This is place is a little gem- I really like the back to basics menu. The cheeseburger is to die for and the coffee has always been excellent. I generally come here mid-week, and I've always found the staff polite. I very much like that there are options for people with tight incomes- it's nice to be in a place that's down to earth and not over run by yuppies. I'd come here more regularly if there were more options on the menu for my vegetarian partner, and I'd make it in for breakfast if it opened earlier than 8.30am, but I still think this place is a little standout winner in a city where breakfast offerings are often pretentious and overpriced.

Groove is the best value for money breakfast in Brisbane but more importantly the quality of the food is amazing... Outstanding actually. I've been going here for a few years and staff have never once been rude. It is too small for a large group but we love this place, boardgames, cosy booths, laminate tables and the souvenir spoons with your excellent coffee. The tintin pictures on the wall and gorgeous 60s decor drew us in and the food brings us back. I dream of their mushrooms on toast and once we had a gingerbread waffle with rhubarb which we all still talk about. Also single best eggs Benedict in Brisbane. Hands down.

Groove is my absolute fave cafe. The food is always great and the coffee is the best! During the week if I have a bit more time to hang out I love a good game of connect 4 with a friend or even just chilling in a booth and reading a magazine. A hidden gem that I'm almost sad to share but it's too good not to.

Annerley favourite for a cheap tasty breakfast, friendly service and good coffee. Retro interior is fun. Cash only I believe. Try the beans, they are always delicious.

Favorite place in the fringe burbs. Love this place, coffee's excellent and food is simple but delicious and very well priced, great after a hard arvo's slog through the op shops on the main drag.

Groove Cafe - Annerley, Brisbane. Both hard to miss and difficult to find, depending on which approach you take to locate it, Groove Cafe is a characteristic and low-key cafe. On the Ipswich road, it is a tiny space just on the corner of an arcade entrance. Go through that little red-painted door to get into a vintage haven. It is usually up to opinion, but in the closeness to objectivity there is little to no pretension to be found at this place. The menu is very small, mostly doing all-days breakfasts plus for lunch they have a few burgers as options. All of it is wholesome, simple fare. Plus that, there is the selection of drinks: think tea, coffee, milkshakes - each given with due care to quality and preparation. Service is lovely, and mostly done by going up to the counter and paying.

By the looks of the decor, it is obvious that they did not have a huge budget for it. However, they really make up for it with all sorts of cute and clever touches. There is a nostalgic and vintage feel with old-style posters around the place, and the seating is old style with booths not unlike 50s-style diners and seating which my dining buddy told me was exactly like what he grew up with. Plus there is a modest and eclectic selection of books and magazines to peruse including some picture books and board games for the kids in case they are bored. One last final touch is the small fish bowls perched high up between the booths.

One morning the two of us were here to support local business, and because the suburb Annerley is richly developing its own dining scene gradually. This certainly includes a number of high-quality coffee shops. Slowly but surely the residents are getting the variety. Digressing though. Going here, it was also to get a spot for breakfast after hearing a lot of glowing reviews about it. Wholesome is probably the most apt word to describe the fare, and it was tasty and filling. You do not leave here either hungry or feeling bloated.

On to the coffees, they use Blackstar as the roaster for their blend. More specifically, it is the Revolution blend. Three different origins for beans are combined into a fruity, complex mixture of flavours. Most importantly for me, with two shots in my cappuccino, it mattered that it was strong and woke me up. The flavour was definitely there, and they extracted the espresso well, plus texture the milk brilliantly. The cups they were served in were brightly coloured, adding more to the aesthetics.

For breakfast, I got an order of their sweet corn cakes. These were topped with tomato relish, sour cream and plenty of rocket. On top of that, I ordered a side of bacon. It was a feast for the eyes, well decorated with the colours of the Italian flag. Most importantly, it was also enjoyable on the tastebuds. The corn in the cake was still crunchy and had a sweet flavour with the cakes themselves managing to hold together. The bacon was really crisp, plus the combination of salsa and sour cream gave it a tangy and slightly Mexican flavour.

My dining buddy went for some pancakes. These were straightforward, and merely had some bacon with maple syrup. They were a couple of big suckers, and the amount of both the syrup and bacon was generous. It was delicious, with the fluffy pancakes acting as a sponge to soak it all up and the sweet and salty duality between the bacon and the maple syrup was present. All that was missing for the Canadian style perfection was a couple of bananas.

With all the hype heard about it, I decided I had to give their salted caramel milkshake a try. Not having really tried the flavour, or at least really knew what it was (aside from salt and caramel combined; it was the difference) my dining buddy asked the waitress as she walked by and she explained - it was essentially a way to make the flavour less sweet. Another throwback to old-style preparation, the milkshakes can come in the metallic cup or the thin glass; I struck lucky because the quantity was too big for the latter which it was meant to come in. This meant that the extra remnant came in a separate cup for my dining buddy The milkshake was how milkshakes should be- really creamy, made with good quality ice cream and whole milk. On the top was a generous amount of cream, giving it a thicker and smoother consistency. It still had the good flavour of caramel, and the sweetness was cut back a bit by the salt.

If not more for the food, it is certainly the look and aesthetics to this place that make it worth trying. In the eclectic part of town that is Annerley, this is well-placed. With a reminder of older days similar to a milk bar cafe, and prices that are reasonable - as are the portions - this should be on any breakfaster's list to visit if they can get to it.

The salted caramel milkshakes are life changing.. Popped in here by accident one day and was pleasantly surprised! The food was pretty good, but the salted caramel milkshakes? Out of this world! I'll be giving this place another try sometime soon. The opening days throw me for a loop though, seems hard to find a nice place to get a bite on a Monday in Annerley!

A great local- this cafe serves tasty food at a great price. Visiting at least once a month, I love the baked eggs or scrambled eggs with chorizo for breakfast. The coffee (black star) is a bit too bitter and strong for me, so I stick to the freshly squeezed juices instead. Great options under $15.

Beautiful brunch. Salted Caramel Milkshake was life changing, so so SO good. Had the poached chicken, avocado and cheese toasted focaccia, which was toasted beautifully and just perfect with the milkshake. Can't wait to go back and try some more on the menu. UPDATE - wow, I had a burger here the other day, the chicken, bacon and avo burger, wow, just wow.

Nailed it. One of very few places in Brisbane that do breakfast well. Food is simple, fresh, well thought out, inexpensive and most importantly delicious. Coffee is simply as good as it gets anywhere in Brisbane. None of this super milky Starbucks style generally served. As is the fresh juice-I can't understand why other places find juicing fruit so increadibly challenging that they serve up bottled crap. Combine this with water served with every order- without having to ask for it, relaxing tunes, abundant newspapers and of moat importantly friendly staff and you have one of the best places to eat in town. Shame they don't open a tad earlier or open Sundays. Those that understand breakfast won't be disappointed.

Diana. Oh the nostalgia generating from this little cafe is just mind blowing! Takes one back to the good old days when things were simple & uncomplicated, just like the retro type written menu. Old fashioned prices too & simple good food. Sitting in those little red booths what more can I say? except for the coffee which certainly packs a punch with strong, beany flavour, definately worth coming back for. Thanks Groove for the memories!

Went there for brekkie, had buttermilk pancakes which I had been craving for a good while, very impressed! So fluffy and 2 pancakes just the right amount, didn't leave hungry or too full. The ice coffee was good too. Friendly staff, will come back for the teas and savouries.

Pretty good!. Groove Cafe is a great local option, tucked away in a strip of shops on Ipswich Rd. Decor is kitschy (you will probably recognise the chairs/tables from your grandparents' house) and has a quirky feel. Meal portions are fairly small, but the prices are super low, so if you are feeling hungry I recommend you get a few extras on the side. Taste-wise, meals and coffee are both pretty good. Not the best around, but I would sooner go here than nearby Dudley St Espresso (which seems to be packed to bursting and with limited food choices).

Good Coffee. Only been for coffee but the coffee was really nice. The menu looks really well priced and promising, but because the cafe is not open on sundays I never get a chance to try the food. Once I did want to try the food on saturday I think that they were having a busy day as I was told that the coffee machine was not working and they ran out of chicken burgers? Maybe one day Ill succeed in eating at Groove Cafe. I like the 50s atmosphere and the funky decor.

Groovy. Another good coffee place in Annerley ...a few doors North of Dudley St. This one funky and friendly and not (so far) overrun with toddlers. Simple ambience belies a variety of bespoke foods, good coffee and satisfying breakfast. Papers and puzzles available. A welcome find.

Gem in the 'burbs. Everything a suburban cafe should be.
-Simple menu, with simple but delicious options for lunch or an all day breakfast.
-Excellent coffee
-Well priced
-Genuinely friendly staff
-Slightly eccentric decor to make the place interesting.
-Board games so you can beat your friends at scrabble whilst you enjoy your coffee.

The only cons are it isn't open Monday morning when I most need my caffeine fix and that one or two more menu items like a soup of the day or a salad wouldn't go astray.

Cute little place - had some fun photographing its retro details & ephemera :) Corn fritters were a light but very tasty meal, and just what I felt like. I'd class Groove Cafe as a delightful little local. And worth a drop-in if you're in the area because it really is quite cute.

Nice hole-in-the-wall style cafe. A nice little little cafe hidden away on Ipswich Rd. Has a rustic retro feel to it. Coffee's good and the food is good, for a cafe.
