I came here because I was craving for Baumkuchen. It was pretty early for dinner so we enjoyed the quietness. The menu did not contain any pictures so we had no idea how big the portion would be. A friend and I ordered gyoza, soba, mix mushrooms and grilled salmon. The waiter came with huge plates every time :) especially the grilled salmon, wait, three big slices of salmon I meant. We were really full even before we ordered the dessert. But Baumkuchen was the very first reason why we were there, so I ordered it anyway. And voila, only a few minutes later, a huge plate of Baumkuchen with two scoops of ice cream was served on our table. It was delish and maybe it would be a lot more enjoyable had I not eaten so much before :))
Really good bbq buffet!!! The premium buffet has so much variety with sashimi, sushi, noodles and great cuts of wagyu. The only issue I had was the service was very slow even though there were only 3 other tables that night. I’m not sure if they did that deliberately so that we ate less? Anyway, the food was nice and fresh. Lovely, spacious atmosphere. They validate parking as well!
Fantastic japanese restaurant with a great value hidden in Fortitude Valley! For only $59 (premium buffet) - you can enjoy premium products (sashimi/prawns/scallops/wagyu steak + vegetable, dumplings and more)! The experience is quite enjoyable as their are unique dining booths both inside and out and you get to cook your own meats to your liking! The staff were friendly, the ambience was nice (in both quiet and peak periods) and they also had a great range of drinks available. Would definitely recommend and would definitely go back!
My favourite Japanese restaurant in Brisbane! These guys can do no wrong. Everything from the BBQ buffet to a take away lunch, the food is always perfect. This is my go to weekday work lunch. Absolutely will keep coming back.
First time eaters at Nikuya Japanese, My partner and I went for Lunch and had the 4 canapé sushi and BBQ for 2 that was $52....I have to say the best Japanese I've had so far, the service was great and the waiter's were very helpful with explaning everything for us....We definitely would go back 5 stars from Us
P.s I would definitely recommend the 3 taster Sake's went really well with our food
First time eating here and the service was excellent. Food was great and big portion. I ordered the Rosa tonkostu panko pork and it was huge. I'll def be back again.
The freshest ingredients best seafood and barbeque Buffett has all the samon. Swordfish.tuna.chicken.Wagyu beef.fresh mushrooms all sorts .plus sashimi best curry rice all you can eat plus ice cream for desert recommend it to anyone fantastic for lunch or dinner ..
Wow! What more can you ask for?
For our New Years Eve dinner, a group of friends and I experienced the Nikuya premium buffet set ($59 p.p). The selection was unbelievably good with the quality to match.
Normally, the quality of a buffet is questionable but this was not the case. I've added photos to show what is included in the premium buffet. Note that it's in addition to the regular buffet.
My favourite items were the wagyu oyster blade, wagyu skirt, scallops and the sashimi items. Can you believe these are unlimited??!!
Even though the BBQ was electric powered, (i prefer charcoal) you could still get a decent sear on the meats. The tiled floors were unusually slippery, i think it's from dripplets of oil splashing off the bbqs. We noticed this as we walked through the door. Despite these issues, i absolutely can not wait to return.
We had the $60 premium buffet and were blown away by wonderful service (especially by a waitress called Nao- always attentive and ready to assist us) and delicious food. We originally heard of Nikuya because we were after some sashimi and we were quite impressed by the quality of both the sashimi and the BBQ, especially since it was a buffet style meal.
I loved the decor as it is quite modern, and gives you a feeling of being in your own private space with the comfy booths that they provide, which seem to insulate you from the other diners.
Definitely coming back here again when I have a craving for Japanese food!
Food was fantastic, the wagyu was fresh, sashimi was pretty good as well! Well looked after by one of their staff members, would definitely be back again for another bbq feast
Amazing, authentic Japanese cuisine and fantastic value lunch specials. The nikuya bento box with kurobuta pork is incredible and their chirashi is also beautiful, filled with generous servings of fresh, delicious fish. Not to mention the service is outstanding- so warm, attentive and accommodating.
Booked on Dimmi and showed up quite late but the staff were super accomodating and lovely. Ordered a sparkling wine which was quite sweet but pleasant enough. The food was amazing !!!
Started with a green salad topped with shredded wontons. Sauces and condiments on the table. Next up was a bowl of sashimi with ponzu sauce which was superb. Nasu dengaku followed and was delightfully silky and more-ish. I adore eggplant cooked this way. Mains were chicken teriyaki and a chicken teriyaki. Both were succulent and beautifully cooked and presented. Excellent value, great service and a lovely setting- go if you enjoy Japanese food which is well presented.
My favourite Japanese by far! The menu is about 20 pages long. Book in advance to get a good table as it's always busy with customers always coming back for more. Lively atmosphere and great prices too
We came on weeknight so not many people were eating here. We got seated in a booth and had great service from the wait staff from start to finish. We ordered the all you can eat buffet and the food came out quickly and was really fresh. We weren't too rushed into finishing and had a great time being able to BBQ out food. We really enjoyed the all you can eat wagyu and seafood sashimi!
What an excellent Japanese buffet. Being a big sashimi lover, their Sashimi is exactly what you find in Japan. Sliced with absolute perfection. Their prawns and scallops were also of excellent quality. The main attraction is the quality of the beef and pork that you get for the BBQ is also excellent. The only thing is you have time your orders well as you have 90 minutes to eat it all. So make sure you order plenty but not too much.

Great place to eat, food was excellent and very filling, staff were extremely friendly and always went over the top to make sure we were happy.
I went here a couple of months ago for a girls' night out, and we were not disappointed. One of the girls is a vegetarian, and there was no lack of veggie delights that even a meatasaurus like myself enjoyed. I never thought I'd say that I liked the tofu, and this is the only time I can honestly say it. Delicious food, and very fast and friendly service.
Good food great service. Free parking too. The meat was also fresh and not frozen. If you are craving bbq this is the place to go, the price 40$pp comes with many side and entree dishes included. We will be back
Great spot for a big group. Not many know they have free parking in the complex if you eat there. We got the premium course and the quality of the meat and seafood was outstanding. That marbling in the wagyu beef! You can tell it was top quality. My other favorites were the tuna sashimi, served at the perfect temperature and the vegetable gyoza. The service was a bit slow but overall I enjoyed my evening.
Another visit to celebrate the birthday of my sister and I. There is a private room where you can book your group into in which we did which allowed us not only privacy but to also be able to enjoy each other's company as well as talk and giggle as much as we want, and of course, take as much photos as we would like without having the eyes of other diners looking upon you. Again, friendly and kind customer service never fails to make a dining experience better. Although it did take some time for some of the dishes to come out, the waiters would be very attentive and continuously letting us know if there were any delays. Although being in a private room sometimes has its ups and downs, as trying to get the waiter's attention for hot tea topup or water can also be a hassle as they don't always walk past your room too often until need be.
Love this place, have been there a few times and every time both the service and food was fantastic, highly recommend. Will go back many many times
I've been to Nikuya many times and their food and service is always excellent!
Love their bento box lunches and their deep fried food is the best in Brisbane!
Fantastic premium bbq buffet that is on the expensive side but definitely worth the $ with the exceptional quality of food. I especially enjoyed the sashimi, sushi, wagyu beef steak, scallops and miso soup.
I had a great night out with my work colleagues here on Tuesday night. The food was amazing with a great variety of seafood, meat, vegetables, sides and dessert. The service was really good but a little slow at the beginning. I will definitely come back as it was a great experience.
Have tried both lunch and dinner - yummy foods and worth for money. Friendly staff with good service. Very convenient online booking. Very convenient for parking and can be validated for the customers.
Highly recommended!!
Absolutely loved this place. We dined down stairs in the a la carte area and ordered the Wagyu Tataki, cold soba, teriyaki chicken roll and sashimi platter. All were absolutely stunning both in presentation and flavour. For dessert we shared the green tea mochi and it was pure heaven. We felt immediately transported to Japan. The staff are super friendly and appreciative for your custom. Highly recommended for Japanese foodies!
I enjoyed the BBQ at Nikuya. The Wagyu beef was delicious, sashimi was fresh, service was excellent. However, it was a bit expensive. Overall, not a bad place for a fine dining Japanese restaurant.
Dined at Nikuya last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is 2 levels. We chose upstairs where the bbq tables are. The fitout/decor of the restaurant is great, very Japanese and it is just as great upstairs.
We chose the bbq buffet (the $39 one) and there were plenty of choices. The meat was very thinly cut and tender and the apetisers, especially the gyoza were delicious. Half price for kids aged 5-11 is always helpful!!
There is another buffet for $59 which includes the seafiod, sushi, and sashimi.. we will try that next time. The staff were great, all very friendly and helpful. Free parking under the building makes it very family friendly. AND they have KIRIN on tap! Supurb!
The service is great at this place. Seating is very comfortable. We've been there a few times for their BBQ buffet. There are two options. One is the 'basic' with you standard marble beef, rib, chicken, pork belly as meats and a range of appetizers. Then you have your 'premier' which has seafood, wagyu and a greater range of options. The wagyu wasn't very marbled, in fact the marble beef was actually nicer. Overall I like it for its variety, service and comfort :)
Having the choice of Bbq buffet or ordering off the menu, we decided to not stuff our faces tonight. Nikuya has been setup with nice decor and even getting our own booth - very cool.
The service was good and professional. Food came out quickly. Now to the important part, the food. Well it was well presented and the sushi tasted good. The eel was a little plain with just eel placed on top of rice and a little sauce, was expecting a little more especially in the presentation area.
The restaurant does validate secure parking which is a bonus.
What a fantastic meal and all-round lovely place. I ordered the sushi sashimi bento box with fish fillet which was a substantial meal without being overdone. The Panko fish was crisp and delicious. The salad was fresh and came with a lovely dressing, which was on the table so you can decide how much you want (a great idea). The sashimi and sushi was all served at room temperature to maximise the flavour and tasted fresh and delicious. In fact, it was amongst the best sashimi I've had. The service was friendly too so we hope to come back here.
Today I went to lunch here because I haven't eaten Japanese food for a while. Outside the restaurant I saw some fake food models. Inside were some nice decorations and paintings on the walls.
I went inside and a waiter immediately walked up to me and asked me weather I wanted to sit in a booth. I sat down. He then gave me a menu and asked me if I wanted a drink.
I read the menu and asked for the salmon teriyaki. After a few minutes, the meal came. The salmon was extremely filling and the sauce was nice. I didn't have room to eat the vegetables, but they cooled down too quickly.
The restaurant is very nice and the only thing wrong was that my dish was too filling.

For price, location, service, decor, and quality; I believe this Japanese restaurant deserves to get 4.5/5. Nikuya have two levels with simple and yet very nice decor. Service was prompt and very attentive with friendly smiling staff who spoke good english. Sashimi were fresh, gyozas were good, but our wagyu beef skewers were fairly bland and lacked seasoning. A small bone was found in one of my sashimi slices, but everything else seems okay. Wasabi was freshly grated and prices were very reasonable vs quality. Free parking below for 4hrs when you validate ur ticket through their counter. Overall experience was great, will return again soon.
Before this wonderful restaurant opened, it was quite hard having a local Japanese restaurant to keep going to whenever there were events or just a dinner with friends. Since my visit to Nikuya, I have enjoyed the experience and the service that they have shown. Of course, the food and ambience of the restaurant is key and I do have to say that so far, they have always nailed the food. The ambience isn't your typical traditional Japanese restaurant, no Tatami room and so on, but it is more of a modern, simplistic and yet it has its history within it here and there. And, have I mentioned that they do offer free parking? Score!
This place is a champion! Very nice environment with great and funny staff. They have two levels available and both of them are really nice. The food is also a spot on! We will be back!
Really nice atmosphere and service! The food was rather average, nothing too exciting. Their Panko Crumbed Kurobuta pork loin was absolutely delicious-I've never tasted pork that was so juicy. Nice place to go to with a big group for a special occasion-there's plenty of space!
First time at nikuya for dinner. We ordered sashimi, grilled eggplant marinated in miso and their signature tonkatsu. Impressed with all the dishes particularly tonkatsu. The sauce was excellent. Would definitely come back again. One thing though, the new waitress had no idea about the menu and when we asked what the tonkatsu was served with she just said it comes on its own, so it was a pleasant surprise to find rice and miso.
A bit overpriced for the food you get (we did the Japanese BBQ), but in saying our underwhelming review is not about the taste of the food as the food is not bad at all. But that was it. It was not bad. We personally feel that for the price you could get something a lot better, and even tastier.
We found this place by accident after the one we came to was closed. The food was prepared quickly and was delicious. Highly recommend the chiken breast in panko breadcrumbs.
日本語のREVIEWはしたです。
FYI - VALIDATED PARKING IS INCLUDED ;)
We decided to dine in the yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) style upstairs section and were blown away by not only the price but the unparalleled quality of the food that was included in the standard selection. Upstairs operates as a tabehodai (all you can eat buffet for 2 hours) where you can pick the type of meat/vegetable/Japanese fare you want and they continue to serve it until you are stuffed or your 2 hours runs out. We had the standard selection (Nikuya Course - $39 per Person), which was amazing and arguably the best cuts of meat I have had at any Yakinuku outside of Japan.
Even though the restaurants is big enough to house a small samurai army, the staff made my family feel like we were the only people in the room. It was a fabulous experience, we will be bringing back all of our friends next time! Baby friendly as well. If I was to point out 1 thing that was not perfect but still far from bad, it would be the rice - it was a little dry and could be a bit better quality, considering the quality of everything else blew our mind.
I've been to Nikuya Japanese restaurant so many times as they have fresh sashimi and fresh meat. Last time, we had BBQ buffet, just the basic course. Ox tongue and Oyster blade are marvellous! Will come back again!!!
Slick Chef Extraordinaire. Gangster Of Food.

Awesome awesome awesome! The restaurant is beautifully designed and staff were friendly and very helpful. Good saki and the food was some of the best Japanese food Ive had in Brisbane. I can't believe it took me so long to try this place. This was our 2nd visit and so far we have tried the Ramen, sushi, sashimi and BBQ and it has all been perfect. Can't wait to come back!!!!
Was here the other day for lunch and had the Kurobuta Pork Shogayaki Don and it was so good! The restaurant has two levels, the dining area you first walk into is huge and decorated with traditional Japanese style paintings on the walls but I'm not to sure what the second level looks like. Staff are friendly and greet and sit you when you come in. Quick and prompt service with great food.
I always go for Yakiniku here because they got fresh meat! Wagyu had melted in mouth. sushi and sashimi were fresh! But food was delivered a bit slow.
Went with friends. Service was a little slow to begin with as the waiter took a while to come and take our order, however the meals did come out quickly. I had the Salmon Aburi and a Japanese style pork bun. Both were delicious, although I do feel the restaurant is a little over priced for what you get. There are sushi places that are just as good for half the price.
Have dined in this two-storey Izakaya at Fortitude Valley near James Street Food Precinct. The first time I tried the signature Panko Crumbed Kurobuta pork cutlet, which was so juicy. The second time was DIMMI 50% off deal. We tried the BBQ upstairs and decided to go for Banquet C. The set-up of upstairs is the same as downstairs with hugh space. Foods are spectacular, quality is superb and service is friendly and attentive. Tell you the trick, you can always enjoy discount to dine in thru Entertainment book or unlimited promotions from Yumtable. Go for it, don't forget to ask for FREE PARKING.
I'm willing to say that it's the best Japanese in Brisbane. From the service to the food - everything was amazing. Staff were attentive and we were not without water in glasses for more than 5 mins. We ordered a little of everything and not one dish failed. The sashimi was fresh, soft shell crab was crispy and the shaomai bursting with flavour. I'll definitely be back again.
BEST BATTER EVER!!!. I am currently pregnant and couldn't really have anything raw. So all sushi and sashimi is out of the question for me to try. Their tonkatsu was amazing! The batter was light and crispy! it was delicious. It is a little pricey though. A piece of pork loin for $29-32 dollars. If only it is not so expensive, I will be there every week!
Good food.. The food here isn't cheap, but it is worth the price. Visited for dinner, and had the sashimi moriawase and the seafood moriawase for two. The sashimi was fresh and well-prepared, and the panko crumb on the seafood moriawase ingredients was light and not oily. Besides the standard soy sauce, there were also pots of yuzu dressing, tonkatsu sauce, and salad dressing at the table for you to dabble with other flavours. I recommend that yuzu dressing.
The venue itself is spacious (two floors, but I only saw the ground floor) and warmly lighted. There are some cozy booths that would comfortably seat 4, and perhaps squeeze 6 into less comfortably), as well as private rooms for larger groups.
The staff were attentive and polite, and as has been mentioned by others, the call button on the table means that if you do need to ask for anything, you don't have to wave your hands in the air frantically or keep looking around trying to catch someone's eye.
They also validate parking, which means you get 4 hours of free parking in the building when you dine there, so you can have a leisurely meal.
All up, it was a great night out, and I would say better value than Sono if you're looking for good Japanese dining.
I very much enjoyed the BBQ banquet we tried at Nikuya. It was an easy order for us because we didn't have to do any thinking. The food was well-balanced and we got to taste a variety of things in one meal. It was perhaps on the pricier side but service and ambiance was lovely and we got our parking validated too.
Nice atmosphere and their food was really fresh and delicious.
Style and Substance. We visited on a quiet Wednesday night. Booked a table but didn't need to as there were plenty of table free. Parked in the on-site underground car park Mistakenly chose the tenants lift and had to hunt for the ground floor foyer door released button (left side of doors) to exit. The second lift bank is 20m away in the basement.
We were seated promptly at a styling booth and perused the menu. Drinks and meals were delivery promptly and wait staff were attentive, although the addition of a 'service button' (I love these!) to the end of the table ensured you could signal your intentions. Every restaurant should have these!
Our Sashimi choice was fresh as firm and well presented on quality tableware. The Tonkasto dishes of pork cutlet and scallops were tasty and well presented. If I had to be really critical, the pork cutlet was sliced a bit to widely at 2cm. 1cm strips would have been easier to handle. The envelope of crumbs separated from the cutlet and broke up a little too readily and the shredded cabbage wasn't super crisp.
With no set on offer, rice and miso soup were optional extra. These would have been a nice complimentary inclusion for the main meal prices asked.
Ambience - 9

Food - 8
Value - 7
Good restaurant and good food, definitely want it to survive but few things need to improve
- it is slightly overpriced. For that price range, people might consider going to Sono instead.
- the background music is a bit dull , make people want to sleep. They should consider playing different kind of music
- not enough photos in the menu
- not enough marketing , they should consider paying newspaper for food article
Great food, service and ambience. Would definitely recommend.
Friendly service, tasty food. Definitely worth a return visit
Best Japanese food to date!. Service was absolutely outstanding. Waitress was knowledgeable about every item on the menu. Ingredients were fresh and of a high quality. Would recommend and will definitely be returning soon!
Just had a dinner here for my partners birthday. There was a large group of us that was beautifully looked after in their private dining room. The service was amazing, the staff were patient and knowledgeable and accommodated our large group (and split bill) with complete professionalism and efficiency. We had a fantastic night and were very very impressed. We will definitely be back.
My major life passion, without a doubt, is Japanese food. When I heard of a new Japanese establishment in the trendy new area in Fortitude Valley, near Emporium several weeks ago, I knew this was my calling ヾ( ・`⌓´・)ノ゙. Nikuya is situated on McLachlan Street, next to Flaming Olive, another place I really need to try ヾ(@^▽^@)ノ. The environment was a very beautiful mix of modern and Japanese aspects. We started off with drinks, which was refreshingly cool after the effort it took us to find the place. On every table is three sets of sauce, a sesame dressing and salad dressing, both of which are for salads, depending on personal preference, as well as a tonkotsu sauce, because Nikuya's signature dish is Tonkotsu (fried pork chop) Knowing what the signature dish was, I could not request ordering it, despite the fact that it cost over $30 for what was essentially a pork chop. After ordering, a waitress came around with a bowl of sesame, and explained that the Tonkotsu sauce was DIY with ground sesame. Very enjoyable indeed. Unlike other Japanese places, all three dishes that we ordered came at once. I was very impressed by this. The first thing I tried was the Tonkotsu Loin. This is Nikuya's signature dish, so I had high expectations. I was not disappointed. The panko was super crispy, the skin wasnt oily, the meat was juicy and lightly marinated ヾ(@°▽°@)ノ. It went really well with my DIY sauce. The salad on the side was also very refreshing and light. It complemented the Tonkotsu very well. The next thing I tried was the Kinoko Udon. Being a meat lover, I was very skeptical about this dish, but my friend ordered it, so I went along with it. It came with 3 types of mushrooms: White button mushrooms, Enoki mushrooms Oyster Mushrooms The broth was infused wonderfully with the mushroomy tastes. In terms of Udon, I have also been able to make out two commercial types, a round lower grade one which is round and of worse quality, and a square high grade one, which is actually
Looking over the presented menus, it became pretty clear why the place was called 'meat shop'. A list of the meats used were clearly described in the menu, along with a guarantee of their highest quality, premium grade Australian meat and seafood. The two meats that stood out most on the menu were the Kurobuta Pork, which played a role in the restaurant's signature dish 'Tonkatsu', along with Wagyu Beef (marble score of 6+).
Sitting on the facade of the building, it's got prime position and exposure. The atmosphere, layout and decor of the restaurant is minimalist with a spacious layout with high ceilings. We dined on the bottom floor, which is for their al a carte restaurant, whereas their top floor is for their Japanese BBQ offering, and requested a booth for the three of us. At the time we arrived, which was prime for dinner, the restaurant was quite empty, in comparison with other restaurants nearby. We all had a plate of cold soba noodles to ourselves, as well as a small plate of sashimi and their salmon sushi roll to share. All the food came out together. The soba noodles came out on as tray with their sweet dipping sauce. I'm used to cold soba noodles coming out on bed of shaved ice, however, this did not. Despite that visual aspect, and to keep the noodles cold, I was able to devour these delicious noodles before they dried out and became unpleasant to eat. The sushi, which was the salmon, avocado and cream cheese, was delicious. There was a good spread of rice and filling ratio, and the colouring of the components was visually appealing. The sashimi plate was composed of three slices of three types of sashimi; salmon, kingfish, and tuna, with three slices of each. They were fresh and the thickness of the cuts were good, and accompanied by shredded carrot and daikon, which is an appreciated accompaniment to sashimi. After these dishes, we were still up for more and were very happy with how everything was, opted for the teriyaki chicken roll, and for myself, a hot bowl of soba noodles with mushroom broth. Again, the food was delicious and the broth for my soba noodles was very tasty, rich and flavoursome!
