TL;DR: Simply put, one of the best damn burgers that can be found for quite some miles. Abstaining away from the over the top gourmet style, it is down to earth, unashamed in loving the carnivore diet, and about as rustic as it can get. And that is why it is such a winner in my eyes.
If there was any way that was the key point in how to make a burger, how to sell a burger, and how to truly get into and under the skin of how to make the signature food be as good as it can be, Getta Burger shows all of the right ways in which to do it. Going all the way back to basics, and that includes the aesthetics of the shop front, it is purely visceral in how they present themselves. Never mind coming here for a nice meal, it is all about getting a good, and filling morsel of food that is back to basics plus showing a whole different way of presenting the humble burger.
This was a usual case when going to get something to eat at work, that meant the good old UberEats. With only so much time that is dedicated to getting something to eat at the lunch hour, naturally it was to be a quick and easy kind of fare which often means burgers are at the forefront of my mind in this situation. A previous visit several years back to the Carindale branch had me remembering just how good Getta Burger was, and seeing it expand into some other suburbs is a definite good sign - these are a unique sort of burger to combat the gourmet ones that exploded in popularity some time back. That was the essential thought process looking through the app, and just a few touches of the button and on it was to just sitting and waiting.
I won't go too hard on the service this time, as the deliveryman might have been new at the job and learning the ropes. Still, it will be said from looking at the map that he was wandering around a bit too much looking lost - kind of ruining the efficiency that often gets touted from here about UberEats - so with some future help, he can start learning the ropes more and observe the best routes to get to certain locations. That being said, at least he knew to call the client's number to get an easy meeting spot. Before long, the food was ready to eat, and I will give mercy and let a new streak start with UberEat's quality of delivery service.
All that is on offer here are some burgers. Big, meaty burgers that don't have an awful lot of salad on them, and keep the composition simple. Whether it is beef or pork as the choice of meat, both of these suckers are slowly cooked over many hours to seep in the natural flavours, along with the basting sauces that are all done in house. Only a few additional ingredients in total are included among the burgers which helps with their vibe and the choices really contribute to the style chosen. Think of it as Southern style barbecue, and that about sums it up.
One of the other aspects to notice with UberEats is that like an Easter egg hunt, hidden gems are able to be found that are offered by the restaurants exclusively through that service - here was one of them. For a set base price - extra money depending on certain choices - they had GettaUber which was the choice of a burger, choice of a drink, plus a side of their fries. Choosing water as my drink, the choice of the burger had to be the Gettallrounder - it just sounded too good not to. This was a beef patty weighing in at 200grams, plus double lots of cheese, bacon, caramalised onion, tomatoes, pickles and lettuce, plus a mixture of their sauces - mustard, mayonnaise and their specialty barbecue sauce. If that wasn't enough - and I have a habit when it comes to burgers around here - the additions I put were the jalapenos and getting some fries put on the burger.
And this was one of the hugest suckers that has ever been around town. A word to the wise is to make sure you have a whole lot of serviettes in tow, since these burgers are messy buggers to eat and it is nigh impossible to leave without having to wipe either your fingers or your face. It will be subjective, and to me this is the indication of a great burger. All the aspects about it were on point. The beef patties were huge, tender, and definitely made from a good grade quality of meat. They were solid, they absorbed much of the sauce and melted the cheese to a good consistency that covered the patties effectively. Still good, though if it were cooked until quite crispy it would have been perfect, was the big rasher of bacon they had on the burger, then the pickles gave their signature vinegary flavour that added well to it and the spiciness of the jalapenos contrasted and complimented it quite well. The carmalised onions made a sweet taste in there at some points, the lettuce and tomato were both simply there, plus each of the sauces combined gave a distinct edge with creaminess from the mayonnaise, the bold bite of the mustard, and the smokiness, and umami aroma from the barbecue sauce. Is your mouth watering yet?
All of this had to have the right sort of bread roll, where it needed to be soft enough to chew but also keep solid to maintain form. That is a lot harder than it sounds, thus it requires as astute mindset to find it all out. The guys at Getta Burger are experienced in this regard and have gotten the right sort of bread roll for it. What that rounds off to is one burger where nothing about it is overlooked, and the flavour is an explosion with each bite.
What is also good about here is the fries. These are shoestring, and seasoned with their in-house recipe that creates a smokey and slightly tangy aroma that is reminiscent of the said Southern-style barbecue. The only real issue here was that the serving size was too small; that is in particularly so when they are good enough for people at the table can't help but keep in nicking a taste - and one of my colleagues is definitely like this.
It is safe to say that Getta Burger still kicks ass. Anyone here who considers themselves a burger fan, but has yet to venture to here or one of the other venues you have homework to do - get here and try the stuff, because you ain't going to regret it. This is one of the strongest 4.0-scores that I have given, since it was overall a really satisfying meal and lunch though it is still not too much to vouch a really strong opinion about. Nothing about the burger is able to be faulted, maybe the less than stellar delivery put a stopper in it somehow, but ultimately this is just as good as I remember it the first time around and may well be the best burgers that Brisbane has got to offer.
