentic food. The service and pricing were outstanding. It will be a regular Thai experience to share with friends.
Chinpala is the best place for Thai food in Brisbane. Sofar (maybe spelt wrong) and her husband are great hosts and cooks. Very authentic thai food. My personal favourite is the pork hock. Just found out that they are also open with lunch specials in the day. Epic!

The red duck cury is amazing, followed closely by the special Thai fried rice. For entree you can't go past the golden bags. Service is great - Sopha is always so friendly and engaging. Definitely worth going!!
Authentic Thai Food at Chinpala Kitchen. We had Mother's day lunch at Chinpala Kitchen and we had a great meal and service. I lived in Thailand and my wife is Thai so we know authentic Thai food. His food is authentic Thai not like other Thai restaurants where it is made sweet to cater to Australian tastes. My wife had Pad Thai and had never had it presented with egg batter topping and it was delicious. I had the pork noodles, which was great in fact I had it the three times I have eaten there. If want authentic Thai food head for Chinpala Kitchen.
Amazing food. The food here sensational. I was lucky enough to be brought here by a friend who frequents this restaurant and did the ordering and the food was gorgeous. Authentic thai flavours, I particularly enjoyed the green curry, the duck salad and there was a slow cooked pork dish that I forget the name of, but it was awesome!

Cutest owners & best food. I absolutely love this place, I order my lunch here whenever I can and get the Vietnamese beef rolls. It isn't on the menu but they will always make it for me and they are the best wraps I have ever had. They always remember me and will def be coming here until the day they close.
This is by far the best Thai food I've ever had. Big call? I know! I get to Thailand at least twice a year and the standard of the food here is 5 star. The detail, the obvious love. You will be warmly welcomed when you arrive nothing short of beautiful Thai hospitality. You're not going to be able to eat Thai from anywhere else! Expect it!
My boyfriend and I have recently moved to this part of Brisbane, and have tried a few different Thai takeaways. I have never been to Thailand and am not an expert on authenticity, but I know what I like and this is it! We had a green curry with chicken, beef massaman and papaya salad. It was all delicious! In a nutshell: the sauces were full of flavour without being stodgy (the beef massaman is rich with the slow-cooked beef, as it should be) the meat was good quality (breast chicken!) and tender and juicy, the veggies were fresh, varied and plentiful. The service is friendly and prompt and we will definitely go back there. Go there!

Great food, atmosphere and service. After an initial visit to Chinpala several months ago, it has become our local Thai. The food is good, fast and reasonably priced. Sofar and her family provide a wonderful and friendly atmosphere. We defiantly recommend this restaurant. Tracy
Amazing Thai! Great service, low prices!. I've been there three times in two weeks now. It's a little quiet because not so many people know about it.
The staff are lovely and welcoming and the atmosphere is just charming. I tell all my friends to eat there and now I'm telling you. Wooh!My favourites are the Pad Eew and the Special Fried rice, and of course the spring rolls and sweet chilli and the DEEP FRIED ICE CREAM.

Food used to be disgusting when it was Two Thai Cooks, now under new ownership, Chinpala is fantastic. Food is amazingly good as are the beautiful Thai staff. A little expensive but most Thai is. Eat here or get take aways regularly.
A great local in Ashgrove!. Chinpala is one of our favorite local restaurants in Ashgrove. We couldn't ask for more from a suburban Thai restaurant. Very yummy food, quick meals on quiet nights, fresh quality ingredients, and spectacular service that makes you feel like one of the family. I would definitely recommend a visit!

Excellent Thai Food!. Spotted this place while getting takeaway from The Grove across the street, and decided to give it a try. Very impressed! My Gang Keow Warn with chicken ordered medium was the best I have had! Will be getting takeaway from this place in the future! Looking to try the Pad Gratiem and Pad Grapraw on future orders!
As another reviewer said, their mild/medium/hot rating is by Thai standards, not wimpy Australian standards. The 'mild' has some heat, so If you're into really mild, sweet Thai food, then I suggest going to Siam Garden in the Gap.

Dine-in or takeaway, this place is worth a go, even if it's outside appearance is unassuming and shares a strip mall with a Pizza-Hut takeaway.

Terrific Thai!. My partner and I visited Chinpala Kitchen tonight and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Friendly and welcoming staff in unpretentious surroundings. The satay chicken skewers were delicious, with a light, delicate sauce. The chicken papaya salad was phenomenal - partner says best Thai dish he has ever eaten! We have agreed that this is going to be our new take away haunt - yum!

Finally an amazing Thai Restaurant. I visited this place on Saturday night on the insistence of my wife and her colleagues recommendation. I was VERY dubious about a decent Thai restaurant being in Brisbane, let alone the suburbs. I am spoilt for choices in Sydney, eg Spice I Am, and now living in Bris i very rarely have anything nice to say about Thai restaurants. Picture large amounts of Par fried onion, carrot, capsicum with bland pastes doused with uncracked coconut cream and the odd piece of meat. The status quo for the majority of Brisbanes Thai restaurants. If i want Thai i harvest my ingredients from my backyard/or buy from Darra and cook it myself. This place was a MAJOR SHOCK! we had a green duck curry and when it arrived i nearly cried. The spices and flavours were amazing, and i almost fell off my chair when i realised there were pea eggplants in the dish. Green Curries have to have pea eggplants for bitterness. These were the ice breaker for us with the host as i queried her about their source. Sopha was the most gorgeous host, helpful, informative and attentive, without being in your face and wanting to join the party. we had a luscious jungle curry that our friend wanted with prawns, i don't often see prawns in the jungle. Next time i will have it with pork. The other favourite of mine is the papaya salad. I had one the night before at a riverside asian (overpriced-expensive) restaurant and it was shockingly bad. No flavour and the papaya was either over ripe or had been blanched. they still charged us for it even though i couldnt eat the mess. This one however was beautifully executed, spicy Issan style, with the citrus flavours, sweetness and saltiness spot on. Another surprise was that it was served with sticky rice. How hard is sticky rice. The other expensive restaurant didn't know what i was after when i queried where the rice was. I am over the moon that finally after 6 years of living in Brisbane and eating out alot, i have found my NEW LOCAL. Just don't all crowd in, i still want to go there without booking days in advance. Try it, you will never eat Thai in another Brisbane restaurant again!
Delicious, authentic Thai in Brisbane. A friend introduced me to this place a few months ago and it's quickly become my staple place to take friends who I want to impress. Food is amazing (especially the pork hogg), ridiculously cheap for the price it is and Sopha is one of the nicest hostesses I've ever met. Cannot recommend this place highly enough for amazing Thai in Brisbane

Decent Authentic Tahi. Only been once for take-away, but the food was delicious, and the most authentic Thai we have found in a while. Happy, super friendly service. We will definitely be going again.

Excellent Thai food and friendly service behind an unassuming exterior. I had been to this tiny Thai place not long after I moved to Ashgrove in 2009, and wasn't impressed. But they've been under new management since late 2010, and I only just tried it again, and this time it was much different!
Inside is small, but with some cute decor and nice touches - plants, pictures on the walls, (probably fake) silk tablecloths, and candles, mini bamboo and napkin origami on the tables.
There appears to be only one main waitress, who is very cheerful and attentive to all the tables. There were only 3-4 tables occupied when we were there, of about 10-12 in total, so she would be very busy if the place was full. We were brought water and prawn crackers whilst we perused the menu.
We ordered the golden money bags filled with chicken, vegetables and water chestnut for entree - they were generously filled, perfectly hot and crisp, and beautifully presented with a yummy dipping sauce and a rose carved from a carrot as a garnish.
For mains, we selected Pad Thai with chicken (a good yardstick for a Thai restaurant) and one of the chef's recommended dishes, red curry of duck. The Pad Thai was again attractively presented under an egg net with chilli flakes, peanuts, bean sprouts and lemon wedge on the side, so it could be adjusted to all tastes, and was very flavourful with a good amount of sauce (can't stand it when it's too dry, but this was great) and lots of vegetables, chicken and tofu (which was perfectly cooked and not rubbery).
It was immediately evident why the chef recommended the duck curry - it was lovely and fragrant, with not too much spice (on our request), lots of tender duck pieces, a good assortment of vegetables, and an interesting surprise - lychees stuffed with pineapple! It seemed odd at first but the sweetness paired perfectly with the rich duck and spicy curry.
The servings were very generous and we took almost half of it home with us (which they were very happy for us to do). The waitress was also happy for us to sit and digest after our meal so we ended up being the last to leave. We had a chat to her afterwards and she said that she works another job during the day - obviously an extremely hard worker but still so upbeat and eager to please her customers.
They also do takeaway and even though the restaurant itself wasn't very busy there were quite a few takeaway customers throughout the evening. I will definitely be going back and don't see the need to look any further from home for a good Thai meal.
Thai food the best in Nth Brissie. Went there on Saturday night after a recommendation from a work colleague. Food was some of the best Thai I have tasted. Reasonably priced and the hostess is soooo sweet, welcoming and accomodating. Well worth the visit. We certainly will return.

Friendly and great food. We dined at Chinpala for the second time in three weeks and were not disappointed again. Lovely food, hosts and most importantly Chef! Recommendations include, Port hog, duck salad and pad Thai. If you don't like it hot ensure you make that know. Only wish is they were located on the South side of Brisbane

Last night we dined at this wonderful little restaurant and once again found the food to be 5 star!! If you love authentic, fresh, Thai cuisine, Chinpala Kitchen is a must. Wonderful, award-winning, friendly staff will leave you wanting to return, again and again.
What an amazing dinner. The pad Thai is definitely the best I have ever had since Hayman Island Oriental Restaurant....Funny that this restaurant is run by the chef from Hayman. It was so great to find outstanding Thai in Brisbane. we drove 1/2 hr and will do so again and again. This is one if those restaurants that u will definitely go back and back again for. Enjoy
Packed with flavour BEST BRISBANE. We enjoyed take-away last Thursday night and was extremely impressed with what we had. They have an online menu and we ordered in advance on our way to friends. The Pad Thai was bursting with flavours, the drunken noodles flavoursome, Massaman Curry intense and meat melted away, and the eastern style set really great. The Chicken was paked with flavour, the sticky rice great and the papaya salad a real compliment to the chef. Will definetely be back either for take away for friends or to dine in for our self.
Fantastic food, staff and night out. I have now been to the Chinpala Kitchen 4 times, each time I've been pleasantly surprised. The owner Sofar is hilarious, she provides not only amazing food but an incredible nights entertainment with her enthusiasm and passion for virtually anything. I have spend alot of time in Thailand, and I can say for a fact that the food served at the Chinpala Kitchen tastes very similar to what you would find on the streets of Thailand. The presentation is great and the flavour unbelievably good! Prices are reasonable too. Highly recommend making a night of it!
Great thai food and they don't hold back with the chilli which we love. Basic decor but don't let that put you off. The service was very friendly and the fish cakes were the best I've eating for a while. We will be back for sure.
A pleasant surprise. Wanting a cheap and quick feast, my partner and I stumbled across Chinpala Kitchen in Ashgrove.
From the outside, it looks a bit dingy and the inside is not too much better (plastic wrapped table cloths and cheap tables). However, looks can be deceiving. This place offered delicious food and top class service.
Firstly, we were warmly greeted by the hostess who was VERY friendly! We ordered "grilled Thai chicken special with sticky rice and pawpaw salad" ($20) and "pork drunken spicy noodle" ($15).
Both were prompt, delicious and decent value. The presentation was impressive; both dishes were adorned with vegetables carved in the shapes of intricate flowers.
The biggest down-side was most definitely the decor which decreased the ambiance a bit.
Overall a nice local find in Ashgrove!
What a hoot! And the food is great too...!. 21 June 2011 - My first experience with this Thai restaurant/take-away, under new management of ~7 months. The food was delicious - reflecting the owners' apparent experience managing a five-star restaurant in The Whitsunday's.
The owner was enthusiastic and a lot of fun, sharing many stories and encouraging us, in a humorous yet non-threatening way, to continue to support their business and share our experience with others. They also went out of their way to ensure my entire order was Gluten-Free.
I recommend this quaint and quirky little restaurant - for both the food and the service. The size of the venue would be ideal to book out for a dinner celebration with friends and family also; the non-gentrified, fabulously cheesy decor often seen in Asian food venues adds to the warm and intimate atmosphere.

Go! It's fabulous!. The best of Thai hospitality and food. Having travelled extensively in Asia and taste many variations of the same dish, the Duck Salad at Chinpala Kitchen is the best! Take your time. It's not a big place but they have enormous talent. Enjoy!

A good friend introduced me to this local gem in Ashgrove, where service is as warm and friendly as a long-lost relative and every dish, inexplicably abundant with aromas and authentic Thai flavour. The exterior is inconspicuous to say the least. On an average day, more people will be sitting outside than inside: they are waiting for their takeaways. It's easy, then, to see how people could be tricked into thinking the place isn't busy when in fact the loyal customers are there. Inside the lights are dimmed to a cosy low, and calm Thai music plays in the background. The furnishings and decor are a vibrant concoction of colour and texture, all very Thai. Although not a designer, someone has lovingly picked these fabrics and carefully put them together. Friendly Thai phrases are scattered on the walls, a reminder of the low-key unpretentiousness of the place. You could be in Thailand for all you knew! Excellent authentic Thai food and service. Asked for "hot" food and got it!! Very, very satisfied. Would go back any time. Decor simple, but clean and very Thai. Loved the unique idea of having Thai phrases and their English meanings on the wall.

Excellent "central" location, we often order takeaway after work, and pick it up on the way home.
Note: We haven't "eaten in", it is a bit of a "ma and pa" style restaurant (don't expect stunning decor or a fine dining location). I think out would be fun though. A good relaxed place to take the family.
