A bit of hit and miss, but its OK.
We had nice deep fried fish, and they did give out some jely slices for desserts, which was a nice gesture,
But the noodle soup and chow kway tiauw was a little bit "missing of something"
Service was quick amid the waitress did not fully understand..
Had Sunday lunch at this restaurant. Venue is huge with high ceiling. I love the wall painting that reminds me the trip to Ha Loong Bay. Ordered the Special Beef Noodle Soup, DIY Pork Ball Rice Vermicelli Wrap and Deep Fried Pork Large Intestine. Portions are generous but the pork balls could be much better if they were grilled instead of deep-fried. Hero should be the Pork Intestine, where the skin is so crispy with shallots inserted in the middle increasing the taste and moisture texture, thumb-up!
If you go there, please do not forget to order the Vietnamese iced coffee (I had the Iced Black Coffee), which is so strong and d...good!
A fantastic place, great food and very good value for money. I was impressed by their extensive menu - definitely something for everyone and it can be hard to decide. Both the Chinese and the Vietnamese dishes on the menu are excellent. I look forward to eating here again in the future.
Whenever I end up having Vietnamese food anywhere other than here, I always wish I put the effort in to drive out to Darra for Que Huong. Not that I have ever been to Vietnam, the food tastes authentic and never fails to deliver. The service is prompt, but don't be afraid to wave your arm around for attention. The other factor that draws me to this restaurant is the outrageously tacky and amusing decor that always leaves me asking questions about what goes on after the 'restaurant' closes...
One of the better Vietnamese/Chinese restaurants around Brisbane, this one is particularly popular with the local Vietnamese community for functions due to its size. The decor is basic and it's located next to the Darra railway station.
The food is generally delicious - my picks are the steamed ginger & shallot oysters and sweet chilli oysters (get a dozen with half/half), combination hor fun noodles, salt & pepper quail, combination steam boat, crispy skin chicken and salt & pepper calarmari (this can be hit and miss). Que Huong is well known for its chilli crab but I've only had the salt & pepper crab which is great (obviously I love anything salt & pepper! Haha).
Tips - the orange juice is freshly squeezed and so good! There's a small car park for the restaurant to the left, as well as parking in front.
For great Chinese / Vietnamese food, this place is worth a try. It's not the fanciest restaurant around being across from the Darra train station, but the food is tasty and it's super casual. The service is typical Asian 'style' but it's fast and efficient. Any of their mud crab dishes are excellent, and the hot pot is great too.
This place is always a goodie for big family dinners. Always taste nice and is always consistent with food and appearance except this time the Canh Chua tasted very salty even mixed with rice which was a let down because I enjoy that dish the most
Pretty Amazing Crab. Came here cause i was recommended by a family friend whos been dining here for over 2 years. We came on a saturday night, gosh they were packed but luckily we already made a reservation. Ordered their specialty which was singapore chill crab and man it was the best crab ive ever tasted. We also tried out different variety of stir fry dishes and vietnamese soup which was suggested by our friends and yes!! they were right those dishes were good.
One thing i do recommend is go on a weekday if you want your food to come out fast.
A cheap favourite . Chicken and corn soup is good. Service is quick.
Great!. Food was delicious, fresh and very cheap
Not bad, but not great. We love our viet food - eat it a LOT - at least every fortnight if not every week. We are big fans of Phong Trinh at Inala and used to love Pho 83 (before it changed owners a hundred times, and then turned into a poorly-patronised japanese and then burnt down in suspicious circumstances). We have tried most of the viet places at Darra and whilst we find them okay, we still head back to Inala.
The one we hadn't tried was Que Huong so we decided to give it a whirl on Wednesday night. It was surprisingly fairly full for such a big restaurant - so that was a good sign. We usually order beef pho - it's the dish we use to judge viet places by - but for some reason we didn't feel like pho. We also didn't order any crab - crab at any brisbane asian place is just never as good as the real deal in Singapore - so we don't bother anymore.
What we did end up ordering was wanton soup for me (a lovely flavoursome and slightly spicy broth, but the wantons were a little chewy and the skin too thick), a hot and sour soup for hubby (which he quite enjoyed). We then had the viet beef salad - we were warned by the waitress that this would be very spicy and were we sure - yes we were, and no it wasn't overly spicy. We were also disappointed at the amount of tendon in this dish as opposed to actual beef (I do not like tendon at all), we were also surprised that it wasn't served with prawn crackers (as is usual at viet places here in Brissie). No problem - we asked for some - but they were forgotten and by the time they arrived on the table the salad was all but finished (apart from the huge pile of tendon we left). So that wasn't a success.
We also had the salt and pepper calamari - this was delicious. Tender and spicy and just very very yum. However the ordered bowl of steamed rice never made it to the table either. So it was all a bit hit and miss to be honest. The fresh lemon soda was divine! We may return at some stage to give their Pho a go, but we won't be rushing back.
Love love love.. Best cheap Vietnamese restaurant.. So good, fast service and food is authentic..little Saigon
Great food, great atmosphere, and so cheap!! Ate way too much but already looking forward to our next visit.
Nice crab dish. Quails are delicious. Caramelised silver perch in clay pot is very authentic. Sweet n sour soup with okra, elephant ear stalks, bean sprout and paddy herbs needs to be a bit more sour.
Orange Blossom Special
+4.5
Great Food! Great Value!. Que Huong certainly is a hidden gem! Had it not been for a group of co-workers heading out for dinner together, I'm not sure my partner and I would have ever ventured to Darra for a Chinese or Vietnamese meal - and boy we would have missed out on something good!
Upon arriving at Que Huong we found that parking was a bit questionable, but were able to find a spot on the street. We also noted that the train station was less than a block away, which makes it quite handy.
The restaurant was brightly lit and as soon as walked in, there was no doubt that they served seafood here!
We were seated (9 of us) at a round table with a lazy susan on it for easy passing of dishes - or in our case, wine bottles! (BYOB here.) The menu was extensive! Roughly 10 pages to go through which were well organized into categories. Although Que Huong serves both Chinese and Vietnamese, there are only two pages devoted to Vietnamese dishes. The price of the Vietnamese dishes were better priced and started around $8!!
In that I have both a picky stomach and picky palate, I was going to order my own dish and the others would be sharing.
I ordered off the Chinese menu: Egg or Rice Noodle with Beef ($11.80) and although I chose the rice noodle, I did get both in my dish. We had told the waitress that this meal was just for me, however, there must have been a language barrier in that my food came out practically last meaning most of the people at the table were more than half way done by the time I got mine! This was a big oops, and I was not happy, but I will say, that had my dish been part of the sharing conglomeration, it would have come out in a timely, staggered fashion.
This did give me a chance to sample one of the other dishes, the lemon chicken. Unfortunately the chicken I got had not been dipped into the lemon sauce, but it was still lovely. The batter wasn't too thick or greasy and the chicken was juicy. Good choice.
Other dishes at our table were mixed veggies, mud crabs, lamb, duck and a sizzling dish (all separate meals) and I have to say the portions were huge… and cheap! There were absolutely no complaints on any of it!
When my meal finally arrived - and my partner had to go up twice and ask for it, it was hot and fresh! The sauce was light and not overly salty. The beef was in tender strips and the massive amount of veggies contained whole mushrooms, red capsicum baby bok choy and onion. All stir fried, al dente and crisp - fantastic!! The sauce was a little on the runny side which would have been suited with an order of rice, but in that this was a noodle dish, I didn't think I'd have to order this. It was still tremendous though as were all of the dishes we ordered!
We all left Que Huong very full and satisfied! I would highly recommend this restaurant for their quality, variety and prices! I look forward to coming back again and trying other dishes and some of their Vietnamese meals! I was so impressed with Que Huong's big, inexpensive and tasty dishes that it is completely worth the trip out to Darra!
The restaurant is pretty stock standard Asian restaurant with lots of tables, live seafood in glass tanks and lots of families with young kids everywhere.
