Review Banoi - Brisbane

Zhuzhu Chen
Had lunch here the other day. Grilled chicken rice- chicken was cooked to perfection and super tender juicy and tasty. My partner loved it so much, he went back to eat it again the next day. Soft shell vermicelli noodle- crab was very delicious crispy and meaty. But the sauce for the noodles was on the sweet side. The spring rolls that came with this was also light and crispy. Prawn bites - were a let down. Weird pastry and not much prawn flavour or texture. Overall great food and comfortable decor.

Dropped by Xin Chào for a late dinner after Pinot Palooza. Food was delicious and we really enjoyed the feed after a boozy afternoon. Tried the Saigon Steamed Rice Rolled Pancake, Crispy Chicken Noodle soup, Spicy Beef and Pork Noodle soup and Coconut Pandan Creme Brûlée.

The food was great, and the staff were friendly. It was a busy Saturday afternoon, so the service was a bit slow. Keeping that in mind, it's worth a visit 🙂

Trevor and the team were amazing tonight, friendly service and amazing food. Always enjoy coming in for date night with my partner. Highly recommend for dinner or cute dates 😊

Just had the BEST beef Pho. The flavours and the fresh ingredients and lovely service is why they get 5 stars from me.

A workplace lunch for collective birthdays. We booked a table for 9. We went on a Friday which is crispy pork day. Those that ate the crispy pork dishes said they were delicious. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I had the chef's special a mushroom pancake, which was delicious. Friendly staff. Easy to order and pay as a group as table orders are done via a barcode scan, so no bill splitting problems. Though I did miss reading a hard copy menu and chatting with the staff about the menu... online menu ordering a little impersonal. No doubt others will totally love it. Also the homemade lemon drink was reportedly delicious and refreshing.

Really great vege options. Best tofu noodle salad I've had in Australia. Lychee crush within was pretty lush too! The place itself has a really nice atmosphere and cool decor. Will definitely be back, highly recommend. Thanks 🥰

We have been four times since it opened, including today and each time, the dishes are delicious! Major fans of the crab prawn spring rolls, bao buns (all flavours) and the maple siracha chicken ribs. Service is always good and the music brings a good vibe. Will be back again!
These guys are amazing! Consistently good, bright and fresh flavoursome Vietnamese. Salt and pepper chicken ribs epic.

Come and support your local legends! You will be impressed by the delicious food & professional & friendly service!

Pretty decent rice paper rolls, perfect snack on the go! Tried the chicken and the fish and would come back for sure.

I work nearby and come in often for takeaway. It’s prompt, healthy and tasty. I usually get the rice paper rolls. The chicken or grilled fish are favourites. The chicken tacos are great too. It is a little pricey but worth it. I will definitely be back... later this week.

If you're looking for a place with flavoursome food, this is it! We tried the soft shell crab buns... Yum! The prawn bites were delish and so was the chicken curry and salt and pepper tofu (was super smooth and soft). Definitely worth a visit!

Service is friendly and fast; Lovely indoor and outdoor seating as it gives me the vibes of eating asian street food. Restaurant is clean and well kept.

I ordered their A1 lunch combo which was a beef pho cup, half a pork classic sandwich, fried spring rolls, and an iced coffee ($15AUD). Great value if you’re looking to sample multiple things! The beef pho looked and tasted more like bun bo hue, but still extremely flavorful - not sure if this is from a different region of VN or was a mistake, but either way, really good. Sandwich was not my favorite as the baguette wasn’t toasted but that’s just personal preference. Flavors however reminded me of home in California so definitely nostalgic feels here! Spring rolls were so crispy and juicy, really recommend! Coffee was delicious with deep flavors and STRONG af (I’m prepared to die today). Overall, super pleased with this rendition of Viet food.

Great Asian fusion menu. Primarily Vietnamese, but with some nice variations from other cultures. The steam bun tacos are excellent and the spring rolls are fantastic.

The most impressive thing to me is the consistency. I work nearby and eat here regularly. It's always delivered high quality and consistent food. Highly recommend!

Banoi is one of my favorite restaurant in Brisbane! Food is always tasty and delicious. Staff are always welcoming and helpful 😊. See you again very soon!

I really enjoy the genuine minimalism of Banoi as a modern Viet eatery. The self ordering ticket system is quaint and effective. All the meals we ordered were substantive, fresh and well balanced examples of contemporary viet/aus.. Wagyu salad (crispy greens), pork and prawn wontons (contrast of rich filling and crunchy pastry), and subtle turmeric fish were perfect... Relaxing and friendly environment that we were happy to kick back in for ages....

Came here with an Eatclub app voucher. I got the lunch set consisting of bun bo hue, banh mi, prawn and taro rolls and Vietnamese iced coffee. The coffee was really strong and addictive, causing me to experience a caffeine high, but it's so worth it. The noodle soup was really flavourful and had the right amount of spice. The service here was really wonderful too!

Summer is in a full swing, and what I was looking for was this refreshing, tasty Vietnamese rice noodle salad. The noodle was nice and soft, and the rest of ingredients were served raw-crunchy sprout, carrot, cucumber, lettuce and mint. The unique bbq pork patty or Nem Nuong was presented different from others that I have tried-rather thinly sliced than balled. It was so delicious that I wanted more. Nuoc cham, a thin sauce with salty, sweet, sour flavors was accompanied on the side. And the coconut slushy perked me back up from the hot day. Enjoyed the quiet lunch period with fast and efficient service. The only minus point was that no dedicated parking available.

Have eaten here a few times now. The food is consistent, fresh and tasty, and the fair pricing means you leave with a smile on your face. The soft tacos are my favourite menu items by a mile, and in fact the mains are generally a little underwhelming after starting with these. The restaurant is set up nicely, however it is very noisy and difficult to hear any conversation - generally gets quite fatiguing quickly. There is also no air conditioning that I noticed and our group really struggled with the heat after a little while. We were going to stay for some more drinks but simply had to get outside into the cooler air. Will likely visit again as the quality of the food trumps the shortcomings mentioned here but would easily bump this up another star if they were addressed somewhat.

Was on the search for a cheap, light, tasty lunch and Banoi provided. Came to Banoi on a Saturday for a late lunch. We sat at a table inside right under the air con vent which was very noisy... I loved the ordering system, you can take your time deciding and make any adjustments to the meals. My group of 3 decided to share the following: crab and prawn spring rolls, steamed wontons, chicken rice paper rolls, soft shell crab rice paper rolls, pork belly taco bun, chicken curry and the pork belly salad bowl. Everything was DELICIOUS the spring rolls were a stand out! We definitely over ordered, I left feeling full and extremely satisfied. The curry was so different and was served over vermicelli noodles which made it similar to a laksa. I need to come back and try their pho because we all know thats the best thing about Vietnamese food. The only tiny negative was some of the 'hot' items were slightly cold but we can let that slide. Thanks Banoi! I will be back shortly.
Spice Is Life
Dined with a group and ordered the grilled chicken vermicelli noodles. The place was pumping when we were there but food still came out in decent time. At $14 the meal was well priced and was a generous serve. There’s nothing worse than biting into a tough and dry piece of meat but the chicken was grilled to perfection and tender to bite!

Went here with the parents for weekend lunch; we were particularly intrigued with the various Vietnamese menu items available.

We ordered a Iced Vietnamese Coffee (caffeine and condensed milk, what can go wrong?), and Homemade Kumquat Lemonade (subtle, fresh and not-too-sweet) to freshen ourselves.

For lunch, we ordered and shared:
- Cao Lau: I was personally excited to try this dish, as I am not aware of many restaurants that serve this traditional Hoi An specialty. It was fresh and textural, albeit missed the slight chewiness of the special Hoi An noodles. The sauce was also a little sweet for my liking.
- Bun Bo Hue: good balance of spiciness; good portion of protein and noodles.
- Pho Dac Biet: nice flavoured broth; also good portion of protein and noodles.
The noodle soups also came out with a little accompaniment of fresh herbs, beansprouts and lemon.

Friendly and efficient service. Self-written orders. Tap water table service. Reasonable prices. Casual ambience - offers indoor and outdoor seating.

Overall, a great Vietnamese option on the ever-popular King Street. I will definitely come back to try other Vietnamese items available, as well as 'Crispy Pork Fridays'.

Stumbled upon Banoi during a work conference and what a reward it was dining there. It’s an unpretentious little place that lets the food do the talking. Awesome authentic Vietnamese fare with so much flavour. I was lucky enough to have a few dishes, steamed wontons (delicious), rice paper rolls so fresh and filling, beef pho (one of the best I’ve had), vermicelli lemongrass beef- a real highlight too. I highly recommend this place, it’s also excellent value for money. Probably one of the best Vietnamese places I have been to.

Came with a large group last week and was very impressed with the offering in Banoi. I opted for the lunch special of $15 which was 3 crab and prawn spring rolls with Chilli sauce, a half Banh Mi Pork Roll, A mini Pho, and a Viet ice coffee! Bloody great value. I really enjoyed trying a little bit of everything and it didn't break the bank. The only thing i would have liked more, would have been a bit more meat in the Banh Mi, but i still had an awesome overall experience.
Everyone in the group had really positive things to say about the venue, it was Friday, we sat outside, it was sunny and the vibes were good :) Will definitely return

Tried Banoi last week and I was really impressed. Service was great, restaurant is well fit out in a good location and above all, the food was delicious. I’m always skeptical of Vietnamese restaurants outside of inala and surrounds however Banoi delivers authenticity and flavor without leaving me thirsty from a huge msg hit. I particularly like the bun bo hue which was so good I inhaled it before I could remember to take a photo. Highly recommend, will be going back for Friday pork crackling banh mi.

Fine tuned yet unpretentious Vietnamese food with great flavour, set in a casual chic atmosphere. A definite go to when I get my soup cravings!

Had the Pho. It is the third time I’ve been here and every time I have gotten the beef pho. Tonight there was definitely something wrong with the soup. It was basically inedible. Way to much cinnamon, which gave it a strange flavour. Service was not great either - didn’t get asked how my meal was, so unfortunately did not get a chance to mention how subpar the pho was. Not good at all -

TL;DR: Banoi is one more solid effort that has several good aspects going for it. Solid as always, as Vietnamese keeps on proving itself to me, there really isn't anything else to elaborate upon beyond the food being substantial, and filling regardless of a whole meal or one of their tasty snacks.

One of the big eatery mainstays down the King Street lane-ways, Banoi is what happens with the culmmination of several generations of Vietnamese residents honing in their craft and showing just how good and reliable all the bites are. From a look at the photos online, it has a cute aesthetic that is simple and inviting, plus the service would definitely go well along with it. Best of all, the portions are substantial and each item tastes quite good.

Once and again, here come to lunch time at work and not just any kind of lunch-time. Most of us can agree there is something different in the air when it comes to Fridays, that feeling which hasn't worn off since the school years. For the most part though, I have been keeping it on the conservative side but sometimes the pieces fall in line to think "why not" to trying something a bit different.

The conservative aspect might have been a bit of a stretch, since often it defaults to the food court at work. Those options are pretty small, and get a bit stale after a while of trying them - as with anything. With the pieces falling into line, the boss was going St. Elsewhere from the work place, and the next most junior colleague had his usual venture out as well. With the rest out of commission or otherwise occupied, I was only one of two there - and it was off to the nearby bar - serves drinks and some peanuts, otherwise any food can be brought in. That was the time to strike.

Many previous attempts at getting the UberEats at the right location have sort of gone astray, and I hadn't used it at work for quite some time. I am always willing to give it another go, and that I did. The only problem was from where? Most of the time, I have the preference for the lunch delivered to be more finger-food friendly than not which usually has a few options left - one of them being the banh mi. There were two places that did Vietnamese, and I have not made it subtle that the best combination of banh mi and the signature coffee. One did one and not the other, the other was inverse - kind of at a bit of a tizzle. With it getting closer to the lunch hour, and having to arrange it without much suspicion from the boss. All of that landed here, and just a bit by bit it was getting a decent feed in. With an undisclosed anecdote occurring around now, it might well have been a good call - and the fact that the meal that I had was very filling, substantial, and tasty to boot.

Plugging in the order to get it here as soon as possible, the big meal possibly had it be about an hour or so before arriving at the destination, but what really matters is that it got here without much hassle or aimless wandering from the Uber driver's part. In fact, even if it wasn't exactly at the stated location he was good enough to stay in one spot (not too far away) and phone me ahead so I could meet him in the middle. This was good in thinking on the spot, keeping the client in the know, and efficiently delivering the goods.

The general theme here is street food, and in saying that the menu is still pretty big having a number of tasty options to select from. This starts off with various kinds of finger foods, which extends to the classic rice paper roll, and some more inventive concoctions including a steamed taco bun. The more substantial meals come out with some of the classics including pho, all sorts of noodles dishes, some rice dishes, salads, pancakes, the classical banh mi, and even a few kinds of dessert to boot. Drinks have not been abandoned, with the best foot being put forward in the form of coffee - both hot and cold, two different styles. As well as that, they offer all kinds of juices, smoothies, house-made sodas, and teas, along with the usual lot of sodas, and waters. Pork rules the roost on Fridays, with several dishes that are a-steal in stores. Not everything here was on the UberEats menu, and there was still a good selection to tempt a hungry stomach plus enough here to ensure a feast if need be.

What started off the order was the iced coffee, since the coffee itself doesn't need the bahn mi for me, and they are pretty hard to refuse regardless. Going on from that, the crux of the meal went down to some vermicelli noodles - the choice ended up being the chicken curry version.

From there, it simply expanded with a couple of extra snacks on the side in order to give more of a substantial review. The first one was a two-piece of rice paper rolls, in which the selected flavour was soft shell crab. A second lot that sounded too interesting to pass up were their banh no kep, which is a bit like a taco using steamed bun as the outside. With these suckers being relatively a-steal two varieties were gotten - one of soft shell crab, and the other was chicken.

Starting off with the coffee, it may not have been the best one around that I have had, though this is a case where it is still good especially given that it was a hot day. The unique combination of it being super strong from the concentration of the coffee, plus the excess sweetness from the base of the condensed milk. Whether it is hot or cold, this will always be going down a treat.

The vermicelli dish used a base of semi-cold noodles, plus a combination of lettuce, shredded cucumber, carrot, and daikon, plus a mixture of herbs and some scallion-based oil for good measure. With the chicken curry choice, this had a coconut cream base that was flavoured with yellow curry, and had bits of sweet potato in it along with a whole caramlised onion, plus big pieces of chicken to compliment it all. With all the soup sauce that there was, they provided a couple of bits of bread to soak it all up.

Both the snacks that were gotten in conjunction to the curry were just as good. Soft shell crab will always prove itself to be a reliable option, due to the lithe texture and the subtly sweet flavour that goes with it. In addition to that, it goes down easily with a little bit of a crunch assisting it all. Kudos will be given to the choice of sauce with it - a slightly spicy Sichuan seasoning, offset with some watercress and creamy crab sauce. The second one was chicken, that was accompanied with a sriacha mayonnaise that was pretty spicy, and some sprouts. The steamed bun they were served in was soft, and easily soaks up all kinds of sauces. These make for a quick little bite, and are definitely worth getting.

Last of all are the rice paper rolls, which we all know by now. These were big and thick, filled with a heap of vermicelli noodles, carrots, and coriander plus the choice of meat. I went with soft shell crab for a second round, and it was fresh and tasty. Two a piece come with an order, and these will be substantial snacks yet again.

Head's up to this place. More often than not, you can easily rely on a Vietnamese place to deliver a solid and quality meal, and here we are proving it once and again. I am pretty sure that this place is highly worth its salt in every aspect of the word when dining in, and that Banoi is going to become a local favourite if it has not already. Great food, good selection, a solid effort that is commendable - this is certainly recommended by-and-by.

Located in the new King Street precinct in Bowen Hills this spot is convenient for office workers during the week. A good amount of seating inside and out with fresh decor surrounding. The menu is an inventive take on Vietnamese classics and I can highly recommend the Bahn Mi and smoothies/drinks selection.

I'd suggest that is can't be 100% classed as Vietnamese. Guo Bao isn't Vietnamese per say however, I'll leave my puritan biases to one side. King St is fast becoming a welcome relief from the tumble of the Valley if you are wanting to eat around that area. While it is shinny and new which I find a bit contrived it is lovely all the same.

I've spent a reasonable amount of time in central Vietnam and eaten authentic Cao Lao noodles. I was very excited to see it on the menu at Banoi as it's not common to see on any menu. The noodles were not authentic Cao Lao noodles rather a ramen style wheat noodle and while similar, not authentic. The flavours however, were reasonable. Not as authentic as in Hoi An but good none the less.

Service was great and the staff very friendly, all in all, a great dining experience.

AMAZING! 11 out of 10. I really can’t fault this place. The food is great, the service is fast and cheerful, it’s great value for money and the décor is lovely.
My partner and I recently stumbled upon this place before going to a gig at the Tivoli. I had the chicken vermicelli salad and my partner had the chicken curry. Both were delicious and I can honestly say that the chicken curry was the best I have ever had. The giant bowls of pho being consumed by other diners also looked mouth watering. You can really tell that the head chef is really passionate about the food.
We also had an entree of yummy steamed buns and my partner had a Vietnamese beer and the entire bill was only $45. I will definitely be back for the chicken curry and a pho.
Albino Diner
Viet for unadventurous white people. King street evolving nicely, and this place is very cute, friendly staff, nice vibe. Food presented very quickly. Too quickly? Crab spring rolls tasted only of fish and oil, my noodle dish had a tablespoon (if lucky) of Vietnamese mint. I'd rather go somewhere with tacky laminex and terrible lighting for cheap, big flavors viet food.

Came here multiple times and always be amazed by the food their! We got crispy pork dishes on friday and they were DOPE!!! Quite unfortunate that crispy pork only available on Friday only!
Definitely give credits to the buns and the "taco" buns their.
U can see the staffs have a great vibe to each other and they bring the good vibe to the restaurent!

Totally worth to try!!!

Love the lunch set menus. You get a little of everything and it is very filling! Admittedly if you don’t have a long time to wait during your lunch break, it can take a little wait, but the food is reasonably priced, clean and fresh!

King st fast becoming one of our favourite streets for food. We tried out this vietnamese place and was very happy with the food we orderd. The salad was fresh and the chicken had alot of flavour. We recommend the spring rolls , very tasty👌👌👌. Service was great and the feel was new a inviting.

Found another great place nearby for Vietnamese food, great ambience and very attentive staff. Disappointed that I missed out on the coconut jelly again because it was sold out but now I have another excuse to come back...soon. Loved the imperial spring rolls served with lettuce and sweet chilli sauce and of course, you can't have Vietnamese food without a hot bowl of Pho!

If I could give this restaurant a 10 stars I would. Love the ambience, love the food 👌🏼💯 Totally recommended. One of the best Viet restaurants in Brisbane.

Yum! visited recently with a friend and we loved it. The ordering system is great, and their menu has so many options! although I wish they had rice vermicelli so more of their soups were gluten free. We had a little stuff up with the payment but they were more than happy to amend it and I cant wait to go back

Came here on a Friday and had their Cao Lau noodle dish with the crispy pork special. The pork melted in my mouth and omg that crispy, salty crackle... I seriously DREAM ABOUT IT every 2 days. My friend had the Bun Bo Hue (noodle soup) which I tried and it tasted just like how my mum would make it with the fragrant pineapple. It's real homestyle cooking. The homemade springrolls and wontons were also tasty AF. Good variety of drinks incl. kumquat lemonade, Viet coffee, craft beer and boutique wines. Service was efficient and friendly, food portion generous, menu prices very reasonable. My new favourite traditional Vietnamese go to!

We came here on a Friday night with no booking but staff were happy to accommodate us (2 ppl). The ordering concept at Banoi reminds me of Papparich where you write down your order on a paper slip and a waiter/waitress comes and picks it up – minus the bell. Staff explained the concept if you weren’t familiar with it. We started off with prawn rice paper rolls and soft shell crab Asian tacos (fancy name for baos) and for mains Beef Pho (with extra beef brisket and meat balls because when I order Pho, I order it with everything) and Chicken yellow curry. The curry was the only dish that stood out for its depth of flavor and portion size (mind you the beef pho was huge). The curry was spicy and well balanced and well cooked chicken. The prawn rice paper rolls, note is not the actual prawn itself (the ones you commonly see), it’s prawn and taro fritter (they do mention this on the menu but we assumed something else). The rice paper rolls are quite thick, mostly due to the copious amounts of vermicelli noodles and lettuce (a little off-putting with the brown colour). The portion of the fritter was small and it would have been great if there was more prawn and herbs. Soft shell crab baos tasted fishy and we were not impressed. The ones at Junk Boat in Southbank are much better. The Beef Pho was disappointing as it lacked depth of flavor that one would expect in a master stock – I tried to add all the condiments that were on the table to add flavor – chili and hoisin sauce but no luck. The meat in the Pho was great though.

Banoi is good!
Visting Brissy from Melbourne, we had heard of Banoi and thought we would check it out. Was not disappointed.

In a really cool part of Brissy newly built, Banoi is located along a strip of great eateries ranging from dumplings to burgers (will try them next time!) we kept it simple for lunch and had the Spicy Fish Rice Paper Rolls, the Bún bò Huế (YUM!) and the Vietnamese Chicken Salad - all Delicious, fresh and bursting with flavour - as any good Vietnamese should be.

Check it out!
