Wanted to try out koto sanpo cafe for ages and finally got there. I’ve now been twice and had both the teriyaki salmon bento box and the omurice. They were both good portions which was great. Tender and delicious food which paired perfectly with everything else. The omurice was probably my favourite because I haven’t had anything like it before. Most meals are around the $20 mark which I think is good for the amount and quality of the food you get. Nice atmosphere and interior is designed simplistic but very pleasant. Definitely recommend going if you’re in the area or just want a good quality Japanese feed.
A modern slick Japanese tea bar also selling soft serve soups & curries . Reminiscent of the tea bars in Kyoto Japan the service is gracious & swift. I opted for a flat white here which had good flavour & with a double shot a pleasant coffee hit
10/10 Matcha place! Definitely a place to visit for all the matcha fans out there! 🍵
I haven’t had savoury food here but the MATCHA!! The matcha float is my favourite menu item I’ve tried. Parfaits are yum. Have tried the pancakes but it’s not to my liking. They’re thick but not soft and fluffy, very dense and heavy.
Great hotspot for Japanese cuisine, the Matcha French toast is a must to try!! I recommend coming early as it packs up quickly
The food portion is very big. Overall is satisfaction and affordable price range compare to the portion and taste.
This is one of the jewel hidden dessert houses in Brisbane. Love the dessert; healthy choices and less sweet options. Price could be a little cheaper given the portion. My only less favorable experience was the noise of creaking kitchen door. That’s so annoying. Please fix it.
A nicely decorated store in the new FudoDori lane, always packed with people, thus be prepared for a long queue (about 20-50 minutes wait).
Ordered the Beef Katsu Lava Omurice. The price was rather expensive but accompanied with the huge portion and visually appetizing presentation. The katsu was crunchy and tender, but rather bland. The sauce was okay; may need more black pepper and spices for a better kick. For the drinks, ordered the Mango Vanilla Matcha Latte. Looks pretty but it was of smaller size than I expected. However, it tasted nice and refreshing without being overwhelmingly sweet.
Would come back in the future to try more matcha-based desserts, but preferably on the days that has less queue.
Love how the matcha menu is so varied. The size of drinks is a bit small. The matcha soft serve is a bit too sweet. The savoury items are tasty and fulfilling for lunch. Overall, I would come again and try out other matcha sweets.
Such a great place for anyone who loves Matcha and Japanese cuisine! Just make sure you know that they only serve dessert and drinks between lunch and dinner hours.
Just discover from my record that I miss to write the review for this dessert place of my visit in June.
It was an occasion of after staff meeting dinner in the City so went to explore this place. I admit that there are many exciting eateries going on in the FudoDori and this is one of them.
Noticed it when I explored the LuCha Kitchen around two weeks before this one. It was a busy night and we had to wait for around ten minutes for a table to accommodate five of us. I like the idea of the Tea Ceremony so gave it a go. Other people of our group focused on Matcha items such like Matcha latte and French toast with Matcha. All items are interesting but not extraordinary exciting except the prices are impressive.
My gaze browsed around that made me a conclusion - spending power of the Generation Y is very strong👍

Omurice was beautiful. Probably the most yummy omurice we have eatean so far (in melbourne and brisbane). Generous portion.
Appreciate the flexibility to change beef katsu to chicken karaage.
Actually I think it is very delicious
The matcha is a bomb! I even visited this place a few weeks in a row. Service is excellent, yet I wish they could adjust the price or any discount for students would be nice😊
Tasty food, fun inner city vibe. Would prefer that drinks were in glasses and not plastic cups!
Such friendly service here however gets packed during peak dining times!
Delicious traditional Japanese meals that are also aesthetically pleasing.
Not a fan of the green jelly in the dessert though, tasted like dish soap (but easily avoidable, just eat around it)
The ordering system if you're eating in can be kind of messy, because you're seated and have to get up again to order - and the queue ends up being in the centre of the room, or at least it has been for me when I go during peak, and there ends up being a bit of a crowd. if you're eating by yourself, be careful if they let somebody into your seat because you had to go up an order! And remember your order number.
Food and drinks wise, they're a bit pricey, but given location etc it was expected for me. Wasn't expecting a cheap eat. I really enjoy the matcha-strawberry drink.
Been wanting to go for a very long time and finally had a chance. It surprised me because it was a lot bigger than I had thought! Initially when walking up, i believed it to be a take away/fast dessert and snacks bar, but as i was led through to the back it opened out into a long space with greenery all along the wall, lots of high windows, airy feel, and tasteful lighting (great for photos). You order by the register and then take your seat (i got one by the window towards the back which provided more privacy and good for lone travelers). I ordered a sweetened matcha float and a side of butter chips (recommended as most popular). The matcha came out quick and was very balanced and flavorful, not too earthy not too sweet; i opted for this one instead of the latte because i felt once the soft serve melted it should give me a milky mix anyway. I did notice that the soft serve was a bit icy and not sure if that’s the result of it sitting on top of ice that’s creating a frozen crust. It’s still very tasty! Now the chips are obviously not their focus food but was still a nice side dish. I will say i totally regret not going with my first choice (Japanese curry) but opted to try their recommended popular one (soy butter). I felt that it was very oily and didn’t have much flavor, although texture wise was thin, crispy, and hot. Overall my experience was wonderful, service was spot on, and everyone around me had such delicious tasting Japanese food that i wish i was hungry to eat! I will be back!
I'm so happy that I don't have to trek to southside for a Matcha fix! I've been here 3 times and each time it's super busy but the staff are always polite and accommodating. The decor is quite nice although the tables seem a bit small if each person has a dish each. Not sure why the staff set our chopsticks on every table by default since I think a lot of people just come for a dessert and drink!
The Matcha latte floats I've had each time have been consistent, and strong on flavour and fairly balanced with sweetness. I think it would be nice to not have plastic cups for environmental reasons.
I've tried both French toasts, sooo good with the crispy exterior and eggy thick slice of bread that's almost like pudding. No question I will be back, need to try their savoury dishes too!
This is a super aesthetic restaurant with a nice seating area and good food. It’s quite popular though so be prepared to wait 10-20min for a table if you come around dinner time. However, the waiting is super orderly (they give you a number and everything) so it’s not too bad.
The matcha is super smooth and made me realise that I don’t actually dislike matcha, I only dislike badly made matcha. It’s slightly sweeter than I would like though, and they give you an awful lot of ice. I guess the latter isn’t too bad because it’s pretty strong in the first place. Azuki jelly was interesting - it was like a slightly less sweet, much more firm version of grass jelly.
I really want to come and try all the desserts but I have tried the matcha French toast ($10.80) and it was excellent. The bread was so soft and buttery but crispy on top. Pretty good value for dessert in the city as well.
I liked the omurice ($14.80). They gave you quite a lot and the egg was perfectly liquid and soft. The rice inside was also tomato flavoured fried rice (?), which went well with the sauce.
Love this newish restaurant. It's packed on a Friday lunch so make sure you book if you come in a large group. Cute deserts which is what we came for. Ordered the fizz coffee soda and the strawberry chocolates French toast. The presentation was gorgeous. The staff were so sweet and super polite. I will definitely be back for their matcha soft serve.
The second restaurant that we recently tried in FudoDori was Koto Sanpo. I am a big fan of anything matcha and was excited to be checking out this place. We arrived early around their opening hour of 11.30 am and they were already quite busy. We were seated and after browsing their extensive menu, Mr went to the counter for our order. As we were there for lunch, we ordered savoury meals rather than their sweets or desserts.
After seeing photos on their Instagram of their recently opened restaurant I was very eager to visit Koto Sanpo. What drew me to them initially was their desserts and matcha lattes as well as their layout and aesthetic.
I visited for dinner with my friend and we didn’t make a booking so we waited around 20 minutes with a number as it was quite busy on a Friday night with many people dining in and endless takeaway orders as a hot new spot.
Entering the restaurant we headed to the back that opens up to a much larger space than you would assume from the outside and took our seats. Ordering my dessert and matcha latte first I opted for the simple vegetable miso soup so I would have room for dessert.
The desserts and my drink came out first and the mains took longer so we ate our desserts and had time to wait before the dinner arrived. I loved the matcha roll and other added fruit and mochi that all had great flavour. My friend also enjoyed her pancakes that were delightfully fluffy but too sweet with the strawberries for me.
The miso soup was simple and filling and my matcha latte was perfect. The atmosphere was nice and although very busy wasn’t too loud even seated next to the kitchen opening. I would love to come at a quieter time for a cake and drink and I definitely want to visit again for a tea ceremony/high tea.
Went here with the partner for an early weekday dinner. There was already a bit of a line up for the indoor seatig area when we walked in, however we immediately got a table as we did not mind a sitting outside.
We were given menus and ordered at the counter:
- Beef Katsu Lava Omurice: beautifully cooked beef katsu (medium), with soft egg and rich tomato ketchup flavoured rice.
- BBQ Eel Bento: generous serving of grilled unagi with different textures and flavourful mixture of items within the bento box.
- Coffee Jelly Matcha Frappe: almost a dessert within itself with servings of coffee jelly, ice cream and cream.
- Hot Matcha Latte: lovely matcha flavour and not too sweet.
Friendly and efficient service. Generous portions of foods - we were too full to fit in any of the listed desserts on this occasion. Reasonable prices. Casual ambience with limited indoor ans outdoor seating.
Overall, a nice dinner experience of the savoury dishes offered.
Having just returned from Japan, I was delighted to see Kyoto inspired food become available in Brisbane city. It did not disappoint, the quality, presentation and freshness of the meals pays justice to the perfection that Japanese culture is known for. Large servings, lots of umami!
They don't take bookings and I was told it'd be fine to walk in with 4 pax. Unfortunately we arrived and was told an hour wait. Yet within 15 minutes they seated us. Most people seem to go in for dessert so their table turn around must be quite high. That saying they could do better accommodating for dining in patrons as there aren't really that many tables for dining - mostly small tables.
Want a taste of Kyoto in your mouth? YOU GOT IT. Right here in Brisbane cbd. Not going to lie I was a bit unsure at first about visiting especially as the team had only soft launched. But if the soft launch of THIS good I cannot imagine how good the real launch is ha! Must try - the Matcha Softserve. Ps. The decor is also amazing.
Edit: Came back to try their parfait koto Sanpo, as well as their matcha kokuto float. I'm not a huge fan of the kokuto jelly, but their floats are great! The parfait was out of this world! There was such an assortment of different components that all came together so well. I would have preferred more matcha icecream to accompany the other dessert components, but that's just cos I love the ice cream so much. The matcha French toast is really delicious too!
Finally got to try this place after hearing so many people rave about it!!! We got the matcha tiramisu parfait, matcha pancakes and matcha parfait. I think the matcha tiramisu parfait is a great way for anyone to try a huge variety of the desserts koto sanpo has to offer as they put an assortment of desserts in a single cup. The matcha flavour was really strong too! The matcha pancakes were fluffy and delicious as well! I'm definitely returning to try their savoury dishes and their other parfaits, French toast and drinks!

Was recommended by a friend to try the matcha dishes. They did not disappoint at all. The matcha was legit good, went back there 3 days in a row to try different matcha desserts and drinks. My favorite so far is the double matcha frappe/hot and the matcha parfait.
If you like strong matcha definitely go here.
Nice chic place, ordered the kitsune udon and sweetned Matcha and both were very good (udon broth especially flavourful). Cost around $15. Although some of the staff weren't well versed in English they were all friendly and accommodating. Good place to take friends.
The salmon bento wasn’t too bad, it was quite a variety on the bento. The matcha is really authentic you can feel a strong taste on it. The staff was friendly too. The only thing is that I went on a Saturday around 11 something and was told food order can only start at 12pm.
Friendly staff and good ambience.
Visited 3 times now and food has been good each time! I can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu
Great potential. Took a star off for the dry and over cooked pancakes, also can be a tad expensive. Udon was amazing and the kokuto jelly is pretty tasty!
After waiting for a couple of weeks, Koto Sanpo has finally opened! They are sister stores to Matcha Hanpo! If you have not read my review about this cafe, click here! They are a Kyoto-inspired restaurant which is very famous for their matcha. They have also stated that they serve high quality matcha products as they source them directly from Kyoto, Japan. During my recent trip to Japan, I missed out on trying their matcha soft serve but this cafe opened just in time as I was craving for some good matcha desserts!
Having been a regular at the matcha dessert specialty cafe Matcha Honpo over at Wharf Street since there opening, there was little doubt that I was closely following the progress of their sister store, Koto Sanpo with its flagship planned out as one of the main attractions at the new and improved Elizabeth Arcade, now aptly named FudoDori (i.e. food street).
Finally Elizabeth Arcade is back to life! So happy with Koto Sanpo. Their teriyaki chicken, salmon and namban chicken bento 🍱 were delicious. Love the addition of really fresh sashimi, agedashi tofu, tamago, tempura prawn, miso soup with every bento.
Their omu rice range is my absolute favourite! Took me back to Japan 🍲
Their matcha desserts though.. amazing!! Big love for the parfait, matcha parfait pearls and anmitsu. 🍵🍰
Love their matcha softserve, matcha latte, watermelon matcha drink, matcha yuzu, the sweetened matcha (with just enough sweetness) drinks.
Ps their "pork ginger set" is only served on weekdays and it is so delicious!
Customer service was friendly, efficient and attentive too.
Honestly can't fault this restaurant :)
10/10 my go to Udon in the CBD
I always order the tempura Udon & my favourite part is the kakiage topping but sometimes they don't include it - I'm told it depends on the delivery. It's a bit disappointing when they don't have it so make sure to ask first!
The omurice is amazing, it's very creamy and delicious, if you're a fan of eggs you'll love this dish, it works well for any meal of the day!
The icecream float drinks are really delicious, the icecream is sooo yummy but it's definitely more of a dessert than a drink to pair with food - the other drinks are all quite unique & worth a try!
Ordered a Pork Katsu and Chicken Kaarage Lava Omurice - the meat was good; crispy, tender and tasty - felt the rice wasn’t as flavorful. Egg was creamy and soft, Demi glaze was decent, but could use more Unami. Overall atmosphere is quite nice. Staff are friendly too. There is also a 1% surcharge on cards!
Good place to have modern Japanese dishes. I quite like their iced matcha latte with kokuto jelly and yuzu matcha which are very very refreshing. The restaurant could be busy during meal times so be prepared to wait before getting seated. Restaurant closes between 2:30pm-5:30pm. Pay cash can save you 1% card surcharge.
One of my favourite places to go for a good Japanese omurice🌟
Cozy atmosphere with lovely staff who are friendly and very fast service.
I ordered the pork katsu lava omurice and it was lovely. The demi glaze sauce is so good and wanted to try the cream sauce but sadly a few menu items were sold out and/or unavailable. Will definitely be back to try the other meals and desserts!
Good price good food, it's a quick dinner with top quality food! Drinks are amazing! I wish I could have a chance to try dessert after they reopen the dessert options again 🥢
Best bento box I've ever had, and I've even travelled to Japan a few times! Salmon was cooked perfectly, flavours well balanced. Very authentic, chef didn't even speak English. Great service, comfortable seating. Going back two days in a row, that's how much I enjoyed it. Matcha drink was yummy too.
We came here with a group of 7 on a Thursday evening.
We noticed that there were some items on the menu not being offered anymore due to staffing shortages, including many of the signature dessert options, which was quite disappointing.
Half of us ordered the salmon Bento Box and the other half ordered the lava omurice. I ordered the salmon.
The salmon Bento Box was presented with two slices of raw salmon, one grilled salmon fillet, tofu, miso soup and some other smaller side portions. There was certainly a variety of ingredients and extra effort was made to make the Bento Box look presentable. The salmon fillet was overcooked and dry, which was quite unfortunate. Everything else was satisfactory. Portion sizes were as expected and price-wise it was also reasonable.
In previous times when I tried out the chicken lava omurice, I found the meat slightly dry but the sauce from the omurice was able to balance the meat to a certain extent.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was kept clean and tidy.
Closest parking would probably be Myer centre so if you're dining at night you might want to book earlier to save a bit in parking. Alternatively, you can park at King George Square for $5 (night rates) and walk over.
PS. This place is also famous for its matcha green tea ice cream so those of you who love green tea ice cream, give this place a go!
