Review Just Soy Cafe - Brisbane

Winston Wong
Have been to the shop numerous times in the past and those visits have mostly been pretty good Haven't been in the last few years though so I'm not sure what it's like these days. But did get gifted some bulk soy custard from here by a friend, and it was happily consumed over a few days. We had a 2L tub along with bunch of generously sized trimmings. I believe it's best to call ahead to reserve if you're wanting to purchase the tubs, as they can sell out.

Due to covid restrictions, only take-aways. Orders were fast. Good selection of Asian style dessert. Build your own combo. Caramel pudding for the not-so-Asian followers. Sour green Apple jelly is refreshing after a heavy/fatty meal. Perhaps the crushed ice could be more refined to give a smother texture ( see 2nd picture)

Try hot grass jelly the first time. $5.95 but taste likes syrups with few peanuts, not worth buying

Very big range of desserts and drinks. Love the sponge cake dessert with sesame ice cream. Seating might be a bit cramped for large crowds but the menu is great.

I used to like this shop just because it's the only store that sells decent soy bean dessert in Brisbane. However I was very disappointed by the recent visit. We ordered a hot sesame dessert here. When we first got it, it was cold, not even room temperature. The dessert itself looks ultra viscous as you could see in the photo. It's so viscous that we almost thought we could walk on it like Jesus. I think every restaurant has its "no go" dish(s), and this is definitely one of them here at Just Soy Cafe.

Good serving size, taste is honestly average. The other mixed frappe was given the wrong gradients. Staff were simply not friendly. Probably just unhappy working here.

Lucky we don’t live close if not I’d be there all the time. And if it’s a question as to how good? We’ll let’s just say I always buy 2kg takeaway dessert after being there so the dessert dream doesn’t end too quickly. Their toppings are always great and they give you heaps. Like I said lucky we live not close by…especially for my waist line.
Mr R
Bought 2 x 1kg Soy Custard. Went home weight it and they were 890g and 900g. I called up the shop and ask them. They told me 1kg is including the sugar syrup. I am ok with that. But I told them they should have indicate that 1kg is Soy custard including the sugar syrup. I did not ask for compensation, all I am asking is for them to label it correctly so I know what I am getting. Food quality is good, I have nothing to complain about. Just how they dealt with this situation made me really frustrated. Especially when they said you are the only customer complain about this for the last few years. Yes 100g is not a big deal, but as a consumer I have every right to see the correct labeling.

Simple yet delicious desserts. Love the three brothers milk tea

Went here for dessert last night. Had the green tea and red been frappe with some jelly things. I have been emptying my bowels the whole day today. Maybe over 12 times already? My wife and I have sharing all our meals the last four days, except for last night. I'm the only one who's got diarrhoea. Ironically, I actually love this place and have been multiple times. Had a funny feeling when I saw one of the workers last night with messy hair prepare food. SHould have followed my gut. Now i'm suffering. Won't be coming back.

We visit this Asian Dessert Parlour after our Korean BBQ dinner. We manage to park our car and l get a vacant table before the crowds arrived 10 minutes later. Happy Days! We order our favourite 8 Treasure Frappe to share. It is delicious and refreshing!

With... Phuong Tran

Checked out this dessert place with my guests after our dinner at the Sri Mahkota Malaysian restaurant.
We play it safe to have their signature soy custard with different combinations including Soy custard with red bean, Soy custard with grass jelly and also Soy custard with Matcha.
The silky soy custard really satisfied my guests’ sweet teeth. We are proud to have such a local Taiwanese dessert bar👍

Previous visits: Oct 2018. 3/5; Aug 2018 4/5

Wow, after a night of cockroaches and terrible restaurants I knew I could rely on this place to lift me out of the depths of despair. I ordered a soy custard with a few toppings and boy oh boy! 😍😭❤️ Nothing short of amazing! Will be back time after time!

Quick, affordable and delicious. They’re doing a great job and I can’t wait to return.
Always a delightful experience to visit. Each time I visit I try a new thing on the menu, it never disappoints! I was super happy with what I ordered this time, it's been the best dessert I've had from there yet. The mung beans were perfectly tend and delicious, which elevated the flavour of the dish.

Tonight my siblings, cousins and i went to just soy since we used to come here. It’s been two years since then. We were not happy with the service. One was when my sister did not receive the correct change, tried correcting them and they corrected her with explaining the math wrong. My cousin, sister and I bought the same drink which was taro milk tea with mini pearls. Instead, we received 3 completely different drinks. My cousin got taro milk tea with normal pearls, I got the correct drink and my sister received normal milk tea with mini pearls. We were too embarrassed to try to tell them about it since we caused a minor commotion within the small store from the incorrect change. I guess next time if anyone wants to check this store out, please make sure you double-check on your order and received the correct change if paying by cash... Or just pay by card instead, lol.

The look of tge restaurant doesnt look very nice like all the other bubble tea place but this is also a tradition and feeling bought from china. Really impressed with the soy product here. Fresh and sweet.
Aggiebibi
Soy custard is so smooth!!!!! Parents love it! A mandatory dessert place after dinner in Sunnybank! Their three layers ice tea is really good too!! Gonna try their fresh taro milk tea next time!
Foo6
If you love tofu then you need to try this place. The items on the menu are simply refreshing and light. Beside the tofu I also usually have the super three brothers milk tea... It's so good! Bubble tea lovers need to try this!... The quality of this place has always stayed the same in the years I've visited.

Been here once to try it out and always see it pretty busy during the nighttime. I was a disappointed at the lack of hospitality the workers had, they looked like they didn’t want to be there. The soy custard was just a really bland Filipino dish called taho. It also didn’t mix well with the matcha ice cream. The drinks there was a unique combination and was good but nothing too mindblowing. I wouldn’t come back though.
Patricia
Best soy custard!! It is so incredibly smooth and silky. I have relatives who live interstate that will insist on visiting this place every time they are in Bris for a holiday. We usually takeaway the 2kg tub of soy custard and the caramel egg puddings.
Vina
Finally I’d got a chance to try this dessert. I was surprised by the place. There wasnt many seats. I can’t imagine how crowded it will be because I guess this place is very popular. I had bean curd with fungus and goji berry. Healthy combination. The fungus itself was already sweet therefore I didnt put the raw sugar syrup too much. It was tasty. The custard was so soft. My recommendation is to have it at home and add a bit of ginger extract.
@lydiaeatsbrisbane
Definitely one of my favourite locations for soy custard dessert. Just Soy Cafe is always bustling with people and certainly doesn't have enough seats for the amount of people trying to visit. This place serves up delicious soy custard - smooth, silky and not too sweet! My favourite is the soy custard with tapioca pearls; unfortunately for me this must also be a favourite as often times when I visit, this combination is sold out. My next favourite to order is the soy custard with herb grass jelly. These toppings add a fantastic texture to the silky smooth dessert.
Kat
Best known for their soy custards. The soy custard is so smooth and delicious and exactly the same as what we had in Hong Kong. We often order it with a combination of toppings and it is always fresh and reasonably priced. Pictured is the rainbow jelly, mini pearls and egg pudding. The service is very friendly but place is quite small so can get crowded at times. Highly recommended!
Obsessedwithfood
Very fluffy, light and delicious. 10/10 - cleanliness, 10/10 - service, 10/10 - good for value. I would highly recommend anyone who is in the area or close to the area to try any of these desserts. Ice cream was also very nice and didn’t have the sandy cheap taste, it was creamy.
Jeni Ku
I’ve been coming here for silken tofu desserts for years! It does the best silken tofu in Brisbane - it is exquisitely smooth and fresh. The sugar sauce used to flavour it is yummy. Make sure you come before 8.30pm or you will be lining up for s while before you get your order or a table as it can get busy and seating is limited.
Angela
Everything was so delicious! We got the soy custard with sesame soup and also green tea ice cream. The service was also really quick despite the busyness 😊
Jenna Saluja
Their soy custard is definitely good 10/10! Other ones in the menu, it's okay 5/10. Customer service though needs improving... some of the workers are friendly, but some seriously needs to get terminated.
S.K
Not a fan of soy custard but love their shaved ice all the time. Haven't been here for a long time but tonight it's satisfying as usual. The service was minimised but quick as well as considerate because we only ordered two dishes and planned to share by four people and the server sent our order with four spoons without telling.
Mai Hoang
One of the best dessert places around. Always come here when I'm craving something fresh, light, satisfying and sweet. The variety is amazing. It gets pretty cramped and busy at night, especially the weekend so takeaway is always an option, which I've done and it still tastes as good after travelling. Super recommend. Cash only btw.
Tinmans Treats
This soy themed dessert spot has been around for at least 10 years. It's very no frills, you can eat in or take away. People seem to sit here with their friends for a chat and a snack. If you're not accustomed to Asian flavours then this might be a bit confronting to navigate through their extensive menu and possible combinations. It's a gift and a curse to have so much choice.

I got the soy custard and black sesame with egg pudding, jelly and taro as my toppings. Serving size was huge. The dessert itself was refreshing and I surprised myself by eating the whole lot. If you want something not overly sweet, and you can mix and match what you want then you should definitely have a try. When you're only paying around $5-$7 for a dessert here, it's definitely worth a try and I'll be back. 7/10.
Elle
I came here twice recently to try out a couple of the soy custard series. I really liked the ones with the original flavour and black sesame, and am definitely keen to give the others a go soon! The service was really quick and there are a few seats available inside. Overall, can't fault anything. Highly recommended.
Tomcat
Just Soy is a dessert shop specializes in soy custard. The Taiwanese owned and operated establishment has been a Tomcat family fav for many years and attracted a following nationwide. Just Soy offers a large variety of toppings, with Taiwanese traditional: green mung bean, red kidney bean, tapioca and boiled sweetened peanuts being the most popular. I was there for weekday post dinner and ordered a duel flavoured soy custard ($4.75).

My order arrived within 5min and contains cold soy custard topped with sweetened green mung bean paste, sweet boiled peanuts and a dash of sugar syrup. The soy custard was cold and refreshing with hints of soy flavours. The custard was soft, delicate and presents a near luxurious mouthfeel. Paired with the sweet (but not overpowering) toppings one’s palate was taken to Taiwan street markets. Bravo! 4/5

The custard here was made less intensive in soy flavour, deliberately. During hot summer days, I find myself craving the refreshing more than the lingering soy taste from traditional offerings. To achieve the refreshing taste is a trade secret closely guarded by the owner.

Hint: Other offerings such as herb grass jelly, shaved ice and specialty drinks sampled so far is an average 3.5/5.

It's 9:15pm and I'm making my way to Just Soy Cafe to satisfy my Soy Custard cravings 🙌🏻

At Just Soy Cafe, you are offered with their well-known variety of Soy Custards. Besides the custard itself, you are also introduced to toppings (which you are more than welcome to add): Pearl balls, Fruits, Red Beans or Beans, Nuts, Ice cream and much more. If you aren't the custard type, they got you covered for Frappes, Herbal Jellies, Milk Teas and Teas. I've been here several times and have always went with the Soy Custard with Red Bean and Green Tea Ice Cream!!

The portion is not bad for the price. The custard is always really smooth and the sweetness of the syrup is just right :) Always an enjoyable treat!!

Staff are friendly and service is quick here!!

So I've been craving Plum Black Tea for ages and last time I've seen it on the menu at Excellent Cup but they never have it and finally I've found it at Just Soy Cafe and it is sold at $3.80 for a large cup😋. The drink itself wasn't too sweet but it isn't as sour as I like it to be and they also don't have personalised sugar and ice levels but overall a pretty good drink to satisfy my plum drink craving😋, I would love to give the actual dessert a go next time^^
🍴
Been here twice, average both times. The first time got milk tea with grass jelly and vanilla ice cream. The grass jelly was quite tasteless, in cubes and more solid in comparison to other places (e.g. Meet fresh, easy way). The ice cream was icy and tea very average. The second time got "maccha" green tea with adzuki beans and green tea ice cream. The tea tasted like jasmine green tea mixed with milk, not like matcha at all. As the prices are very cheap in comparison to most other places, you get what you pay for so can't really complain. Though I like that they used blended ice in both drinks so it's easy to drink the tea/ice cream/toppings together without having ice cubes in the way.

I always bring visitors from outside Brisbane here. It's known for its soy custard. I also enjoy the black sesame soup here too. Really good. My favorite toppings are matcha syrup, shiratamako dough or if they have it, sweet potato balls (they always seem to run out of one of them)

My husband loves the shave ice desserts here. Popular with young people.

Remember to ask them to warm it for you if you don't like your soy custard or black sesame soup cold which is how it's served by default.

Quality seems to be getting lower. Not sure if it's a change in management or just simply change in direction of the business. About a year ago they were still good.

Just Soy Cafe serves a variety of Asian desserts - soy custard, pearl barley, grass jelly and shaved ice (frappe). We loved the super fruit frappe but were disappointed with our soy custard. The texture was good but it tasted and looked very watery - as though it had been made with watered down soy milk. We've had much better soy custard at some of the yum cha restaurants around Brisbane.

I came here after a big dinner at ye dang for a light dessert and ordered a super three brother milk tea and soy custard with green tea ice cream (with extra herbal jelly).

I didnt expect much seeing the simplicity of the place but i was actually pleasantly surprised ! I really enjoyed both of my desserts which were light and fresh. They came out very quick too.

Neither were too sweet or too bland for me, i really liked what i ordered , they were very tasty ! Also, they claim that the soy custards are preservative and artificial colour free which is always a plus !

Will be back again to try the frappes (kind of looked like bing soo!)

Found this little dessert gem in Sunnybank hills. Its a small shop but MAN!! do they make an excellent varieties of soy bean desserts and more. I think I found another fav place to go for desserts next time I head up to Sunnybank! 🌟Soy bean+ red bean+ matcha syrup and condenced milk.
🌟Matcha icecream+ redbean & mochi (Usually its original mochi but they ran out of stock so they gave me the taro mochi instead) "白玉子+紅豆+綠茶冰其林"

Love the tofu desert here! In the past they always used to run out of pearls! The syrup isn't overly sweet as well which is great. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone who is in the mood for some tofu desert!
Kee
Not a big fan of soy custard and herbal grass jelly but they were quite nice and not too sweet. The tapioca pearls and egg puddings were nice too. Our frustration came when what we ordered were not available, and it had happened a few times. The shop was very tiny and nothing was fancy.
Itsyenyabish
If you love herbal jelly, pearls, egg pudding and milk tea, you need to try 3 super brothers drink, combo is bomb. This place also serves great tofu and grass jelly desserts!
Kan Do
I don't like tofu much, but there are the occasional times when it can appeal to me (e.g. in a nice mapo dofu). I usually only go to Just Soy with friends due to my lack of fondness for tofu. The desserts here are quite nice and not overly sweet which I like.
Tucked into the corner of Calam Rd and Lear St, facing the Sunnybank Hills shopping centre it is a non-descript little store located in a very convenient location.

Tried the soy custard with taro, matcha ice cream and egg pudding. The egg pudding tasted weird, but the soy custard, taro and matcha ice cream was amazing! I would love to come back!
Simon
Their soy actually not that good ...soy bean flavor not strong enough ....i believe slightly overeating ! Wish they will improve in the future
Cruise
Treats here are absolutely delicious. I've had the tofu pudding and ice creams here - both very nice. Tastes amazing. Tofu pudding is super smooth just like the ones overseas :) highly recommended.

good desert but very rude service. no high chair for babies, when we asked for a high chair, the lady face was like "of course we don't have a high chair stupid". No sorry or thank you as well.

Just Soy Cafe is a wonderful dessert experience and is the "real deal". Devoid of the pomp and fad driven trends it's has awful lighting, no nonsense decor and service with an apathy that is driven by not trying to be "cool" they genuinely must be tired of serving people because it is probably the busiest desert shop I've ever been to. Friday and Saturday nights it's standing room only past about 6pm.

The selection of Taiwanese deserts is awesome, delicious, fast and cheap. It's truly one of the "real" Asian dessert cafe's in Brisbane.
Sabrina
Nice place for dessert. Like the grass jelly especially and usually get the bucket! Desserts are quite nice as well, like the combo of different ingredients as well
Gouteur
A good place to eat but the staff is sometimes rude and impatient. Place always runout of pearls or other ingredients. Wouldnt recommend coming here on weekends.
Betty & Jason
Big fan of this sim place dessert cafe. Great value for money with traditional Asian flavours. Would definitely recommend 'THE THREE BROTHERS' drink and the green tea ice cream! Lost some points since finding a seat is so hard!
MsK
A great dessert place to go if you're craving tofu or shaved ice with different toppings. They also sell milk tea but have never tried it. Can get takeaway if there's no seating. Service is quick too.
Peter Hsieh
Lovely place to grab a lite dessert. Service is average. The soy jelly is firm and light with a topping of your choice for $4.35 (21/08/15). A little expensive but some other items on the menu have better value.

A nice place for a quick catchup.
Owen
Had a red bean and mocha source soy custard, the taste was quite average. The soy custard is bland, and I personally prefer it got stronger soy flavor. The mocha source do meet my requirement; bitter at the start and sweet at the end, but it will be better if they could make it thicker to let it stick with the soy custard more easily. Red Bean was fine, but a bit too sweet for me.

Overall it is still a good choice of dessert in the region but would be much better if they could focus on the details of the food.
Foodie
The restaurant is very busy and the line reaches the door most of time. They have a huge variety of desserts all around $5 (generous serving size too). Also the bubble tea is very cheap ($3) compared to most places. Would recommend for those on a budget!
Linh Nguyen
Just the best greentea ever! Enough said. The greentea flavour is strong and perfectly sweet. Not overpowering the greentea flavour. A greentea fanatic so I really recommend this place!!

BEST SOY CUSTARD IN BRISBANE. Im just sad they dont open on Tuesday because i get crazy cravings for it almost every Tuesday. But also randomly throughout the week. Their fruit tasted a bit off the first time i had it but i gave it another go- still the same. So i just stick to my usual soy custard with mini pearls & sometimes i get matcha syrup hehe
Henryryry
Food is excellent but below par service. I have been coming here for years because the deserts are always delicious and the staff friendly. However, in recent times, I have noticed that the service has been poor. This week, I had an encounter with a staff member who was rude to the point that I thought about walking out during an order. Not coming back here again...
The Invisible Food Critic
Like it? Yes & No... Some desserts were too simple (not good) and some surprised us (in a good way). Good to see it still open till late, great place to drop by after dinner or takeaway and enjoy at home. Many varieties to choose from at affordable prices. I rate it 5/10

Best soy dessert in brisbane. This is by far the best soy tofu? in Brisbane. As the name implies it specialises in soy tofu desserts. Most fresh soy custard (tofu) you will find in brisbane. so good! we usually get the 2kg tub if we can as there are plenty of servings for the whole family and left overs for the next day. win win in my opinion

Meh. Is okay

Favourite Dessert. I love this place because it serves my favourite desserts that I will never get bored of (soy custard and herbal jelly). It can get quite busy here; there is often a line out the door. However, turnover of customers is pretty quick, and it's always worth the wait.
Samanthaooi_1510
Soy Custard and with Green Tea Syrup. Green tea flavour is so strong!
The Devourer Of Food
Yet another dodgy vegetarian thing that is against my core belief. Damn you Satan for making out so tasty. Damn those smooth soy curds with their sweet sweet sugar syrup ...
Silvercat
Favourite :). Everything is so yummy and delicious there - especially soy custard and grass jelly is MUST try!! :) I love three brother tea :) Very filling.

Very very disappointed with the service. The girl at the cashier was very rude and disrespectful. She got so grumpy when she thought she got "accused" for getting the wrong order when I actually misheard her heavy Taiwanese accent. "I didn't even charge you for that.." Whispering to herself, grumpily. I offered to pay for another bowl and she just gave me THAT look and asked "do you still want that or not?!" Referring to the previous "wrong order". To the girl at the cashier, sorry for not being able to understand your mandarin, I'll learn to be like a native before entering your store.
Allison Chang
One that I will always go back to. Refreshing, guilt free, next door snack bar atmosphere
JV
Cant go wrong with soy custard. Huge menu with heaps of toppings and desserts to choose from. Definitely need to go early if you want rice, matcha, taro or sweet potato ball toppings as they sell out fast and it gets packed later into the night! Highly recommended!

Great!. I LOVE Just Soy Cafe. It is a convenient location, Sunnybank Hills so is only 10mins from the busy Sunnybank hub. Late trading times makes this a great place to catch up with friends over some soy custard or grass jelly. They also offer tea-infused egg, which as weird as it sounds, tastes pretty good!
I love the fact you can order a base, such as grass jelly then add 'toppings' like coconut jelly, taro balls, nuts or whatever your fancy. Definitely recommend.
Angela Ostermann
Best soy custard in town!. Very authentic soy custard, taste just like the ones in Taiwan ! Loved the taro balls and matcha rice balls. The only bad thing is they close very early!
Ben Chickens
I drive across town for the soy custard. Having tried a few others, this is easily the best in terms of consistency and authenticity. My favourite is plain with sugar syrup but green tea syrup is worth trying too.
Captainshaft
Genuine Taiwanese 豆花! You won't get it the same quality anywhere else. Best in class in Brisbane.

Mediocre?. To whom it may concern, how about you recommend a place that makes better soy custard and herbal jelly, or even better...I'd like to see you do a better version then what these guys are churning out?

Mediocre is when some so-called dessert cafes closer to the inner city area decide to charge $12 bucks and above for a fancily plated, overly sweet morsel.
Lookabookworm
So-so. I had the soy custard with pearls (take-away, because they were closing up!).

It was interesting. Perhaps an acquired taste. My friends are regulars to this establishment and they mostly enjoyed their desserts.

I did try also some black sesame ice cream...delicious!

Perhaps if I were to go back, I would go for that dish!
Jazc
Mediocre dessert place. Doable if you're around the area and in need of some cheap sweets. If you have a vegan companion, make sure you check with the staff what you're ordering is actually 'just soy' as many items do have dairy in them.
L0ve2eat
Soy Custard. Delicious soy custard desserts and at only $3.30, you can't go wrong.
Foodiary88
Not the biggest herb grass jelly fan, I preferred my soy custard.
ThatSeriousGirl
The creme caramels here are absolutely delicious, and I'm not even a fan, smooth, slightly sweet, with a sultry wobble and oozy caramel sauce.
Christina Ooi
I loved mine as it satisfied me with just about the right dose of sweetness in it, while Mr. Choo said his was too sweet. Tofu was soft, smooth and silky that melts in your mouth.

Just Soy is another one of our dessert haunts and we have been here countless number of times... Now that we are in the heat of summer, a cool ice dessert is always ideal! But one mustn't forget their specialty soy custard (tofu)that comes with an assortment of toppings. These are two of our many favourites (ha!), the soy custard with matcha syrup and an ice shaving with 3 toppings of choice; taro balls, green beans and fruit pieces were chosen this round. The soy custard here is light, smooth and has a near jelly-like consistency. There really is a distinct difference among the other soy cafes around Sunnybank and it is really up to individual preference as to which cafe has the "best" soy. The matcha syrup is only available at Just Soy and is a good match with adzuki beans. The ice shaving here is a little coarse but that didn't matter too much after a thorough stir. The amalgamation of ice, light syrup, condensed milk and toppings really makes for one Sssaa-weet summer quencher! The

Tau Foo Fah or Soy Beancurd is not like any normal dessert out there, it has a little story behind it (although that being said, i might have repeated this story a fair few times). This dessert is one of the Wife's favourite and i remember back in the university days, that meant walking to Chinatown after university to take away this dessert before heading back home. So it was just a matter of time before she requested she wanted some and hold and behold, my dear friend, the one all crazy about sweets, kne
