If you're a fan of the popular Little Loco cafe, then you're probably right up to date with the newly opened sister store, Miss Jones. A couple days ago, I made a visit with a dining companion to the fresh looking establishment situated on Brunswick St.
It was a late morning around 10:30-11:00 am, the cafe was full of diners and on the verge of becoming a full house. The chic designed coffee shop has a clean set up, furnished with beautiful hues of soft pastel pink and white walls, polished floors, wooden tables and cushioned chairs, which instantly provides nice warm vibes.
Not long after our arrival, we were greeted by the friendly owner who sat us down at one of the tables inside. Menus and table water were promptly given, we soon began perusing the menu at our leisure. Simple and concise, the menu doesn't only guarantee the bacon and egg staples but introduces a good selection of healthy choices like the Green Breakfast, Chai Granola and Roast Pumpkin Bruschetta. All in which sounded appetizing.
After a thorough look through of the menu, we decided on a few dishes to share: Breakfast Burger, Lloyds Breakfast and the Blueberry&Vanilla Waffles which comes highly recommended. On the side, our caffeinated beverages consisted of a mug Flat White and a cup Cappuccino.
Starting off with the coffees, my Flat White was served warm-to-hot, made with the Single Origin blend and presented with a nice latte art. The coffee was smooth, consisting hints of nuttiness and citrus notes. Leaving a pleasant aftertaste. My dining companion, on the other hand, simply enjoyed her morning brew (extra love to the heirloom chocolate sprinkled on top!)
Our meals began coming out after 10-15mins - First off was the Breakfast Burger, which consisted of Crispy Bacon, Fried Egg, Rocket, Onion Jam, Vintage Cheddar, Chipotle Mayo on a Toasted Brioche Bun. I was lucky enough to grab a bite as my friend was devouring into the burger. Based on my bite, I could say the Brioche Bun was perfectly toasted, being slightly crispy on the outside and maintaining that softness on the inside. The Cheese, Bacon, Rocket and beautifully made Fried Egg was a great combo. The Onion Jam was definitely my winner, with an onion tang lightly masked by the sweetness of the jam.
Second to arrive was Lloyds Breakfast, presented with Bacon, Poached Eggs, Hash & Cheddar Waffle, Spinach, Onion Jam, Avocado and Sourdough. The savoury waffle with hash & cheddar was nicely cooked giving out a soft cheesy fragrant. The eggs were perfectly poached, exposing a runny yolk when cut into. Again, the Onion Jam was a favourite accompanied with a small dish of ripe Avocado on the side. Unfortunately, I found the bacon to be a tad overcooked and dry. The Sourdough was also a little tough to cut into. Besides the two minor downsides, it was still a good solid breakfast.
Lastly, was the Blueberry&Vanilla Waffles that came with, Belgian Waffle, Honeycomb Ice Cream, Peanut Brittle, Creme Anglaise, Blueberry and Pistachios. The waffles were served soft, however, maintained a light crunchiness on the outside. The Honeycomb Ice Cream itself was on the sweeter side for me, but having it with the waffles helped balance out the sweetness. The Peanut Brittles were really tasty (anything sweet and crunchy is normally my thing!) The Creme Anglaise was served in a small jug, the flavour was smooth, creamy and was divine. Without knowing the sweetness level, I did pour more than half of the creme on to my waffles, which made it even more sweeter than I anticipated (that was my mistake). All in all, a very enjoyable dessert and a great way to end my breakfast run!
My overall experience at Miss Jones has been lovely. Thank you so much, Daniel and the staff for the wonderful hospitality.
