This place should be more popular than it is. The branches in Sydney and Melbourne do a roaring trade. This Japanese chain is like bim bim bap but Japanese. Your dish comes to you on a 220 degree hot plate and you mix it up to cook up the meat. The meat is decent quality. The brown sauce is so tasty. If you haven't been, it's definitely worth going.

Had the classic beef. I liked it but didn’t love it. I actually found it a little bland and slightly dry. I like the whole idea of the sizzling plate. Maybe I just need to try a different dish next time - maybe something with sauce.

Our latest Sunnybank adventure led us to the very popular Pepper Lunch to check out their new menu items and they have also have some new products like Loyalty card and Keyring Promo. To start with l absolutely loved using their super easy and fun self ordering system. The whole place was actually fun especially when you see the sizzling hot teppan. Gotta love that sizzle!

I recently won a pair of Pepper Lunch keyrings and took advantage of the January offer for keyring holders. These have recently changed to different $10 deals on the 10th of each month, and January’s was for $10 single meat sizzling curries (normally $13).

We had a chicken and a beef, plus ordered a pepper salad $8.90 to accompany our mains. Ordering the specials has to be done by a staff member, and somewhere along the way my intention to have my beef curry with hot curry and wifey’s chicken curry with mild curry got mixed up. My meal came first and I didn’t realise until after I’d poured my curry over my food, so we ended up both having mild.

It’s been a while since my last Pepper Lunch experience and I enjoyed the return visit, especially now that I know you can customise the pepper level (I find the default levels too peppery). I got the large rice option (+ $1.50) on wifey’s meal so that she could share her no-pepper dish with the boy, though it turns out the normal size would’ve been sufficient.

Hopefully there will be a different dish on offer every month so I can work my way through the menu 😁

I often frequent here when I need to visit Sunnybank Plaza and I always seem to opt for the same dish - the beef pepper rice. It always comes out efficiently and fast and consistent. One downside is it is quite oily - so best to have something less fatty later. There also isn't much beef provided and I think it's really not good value for money.

I find the ordering system okay, but that is usually because I know exactly what I am ordering. I do notice some people get very confused with the ordering system and they end up blocking the front entrance as they decide which gets frustrating. I think an iPad system would be more efficient at each table, as staff ending up helping customers order in the end anyways. I also like their loyalty card system as I get something free every 4th meal instead of every 10 like most places.

PROS
- Quick service
- Flavoursome

CONS
- The ordering system (particularly for new customers) and people end up blocking the entrance
- Not much beef
- Not much value for money
- Small tables

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Pepper Lunch Saturday night for something we haven’t tried yet and so glad we did, it was fantastic. The self order tablets at the entrance of the restaurant was cool so as soon as you walk into the establishment you can order ASAP. There was quite of bit of hot plate meals to choose from and add on as well. We ordered the Kimchi beef with cheese pepper rice and the Jumbo classic beef with pepper rice. The meals were very filling and tasted amazing! Couldn’t recommend more for people walking past to try.

Pepper Lunch is always a good option to eat in Sunnybank. They offer wide range of hot plate menus and add-ons at fairly cheap price. They used self-ordering machine that made it easier for customers to customize their orders. I enjoyed eating classic beef pepper rice and beef hamburg and premium cut combo deluxe set. They gave adequate portion of beef meat and the hearty portion of rice to go with. The flavour itself was good, savoury but not too peppery. They also provide sauces in each table to add more flavours. The service was nice and the food came fast. Overall, it was a good lunch at Sunnybank.

Was tempted by the promotional sign-board standing at the front of this eatery about the menu of TRIO steaks so arranged a re-visited dinner last night. Needless to say, we ordered both of the promotional dishes with one of the Wagyu + Porterhouse + Premium cut steak and the other Wagyu + Rib Eye + Premium cut steak. We ordered additional miso soup for both dishes but one added Kim Chi and the other one added cheese. Both hot plate came very quick but we needed to quickly put all the meat pieces on the vegetables to avoid over-cooked. Steak quality is good and it was a joy to taste three different types of meat at one plate (should be four different types to us because we shared the dishes). Effect of additional cheese is good and so as the Kim Chi, where sweet corns are stuck with the cheese making a nice looking strand and the Kim Chi act as the expected hot elements. In fact, our cooking strategies are good in controlling all the steaks in med-rare, which make the steak so juicy…. Thumb-up.

Had lunch twice at this place after a six months' break. Business is keeping well. I have tried their Single meat (beef) curry Rice, Pasta with chicken and added mushrooms and also the Wild Wagyu Steak. This time we did follow their instructions to cook the dish ourselves and mixed the ingredients accordingly. The effect is marvellous. I start to realise why they can keep busy among the other competitors because their dishes provide the opportunities for the diners get involve in doing part of the preparation and have funs. In addition, dishes that they are serving is not limited to season and importantly they are always remaining hot while the diners are having their meal. Business-wide, management is very clever in saving human resources (there are only max. two staff in the kitchen and one at the front) that can cut down lots of expenses. Thumb-up!

Missed the invitation from Joe and other foodies, I could not hold my curiosity to explore this newly opened eatery. Being so close to my workplace, I had the chance to be the first customer on the day of its grand opening; however, I gave it up due to the fact that I did not want to see any chaotic circumstance that might happen and ruin my appetite. After one week of trading, I realised that it was always full house so I gave it a go for lunch yesterday and we were lucky to have a table around noon. Followed their systems to place orders on the digital device prior to occupy our table. There is a comment that the process was done through English and I wonder how the illiterates place their orders (there was no language option provided). Ordered the classic beef peeper rice with salad and a soft drink & the rice with ell and cheese + miso soup. Well, I had the similar idea of beef pepper rice at its competitor Zen Flavours, it seems that Zen Flavour serves a more generous portion. Honestly, I did not appreciate the taste of the beef rice at this eatery and I had to keep stirring the rice otherwise the hot-plate would burn the rice at the bottom very quick. The plastic cup for the salad needs to be modified because it is very hard for the dressing evenly distributed on the salad. One more thing, please make sure the soft drink (mine is Max Pepsi) is not flat from the soft drink machine (I expected that I paid $2.5 for a can instead of a flat version). Miso soup was average and the portion of the rice with eel was again not that generous and it felt a little bit filling with the cheese. Overall, CP ratio is weak and taste is average and it only deserves 3/5; however, the training and efficiency of the wait-staff are worth for extra 1/2 mark. Cheers!

One of our favourite places to go out for a meal. Ordering is simple, the food and always nice and I enjoy the complimentary sauces on the tables. The sides for the meals are also very nice. Plus, anything you don't want in the dish you can remove when ordering or add on extras

Food from @pepperlunch_aus is amazing. Simple, yet packed full of flavour. Rice with Wagyu beef. Comes sizzling on a skillet.
Added some onion rings to the side and kimchi.

The only negative is the portion size for the beef. For what you are paying, the amount is significantly small. (This was the upsized beef)

A favourite in Sunnybank! Makes me remember the family restaurants in Japan.
Always a fan of sizzling foods, especially when you can cook your steak and other ingredients the way you want it. The self ordering system is pretty good, being able to add as many ingredients as you want into your hot plate. Food comes out pretty quick, food is of decent price, place has a good atmosphere. I would commend the staff, very attentive even in a busy environment; staff would ask you if you want your dessert after your meal, etc.

My only gripe would be the small tables for 2, since a hot plate takes about half the table.

I've been waiting for Pepper Lunch to land in Brisbane for so long that the fact that it exists within half an hour of where I live is enough for me to give it a good rating. However, on two separate occasions, they did forget my egg and I did have to prompt them..  but this was also immediately rectified and I know they get very busy quickly, so being in a customer service role myself, I kind of just... understand. And also, it's just an add on egg. I've had the salmon pasta, but it tastes quite bland and unremarkable, so now I just for the classic Beef Pepper Rice and it's great every time, especially with a heaping of the brown sauce. Also wait staff have always been patient and polite despite the hungry crowd.

Absolutely love Pepper Lunch. I’ve been a number of times just to slowly go through the menu since they all look so good! The original pepper rice beef is of course always good, but the white sauce pasta is also yum! I preferred the pasta with beef rather than the salmon.

The 2 meat combo is also a favourite - steak and hamburg is our choice.

Curry rice, both sauce based and powder base are also tasty.

Not that fussed over the chicken options. Kinda meh.

The ice cream are yummy and the sizzling waffle is great for sharing!

We enjoyed our visit to Pepper Lumch at Sunnybank. It's quite a different experience. From the selfserve touch screen ordering devices, to the quirky menu options to the interactive servings, Pepper Lunch was good.
Good prices, big portion sizes. Meals are served on individual hot plates where thr meat continues cooking after it has been delivered to the table. Allowing thr consumer to cook the meat to their liking and melt the cheese into the rice.
We'll certainly be back with friends to try more options on the menu.

My new favourite at Sunnybank! had to try this for myself after seeing the queues when this place first opened. It was similar to what I had experienced at the chain in Thailand. Sizzling hot plate with perfectly cooked seasoned rice with corn and your choice of meat - what else could you ask for? Staff are friendly, warm atmosphere, DIY ordering, quick turnaround on meals.
Would definitely recommend. 👌

First time I'd been to a restaurant of this franchise, it was a very good experience. The food itself was pretty good though. I was thankful for the additional seasonings, especially for the sweet honey brown sauce thats make the food even better. The restaurant was busy though. And Kimchi beef is lit.. worth to try, highly recommended 👌🏿

Pepper lunch is a famous food chain originally started in Japan and am very happy for them to finally arrive in Brisbane!

Tried it out on the night when they did soft opening a while ago! They were flat out and two of the tables were occupied with paper works and clutters with staff working which left me feeling like you are in family owned joint rather than in international food franchise.

Menu looked good and had a staff helping out with electronic ordering system. After a bit of consideration, we opted for beef pepper rice and wild wagy steak with sweet potato chips.

While waiting for food, I learned how to eat beef pepper rice which was written and got myself ready for the moment of beef!

Food arrived promptly with beautiful sound of sizzling and couldnt contain my excitement. Cooked on sizzling plate for a bit, I digged into medium rare sliced beef. Now the seasoning is strong with kick of pepper, salt, garlic and butter. On top you can add sauce if you prefer. Meat was sliced thinly which made it nice and easy to blend with sauce and seasoning.4/5

Let down was a wild wagyu steak. It probably was one of the poor quality wagyu beef I have ever had and my partner also agreed. The trouble is that when it is advertised as 'wagyu' we automatically expect it to be soft and melt in your mouth texture. But unfortunately this wagyu was tough, chewy so was left bit disappointed especially at this price point and portion. 3/5

Sweet potato fries were nice and crunchy with soft sweet potato hiding which I liked. 4/5.

Overall, there is a room for improvement. Steak needs good meat as it is hard hide their quality with strong seasonig and sauce like pepper rice can. But I am hopeful their quality only increases over time.

I would avoid 'wagyu' here for now but will come back to try out other dishes for sure.

Welcome to Brisbane Pepper Lunch. Lucky to have you in my neighbourhood! 🤣

Japanese food enthusiasts like many of my readers and myself included would no doubt have been extremely excited to hear of the Grand Opening of Pepper Lunch, the infamous Japanese chain, which opened its first QLD store at Sunnybank just over a week ago. Perfect timing for an end of year foodie gathering with Joe K, BrisvEGustation , Just Island and The Invisible Food Critic. Arriving just past 6, there was already a queue outside, thankfully Joe had already negotiated with the manager and we could get a table after a short 20min wait.

Went there for a quick meal, never disappointed. Ordered kimchi beef pepper rice with extra cheese. Fresh ingredients, the food came really fast, service was just okay maybe because the shop was really busy. Will be coming back for another lunch.

Happy to see that pepper lunch finally opened. Have been to the Sydney outlet a couple of times and enjoyed the food.

The service was relatively attentive but I found the seating and ordering process a little confusing. You order on the touch screens and pay there too. Then you get seated. It was fairly busy so the seating was allocated to us.
I noticed another group sat down for a while only to notice later there was no table service.

We ordered the kimchi one and the seafood one. Tasted great as expected. The ice cream was rather disappointing as they ran out of black sesame and the honey crunch replacement tasted like soft serve with cornflakes and honey at the bottom. Not really worth the money.

I went to this restaurant on wednesday night. Took me 10 min for getting the table because of the queue. I ordered the signature beef pepper rice and salmon salad. The food came out quickly eventhough the restaurant was packed. The taste was great, and the service was incredible! The staffs were cheerfull and also they greeted us warmly with japanese language. Definitelly will come back again!

Last Thursday was an opportunity for a group of like-minded foodies to meet at the grand opening of Pepper Lunch at Sunnybank Plaza. Arriving at 6pm the restaurant is already full. We ask the Manageress for a table of eight (6 adults & 2 minis) and after a 20 minute wait we are all seated. The restaurant is bustling with happy hungry people and the waitresses are flat out.

We place our individual orders as the queue of diners is getting longer. My Jumbo Classic Beef Pepper Rice ($16.80) arrives first. It looks wonderful with a big serving of sliced beef and rice on a sizzling hotplate. Apart from the Salad meals all meals are served on a hotplate. Espresso&Matcha’s Classic Beef Pepper Rice ($10.90) comes next but I miss a photo op. Same meal as mine but a size down.

BrisvEGustation’s family ordered the Hamburger & Premium Steak Combo Deluxe ($15.90) and Eel Pepper Rice ($16.90). These two dishes look quite large and appetising.

RaZoRChak’s family had the Wild Wagyu Steak ($26.90) and Teriyaki Salmon ($11.90). He says for the price, the meal is quite small and that he was still hungry! The slice of salmon looks quite thin to me and appears overcooked on the hotplate.

The two families opted for ice cream while I abstained. They order the Premium Chocolate and Green Tea ice cream which is basically Vanilla ice cream with toppings. Overall, we had a good time with the meal ratings varying from 3-4/5.0! I am grateful to the pleasant Manageress who got us seated, took our meal orders and for checking on us during the evening. It was good to catch up with everyone and to meet your better halves and minis. Thank you for making the time guys!

A great taste of hot meals in the centre of Sunnybank. That sizzling sound is awesome. The most important part is Halal meals. Most of their meats supplied by HaLaL certified butchers. They also have their certificates on. Nice thing is to order from the computer system by yourself when you enter the restaurant. They have quick and nice clean service. Friendly staff helped us to take a photo for a memory. Thanks for the kind service.
