Review The Polish Club - Brisbane

Delicious Polish meals at a reasonable price. The service is friendly and obliging. On offer are a range of Polish beers and spirits. If you want something different to Asian and Indian, this is the place to come. Well worth it.

The place is truly fantastic. Food exactly like my grandma’s (I’m Polish) & desert same as my mum’s. The place is neat and colourful with heaps of interesting stuff that would certainly help getting familiar with PL culture & heritage. The service is fast and flawless, the staff is so nice and friendly. It totally feels like home. It’s a yes from me, 10/10. Fantastyczne miejsce z najpyszniejszym jedzeniem, wspaniałą obsługą i pięknym polskim wystrojem. Serdecznie polecam każdemu :)

We made a booking for last Sat night Obertas for 16 people. We were squashed in on one table. No room to move. The kids from the dance group took over our other table that was booked for us. The dance group was lovely but it then turned into something like a year 12 formal!!! Some of the kids drank too much acting like they had no regard for anyone else. If we knew it was going to be a night just for teenages we would not have booked. My adult children are half Polish so I wanted them to enjoy some of the Polish culture. We left earlier than we hoped we would.

Great food with a nice quiet dining area. Best place in Brisbane if you want to try some of the best vodka out there.

Excellent food. Supporting the club as it's worth it just to have some yummy Polish tucker. Very reasonably priced go and try it out.

Great place for lunch. Does not have exciting decor but who cares if good Polish food is what you are after.. Amazing menu. Service excellent they really try to please. Give it a try if you want something different. The potato pancakes are terrific

The restaurant has finally been updated and the decor refreshed. Still needs a bit of work but it's getting there. Some of the foods have dropped slightly in quality but the traditional Polish dishes are still good. The one thing that stands out is the bar and it's selection of beers and vodka. If you haven't had Polish food before I would highly recommend this place.

I wanted some European food and I found this Polish Club and really have to say, it tasted how it should, I come from Czech Republic so I know these foods and must say that this place has one of the best foods in Brisbane. I ordered a tripe soup and beef goulash and it was perfect. Went with my partner and another couple and everyone was very satisfied. Will definitely come again.

Good old Polish Club brings back memories when I was a freshman straight outta Uni. I remember their $10 lunch specials accompanied me through the good, bad and terrible days at work. 10 years later, with myself chubbier, poorer (my Mrs like shoes…) & not really wiser, I decided to revisit this special place. From the outside, the Polish club blends nicely with the surrounding office blocks and can be easily missed by newcomers. Its only when you look closer you will realize the club logo & coat of arms.

We were there for Friday lunch and ordered: Flaki (tripe soup), polish cabbage roll, beef goulash, polish meat dumplings & pork schnitzel. With a Zywiec beer in hand, I started to absorb the surroundings and relive the memories. The restaurant setting and layout can only be described as plain, simple (not in a trendy way) and clean. To some extent, the restaurant has a vibe which resembles a “communist workers club” and can feel depressing at times.

With myself settling in, the tripe soup arrived. The Polish Flaki soup is a very traditional dish consisting mainly cow tripe, mixed vegetables in a clear broth. The generous serving size have decent amount of ingredients and presents an oily film on top. The soup is on the gamy side with a strong tripe taste with a hint of veggies & pepper. Dip a piece of rye bread into the broth & your palate will be taken to East Europe. 4/5

Second to arrive was the beef goulash served with gnocchi & green salad. First taste of this dish and you will be disappointed by the salty flavourless goulash and the tough diced beef. The goulash had an old/left in the fridge for too long taste. The gnocchi was soggy and chewy which suggest pre-packaged. With only half the plate finished this was definitely a disappointment. 2/5

The Polish cabbage roll Golabki, stuffed with minced pork, rice and topped with tomato based sauce made a swift appearance. The generous portion consist two large cabbage rolls with a side of rye bread. The taste of the filling was porky with a hint of garlic, onion & mixed spice. The cabbage was cooked nice and soft with the tomato sauce mild and sweet. A minor letdown was the lack of seasoning with the filling. 3.5/5

Fourth dish of the meal: Pierogi meat dumplings. The well-presented Polish dumplings were boiled till cooked and topped with fried onions. First bite and you will be overwhelmed by the onion taste followed by hints of meat and doughy flavours. The dumpling’s pork filling was on the dry side and lack seasoning. The dumpling skin was chewy but too thick from my opinion. 3/5

Pork schnitzel with chips and pickled cabbage was the last dish to arrive. The pork & chicken schnitzel was my fav $10 lunch back in the day. We got a massive near plate sized pork schnitzel fried till golden. The meat was soft, tender & flavourful with an almost crunchy outer crust. The pickled cabbage balances out the oily schnitzel and leaves the palate quite clean. It’s hard not to have a smile when eating this dish. Bravo! 5/5

Overall service was very friendly with the staff keen to explain menu items and make suggestions. Kid’s cutleries were not available but did offer entrée size fork & spoon for the young one. 4/5

With lunch sorted, it’s time to head down stairs to the main event: Polish Market Day. The small market is situated inside the main hall with only a handful of vendors selling traditional Polish sweets and groceries. What people were really there for is the cured meat and sausages. I quickly lined up in front of the roller shutter window (reminded me of primary school tuckshop days…) & waited patiently with a Polish doughnut in my hand (pigged out!). What I notice were everyone in line was chatting in Polish (a very good sign!). 30min later, the store opened & my eyes sparkled! All sorts of East European cured and wonderfully smoked meat presented in plastic storage containers with ladies in white lab coat serving the goods. Kid in a wonderland I was & went nuts with over 5kg worth of purchases. All the smoked meats were amazing and you will struggle to find them in any Brisbane deli especially at their low price!

Hint: They serve special menu items such as pork knuckle every Friday dinner only. Their schnitzel (not $10 anymore) and specialty beers from Poland is worth a try. Market day is normally every second Fridays but do check their website to confirm.

Now this place is interesting. It's like the German club 20 years ago without the band and back room.

Food is pretty much the same- I had fish and chips which were really cheap, kind of cheap tasting but I think it was under ten bucks. Everyone else got the meaty dishes and loved them.

They also do great vodka. They kind of payed us out (in a good jokey way) for getting shots of vodka and shotting rather than sipping. The staff were really cool.

It had a friendly vibe- like most people were regulars. It's close to me, I had a genuinely good time but I also had great company. Make sure you have great company.

Easily the best Polish food in Milton and possibly the entire inner West.

No frills decor but the best cheesy sausages and other tasty treats to satisfy anyone who enjoys fine Eastern European fare.

$12 later and I wish i was Polish.. Ok, so let me start by staying I believe i have a decent size appetite and can put away a fair amount of food. Well, the Polish Club sure as hell slapped me down and put me back in my place (all be it a very delighted, satisfied place). My girlfriend and I use to small $16 share plates at fancy bars order 4 $12 plates here and I will now breakdown what fuzzy memories I’m left with post food coma. Pierogis stuffed with potato and ricotta are just delicate (Polish and delicate, weird right!) clouds of bliss. This sauerkraut and kransky tomato bowl thing was just intense and i mean good but it picked a fight with me that I’m calling a draw, it might have other ideas. I'm not sure what i can stay about the cabbage rolls that they can't stay for themselves. It's cabbage and pork with rice and sauce, none of this a bad thing and I’ve always felt cabbage doesn't get enough love. But the cowboy in this story that waltzes into the room like he owns the place is the Tripe Soup. This thing is a power house of pepper and majesty. Forget what it is just get into and thank yourself for pushing your boundaries.

I tried a few beers too but I literally have no idea what they are called/what i was ordering but they were all good..

The staff are very friendly and I love the reasonably priced polish beers and as very tasty. $7.50 for 500ml bottle of Zyweic. I love their peirogies with salad, meatballs with dill sauce, stuffed cabbage rolls with tomato sauce and to my surprise I like the tripe soup! And their small pork knuckle was rather big, (which I am not complaining about) served with their hunters stew mmm.. Very flavorful traditional polish dishes! I keep going back.

Pork knuckle was very disappointing. Goulash was good .

Zoooom. Pork knuckle, that is all.

I cannot rate this place enough. The prices are very reasonable (between 10 and 17 for most dishes) and the beers are also top notch and very reasonably priced (delicious 600ml imported beers for $7 - however watch out because the alcoholic percentage is quite high). So far I have tried the pork knuckle, the cabbage rolls, the meat dumplings and the pork rolls with gnocci. The pork knuckle is undoubtedly the best, however is only served on a Friday night. Much better than the German club, less expensive and cooked really well with a decent amount of saurkraut (also better than the German club). The cabbage rolls were also delicious, as were the dumplings and the pork rolls, only let down was the gnocci. The gnocci could have been improved with a little bit of sauce. Although the food seems simple, the flavours are done really well and for the price its even better. Whilst the menu isnt huge, I already have my favorites and look forward to going again. The decor inside is really simple, much like a cafeteria/hall however I appreciate that sometimes after the gaudy interior of alot of other restaurants. Highly recommended.

Delicious Food. Went with members of a Probus Club and all of us really enjoyed the wonderful food we had. The manager kindly pandered to our curiosity by serving a variety of the Polish food as a buffet so that we could sample many different dishes. Everybody raved about the food and I noticed that the beer was very popular also :-). For $20 we had what amounted to a 3 course meal.

There were other people there eating more the normal cafe food and I noted that theirs was nicely presented with big servings.

I highly recommend this restaurant and complement the staff who did such a great job even though they were short staffed that day.

I like polish beers! It comes in 500 ml bottle.

This used to be a typical polish club with a variety of meals. Now there's only minimal polish food and a few polish beers. Disappointing.
A Matter Of Taste
Some familiar Polish flavours were a sure thing to make me feel much better. Pierogi (stuffed with ricotta and potatoes) and a bottle of beer (Pszeniczniak – not only delicious beer but also pretty bottle).

Polonia, is a Polish Club over at Milton and has a Polish restaurant and a friend of mine recommended to go there, so we went as a group.. The place as a first impression, I didn't think it was a restaurant feeling as it was just a normal building at the front.. but we did come at night, so it was dark everywhere.. However, the inside was just average, just wooden seats and tables everywhere and there was a cupboard full of polish stuff in it.. Going to a Polish restaurant without drinking their local polish beers is a NO for all of us hahah... so we all got beers.. polish beers.. First dish came out and one of my friend had ordered their "Traditional Tripe Soup (Flaczki)" which was served with rye bread. My friend said it was alright but it was nothing special .. Second dish that came out was the "Cabbage Rolls" ... I think it was the name that made my friend want to try it.. it was cabbage leaves stuffed with rice and beef along with tasty tomato sauce
