Review Wilsons Boathouse - Brisbane

Neil
This place is perfect for lunch. We didn't book for lunch but got a table for 2. Not to busy, just right. The seating inside has views across to the Bay. Very clean and the staff are dressed to suit the settings, very professional. Food and drinks matched the service and quality of food. Looked and tasted a delight, matched to the views! Menu has enough variety to satisfy any hunger! Choice of steaks is cheap to very expensive for certain tastes. Seating is comfortable and the layout is open. There is extra seating and a takeaway outside. Would definitely recommend this place for lunch, not to expensive and unbelievable food.

We dined in the restaurant. Excellent location overlooking the marina. Lovely crisp interior. Food was delicious from oysters for entree to the sandcrab linguine and seared scallop risotto (melt in your mouth). Great wine selection. Service made our night (thanks Ella!) We'll be back :)

What a beautiful place for lunch date. Delicious sashimi, Morton bug sliders, delicious fresh prawns and yummy cocktails. I choose Beach bum cocktails and passion fruit margarita. The service is great. Definitely will come back.

It is hard to understand why we didn't visit this place before after all these years in Brisbane. The lovely view sea views and coastal design set up the mood for dining. We love the restaurant's menu and like to have the Hot & Cold Seafood Platter ($99) as well. We couldn't order the seafood platter in the restaurant, so we left and sat outside for the "fish n chips". Overall the food is good, and we enjoy ourselves. I hope that they could add the Hot & Cold Seafood Platter to the restaurant menu.

Very busy place. Managed to get a picnic table in the outdoor area. It was nice and sunny with a beautiful sea view. Food is great. Fresh seafood. Cuffin is delicious 😋 will definitely be back

Location and ambience was really nice. Food was decent quality. The downside is that we were seated outside and the outdoor area was infested with roaches. While i understand it is outside and next to the water, food and pest do not mix.

Amazing food in a beautiful venue. Every meal fresh in produce, taste and presentation. Starter, main and dessert all as good as each other, put this vogue gem on your list, you won’t be disappointed.

A really nice spot with water views on 3 out of 4 sides of the venue. The food was very nice and the staff were friendly. Not the cheapest (we ran around $100+ per person for lunch with drinks), but the price seemed appropriate for the venue. Would go there again.

Had a lovely lunch on Sunday. The staff were friendly and attentive to our needs. The place looks great since it's renovation, and the food was to die for. We loved it. We'll be back

Beside a pleasant, breezy location this lunchtime experience was a disaster. My dining partners had the dried out whiting with a lemon slice. The meal looked very unappealing, with a cursory green salad.

However the fish was delightful compared to the blue swimmer crab in spicy tomato sauce. I almost sent this aged, mushy disaster back. If I had a choice, I would have ground this up and used it for call bait. However, as I guest of US. visitor I consumed it, not wanting to embarrass him by making a scene. It was as close to inedible as I could imagine.

And the service, the person who seemed in charge was channeling “Manuel” from Fawlty Towers. He dropped 3 glasses around the restaurant during lunchtime. Once the wine and food were served he utterly ignored us in favour of a table of people that clearly didn’t know any better (lucky for them). He Ignored us to such an extent that we weren’t even supplied with napkins! I stole a napkin from a cooler bucket on another table but my dining companions went without.

Inexcusably awful for a fish and chip shop but for a $50 a head meal, hideously overpriced.

Looking at the reviews from last year and earlier there were obviously a few things this restaurant needed to get right. From our experience there recently these problems have obviously been remedied. The venue has been renovated and has a great appeal, with magnificent views and a bright, airy interior. The staff offered great friendly service and the quality and flavour of the food was outstanding. The sandcrab lasagne in particular was exceptional, as was the Reef and Beef, if you are up to it! Ammar is a superb host and goes out of his way to ensure a great dining experience. Based on our visit you should disregard reviews prior to last year; things have definitely changed for the better!

We arrived on time and promptly taken to our table by the window. Service was good, we were given our menu's and then disappointment. No W.A. Lobster , which was on the menu. So, I decided to go for the Moreton Bay Bugs. They were flavourless, so I can only put it down to, perhaps they had been frozen. The oysters Kilpatrick were another disappointment. Tiny, shrivelled up oysters, hard to find amongst the bacon pieces and sauce ! The garden salad wasn't what I'd describe as a garden salad, no lettuce and mostly cubed cucumber. I can say, the whiting, battered, was very good, crispy and golden in colour and tasty. Also, no complaint about the Pan Seared Scallops. They were also very plump and tasty.Sand Crab Lasagne, strange, nothing like lasagne and not much flavour either! As for ambience, there was only music from a radio ,in the background and I can only give it a 1 for atmosphere. It was a pity that we found out what Wilson's Boathouse was like,on my birthday, and we,ll never go back there again !

I had the opportunity to revisit one of my favourite seas food restaurant just after Christmas. The Manly Boat harbour location is simply awesome, and always much activity on the waters. Great! My meals; oysters entrée, calamari and salad were fresh and delightful. Service was prompt & friendly. Also hard not to notice considerable upgrading of the restaurant under way, but the work did not impact on my dining enjoyment! Highly recommend!

We went here about 6 years ago and it was great. Wow has it changed. We went using a scoopon but had we not, the prices are ridiculously high for what you get. The place is now dingy, the toilets absolutely wreaked, there were probably 2 other tables yet our meals took over an hour to come out. They also scam you with the scoopon because the menu that you're shown at purchase and also on their website is apparently their "old menu" but they've been using this line all year. Would definitely avoid

Oh Wilson's...what has happened to you? Sadly for us, Wilson's Boathouse is not the experience it was five years ago. We used a Groupon voucher and were not only given a smaller and different menu than the normal one, but most of the dishes advertised on the Groupon deal to entice us to buy had been removed. Our main limit on the deal was $39, which is fine. But if you wanted to purchase the $49 reef and beef advertised on the Groupon deal it wasn't a case of paying the extra $10; you had to pay the full $49.

Groupon deal aside, the meals were disappointing. Their seafood chowder used to be beautiful. In fact, until today, it has been the benchmark for all other chowders. Today it was dirty dishwater with one tough overcooked prawn, one scallop, a teaspoon of fish and a few tablespoons of chopped calamari. I was left with a huge bowl of lightly seasoned flavourless milky water (photo 1). Hubby refused to eat his once the half cup of seafood was consumed.

Main was a dry spaghetti dish with 3 tough overcooked prawns, 2 scallops and sundried tomatoes - thank god, because that's the only thing that gave it any flavour. Hubby's tempura battered whiting with chips and salad was better.

Hubby also chose well with dessert - the three fat profiteroles with chocolate sauce were generous, soft and delicious. I wanted the fruit - melon balls, berries, honeycomb, brandy snap and berry coulis. Alas they had no honeycomb or brandy snap. So I had the world's smallest piece of cheesecake instead.

Service was really poor too. I am normally one to cut a restaurant some slack and go back to try again after a bad experience. But I won't be rushing back to Wilson's. I might send them a few recipes for seafood chowder though.

We had been to the boathouse a while ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Whilst we had to wait a while for our meals, they were sumptuous and delicious.

This time though, was a different story. Yes, we waited again, patiently and willingly, for we anticipated the same great food as last time. OMG the food was disappointing this time.

The entree, seafood chowder was a big bowl of milky soup with with little chunks of fish and ONE single prawn. The calamari was ok but a very small serving, Neither was worth the money.

The serving of salmon for the main was fine, but it tasted odd and terrible, and not worthy the money we paid.

My husband ordered steak. The serving was very small on a bed of mashed potatoes. but nothing else. Won't it be nice to have some vegs to make the meal complete?

We will NEVER AGAIN eat at Wilson's Boat House. They have burnt us forever! Shame, because it used to be so very good. They must have a different chef or new management?

Extremely disappointed. We purchased a Groupon voucher but it was not at all what was advertised. We have eaten here quite a while ago, also on a Groupon voucher and the service and food were excellent. Today it was deplorable! We were told that as it was a busy week more than a few items were unavailable. The voucher stated price limits but that was ok, on checking the menu Wilsons supplied on the Groupon site before purchasing the voucher, there were only a couple of meals above the cut-off price...WRONG, on arrival there were less meals on the menu provided with even less under the cut-off price and then most of those not available. When asking if we could then order a higher priced meal and pay the difference they said ok, but not the difference shown on the menu. For example, a meal with a higher difference of $3.50 meant we had to pay a difference of $10.00...doesn't make sense to me! To top it off the service was so slowwww!!! . The food was only just so so too! With our original choices all unavailable, for entree my husband had a chowder, which on a hot day had him dripping with sweat, and I had slices baguette with oil and dukkah, and for mains we had fish of the day with salad and chips. The dessert of course did not happen. With the voucher $69.00 and the 2 beers and a sparkling water another $24.00 the total cost was a joke for what we got. Frustrating considering I checked out the menu etc before purchase. After finishing our mains, the plates sat on the table for a half hour, we tried to catch the waiter’s eye to order our dessert but to no avail. We gave up, paid for our drinks and left. As we were paying we did let the waiter know we were not happy, but he didn’t appear to care at all. It must also be noted there were only 3 other tables occupied when we arrived with another 2 parties of diners arriving by the time we left, 5 tables in total. All in all, feeling very disappointed and will never go back!!!!!

I would not have been a bit surprised if Gordon Ramsay made an appearance. The wait staff made the best of a bad situation. 90 minute wait for food and then 1 order was wrong. Steak under cooked and wrong veggies. Didn't dare send it back in case we had another 90 minute wait. We actually had a laugh with another couple when their dessert ended up being served before their mains.

It appears the owner stuffed up a booking and then decided to hide out in the kitchen for the evening. Might have made allowances if the owner had perhaps made the rounds and apologized but nope, no sign and we won't be back. A bit of a disappointment for a wedding anniversary dinner.

Restaurant does not pay Staff/Contractors. The owners and managers of this Restaurant group, do not care about its loyal staff/contractors. After months of being told that we would get paid and being promised it will get fixed, we have had no choice but to make it public. If you eat at this restaurant you are supporting a business that does not pay its staff/contractors.

We have had a couple of exceptional visits to Wilson's Boathouse over the years, so thought we would take mum there as a special treat for lunch to celebrate her birthday. I booked a table several days ago and was told we would be given a front table with a fabulous view. We arrived for the beginning of the lunch sitting and were taken over to our table- which was against the wall between the large open sliding glass doors. We asked to sit at one of the tables in front of the glass doors, but were told that table was booked!!!! THE PLACE WAS EMPTY!!!! After a bit of uncomfortable conversation (as we had a booking too) we were seated at a table in front of the open window. The waited presented the 3 of us with our menu's- in mismatched folders and told us the fish of the day, then the multitude of dishes we couldn't have, because they had run out last night. You have got to be kidding me!!!! 2 of our table ordered fish of the day- Gold band snapper, and I ordered a hot/cold seafood platter, and we ordered a garlic bread for entree. Quite a while later our garlic bread came out- burnt on the edges. It was nearly an hour from ordering to receiving our main meals. There was 2 other tables dining by then, but notably- not anywhere around us- where the other table was supposedly booked! $36 fish of the day consisted of 1/2 fillet each for mum and hubby- obviously 1/2 of the SAME fillet each, and it was overcooked. The hot part of my seafood platter was lovely, as were the 3 prawns. The 2 bug tails and 1/2 sandcrab however, had been frozen- despite us being told they were fresh!!!! We are fishos. We catch and dine on sandcrab regularly. We know frozen shellfish. It is watery, mushy and powdery. The 2 bugtails were soooo devoid of meat that there was no way they were fresh. I questioned the waiter and he insisted they were fresh. I couldnt eat them. The bill came out and there was no offer of discount. So I paid $52 for very little. Not going back there again. Very disappointed.

Wow. What can I say? I would never go back here, nor recommend it to anyone. Ridiculously expensive, poor (and somewhat bizarre) service, a 45 minute wait for food and no apology, with less than 10 customers in the entire restaurant. It seems they had to go out and catch the fish, harvest the iceberg lettuce and 2 tomatoes from the farm. The food was nothing special, massively overpriced, and the menu was extremely minimal, especially after the waiter listed off the many dishes they didn't have today. Don't expect to find anything to eat if you're vegetarian or have dietary requirements.

9 of us dined here recently with a Groupon deal. The place was quite busy, with other coupon diners which I think ensured that the seafood served was fresh. Outside of these deals, I doubt they have the patronage to ensure quality product all of the time. The deal made the food great value, but I would never pay full price. $19 for an entree of a couple of pieces of calamari and iceberg lettuce is very ridiculous! The service is horrendous! Dropping dishes, pushing past diners, servers shouting and arguing with each other. The joke of the night was it was just like Fawlty Towers. Noisy, echoey dining area that is darkened not for mood but to hide the less-than-up to date and unclean decor. The outside of the restaurant is littered with disused kitchen equipment and has a strong smell of gas. Apparently Angela Jolie was taken here for lunch when she was filming in Moreton Bay - that is cringe worthy! Whoever's job it was to choose the lunch location dropped the ball on that one!

I have loved Wilson's boat house since 2015, and sadly the food has become worst every time I go. The second last time was there I ordered the cold seafood platter and the prawns and bugs are so soggy and soft, very un fresh. And also their Caesar salad was only chopped up lettuce and olive oil! Asked for the reason and was give the excuse of "this is how our chef cooks it" so I ordered a garden salad instead and it just tastes like soap, yes soap!
I have went there yesterday, the fish soup smells wrong and very salty and a burnt steak.
But the creme brûlée was nice though.

Went to this restaurant with my family thinking of giving my husband a treat. Just before we place order, we got the kids to wash their hands. When the kids got back to the table, one of the staff came up to us to tell us off that the kids were making too much noise walking back and that it was annoying other customers. We arrived at the restaurant just before the kitchen started, which was 5.55pm. So at 6pm, there was only 2 other tables. So obviously we didn't have a great evening to start with. Our first entree reached our table after 1 hour wait, at 7pm. To make things worse, we ordered 2 portions of Spaghetti Marinara, one for me and another for the kids. Also while ordering, we specifically told them to not have chilli in one of it as it was for the kids. When the spaghetti was served at 8pm, (after another hour of wait), I was told that my plate for the very spicy pasta and the kids' plate was without the chilli. Poor kids had to eat the spicy pasta and when they couldn't take it, they complained to me saying that its spicy. We then told the staff about the incident. They took the plate away and came back with it saying that there wasn't any problem with the order and it was serve wrongly. They didn't bother correcting the situation and just left the plate one the table. The kids obviously upset about it, as they waited so long for their food and it came out spicy. I then took the initiative to talk to the restaurant manager, and his attitude was worst than his staff, passing to me as rude. We explained what had happened, and he had the guts to me tell that I should have tasted the kids' food before giving it to my kids. Mind you, the staff served us the food. Its so sad how the evening ended. The food was not great at all and it took more than 2 hours for a 3 course meal. Very very sad. I will not recommend this restaurant at all.

This was our second time here in as many years. First time around we thought we had a bad night of luck. Now reading the reviews I see otherwise.

Firstly the food is generous in sizing. But it is VERY over priced and I found the Fish lacking in flavor, even for Snapper. Oysters were very nice but at $23 for 6 Kilpatrick it would also be the most expensive I've ever had. To their credit they were delicious, but not worth $23.
Creme Brulee was average.

That is about as positive as I can be with everything. Everything else is down hill.

Walk in the door you're greeted with the foul smell of Urine from the toilets. No locks on the doors or seats on the Toilets.
Two wait staff, neither have been trained and its shows. Tables weren't cleared until they needed to be. Weren't offered water and had to ask mid way through meals for drinks. Waiting times on meals weren't the greatest but we overheard there was only 1 chef on. The whole night took 2 hours from walking in to when we left. As soon as dessert was finished we left. And we ordered all three straight away. Our average dining time is an hour.

Staff weren't rude but spoke inappropriately, no manners and didn't focus. No multitasking to any respect. Could bring a glass of water to you and then serve someone. Instead they would go and get it, head back to the kitchen window, talk for a few minutes then address another task.

The restaurant itself was clean but in need of updating. being sparse and empty made the room look and feel cold. back ground music was more off putting due to what was being played. Some small furnishings could really liven the place up.

Great meal, after reading the reviews I was a bit nervous, venue is a large open space, good for functions or otherwise and could maybe be improved, but table layout and view was great.
Food was fresh and well prepared, fish literally arrived through door as we sat down, was a moment when the waiter was unsure if it was available, but then very soon said it had just arrived.
Service friendly and prompt, food delivery timely, quality good. Entrée soup maybe a tad salty, nothing terrible though.
Was able to vary menu with no issue (try the snapper beer battered!)
Deserts great, creme brûlée a hit, nice and crunchy and fresh, chocolate tart to die for (made in house)
All in all a pleasant night.
Emc
Pretty good food large portions which is always good! Just strange staff which were awkward and made myself and my guests uncomfortable. Really no sense of how to give good or appropriate service. The staff really need some training. Music playing was really old and didn't set the right vibe for what could be a great place
Don Black
Never a good experience. Have been there four times now over last eight years, hoping it will be better. Tonight walked in and greeted with rancid acid smell. Food mostly ok. Can hear other tables conversation- some background music would fix this.
Pm leaving and paying bill, sewerage smell from toilets. What a dissapointment.
What a great location- we came from Tide @ Gunn Jetty and that was pumping with music & people. Wilsons needs to update and get with it. Wilsons is tired, dirty & outdated. Such a shame. We want our local eateries to be better.
Renee Mac
Had a meal here Friday night and all I can say is the food is Yummy!!! 3 courses on a living Social Voucher...The Food was amazing great service. The only thing I will say is it's outdated and in need of a ReVamp but other than that it's a thumbs up!!!!

Always wanted to go to this restaurant so Mothers Day seemed a good excuse. Staff were unfriendly, untrained and unprofessional. Table and linen were dirty and needed to be replaced when we were seated. We even had to ask for cutlery for one setting. The drink order was wrong, the meals very over priced and extremely average. My main was prawns served on store brought mayonnaise with soggy tomato and 2 day old lettice (paid $24.95 for that. I had an entree for main). My mother ordered barra and it arrived on a pile of mashed potato with two wilted stalks of asparagus . That was it for $36. My 12 year old could have presented the meals better. Talk about slap everything on a plate. Disappointing is an understatement. The only good thing was the location - on beautiful Manly harbour. What potential this restaurant has.
Carly
Fawlty Towers is a very apt description. Bizarre service on so many levels. The food was okay, but very expensive. Lunch for four with no entrees cost $280. I would not recommend this place at all, which is unfortunate considering the beautiful location and view.
Carla J Wall
Arrived in the restaurant, not greeted too well. Staff seem throughly fed up.

Food very average - fish slapped on a plate with a poor side salad consisting of chopped cos lettuce, quartered tomato and cucumber slices. Overpriced, disappointed. Feels like they cannot be bothered with the food and interior.

Will not be going again.
Tony Cocciolone
First time the group I was with had been their. Will not go back again.
Two members at our table got their meals first and were long finished before anyone else at the table received theirs.
When rest of the meals eventually arrived, after asking a few times, one of the meals was wrong. Even after the waiter had gone through the meals twice to check he had written them down correctly.
Then the serving staff had the hid to say no this is what you ordered. We told them to check the docket. When they took back the meal and bought it back again. It was the same meal with the chips added. The did not change the piece of meat to the one ordered.
By this time we had given up. The service and attitude was so poor. The food was okay but over priced. Our group of 12 will never return and will definitely tell others to avoid this place.
Wolfyd_2000
Previously very good but sadly lacking at the last visit. The waiters were dreadful having to ask for water top up and cutlery
The food was lacklustre especially for the price
The maĂźtre'd was miserable and the place seems forgotten
Probably not go back

Disappointed! Not what I anticipated mediocre platter with rotten oysters to top it off, hurry up and go broke so someone with some nouse can revive this wonderful location and restore it's reputation.
Food For Thought!
My family and I were caught out big time at Wilsons Boathouse at Manly recently! My mother had bought some coupons through Groupon for my brothers and my birthdays as well as for Fathers Day .... a combo deal she thought we would absolutely love. She paid $199 for six people (supposed to be up to $594 value) and my brother's girlfriend also purchased an additional deal for two for $89 for herself and her ten year old. So, a total of $288 for seven people and supposed to be at least $700 worth of value. We realised something was wrong very early on when we were given conflicting information on how to order for our coupon deals. To play it safe (and not get hit with a big bill as we left) my husband and I shared a seafood platter, we ordered no entrees (even though it was supposed to be three courses) and we just ordered desserts. The seafood platter was pretty good, but all desserts were straight out of the fridge! Creme brûlée was too cold and the profiteroles were hard and cold. We also ordered three beers and one glass of wine for the whole table .... and my mum was presented with a bill of $130 at the end ... so a grand total of $418 (including coupons) for a very small amount of food and a couple of drinks. The receipt mad absolutely no sense whatsoever and the Manager, who had been treating us in a very bored fashion right through the night (we realised he wasn't going to give good service to coupon people) ... wasn't in a mood to explain the reasoning re the bill. Decor was incredibly dated ... no atmosphere whatsoever! I would not recommend this place to anyone EVER and I would suggest to anyone thinking of buying coupons for restaurants to make sure to be very careful. My mother, who is a pensioner, could not afford to pay this amount for any restaurant. She thought she was getting a good deal, but she will never buy this type of coupon again. We were all left with a very bad taste in our mouths!
Kat
This was our first and last visit to this restaurant!

They advertised a deal on living Social for $60 . The deal was for a hot and cold seafood platter valued at $130. I thought buying the voucher would be a good way to try this restaurant to see if it could end up becoming a regular dining spot as we only live down the road.

The first time I called to make a reservation I was told they weren't taking voucher reservations and to try another day. I tried again a couple weeks later and was then granted a reservation.

The look of the restaurant was lacklustre; basic wooden tables and seats (very uncomfortable by the way). The spaces between the wooden floor boards were shocking, I was dressed nicely wearing stiletto heels and my heels kept getting stuck in the floor as I ate. I've never experienced that even at a cheap pub, Absolutely unacceptable!

The platter looked very nice, but looks were deceiving! They don't use fresh seafood. The Butterflied crumbed fish had been frozen in a preservative you could taste which was the same for the battered deep fried prawns and pepper calamari. Considering this is a waterfront restaurant they especially shouldn't serve frozen seafood! The cold prawns were okay but not excellent. The Moreton Bay bugs were fresh and tasty. The cold sand crab was very full and tasty.

Where they failed the most was the natural oysters. The first two were not fresh and borderline edible. The second two were completely rotten and had a horrible stench! My partner used to work at an oyster wholesaler so he knows good from bad and these would have made us sick if we had eaten them.

At the end of dinner we told the waitstaff that the food was okay except for the rotten oysters.

We asked for our bill and waited for about fifteen minutes but no bill was brought to us. We walked up to the bar and asked again but was told by the girl at the bar that wasn't her job and she couldn't help us. I asked a third time for our bill and was escorted to the front to pay.

We didn't received an apology or acknowledgement from the owner about the rotten oysters even though he took our payment from us as we left.

If we had gone to this restaurant and ordered the same meal for $130 we would have been furious! It wasn't even worth $60.

A restaurant trying to sell itself as fine dining needs to have fresh seafood that hasn't been frozen and absolutely not serve rotten oysters!

Very disappointed, I really can't understand how the place stays in business!
The Invisible Food Critic
Only been here a couple of times, but can only say that besides the atmosphere and the calming/ relaxing views, there's nothing more to it. Once upon a time the seafood was quite fresh and I enjoyed it, but I think things has changed since last time I went. A few trustworthy friends had recently been there and were all disappointed with the food quality (hot food only), hence from past experience and my friends' recent reviews, I can only rate it 2.5/5... I hope the seafood is still fresh.

Had dinner at this place twice by voucher. May be each time with different management but it seems that new management does not improve at all. I was lucky to have the spectacular seafood platter on the first go which I would not order because of the over-price. However, we had just the a la carte on the second visit where foods were so so, wait staff were ok but the manager (maybe the owner) looked too serious and not quite friendly at all. He even chased us to the entrance when we were leaving the restaurant and asked for the voucher. Indeed, we already handed over to the waitress who served us after we sat down. What an awful mistake without apologies!

We had lunch here a few days ago seriously overpriced Whiting chips and salad $30. The whiting had more bones than fish iceberg lettuce cut in big chunks 2 pieces if tomato 2 pieces of cucumber and a heap of red onion the chips made up over half of the meal. When will Brisbane Pubs and Restaurants pick up the pace sick of paying for below average food.

High-end. They are not exceptional, but they are high end. That's in their delivery. If you truly are after seafood they are greatly fair in there prices. I've been here 3 times to date and will not hesitate to go again for a unique meal

WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!. Very disappointed! Poor services, overpriced and so so quality meals!

Apart from when our order was taken, drinks and meals served, no other attentions given to us by staff. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but we had to wait more than 1 hour for the single entrĂ©e, and another 30mins for the main courses.
So one would say, the services were terrible and none existent.

As for the meals, they were just so so and over priced. One dish was the steak and seafood. The steak was cooked rare as asked but very tough and chewy, prawns were dry and tasteless, the Morton bay bug was the same. All in all, the best part of the meal was the chips!

The salmon with gnocchi dish was very disappointing. The salmon’s skin wasn’t crispy and the salmon itself was very bland, and the gnocchi was tough & chewy as well.

The last meal was the hot and cold fisherman platter, I’d say a local fish and chip shop would give you a better quality meal even though it comes wrapped in paper!

My advice and recommendation is do not waist you time and money at the Wilson’s Boat house!
Natalie.ivory
Beyond terrible. If this were a pay what you think resturant it would be lucky to get $12!
We clearly advised 2 adults & 2 children were sharing the $52 hot & cold platter. This arrived with literally 20 chips, 4 prawns, 1 sml bug, 1 oyster, 4 bite sized pieces of calamari and 2 pieces of tiny whiting.....the freshness of the seafood was also questionable.
Upon ordering extra chips the waitress asked if we were told it was a platter for 1, which we advised we weren't, this was not followed up on with the exception of a second platter, at $52 bring offered. The extra chips arrived.....literally a small sized cup....with average jarred mayo....for $8! Top it off with average decor in desperate need of renovations! Would never ever return.

Waste of time and money. From the moment we arrived, we felt unwelcomed. Most likely it was the result of having purchased a Groupon for 6 people. Waitresses were attentive only to the tables that were paying full price, but we on the other hand were made to feel like second class citizens. Even a request for drinks seemed like too much effort for them. We waited 1 hour and 30 minutes for our main meals and when it came time to order dessert only 3 of the 6 options listed were available. If we had pay full price for our meals we would have been left feeling even more disappointed, the quality of the meals do not equal the expensive prices charged. The place does have nice views and would have some potential if it was managed correctly and customers were properly attended to. Also the price they charge for the meals does not reflect the service, quality and standards that you would expect of such an establishment. Important: avoid the bathrooms - they are disgusting, doors don't lock and the toilets don't flush. So, so disappointed I organised a lovely family lunch that was ruined by the experience this restaurant provided.

A very nice surprise!. I have been past this restaurant a few times and thought what a shame it looked so run down when it is in such an aweseome position. My husband and I went there tonight though, we thought we'd give it a try with a voucher. We were very pleasantly surprised. The bread with oil and dukkah was delicious. Our seafood platter was really great, and we followed it up wth a cheese plate and this was awesome too. The young woman who served us was lovely and the service was very quick.
Our only suggestions were that I wished I had seen the menu before our food came as I would have like to order a salad, and my husband was wishing they had a larger range of gourmet beers.
Well worth a visit?

Confused staff. Service was slow waited 1/2 hour for entrée 1 1/2 hours for main total 2 hours waiting - hard to get a drink waiter got cranky place needs a good clean up toilets (old) need to be refurbished and cleaned food too expensive for what it is staff are confused have been here many times before and always was great but we will not be going back again very disappointed

Better than expected. We'd read some pretty negative reviews but because we were given a voucher as a gift, we decided we'd go anyway and leave if the food wasn't good. Glad we went as the seafood platter was very tasty and all the seafood appeared to be fresh, not frozen. The warm bread and dukkah was particularly nice. Despite what other reviewers have reported in the past, we were well looked after with water and drinks, and our meal was delivered very promptly. The restaurant itself is a little run down but we were told by the waiter that it is soon to be refurbished. The location is very pleasant and even without air conditioning on a 35 degree day there was a pleasant breeze through the large open doors along the waterfront.

Platter. The seafood was lovely, fresh, delicious and well presented.

Best Mediterranean cuisine in Brisbane!. What a superb meal! Fresh seafood cooked to perfection, excellent service and a wonderful location! Do yourselves a favour and have a meal at Wilsons boathouse!!!!

Nice food. I have been twice and both times the Neptune platters have been well presented. The second time around some of our chips were still quite frozen when we bit in to them. I have only ever had those platters with groupon but I did really enjoy the meal. Pity they don't do more specials. The owner was a bit up himself but the waitress was lovely.

Omg. After reading all these bad reviews I have decided not to go. What a shame.

Greatest experience. So we went in for lunch, a table of 6, got 2 Fishermans platters, 2 beef tenderloins and 2 Spegetti Maranaras and we All thought the meals were Outstanding and served moderately fast for a busy lunch service, and to top it all off was the View, a 10 out of 10 view by the water, boats, good vibe, wie'll definitely be dining in again soon :)

Poor. A party of 6 using a voucher. No salmon available to start with. ordered what would have been a $36 main really unimpressed.Fish of the day with chips and salad, could have been a meal from a fish shop down the road for $15. Dessert - 5 ordered chocolate tart 1 creme brulee. waiter came back said on has enough for 4 choc tart so anotjer creme brulee. I can only guess they had 2 pieces and cut them in half because at $14 each the piece should be bigger than less than 2cm at widest part!!. pretty disgusted in service. Waiter filled water glass pour a good lug on table and just walked away. 1 x older man as waiter did everything. wish I read reviews before going. A big miss!

Awesome atmosphere!. I enjoyed my seafood platter, the prawns were huge and my kids enjoyed their fish 'n' chips! The white wine on offer was a lovely match. It's an awesome setting, although tables by the windows would be the best if you had a choice! It appears to be a genuine, local family run business which makes it all so much nicer to take our custom to! Thanks to the staff for making us feel welcome.

We had a lovely three course meal on Friday night and used a Living Social voucher which made it very affordable. The food was delicious and the service was good too. Very enjoyable.

Worst dining experience we've had. We recently went to Wilson's Boathouse restaurant at Manly for a double birthday celebration. My wife and I can honestly say that it was the least impressive restaurant experience we have both ever had.
They had an excuse for it, but the service was very poor for a 'fine-dining' restaurant. There was literally one poor staff member who was waiting every table himself, as well as working the bar and handling guests on arrival and departure—except for the young, sheepish-looking cook/kitchenhand who delivered our meals (though not his fault of course).
The quality of the ingredients was ridiculous. We are 99% sure the 'dukkah' was the same Moroccan seasoning that we have in a jar in our pantry. The gnocchi that accompanied the (overcooked) salmon was out of a packet and never touched a frying pan for any caramelisation. The chocolate sauce that was on the plate with the chocolate tart was store-bought chocolate topping. I'm not even joking.
The menu had some clangers, highlighting a lack of attention to detail. The oysters are said to be 'chucked to order'. Does that mean they get thrown down on the plate? The menu also featured 'lettuces leafs' and 'desire mash potato'.
When we provided our Entertainment Book Gold Card to the waiter when we requested the bill, he argued about the value of the discount. After some whingeing he reluctantly honoured his own voucher.
My mother ordered the profiteroles for dessert. The waiter said they didn't have any. She then ordered the strawberry parfait. The waiter returned to tell her they didn't have any of that either. WTF?
I wouldn't have so many complaints if Wilson's Boathouse didn't charge so damn much for an ordinary experience. A tiny side of chips was $7. A dessert consisting of a tablespoon of sorbet with some sliced fruit was $14. The kids' meal of a small piece of fish with a handful of chips was also $14.
I cannot recommend this place to anyone. It left a bad taste in our mouths...

Possibly Brisbanes Worst Restaurant. I think Wilsons Boathouse would have to fall into the category of Brisbane's Worst Restaurant.
Dined there last week and there was not one thing that was positive about the place.
The food was ordinary, The service was bad, The restaurant was not clean. The staff Rude.
Could it possibly get any worse.
We were on a voucher and would still never come back to this place.
What a joke! Do yourself a favour and try somewhere different.

Lunch for two. Went to Sunday lunch here recently. We ordered the hot/cold seafood platter for "two". To say it was small (for the $50+ price) is an understatement. The small amount of food (a handful of chips, two small pieces of fish, three calamari, two prawns, one small crab cut in half, a small MB bug, one oyster (yes one), and one deep-fried prawn (again, just one on a seafood platter for two) was laughable.

Service can sometimes lift a so-so meal but it wasn't great either. Our water glasses were filled on arrival and that was it. The bowl provided for the crab/bug bodies was chipped. I don't think the waiter smiled or spoke to us once - aside from taking our order.

In saying that, the small amount of food was nice. Unfortunately there just wasn't enough and definitely not worth the money. It could be so much better but we won't be going back.

Sunday lunch. Dined there today in a group of four. I was a bit sceptical as I had read these reviews a few days ago. Well I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The barramundi was moist and flavoursome, the view from our table was superb and my dessert, creme brulee, was absolutely delicious. Like previous reviewers we also dined on a voucher and I have no idea what other people expected for $49 for 2 people!!
The decor is very "boathouse" and it does need a bit of a revamp but it was clean and a fabulous place to have lunch. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Glorified Fish and Chips. Very disappointing. This place has always had a renowned reputation for Brisbane's best seafood - I have no clue where people got that idea from. We took our grandparents here for dinner to treat them to a classy meal and fine dining experience. The atmosphere was cheap and run down, the table settings were like a takeaway fish and chip shop (could it kill you to put out 1 candle and a tablecloth?!), but most disappointingly the food was a complete let down. My husband ordered the Moreton bay bugs for $50 - it was the size of an appetiser with not even a handful of chips on the plate. We brought it to the waiters attention to which they said they can't control the size of bugs they catch. They could however adjust the price accordingly or at least offer a bigger salad or chip serving. Biggest waste of money ever!!

Such a let down. I recently had lunch here & was so looking forward to it as the place had a fab reputation a few years ago. The first thing I noticed was how run down the place was, spaces between floor boards on the floor, old tables with no tablecloths to at least dress them up. No attempt at all to make the place look even slightly upmarket to match their prices. The bathrooms were in a sad state too. The location is magic of course and we had a seat by the window that was terrific. The waiter informed us that the whole place is being knocked down next January to make way for a bigger restaurant and that it will be closed for 6 months while this happens. So they obviously are not bothered about improving anything before that happens. I had the Pasta Marinara & it was watery & bland. My order of beer battered chips never arrived as it was forgotten. My friend ordered a steak with red wine sauce & mushrooms & it arrived with a huge dollop of what appeared to be aoli on top with no red wine sauce or mushrooms! When it was pointed out, the waiter went to ask the chef what happened & he said that he "forgot to cook if differently to the usual menu". We had to sit there and laugh as the place was empty! We spent 2 1/2 hours there, only because of the fabulous view & not once did they refill our water glasses even! We ordered one cocktail each, lychee mojitos & they were $18 each!!! Tasted quite bland too sadly. They soooo need to pick up their game as it was like faulty towers being there. The deserts were bland too & even the coffee was ordinary. Might give it another chance when it reopens with the new building but not sure.

Wilson's Boat House. I so wanted to love it. The view was to die for. Firstly the set up of tables was all wrong-very unwelcoming. Then we had three different menus on the table. Before we could order we had to find out which one was correct for now. Then my daughter had to order not one ,not two but three cocktails before they had the ingredients to make what she wanted. My husband ordered earl grey tea. First he was served jasmine tea and then chamomile tea. Seafood was fresh. Meals were passable but not good. Gnocchi was watery. Often meals were delivered without spoons or forks. Fawlty Towers service it was a best. Come on guys. What gem of a location. Return clients is what you need. Sorry we will not be back. Meal was a disaster.
Martin Family

Terrible. Went there today with a group of 6. The place was half full and the waiting staff paid very little attention to us as a table. My father ordered a pot of earl grey tea. They messed it up four times giving him: green, chai, channomile and eventually earl grey. Food was extremely dissapointing after a 45 minute wait for the entree; salmon was well cooked however my partner and I ordered the same thing, I got mushrooms but didnt get spinach and she got spinach but didnt get mushrooms. Good to see that our $40 meals were well prepared by the finest chefs within the special school. I'm actually a little surprised they didn't top my meal with crayons. Topping it all off I asked for a knife and fork (because they obviously hadn't given us any) from the waiter who served me my food. She got me a steak knife and when she got to the table loudly exclaimed 'OH I THOUGHT YOU GOT A STEAK'. No nobody ordered a steak at my table. Its little things that convince me that this restaurant is a drug front. Turns out white can't cook food very well.

Domonic. My wife and I went to Wilsons Boathouse on the weekend and we found the food was excellent, particularly the calamari, as well as the service.
The views and the general atmosphere made it a great night for us.
We would recommend it to everyone.
Merichis
Excellent Seafood. Our group of 8 dined last night & ALL enjoyed fresh, well prepared Seafood dishes. We also chose Desserts which again were well presented & delicious. Our Waiter was attentive - if a little serious faced but made our night comfortable. This was after a late booking & VERY late change in numbers. We were given an excellent table with a great view of the Marina. WE did not have vouchers so "Yes" the prices were not cheap but where else are you so close to the Marina? The Restaurant was clean & well prepared. However I see a few items that could be tweaked. Some of us found the timber chairs VERY hard & uncomfortable. The Entry & the Bathrooms could do with a mini makeover to freshen them up. And the Restaurant could use some plants & dividers to make it a little cosier & some more Nautical items added for atmosphere. Otherwise WELL DONE....

Get a new chef!. Went here on a coupon a couple months ago and definitely not worth even the discounted price. I'm compelled to write a review now as the experience was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Although I couldn't fault the location or the service, the food was TERRIBLE. Dukkah tasted like straight salt, salmon was bland, spaghetti was tasteless in a watery tomato sauce, gnocci was store-bought (come on now), dessert (some chocolate pie thing) was also on store-bought pastry and looked straight out of a packet. Please, please get someone into the kitchen that can cook and stop cutting corners with cheap food. I appreciate that Wilson's management are actually taking the time to respond to reviews- I dearly hope they are spending as much time improving this place, because I would hate to see it close.
Cidersalty001
PLEASE...JUST CLOSE!!!. Wilson's Boathouse is the utmost worse experience. The food is appalling, the service is infuriating, the cost is worse yet!. Please just close your doors, and let someone decent take the premises. Manly deserves better.

This is the worst place I have been to. It was my anniversary and the staff spoiled it. The waiters need to go to fine dining school. Throwing the plates on the table was vwry rude. The food was appalling. Never again.
Stenson
Never again. I have been to many restaurants in my life but never have had the manager point to where our table was. Waited 10 minutes and asked for the wine list. No one came back so got the attention of Manager who came and said, to my horror "Whada ya want?" Then 10 minutes later we had to ask for meal menu. Took so long to get our starter that I was searching for a muesli bar in handbag. The main meals came out at same time but not so the desserts. 15 minutes apart. Will NEVER go back

Diana. Am giving this restaurant a like tick mainly for the incredible view right on the water, feels like a rustic sailing boat. I didn't find the place dirty (as some have suggested here), just rustic & somewhat authentic (it is a boathouse, shed? after all!!) The staff were all OK (they may have taken the previous comments on board. The prices are a little high but we did have a coupon deal. I found the entree to be OK (we had the bread with dips) the main I was disappointed with, I had the salmon with balsamic dressing & potato gnochi with spinich & button mushrooms. The spinich & mushrooms I could hardly see, the pasta looked like it was out of a packet, & the sauce overpowered the whole dish, was very strong. Actually ruined a rather good piece of salmon for me. My friend enjoyed the barramudi. The desserts were OK when they eventually arrived took 30mins after the mains to come.
Dochilber
Unbelievably BAD. For 9 dollars a glass, I got a 8 dollar a bottle wine.
Our main's lacked any seasoning of any any kind.
Absolutely no pride in the kitchen whatsoever. My Bug was cooked to death and beyond, Never had I had such a dry piece of seafood. No Butter, no oil, no lemon.
Just filthy.
The tenderloin steak, Overcooked, No garlic, no spice of any kind, No oil, butter or anything other than a dry hunk of meat slowly cooked, Never seared.
Just filthy considering the price.
A coffee ordered came out cold with more than a half cup of froth and less than a half cup of coffee. Yet you would gag at the price!
I could go on and on, But this place without so much as a tablecloth, yet prices through the sky.
My advice,
DON'T GO THERE!
Lulubell
Lacking Ambience & Overpriced!. It was our special 19 year wedding anniversary and it was like walking into a club house, entrance was dirty, waiter was friendly enough and the whole restaurant lacked complete ambiance. It was like a Faulty Towers restaurant style. The tables were a mishmash, had no table cloths, old floor boards that need to be redone and 80s style sliding doors. Service was mediocre and food ok but certainly not worth paying $150 for main/dessert & a drink . The pricing is similar to the Stokehouse and that is a restaurant worth talking about. Wilson's pick up your act, do a complete refurb or half your prices!!! Definitely not going back.
Wenno
Huge disappointment. Dined here in a party of 6 and not one of us enjoyed our main meal. The spaghetti marinara was below average in that it was bland and the sauce tasted like it had come out of a jar. The seafood pieces were also bland and parts tasted cold or partly frozen. The cost of this meal was $39 - top price for a below average pasta dish. Other meals at the table were also below par. The only saving Grace for the whole evening was that we were on a "deal" but even so the fact that it was such a below average meal with most at the table only eating a small portion must tell the chef an improvement is in order.
To add insult, we waited an extremely long time for the desserts - having to chase up the waitress.
The whole restaurant just does not have the atmosphere that it once had. All 6 of us will not be returning to this restaurant. You pay top $ for a below average meal.
Mkwakelin
Poor Food and Service. This is not a cheap restaurant, but the food was poor and the service worse. Thank heavens the night was redeemed by good dinner companions or the night would have been totally disappointing. Will definitely not be returning.
Matt Clark
Saw a deal in the paper, spoke to the owner who said it was over when we went to book, however he would honour it if we came for lunch. When we arrived and old guy said to us that the owner would not do that and accused us of lying! Wtf??? No wonder only 41% like this place, rudest service ever. I will make sure I tell everyone I know never to go to this restaurant. Get yourself some new staff!
Anastasia.angelopoulos
Dissapointed. I have been to this restaurant a number of times and usually spend around $150 for two people (entree and main each with wine). We have however, decided not to go back as the standard of the service is no longer tolerable. When paying for fine dining, the experience is just as important as the food. It seems that the problem is lack of training of the waitstaff, who have no idea of the basics. Our last experience saw us wait at the table for over 15 minutes once seated before someone asked if we were ready to order, with no water provided and no offer for drinks in the meantime. I am a pretty easygoing person, but I can't overlook the bad service anymore as it ruins the evening when we are looking for a nice experience as well as good food.

Fresh and Tasty Seafood. Very nice restaurant. View was spectacular - seafood fresh and tasty.

I read some average reviews, but these appear to be from people who purchased coupons for a cheap meal and wouldn't be happy anywhere!

If you want good seafood then give Wilsons a try. We will be back soon.
Mirandalewis1976
A Must Try Restaurant!. Absolutely Superb! What a lovely night we had. The food was incredible, the service perfect, and the view and location just amazing. The restaurant was recommended to us as a must do Seafood Restaurant in Brisbane. We are glad we tried it, and will be back over and over now. Prices were very reasonable, and the waiters not in our face like other places trying to make us buy more drinks. Lovely atmosphere. 5 Stars Wilsons!

Worst Restaurant I have ever dined at. To have the audacity to call this place "The Best seafood restaurant in Brisbane" should be illegal and an insult to the fine dining experiences in an around Brisbane. It is a grubby place with broken sleepers to the side and the entrance is shabby and tired looking and just not inviting. Old bar, dirty toilets .. I haven't even entered the main dining room yet! My 20year old daughter commented when she saw the entrance that if a young man brought her hear she would think it was a prank ( punked). The man at the bar couldn't speak English , the man who appeared to be the manager was rude. Food disgusting , what there was of it. Such small portions and outrageous prices. Seafood frozen not fresh.. I no my seafood don't insult my palate. Lumpy potato.. Look I just cannot believe this place Can still open .. I would be embarrased to ever be seen there again.. Thank god I didn't invite friends or colleagues. Surely there are no repeat customers there!! Do yourself a favour people of Manly and go bit further afield .. This place is taking advantage of the locals due to its location .. Not worth it.. Owners should be ashamed.. Can't complain about the service .. There wasn't any !!
Brett
Food is overpriced and below average. Service is also very poor. Location is nice. That's about all though. Would not eat there again.
Bon Appetit Foodie
Main meals were very disappointing, bland and extremely unsatisfying for the hefty price. Recommend others to go anywhere else in Brisbane City for a more enjoyable experience. Service was lazy and slow. Ambience did not live up to fine dining expectations. Should have read reviews prior to going.
Jamesjohng
Disappointed. Firstly we found the service lacking and had to ask two staff members for menus.
After establishing who our waitress was, we were advised that they had run out of menus and had to wait for other customers to finish with theirs before we were given two to share amongst our group. Our waitress was quite pleasant.
When placing our drinks order we were advised they had run out of coke. Other customers we spoke to were incredulous on how a restaurant with a bar could possibly run out of coke. They did offer diet coke.
Mains were disappointing on so many levels.
They then ran out of two of the deserts on the menu.
When replacement deserts finally arrived the ice cream was melted and was very ordinary. My desert was inedible.
We are regular diners and enjoy fine dining. This restaurant is advertised as best seafood in Brisbane but we totally disagree with this interpretation. The cost of the meals is exorbitant and at those prices we expect the food to reflect the cost.
On a positive note, the view is fantastic.
Very disappointing experience and we advise readers to go somewhere else.

Don't plan on eating or drinking before 9pm. Can't handle Xmas parties! Not enough staff. Foreign staff don't understand what you want - even lemonade!!!!

Sad. From start to finish,.... Sad.
From start to finish, our experience was disappointing.
Needs a complete overhaul, customer service training for staff & fresh (not frozen) seafood would be nice. The best part of our night was leaving.

Reviews are reflective of what to expect. Very average food, service and ambience. Excessively pricy for the offering. Keep on walking back to the Esplanade.
Kimgzrtner
Over priced & underwhelming.... The most over-priced, under whelming and just ordinary seafood restaurant I have been to. And the exotic fruit dessert was some thing a 9 year old would have made, but there would be more of it!
Victoria
Seafood not good. We have been here a few times and find the food is getting worse. It has lost its shine. Restaurant needs a revamp and the seafood was not fresh. Prawns were rubbery and the chips terrible and the crab was tasteless like it had been frozen.
J
Heard many good feedbacks this restaurant but end up it was such a disappointment. The seafood platter is bad, service is bad, none of the mains were good.it either taste bland or too salty. Honestly it would b wiser to use your money at some other restaurant. A lil scared to trust the positive reviews now since I had such a bad experience.
Tonyweir67
Very Sad. I have not been to this restaurant for a number of years and won't again ..... Very disappointed with the service , food and up keep of the premisses. The building is the perfect position for someone to do something great in Manly . Please sell to someone that is going to put some effort in. When you order a medium rare steak , you don't expect it to still be cold in the middle . You can't apologise to every one by offering free drinks as some drive when they go out for dinner. Please get your act together and put some effort in .
Db
No self respecting local dines there. I have heard many people say their meal was mediocre and the ambience crap. The service is pitiful as well, with disinterested waiting staff.
I have not been in 8 years as it was bloody awful then. I walk past and look at the run down facade and think what a shame as the location is magic. Manly is crying out for a good quality restaurant but instead get this over-priced terrible dining experience. The pricing is the same as the wonderful Phillp Johnson's Ecco Bistro (which is BYO) but there ends the comparison. Wake up and listen to your customers. I would rather get in a taxi and travel to town for a fine dining experience rather than waste my cash at Wilson's. I hear so many LOCAL people complain. This used to be, and could be a gold mine but have to say whoever runs this has run it into the ground. Stay away folks and instead of spending your time making fake reviews Wilson's owners, listen to the reviews and maybe you will fill the restaurant. Cannot believe any hospitality service would not listen to feedback and act. BTW similar reviews on eatability and other websites. LISTEN TO THE PUBLIC AS WE SPEAK WITH OUR FEET.
Big Eater
Poor experience. Very very poor
Ordered with our deal shared starter main course of your choice and a dessert
I was told that any main could be chosen only to receive a bill at the end of the dinner because my partners main was over $39 I was questioned as to whether I actually read the coupon
I ordered 300 g steak came out rare instead of M rare
Decided on the choc tart for dessert and was told I had made the wrong choice and that I should of waited for this particular waitress because her special dessert was the best
So overall will defiantly never be going again very poor food and service and overall experience was disgusting couldn't get out soon enough
Avid Diner
Absolutely appalling. Bad food, bad service. What disappoints me probably the most is that after reading through the reviews, I thought we MAY have a good experience. No so. Just before posting this I re-read the reviews & quite a few (incl the two by Cravat wearing critic) are highly likely to be written by people associated with Wilsons. Who would post two reviews in the space of a month or so? Also, check out the similar wording of some of the reviews eg 'haters will be haters' etc.
It is fair to say that the vast majority of reviews have indicated MAJOR flaws with Wilsons. We felt cheated enough by going there and being positively ripped off. Please don't rub salt into the wound by leaving glowing reports for yourselves. Just pick up the service, food quality and quantity and people might forgive you and give you another try.
Ciscoshell
Won't be back. We returned to Wilson's after several visits many years ago. We expected the prices to be higher than average but back then, the quality, quantity and view made it worth it.
We ordered two platters for two between four and were very disappointed - the quantity was not enough to fill an average appetite and the quality was nothing special given the price ($149 discounted from $396).
Deserts were nice.
John Hill
We live nearby and wish this place was better - but it just isn't. It's a dead duck & the guy who handles the front of house really needs to move on.
Unfortunately all our friends are right this place doesn't deserve another chance.
Angela
What a joke!. Seems like There are enough bad reviews but when will the management take notice? Had I read these before I parted with a lot of cash for the worst dining experience I wouldn't have gone. We didn't have a booking but there were plenty of tables though we were greeted as if we had interrupted them and told to sit near the bar and wait. Weren't asked if we wanted a drink. Staff definitely aren't happy to be there and it shows, nor do they know anything about fine dining. The only thing that represents fine dining is their prices. We ordered a starter and was wondering why it was taking half an hour when we were presented with our mains. I asked about the starter and the lifeless wait staff just looked at each other and we said don't bother we'll just have the mains. I had the bugs which was the most expensive meal I've ever had at $50 but was willing to pay for that as bugs are delicious. They were terrible - dry and tasteless. They were presented on a plate with some soggy lettuce underneath and 4 chips! Not even a wedge of lemon and no sauce. My husband had the smallest piece of barramundi on some lumpy mash potato - the sauce was nice though, there was still a scale on the fish and bones. We did want dessert but weren't going to hang around for that. Upon leaving the waiter kindly commented that he didn't charge us for the missing entree - why that was so gracious! We went to the Fish Cafe for dessert where the service was lovely.

Was'nt happy with the customer service and the food tasted funny. We ordered the hot/cold seafood platter

Lovely food. Nearly didnt go here because of all the negative reviews but so glad we did. The seafood platters were great! All us of thoroughly enjoyed our meals

Sadly very disappointing. I really hope the owner does something to turn this place around before it goes under. The restaurant promotes itself as a fine dining experience - but it is in poor shape, staff are not experienced or trained in quality food service, the food is at best pub food (bad pub food) and the place needs a good clean and tidy up. And to make things worse, the prices are ridiculously high - on par with fine dining restaurants. At the moment, anyone that goes to this restaurant expecting a nice meal walks away feeling robbed. Changes are needed urgently.
Michael
I created an account purely out of disgrace for this place. The serving sizes were small, the food quality was poor, the service was slow, the service was unprofessional, and to top it all off they make you pay an arm and a leg.
Avoid this place at all costs. I honestly would of had a better experience at maccas and for a fraction of the price.
Carby
Lovely. This was our first visit to Wilson's and we were fortunate enough to be able to use a voucher for the experience. Our waitress looked and behaved very professionally and the food was nice with lovely presentation. We were seated in the window and our guests enjoyed the spectacular view. If i had any complaints it would be that the food took rather a while coming (about an hour from when we sat down). I imagine that this would be because they were preparing it and it was a large meal. Mid-week they have half price lunch meals and we also enjoyed some very delicious deserts at very reasonable prices. We will be back.

Not impressed, wilsons was one of my favourite restaurants until Saturday night! I read all the bad reviews and didn't think it could be true. $40 for spaghetti marinara, that contained 2 prawns and something that vaguely resembled calamari, in what tasted like packet sauce. So disappointed, they appear to have got a new owner and its all gone downhill. The young waitress who set up our table dropped a knife, picked it up, waited for us 'not' to be looking and put it on our table! I won't ever eat here again

Relaxing Sunday. Just dinned at wilsons, had a great lunch sitting overlooking the manly harbour. Great seafood and surprisingly, for a seafood restaurant, really good steak, cooked to perfection.Staff attentive and friendly, which helped make it a very relaxed long lunch. We can see us becoming regular patrons, for a long relaxed Sunday lunch. Better than the mother in laws Sunday roast!!!!

Appalling!. We went here on Mothers Day (group of 5) expecting to have a nice lunch - what a mistake! for $75 per head our meals were appalling and well below the standard of a local fish and chip shop. The restaurant was dirty and run down and the staff were untrained and completly unprofessional all except an older gentleman who was very helpful and prompt. I sent an email to the restaurant that afternoon explaining my dissapintment and issues with no response, I am not really surprised though. For anyone looking for a seafood restaurant in Brisbane dont ignore the reviews this one does not even come close, and the owner should be embarassed to claim 'best seafood restaurant in Brisbane' absolutly appalling and I can completly understand now why the one at Portrside never survived!

FAIL. Rated best seafood restaurant in Brisbane. What a joke! Sure, the seafood was nice, but the service and cleanliness were disgusting!

The pricing is over the top too. The $30 Main of Whiting looked like a small kids meal at the local pub.

Give me Ashmore Steak & Seafood any day!!!

Stay away!. Made a reservation for my partner's birthday for a Thursday night, upon arriving there was no reservation. It didn't matter as there was only about 10 other people in the whole place and only half the room had tables.

As we were shown to a table we were asked if we had a coupon? As we sat down at the cafeteria type tables so close to the other diners and staring at our own reflections in the glass, I thought something was missing. The place had no music on and so we shared the quieted conversations of the other 10 diners.

A waitress came over to take our order, and I ordered the Barramundi. 5 min later the waitress came back and informed me they had no Barrumundi. I asked what the fish of the day was, and she stated it was grilled Salmon when grilled salmon was already on the menu. I asked what other fish they had, to be told they had the salmon or battered whiting. Sorry what? and this is a seafood restaurant.

The music then turned on which sounded like a compilation of the greatest love songs of all times played at different sound levels with a couple minute pause between each song.

At this point my partner and I started to think this was some kind of joke. The waitress had her shirt inside out and filled my glass of water and not his, her small child was running in and out of the kitchen with no shoes on, and another older child came out at one point asking about her homework.

After the 1 hour and 20 minute wait for our meals, we were less than pleased with what we were presented with. My oysters were not shucked, the Moreton Bay bug was not cooked the way stated on the menu, the warm vegetable salad was a mix that seemed like it had been bought from Coles two weeks earlier, and there were 4 chips on my plate. The bill was not brought to our table, we had to pay at the counter cafeteria style.

The waitress was so rude the only exchange of words was 'that will be $168'.

DO NOT waste your time or money at this place. The owners are either going out of business and are so far out the door they no longer care, or we were subjects of some sort of candid camera show, what a joke.
