Review Sushi Station - Brisbane

Lee McCormack
Terrible customer service and poor quality sushi. Dining in is better because you can at least pick out your sushi/order fresh. Most recent experience was an order through door dash - the order wasn’t ready on to time and I was missing items from my order. The cashier/manager was rude and cannot adequately communicate for someone in that position. I went back to pick up remainder of order and the sushi I was given had hardly any rice and was the smallest sushi I’ve ever seen, even though it was meant to be a ‘medium roll’. It wasn’t worth my time going back to pick it up. I’m not one to complain but it is bitterly disappointing. I will not be going back even though this is my local sushi train.

Despite the negative reviews on here, I have never had a bad experience. Yes, you probably won't receive 5 star customer service here, but the food is fresh, it's quick and easy, and affordable. The seared salmon nigiri is always a stand out for me! My partner and I have been many times and plan on coming back a lot. Support local business, these guys work so hard!

Look, I’ll start off with the service. I ordered multiple dishes and they took 30 minutes to come. After calling staff approximately 4 times, the staff were really rude to us and didn’t allow us to speak. Secondly, when we were finally served, the drinks were slammed onto the table. All in all, the food was nice but the customer service was awful. Would not recommend.

Best sushi place I’ve ever been to. They are quick, the food is incredible and always very fresh, and it’s reasonably priced. It’s our go to sushi restaurant.

Rude, dismissive, no service, not one word spoken until we were ready to pay ($65) and suddenly the owner seemed happy to talk. A chef put our sushi we ordered on the conveyer belt and didn't say a word to us, when my boyfriend asked if that was ours and we got nothing except an annoyed nod. My 3rd time going and no more chances of going back lol, and it wasn't even good quality sushi.

I used to love this place when I lived in Bulimba but since coming back as a doordash driver the staff has been nothing but rude and inconsiderate. The food is nice but you can't swear at someone for trying to make sure they have the right order.

Honestly I don’t understand why people think this place is an bad! The sushi is fine, the owner is nice, and I’ve been going there for 6 years! Maybe people should try their job if it’s so bad…

One of the best sushi shop in bulimba. I have been enjoying the food for last 3 years. If you are around and like sushi please visit the store you will definitely love the food.

we love coming here and often bring others. We travel 1.5hrs for this experience. One of the chefs is lovely and interacts with us when he is on. The others not so much. A bit more interaction with customers would be wonderful. Food is always well prepared and fresh. Prices are fantastic as well. Owners are lovely people.

No idea why the rating is terrible, when I really enjoyed my meal! Came here on a weekday for lunch as the lunch menu caught my eye. For $10, I received a big bowl of chicken katsudon on a bed of steaming white rice. The chicken was tender with egg and a generous amount of spring onions on top. The sauce from the katsu was a welcome addition which added flavour to the rice. Perfect for a cold winter day.

Great fresh and flavoursome sushi made to order. I love this sushi station and their screen order system just makes everything so easy. Orders are prepared quickly and service is prompt. Lots of vegetarian options too which I love.

Best place for sushi with affordable prices. Come here all the time and the man over sees the pay is always sooo lovely. Best place for a quick bite

My first order with this restaurant was a terrible experience. The dish was Gyudon which has always been my all time favourite Japanese dish. Every Japanese restaurant I have been to I always attempt to order Gyudon and same goes with Sushi Station East Brisbane. I ordered through Uber Eats and the dish appeared appealing from the menu photos but what I received was a huge disappointment. I paid a total of $17 for this poorly done bowl of old plain and cold rice chunks with some slightly cooked tasteless pieces of meat and onions, topped with some sesame seeds as an attempt to make the dish worth the price. If i had to pay $5 for this I wouldnt mind the quality but let me remind you, this was $12 plus $5 delivery fee. The quality of everything in it was so poor it was unpleasant to even try to finish it. In fact I had to chuck the whole thing in the bin after a few spoons. I made sure I reported it to Uber Eats. Horrendous.

We hadn't been back here for a long time, but due to poor planning, made this a convenience stop for dinner prior to a late night movie. It now has a Sushi Edo-style tablet ordering option, besides being able to take plates off the sushi train.
We took a plate off the line, which had rolls with tempura prawn inside, and salmon outside. Unfortunately, the batter on the prawn was soggy, rather than crunchy, and we could taste the oil.
The rolls with avocado inside and salmon outside fared better, but were drowning in mayonnaise sauce.
We also had a couple of salmon and avocado hand rolls. They were loosely rolled, so ingredients spilled out as you were trying to eat them, and they lacked the finesse you anticipate from a Japanese eatery, as even when first passed to us, they had rice clumps and tobiko stuck to the outside of the roll.
There was, at least, a good amount of fish with the rolls, but prices are also higher in comparison to Sushi Edo.
We wanted to give them 2.5, but Zomato won't let you do that any more. They're not quite bad enough for 2, hence the 3.

Service is very friendly and prompt. The food taste sooo good and it’s quite good to have an ordering system as often I find it awkward asking for specific sushi item. Food is super fresh too!

Awful service, tablets are so dirty I hate to order a thing for fear of all the germs I’m getting on my hands. Not much variety on the belt and far too much rice on rolls. I know it saves them money to have more rice, but you can’t even taste the fish, which is so thin anyways. It’s embarrassing for bulimba. Oxford st draws the crowd, but they could do better and not let that be an excuse.

This place is great!
Love the rice paper rolls/summer rolls.
I'm not a fan of avo and it's in everything so I just have to ask for it without and I get my sushi made fresh.
Definitely recommend

Good variety of sushi. The ordering system is great and we got our food very quickly after we ordered it. The sushi was fresh and tasted great. The staff were very friendly and service was prompt. My partner and I will always drop in here before or after a movie.
Sushiatbrisbane
excellent value for money and it's impossible to leave hungry - they do not cut on quality or quantity, this is a local haunt for us, I think it's pretty safe to say everything on the menu is excellent. I think I've been convinced now to buy a blow torch and home to try and mimic their aburi. everything is made fresh to order in front of you. this is an example of a restaurant doing things right!!

We dropped in here for a quick bite before a movie. I liked the polished wooden seats, they certainly uplifted the look of the restaurant.
The ipad ordering system here works well allowing you to see the progress of your order.
Because we ordered items rather than taking anything off the train we enjoyed our freshly made sushi items, however flavourwise we have had better and there was too much mayonnaise. There was also some inconsistency in production, with our seared salmon sushi being better seared than our seared scallop sushi.
Overall we enjoyed our meal, but this is not one of the better sushi trains out there.

Haven't been here in a while but have frequented sushi train Bulimba over the years. Have gotten food poisoning here once and 4 other people I know have as well. Would not recommend.

One of the best places for trying sushi. So tasty and fresh! Ordering on iPad makes it super easy! Will definitely visit every time I go to the cinemas.

Absolutely yummy! I especially like seafood and Sushi Station has an excellent selection of seafood to choose from! Great value for money and awesome vibe about the place. The staff were also very friendly and polite and the service was pretty quick My partner and I always eat here - can't fault it! Highly recommend for a quick lunch stop or in the mood to try a range of sushi items.

Average nigiri. Inedible takoyaki. Friendly staff. Manager and/or owner - cold and completely unconcerned that I left 2/4 takoyaki on my plate. Also unwelcoming upon arrival. He was standing at the checkout. He didn't even ask. He could see what I was eating and what I was not. He criticised a staff member about proper napkin dispenser restocking when she was standing just to my left. I don't think that's appropriate staff management. Why did I not say anything? Because I was pretty cheesed off about having such a lacklustre experience when I had been so looking forward to it - I did not want to get into it. Judging by the demeanour of the manager, I doubt he would have offered to take the takoyaki off my bill. Not interested in returning.

Have the owners changed? Just ordered my usual sushi and nothing like it use to be.. and service was near to none! Very disappointing, won't go back.

Popped in here for a quick lunch today - the venue was nice enough and the staff were pleasant. The sushi on the train was not as appealing as that at many other sushi venues here in Brisbane and was a little warmer than i would have hoped (open venue doesn't help keep seafood cool) all in all not dying to go back but nice enough.

An absolutely pleasant dinner had, with the best service received in a while! My friends and I arrived at 9pm for a late dinner and was promptly served by 2 waitresses. One took the time and effort to explain differences between the dishes without our asking, and made recommendations. Food was served promptly, tea was topped up regularly (and complimentary), and the food itself was great; we ordered a salmon rice set meal, and salmon and avo sushi, crumbed chicken and avo sushi, and a prawn and salmon sushi. Will come back again!

I enjoy this Sushi train. Although it's not the best sushi I've always had great service and they recognise me. I used to live in the area and when I felt like it, was able to walk down with my dogs and eat out the front and order from the menu. Very family friendly.

Last time I with my friend to have sushi. Actually I work in sushi shop so I expected the other shop quality high than us. But when I sat down I watched the train that Sushi looks not pretty and fresh. Tasting was ok for me. A little disappointment for the sushi shop.
Bulimba Business
Sushi Train in Oxford Street has undergone a well overdue make-over and come out the other side shiny and new looking – just in time for the new spaces across the street to open and not leave poor sushi in the shade
Yuki
This is not sushi!! Just has the same boring sushi spinning around on the train. Asked for fresh raw fish and they didn't have any. I would assume they don't stock it as it's not popular... Perhaps remove it from the menu. Disappointed.
Janella
Food is revolting. The food has no flavour, old produce or frozen and drowned in mayo. Owned by Chinese - says it all really.

Great Sushi!. Every time I go to Sushi Station Bulimba, I am definitely left satisfied! It's in the perfect location on Oxford st and the worst thing about it is that when you go and see a movie, you have to rush out to beat everyone else to a seat!
I would definitely recommend this place, it's one of my favourites for a cheap eat! The wait staff are always accommodating and you shouldn't be scared to order off the menu.
Great place!
Josh T
HATE!! Worst service and sushi in ALL of Brisbane!! How they are still in business baffles me.
Hana Orrsome
Best Sushi in Town. So the title says it all. I have never found a better sushi place in Brisbane! The service is impeccable and the staff are lovely. I love the array of meals on choice. My sister has allergies to many foods and they are always willing to take that into consideration and serve her the best food possible.

It's our favourite weekly treat :)

Fast food. Fast , easy to pick, reasonable price, don't expected fine dining Japanese restaurant , food overall is nice, we like the yakitori , hop in and hop out so quick and save time. Been there many times. Good! As usual.

Hi there , That the place i.... Hi there ,
That the place i would say is totally amazing because my kids was enjoyed
the sushi on the train..
The people work there was friendly with
fully attention .. I love it
Must try no quention at all ......

Wow. Surprised at how bad these reviews are. I come here regularly for a quick cheap meal before a movie and am always pleased. No, it's not the fanciest sushi joint around, but is it even pretending to be? The service here can be a bit abrupt, but hey, at least they're efficient and they do actually attend you.
David
Horrible. This has to be the worst sushi in Brisbane, we couldn't even finish the few plates we had. Rice is like mush and the sushi tasteless . Save your money
Ross Hage
Very disappointed, rice had a very unpleasant feel in the mouth, soggy and mushy. The salmon had been frozen and had turned to mush. The only reason it survives is its location, right next to the Balmoral cinemas. Could not finish it, had 2 plates left half of both.
Siahn Davis
In terms of inauthentic Japanese food this place takes the cake. The rice used in the sushi was more like congee. Nothing was fresh. Limited vege options. The agedashi tofu was just plain wrong; bad soup, no negi. No no no.

Refreshed and refurbished. Sushi Station at Bulimba deserves higher rating. The store has been recently renovated and I think the food and service has also improved. I found the service to be fast and friendly. The sushi is fresh and delicious, and very good standard for low cost fast food.
The managers have been in the Japanese Sushi business for over a decade and know how to deliver a great meal at a good price.
My favourite dish is Age Nasu (deep fried eggplant with Miso on rice nigiri)
Elle
Not fresh or appetizing food, dirty and NOT run or owned by Japanese.
TED C
Yesterdays food at todays prices. Everything tastes old in this place, not fresh at all.
Harry
More then 3 friends have felt sick after eating this sushi, this restraint re heats and uses old chicks rice and avo for days
Ben Chickens
Woeful. We made the mistake of walking in here, desperate for a quick eat. The cosmetic improvements haven't fixed this awful hole. Everything on the train looks past it, even the 'fresh' seafood which looks downright dangerous. Add to that the filthy floors, sputtering cooks who don't cover their mouths, and indifferent staff, half of whom barely speak English - this is definitely one to avoid!! Go to Sushi Kotobuki in East Brisbane instead, or if desperate, eat breath mints while sitting in your car for a more edifying restaurant experience.

My first review was taken down, the truth hurts I guess! I tried the new sushi train in Greenslopes last week... Amazing! Bulimba deserves better, get your act together sushi station!
David Schulz
Quick lunch here today. Good selection. I'm no sushi expert but all was tasty and seemed fresh to me. Two adults and a two year old eating for $30 - in and out in 15 mins - thumbs up from me.
Karen
The K Bird. This Sushi Station has gone from average to absolutely terrible. The food is cooked in rancid oil, the seafood is luke warm, and everything else is covered in a thick layer of mayo. Even the tea is awful. And the actual train is filthy. We will never go back, and the sooner this closes down the better.

Used to love it, now, don't bother. As a regular diner, I used to find the food fresh and delicious. However, it has really deteriorated! The food tastes (and is!) old and sub-standard. The spring rolls, wantons, dumplings, etc. are all pre-packaged frozen (containing who knows what, from who knows where). I have seen the chefs recycle the meat products into the sushi. Yesterday, I had 2 plates that were inedible with chewey meat-like products in them. I used to take my daughter all the time, but there's no way I'd let her near the place now.
Such a shame, because being located beside the cinema, it was such an easy, low-key experience.

Always very busy, always very fresh, always very good
Brendan
I've been here a few times with my girlfriend over the past few years. In that time it's gone from mediocre to disgraceful. The last two visits we ordered two items and each time only received one. The staff are so efficient that they are rude. The sushi selection is poor. The sushi rice is poor quality and as a result keeps falling apart. Finally, a few of the bowls were dirty last night, with spots of congealed mayo - gross. Obviously, last nights visit was our last !!
Sushilover
Sushilover. This is probably the worst sushi I have had. Ever.

I tried some salmon from the train and the rice was hard and stale and I thought I had chosen the freshest looking item from the very bad selection on the train.. I should have left then...but I tried ordering some freshly cooked dumplings (gyoza) which were overfried.

I had to leave, the staff were unfriendly the place was just dirty.. The wasabi/soy plates, the benches, the chairs, even the menu's had food on them.. Really, this is a prime qld dining location, shape up or shift out. I resent having had to pay for that food.
Kawaii Bubble Tea
Poorest excuse for a sushi train around. Don't even bother. Nothing is fresh. even the sushi rice is poor quality. Honestly it's TERRIBLE.
Missjestico
Don't waste a meal here!. The service is appalling, yes it is hard to get any waitress's attention at most sushi trains, but when I finally got her attention on two separate accessions and orders 2 different rolls both time... I only got 1 of what I ordered. Great way to make money don't' you think?! I would have bought two more plates last night.
There are no plastic covers over the sushi and patrons are seated at the perfect level to breath all over food.
And lets just say my friend isn't feeling 100% this morning after eating there last night.

Don't waste a nights dinner here.... there are much better places to eat on Oxford street!
TCB
If you want a frozen deep fried meal feel free to eat here. I find the food from this place uninteresting and extremely average. Don't do it man.

Check out the Teriyaki Rice or Katsu Rice bowls. Absolutely massive for $8
Satiety Society
Awful!. This is possibly the worst sushi I have ever had. This was not traditional in any way and was covered in mayonnaise. It was difficult to work out what the meals were as they came past and staff did not offer any help. I love a good sushi but this was not one of them.
Steven Dudley
Nose picking. I saw one of the Sushi chef's trying to pick a winner when I was about to walk in - HA! Caught you out buddy!!!!
Bon Appetit
Best sushi on the southside. Yes it's just a Sushi Train but the guys do it very well. Especially one sushi ninja called 'Dragon'. He normally works on the right as you walk in and his skill in sushi making has to be seen to be believed.
I've eaten in sushi reaturants over most of Brisbane and for the value for money it's hard to beat. And it's a BYO with a bottle shop a few doors up.
Keep it going guys, great sushi, as fresh as it gets.
TTFN

Awesome fresh food. Try the large Teriaki Chicken hand rolls

Sushi station has been the place my family has eaten at while living in hawthorne for the past 7 years. For one it's open late and it's always easy to get in and get out. Whether it may be take-away or eating
