Best Thai food EVER!! Friendly service at an amazing price. Love, love, love ....... Dine in or take away, quality is just awesome. Everything I try becomes my favourite.
Tamarind Tree Thai do a delicious take away menu. We enjoyed all of our dishes. Our chicken curry included pumpkin which I loved- so tasty and our oyster beef was yummy too. I look forward to eating Tamarind Tree Thai again soon. Yum!
We ate here for the first time tonight and really enjoyed our meal. Entrees were spring rolls and fish cakes. There was nothing creative about them. They were standard fare. The fish cakes were a little rubbery but had a good flavour and were quite spicy. The mains arrived almost as soon as the entree plates were removed. The barramundi basil was delicious with a subtle but lingering chilli heat. The pad siew was delicious and had lovely wide noodles and a sweet tamarind flavour. The broccoli was cooked perfectly.
Service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant is small and only seats 12 inside. Most of their business is take-away. We were the only ones eating inside but the kitchen was going constantly. They are certainly popular with the locals.
I was previously not a big fan of Thai food, but Mrs Kan Do certainly is; and she and the now closed Thai Blue Elephant have turned me somewhat. Since its closure we've been scrambling to find a replacement. There is a paucity of really good Thai restaurants in Brisbane.
We went to Tamarind Tree Thai Restaurant (nothing like an alliterative name to suck me in) for dinner. Mrs Kan Do was immediately attracted to this small, quaint little converted takeaway shop with its cute decor.
We ordered a tom yum goong (prawns in tom yum soup), a prawn pad thai, the soft shell crab with black pepper and two small servings of coconut rice.
When the food was served I tucked in, impressed at the heat level, (we had ordered medium heat) especially with the extra chopped chilli which I had asked for. I was just about to remark how pleased I was with the heat of the food when I looked up and saw Mrs Kan Do was a little less than pleased that the food was a bit too spicy for her. Thankfully, that meant that I got the lion's share of the food, a point not lost on Mrs Kan Do whom I had to adequately compensate with enough prawns to ensure that I did not lose my head this evening.
So a note to the wary - medium heat here really means medium heat, now back to the dishes.
Despite being a little thick in consistency, the tom yum goong was an excellent dish and rates a 4. It was spicy, fresh tasting and had plenty of flavour.
The soft shell crabs were also flavourful, but a little too salty to eat on their own so rated a 3.5. The sweet and slightly wet coconut rice compensated for the saltiness of the crabs and balanced things out.
The pad thai was the least impressive of the dishes. It was a bit too sweet - a common failing that I have found at many Thai restaurants in Brisbane - although this one wasn't too bad in that regard. Some egg would have helped the dish along too. The pad thai rated a 3, which is slightly generous, but reflective of the fact that this is a restaurant where the effort to produce good food is obvious.
Freshly cooked and using flavourful ingredients, and offering large portions for reasonable prices, this is not a bad choice at all, and stands up to the competition in Brisbane (which is not much so far I'm afraid).
Overall, the rating of 3.5 is perhaps a little harsh, but it's not quite a 4.
I don't usually eat Thai, but we tried this place before going into the movies as it was the least busy place. And I was so suprised, It was amazing! If this is what every Thai tasted like, I would eat it regularly. We ordered the cashew stirfry, ginger grilled fish, stirfry veggies with peanut sauce and a coconut rice. The food had alot of flavour and tasted so fresh and clean. The food came out quick and the service was lovely, with a laid back environment. Would highly recommened this lil place of a gem.
We ordered takeaway for a first try this evening and could not be happier. The curry puffs were light and crispy, duck red curry was tasty and rich. The two highlights of the meal were the crispy salt and pepper pork (this was a revelation) and the chilli basil vegetable rice. I look forward to tasting other dishes on the menu.
Delicious! Had Duck Red Curry and Basil prawns -
Very good. Also recommend the steamed dim sim. We had the food home delivered - so we imagine it would be even better fresh from the restaurant
This tiny Thai restaurant serves the typical selection of Thai food and some specials such as Barramundi Basil stir fry. Its very cosy, only a few tables indoors and outdoors. Its located in a very busy strip with lots of other restaurants nearby (some of them with fantastic reviews). The service was ok, not particularly friendly but nothing to complain about. The starters were great, tasted well, generous portions. Very hot though (and we do love spicy food). The main meals were quite average. Large portions but just not spiced very well and so many onions in the veggies. We like onions but that was over the top, big chunks of onions and lots of them. Overall it was an ok dining experience, classic four star restaurant. Parking a bit tricky on main road if you’re lucky.
What a great little restaurant in amongst a load of new and larger restaurants. Servings were huge, prices fantastic and the flavours were great! Super fresh. The Drunken Noodles were epic. Wifey and I got the mixed entree. Each item was great, special mention for the fish cakes. Best I have had!
This place has to be one if the best Thai places i have been to. I got the pepper soft shell crab, vegies were fresh and the flavour with the crab was unbelievable, prawn crackers with a special dipping sauce they give you was too good! 100% recommend this to anyone who likes Thai food.
Red Duck Curry was absolutely delicious, so full of flavour and no skimping on any ingredients. Soft shell Black Pepper Crab was yummo, so fresh and tasty. For entrees the fried prawn crackers and chilli jam was HUGE so beware what you order - a good starter & fish cakes as an entree had the most delicious aftertaste. I ended up bringing home half of the crab and the coconut rice but that will make for a tasty lunch. Totally recommend this little restaurant, the location is lovely and service extremely good. A genuine little surprise as we are locals and have been disappointed by Thai Restaurants so often in the area, this is a "go to" now for both of us. Thanks Tamarind Tree! Jim & Julie
Absolutely delicious! Was here with a group, tried almost all the Thai curries and none disappointed, would definitely recommend.
Great value for money for two to eat. Great flavour! Great portions in the simple set!
Nice thai place. We loved the thai basil noodles! Too bad it is open only for a few hours at night.
Excellent customer service, food was amazing and quick service. Definitely returning and recommend
