Review Death Star Canteen - Brisbane

Steve Ritchie
I always wondered why this little spot had so many people hanging around outside. Where to start? The coffee is outstanding, I mean really outstanding. Then the food. We are slowly working our way through the menu but every single thing has been outstanding. You have to try the mince, best have have had anywhere! Do yourself a favour and don’t walk past the Death Star Canteen.

Love the quirky menu of this place! Fresh food, real Aussie feel to it. Their chips are the cutest and yummiest 🥰

This IS the refreshing change that Brisbane CBD has needed for quiet some time. A quirky, non-presumptuous, geeky, funky, cool, fun, hip and happening cafe which is 100% Star Wars themed. The owner is awesome, when I was speaking to him about the ranking of his cafe his wise words were ‘wow and I didn’t even have to pay someone to leave them 🤣’. The food is great and good value but it’s not five star or gourmet cuisine so don’t expect that. Loved coming here and will be back again

Worth a visit. This is a cute and quite little cafe with nice and simple star war decorations. Highlights: great food, fresh and super delicious, awesome presentation, coffee is reasonable taste and priced Notes: if you are looking for fancy star war theme cafe as a big fan, don’t expect too much. They got some cute wall hangers only. They don’t speak “star war language” of any sort.... LOL Downfalls: the ordering process is bit confusing, coffee only or food-with-coffee comes in different process, not well communicated from the sign at the front If you wanna a friendly service with plenty of eye contact and a smile, this is not the place to go, service is pretty laid back and everyone seem bit too busy to do that Also the shelves behind the counter looked a bit messy, with multiple items put together randomly, need a bit rearrange to meet the expectations.

Stopped here just because of the name of the cafe. Too funny. Best coffee ever. Busy but service was quick. Friendly staff. Just bloody awesome!

As an avid Star Wars fan, I had to stop by the Death Star Cantina. They immediately win points for the name and decor. I ordered the bircher muesli, avocado on toast and an almond milk latte. The latte arrived shortly, allowing me to enjoy the decor, a star wars lego death star, some wall stickers of storm troopers and various coffee/tea star wars parafanelia. The first sip in a new place is always a weary one. I hope it isnt bitter. I hope the shots arent burnt. I hope I don't hate it. This latte proved to be very creamy and went down very smooth. Perfect! I received the muesli and toast shortly afterwards. They are generous portions, so in hindsight I ordered a bit too much for one (oh well, extra situps later). The muesli had chunks of apple and banana and was drizzled with honey. Very delicious. The toast was awesome, but then again, avocado on sesame seed toast, why not? The server was very polite, fast and attentive. Perfect experience. I absolutely recommend the Death Stat Cantina for anyone from a guy looking for a cup of Joe to any Star Wars fan visiting the city.

Great little place, good prices and food served fast. I really dig the self service ordering coffee on entry, you can watch all the regulars show up with their own coffee mugs :)

Best coffee and service here. Ideal for Star Wars fans

My partner had the big breakfast and he loved it so much. Said the coffee was good too. I, however, thought the coffee wasn’t anything special - a bit too foamy for me. My lamb wrap was pretty good but I wish the wrap itself was warmed up. Overall good look and feel of the interior with mini comic books to keep you company

A very cool ambience (I mean Star Wars...come on?!) and first class service. Excellent breakfast prices and the mince on toast is delicious. Highly recommend.

I love this place. My Dad and I frequent here for lunch and it’s always busy and serves great food. Great balance between fancy & homemade.

I always love stopping by on my way to work. The staff are super friendly and the coffee is great 😊
I haven't had a chance to try the food yet but I'll get there one day! I love the Star Wars theme as well.

I am an expert in vegie burgers, and Death Star's vegie burger is the very best I have had in YEARS. Other menu items chosen by friends also got rave reviews. And excellent coffee. Incredibly reasonable prices are a bonus.

Amazing coffee, great vibe! Definitely worth going there for breakfast or lunch. Make sure you head there during happy hour to spin the wheel - you may get the opportunity to tell a random you love them 😉

Great coffee, friendly service and Eggs Benedict to die for. They also do a special burger of the week and some of them are just incredible. I’ve recommended Death Star Canteen to everyone I know.

Nice to find a coffee shop near Eagle St that actually has some soul. Staff are awesome. Coffee is awesome. Haloumi burger is awesome. Decor is amusing. Go there.

Had the best breakfast burger of my life at this cafe and you will never get a bad coffee there. Best collection of books to read over your lunch break you will find anywhere. Do yourself a favour and go there now. Or maybe not now since it's nighttime and they aren't open, but at least tomorrow. Definitely go there tomorrow.

Great cafe! The staff were very friendly and accommodating and let us take lots of photos for my son. The ice chocolates were a great way to beat the heat.

The staff at Death Star Cafe are always full of life and happy to brighten you day with a joke.
I love popping in for a coffee on my way to the office, it's a real pick me up.
And the food is great with lots of yummy stuff for lunch.

I risked my life savings* on this ridiculous place. I think that's worth 5 stars.

*and several other peoples... 😨

It is good though. I'm not just saying that.

Great coffee that the baristas will moodily draw pictures in for you. I asked for a fern with falling leaves, I think it turned out well.

Give Sam's eggs a go as well, the man knows his way around the kitchen.

Loved this Cafe! It is a little bit geek. The food is fantastic. I had the breakfast salad and it was awesome! The coffee was great and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

My name is Bernard, and I approve this coffee. Look at me, I’m handsome, this Cleary makes me trustworthy... in closing buy Glen’s coffee and Sams’s eggs!
This is my happy place! All boxes checked off - great coffee, AMAZING food and the staff are wickedly funny, delightfully friendly and make an atmosphere that you want to get involved in!

I had the best sanger of my life here. The Elvis. It's not on the menu, but just ask for it. The chef may also be a wizard. As a muggle though, it's hard to know? I rate the 4-Star coffee a solid 5-stars.

Just moved to the area and thought we would look for Mr Stevens. He made us take a tray. It was totally worth it as the coffee was fab - I take coconut milk in my coffee - and these guys have it! Disappointed that they didn't have Penne All'arrabiata. Maybe Jeff Vader will get it for me. Good fun.

No, I will not need a tray. I do not need a tray to kill you. I can kill you without a tray, with the power of the Force, which is strong within me. Even though I could kill you with a tray if I so wished. For I would hack at your neck with the thin bit until the blood flowed across the canteen floor.

Haven't been yet but there Facebook posts are top notch, love their signs that they do up too, this place should have a five star rating....

Been coming since they opened - great food and excellent service, never had a bad experience. Would recommend to anyone in the CBD who loves coffee

Yesterday I was waiting for my partner and decided to stop for a coffee while at it.

I ordered a long black and the white chocolate muffin they had at the display.

The long black was quite bitter although not strong, I did not enjoy much and guess if that was the coffee served at the death star it would explain the anger Darth Vader felt all the time. Would rate it a 3 out of 5.

The muffin also was not special, it was too sweet and although there were a few raspberries inside they were not enough for all the sugar that was in it. Would also rate it a 3 out of 5.

Overall their slogan "food so good you will come twice" did not apply to me as I don't feel like coming back.

Friendly barista and fast service. I didn't notice the Star Wars theme going on - though I was led in by the big sign, "This is the cafe you're looking for" - how did they read my mind?! Good coffee that went well with the breaky burger.

Called by for a quick coffee here. The service was pretty fast & friendly. I requested the coffee strong & they went out of their way to accommodate the request. I received a great flat white whilst enjoying the Star Wars themes. Let the force be with you Death Star

Extremely good coffee!! Could use with a bit more star wars decor to call it a "star wars" cafe, however great service and food looks extremely good.

11 out of 10 rating. The best sandwiches in Brisbane. The greatest service too. It is the place Ive been looking for to take all my star wars nerd friends to, so they can lord me and my taste forever till I die. Thank you staff and owners. I love you.

Theme wise I wasn't impressed, a bit of wall art and start wars shortbread biscuits. In terms of quality of the biscuits and coffee it was great 😊

Calling all Star Wars fans! You got to check this new cafe, it has a Star Wars theme, great service and good coffee. Oh $1 coffees this week if it's your first time there, I love trying new cafes especially their coffee! Do you? :)

No doubt my readers will have heard of the long awaited Death Star Canteen, which I've been waiting for since the initially planned opening, May the 4th. It was only after lunch one day that I received a text from a friend saying that it had opened. Needless to say, I popped down to get a coffee and investigate the food.
