I went there for dinner. I found the service was excellent and the staff was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed the Japanese beer and it paired perfectly with the authentic and delicious food. It is the real deal!

Chaya is everything you want in a Suburban restaurant. It's not pretentious, you can generally walk in and get a table and the food is out of this world awesome.

The grilled miso eggplant is amazing, and the adgashi Tofu is my favourite in Brisbane. The staff are attentive and helpful and the food is fast enough (but not too fast if you know what I mean) but you never sit there starving. Absolutely my favourite Japanese in Brisbane and a great option thats not as lame as uber eats for a Thursday night ;)

Love the ambiance of this place (super cute izakaya style), the friendly staff and the authentic but interesting menu. The sashimi was super fresh, the Wagyu tataki mouth watering, the chocolate wasabi gelato so good and great selection of beers (yebisu!), Sake and house made plum wine. I'm pretty picky with Japanese and this one def passes the test. Love that this is my new local. Can't wait to go back for lunch to try the katsu curry 🤤

Small and cute Japanese restaurant dishing up very authentic fare. The charlgrilled beef was amazing! And the ice ball sashimi is a lot of fun. Housemade plum wine was made from Chardonnay and plums, and its as good as any dessert wine. Will definitely return!

Without a doubt, the best Japanese restaurant in Brisbane.
There is an option of traditional Japanese items to creative "Yoshoku" (Fusion Western) option as well.

I dine at Chaya almost once a week, and I know why :)

Chaya is one of the best restaurants in Brisbane without a shadow of a doubt. The food is exquisite and the service impeccable. Don't expect a fine dining decor because what you get is fine dining food in a casual environment. The owners are accomplished chefs and both trained in Japan and they know their food inside out. The yakitori and Tskune is as good as you'll get anywhere and done over a proper binchotan charcoal bbq. The croquettes are the best I've had and the Tonkatsu is a cut above anything I've had in Brisbane. Whatever is on the menu is done with absolute finesse. A great selection of imported Japanese craft beer, sake and japanese whiskey. Do yourself a favour and go there....you won't be disappointed !

I just want to say that I didn’t eat here, so I can’t really tell you much about the taste of the food. But the staff were one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Since I was vegetarian, there were only a few options on the menu, and those didn’t really excite me. I came with two of my friends and they wanted to eat there, so I let them, and I got a vegetarian burger from the shop next door. I felt really guilty coming back to Chaya, but they warmly welcomed me. The next thing they did was ask me what I normally have when I go to a Japanese restaurant. I informed them that I usually have curries with croquette or tempura. Their active feedback was amazing, even though I wasn’t a customer. The two staff then went back inside to the kitchen, and come out a few minutes later saying that if I came back the next week, there would be a croquette curry waiting for me. It was at that moment I knew I had to review them. Although I couldn’t go the following week, I am sure they would have had their croquette waiting for me. Thank you for your hospitality! ありがとう ございます。

Have been here a few times now, both for lunch and dinner, every time has been excellent. My wife who is Japanese simply loves the place. Food is exceptional, the atmosphere even better. So many “Japanese” establishments these days masquerade as the real thing, often times run by non Japanese. Chaya is the real deal, it feels like dining in Japan. Owner and staff are all Japanese and are true craftsman of their art. I can not recommend this place enough!!

Have been here twice so far. Once had the Hamburg which was absolutely delicious and the other time I had the chicken katsu curry, which was also delicious. The service here is absolutely outstanding, they have free WiFi which works really well and some very tasty Japanese craft beers. Worth giving it a go! Highly recommended.

The food was absolutely amazing - they have such attention to detail and the food that is created from a humble little hole in the wall restaurant just absolutely blew us away. Home made plum wine, a saki list to boot and the tastiest authentic Japanese food we have ever had. I don’t usually write reviews up here but @chayarestaurant_newfarm is a serious winner and everyone should know about it! Well done Jimmy and Satoshi!! Ps this sashimi is in a ice ball!! 😳🍣😍
