Review Swiss Gourmet Delicatessan - Brisbane

How did I not know about this place.... The friendly staff member said she hears that a lot. I hadn't lived in the area for years and great food at a low price is much harder to find along Boundary Street but it still exists here. I've had the lasagne with side salad, both were excellent and great value. They have an awesome selection of smallgoods and a stocked sandwich bar which is hard to find nowadays. The Italian Hoagie was awesome, done with oil and vinegar as well as what the Americans would call banana peppers. The Reuben, is loaded with their home made corn beef and on fresh rye, it's legit! Really friendly service too and it's obvious that they care about the food they prepare. Must try if you're a local or visiting :)

If anybody wants exceptional fresh food then I recommend you go to this delicatessen. Wonderful friendly service very exciting delicatessen and pleasant enough to eat at their small tables. I will certainly be eating there again whenever I am at West End

Amazing food and coffee! I went there today and was pleasantly surprised with their Rueben sandwich. This is definitely the most delicious sandwich I have ever eaten in my 21 years of being alive. Great value and taste for their prices! Staff are really nice too 💓

Wow. now you no longer have to Travel south to Lygon Street in Saint Kilda Melbourne to find a quality Deli and cake shop that serves home-made cakes the way mamma used to make them. Welcome to Brisbane’s hidden Gem. They even serve home cooked Breakfast and the coffee is really nice. (I had a long black with Eggs Benedict and Salmon). I have a feeling this will become our favourite place.

Wonderful place ! Great food for eating now or taking home. Their cherry pies and Portuguese tarts and sensational, but I'd recommend everything I've eaten or drank there but the list is to long ...

I called up looking for a particular limited edition product on the market that was selling out within the first day of supply and the lovely Maria was so kind to put 2 aside for me as they had just received a second supply that day. I went in and the two men working there were super friendly and telling me about how quickly this product was selling. I was lucky I called ahead. Thank you Maria!

Thank you very much for baking my mothers 70th birthday cake. Cake was delicious. Got alot of commentary regarding the cake and was a huge success on the night.

Many thanks

The pastries here are lovely, they make the best vanilla slice I've ever eaten! They also have a wide selection of Jewish foods, which is wonderful

This place has a variety of cakes and savoury pies. I forgot what it is called but this cake was so good. It was a chocolate cake with ricotta filling. The chocolate was dense and the ricotta perfectly blended with the chocolate cake. The cake wasnt oversweetened. Would come again to try the savoury pies. Any recommendation? 😁

The Deli is always popular for breakfast and early lunch, I personally think that they're all about getting the right thing.

What to get:
Their custom made sandwiches (preferably ask for it to be toasted too, as their bread has sometimes been stale, sorry!); all the options for filling they have are very high quality, well made and well seasoned, and you have a huge variety of especial types of condiments. Definitely try something new each time you go, if at least a different type of mustard or roast vegetable.

Their desserts, most cakes, muffins and pastries are pretty good; honestly a bit expensive but they definitely help with that sweet craving.

Anything from the deli itself, they have a great selection of cold meats and it's all really good; try their chilli chicken!

What's so-so:
I personally find most of their 'ready to go' food to be very average, probably because it's made in batches rather than individually. Things like spaghetti bolognese, ready sandwiches, lasagna, etc. They're not bad, they're just very average. Can't really blame them, these are there for busy people at lunch hour.

Definitely though, the staff make this place, every worker and the owner are always very friendly to customers and they most certainly seem interested in making sure that you leave happy, it is always better when you can come back to a shop and feel welcome rather than just feel like an extra customer.

This place has been owned and operated by the same family for over thirty years. Now, that in itself says that it must be doing something right. I'd argue, they're doing many things just right!

I popped in here for a lazy Saturday brunch. I ordered the vegetarian breakfast. For under $10 ($9.90) that's got to be the cheapest full breakfast in town. I also noted the meat version of the same was only $2 more expensive. But, while the price may be cheap, it wasn't cheap on quality! The meal consisted of: two pieces of toast, 2 poached eggs, 2 hash browns, fried onions, fried tomato, baby spinach and sauteed mushrooms. Honestly, it was too much food for me to eat in one sitting. I think next time around I'll just order one of everything and even that would be plenty.

After tennis practice, my son's and I go to have breakfast here almost every Saturday. The cooked breakfasts are a favourite and they are massive. My son said this morning... 'if they closed down..I would go home and cry myself to sleep'. A little melodramatic, but you get the picture. A fantastic local family business that cares about what they do. Very popular with my wife and boys are the quesques (Portugese vanilla cakes), they are just delicious and like this place, unfussy. I have told anyone who will listen about this gem and I am back again next week.

My favourite place for breakfast.
The big breakfast is amazing only 9.95 or 12.95 with a coffee or juice and so much on the plate. The eggs are always so well cooked, never disappointed with it. Their cakes and desserts are amazing as well- the Portuguese Custard Tarts are a must and a really good selection of meats, cheeses, salads, etc

The food is okay, I found them a little on the greasy side. But I mainly go there for the sweets - especially the Portuguese tarts!! They are awesome!!

This deli is by far the best deli I have been to in brisbane. Their sweets are to die for!! Couldn't beleive that they are less then $3.00 each. Had a big breakfast with the works and it was little over $10. Will definately become a regular!!

Best sandwich bar in Brisbane. Have been coming to this place for years, and it doesn't change. Fresh ingredients, so much to choose from, lovely and quick service. I love my toasted sandwich, and these guys just kill everyone else by comparison.

Swiss Gourmet Deli - West End, Brisbane. Delicatessens are always interesting places when they are foreign-based. There is a whole array of unusual and exotic items on the shelves to look at and suss out; it is as much of a journey for the eyes as it is to find that elusive ingredient for your recipe to make back at home.

On Boundary Street, this is place is in part as example of that but in part not the full-on authentic style that can be found around. It is suffice to say that it definitely beats out any supermarket delicatessen that I have seen.
The space inside is already small enough and they cramp the space even further with fridges on the customer's side and space that is less than a supermarket aisle to stand out, look at the items and place orders. This can be really confusing but it is all part of the experience of being in a delicatessen.
There are several tables out the front for the meals being cooked here; the only pragmatic place to have any seating.

Service here is multi-lingual and often really busy, there were at least four ladies behind the counter working very hard and attentitively with all the orders being made. It is really very good to see that.

I was here on a lunch order for a person at work, but after a scan of the place (I was recaffinating) I thought to get my coffee from here. There was a cheap coffee and muffin/scone deal and I went with a scone and piccolo.

The piccolo was quite good, I like the flavour of it and everything. A decent cup of coffee for on the go.
The scone though was exceptional, they were very generous with the amount of cream that they used. It was practically coming out the sides before being pushed down OR bitten in to. The cream was really thick and tasty - obviously using a full cream variety. The actual scone part was what you would expect a scone to be, almost a very densely textured but lightly flavoured cake.

This is a place that is worth a visit and revisiting.

Wish they stay there forever!. I have seen this place for a long time, but never had any courage to step inside. My friend said he always picks up his lunch whenever he finds a chance as they are reasonably priced yet very tasty and fresh. He was absolutely right! Wish I have a similar shop in my suburb, so I can get a variety of sandwiches every day instead of traveling to boring Sxbwxy (I still like Sxxxxy though).

Best scrambled eggs ever

Go here regularly for b/f on Sat mornings if we are lucky enough to get a seat! Just love the vegetarian b/f & love the fact they serve fried onions with it. Food is basic simple & well done with quality ingredients The coffee is not bad either. Very good value for money

Great little place. Pity that it's closed on Sundays.

Quiet but really good. While everywhere else was buzzing this little spot was quiet. Was well worth taking the time to stop there though. The coffee was excellent and the deli choices delicious.

Yummy sandwiches and portugese tarts.

The Swiss Gourmet Deli is super famous for its awesome Portuguese custard tarts, at the time of report they cost about $2.80. They are absolutely delicious, a super silky thick custard with real vanilla bean seeds, the top is lovingly scorched to a golden brown forming a weird skin that I enjoy picking off and eating and the pastry is short and flaky.
