Review New Farm Fish Cafe - Brisbane

Malka
We went to New Farm Fish Cafe to try the oyster omelette. We also got the dry spicy pork noodle and the bean curd. The consistency of the omelette was interesting and the sauce it was served with was also unique. I loved every element of this dish. The noodle and bean curd dishes were nice too. You order at the counter here, and you can find the menus here as well. On your way to the table, grab some cutlery and water for your table. The food will be served to your table. I felt the customer service to be courteous. If you haven't tried Taiwanese dishes, this is a good place to start that journey. I lalso love that this restaurant is so close to the city. We'll definitely return to try the prawn omelette amongst others.

Fish cafe selling Taiwanese food? Your first thought would be that it’s a weird combination and wouldn’t expect it in New Farm of all places but wow …… the dishes is one of the most authentic food that I’ve tasted outside of Taiwan. Highly recommended if you enjoy deep fried chicken fillet or oyster omelette. Service however from one of the staff is non existent. I don’t think she spoke a single word while serving us the entire time.

Thanks to Ada the owner for hosting my church dinner event. Everyone had a blast and loved the food here. My partner and I tried Barra and chips, pig intestines n vermicelli, oyster omelette (my favorite version in Brisbane), spicy pork noodle (yummy as and the oil is needed to keep the fish slick). Every thing was on point.. Could not fault it! My tawainese friend who tried their chicken cutlet said he miss home a lot after eating it. That's how good the food is. Service was quick and organized. If you are visiting new farm park n after something different.. This is the place and the prices are very reasonable. 👍👍👍

Nice place and nice food. Not many Taiwanese restaurants offer pork intestines thin noodle, but you can eat this in this restaurant. We ordered fish and chips for kids, and the thin noodle, oyster pancake and deep fried chicken for myself and my wife. All were delicious, but there was only one thing to say about, it is that the food was a bit too salty.

Oyster egg omelette was yummy Lu rou fan could be better, heaps of rice but stingy on the meat Chicken fillet cutlet was good, could be marinated for longer for more authentic Taiwanese nightmarket flavour Large intestine vermicelli noodles not bad

Friendly staff and delicious authentic taiwanese food. Photo shows the vermicelli and oyster omelette. The shop sells fish and chips and thick shakes too!

Taiwanese food looked nice & was popular but we just felt like old fashioned fish & chips on a Friday night - and it was nice! Don't agree that chip servings are small. Plenty for us. Also ordered grilled fish which was good

Loved their Taiwanese menu. The chicken wing and fried chicken were really good. The rice noodle soup was a bit bland.

Faultless fish & chip dinner with salad in the park across the road. What a lovely surprise for a Saturday night take away in these times of social distancing! The batter was lightly herbed with a good crunch, fish was cod perfectly cooked melting in the mouth. Garden salad was fresh with a small dressing on the side. Chips chunky cut & crunchy

Only had chips but they were overcooked; dark brown and so dry the salt could hardly stick to them. Really unpleasant to eat.

First time I had been there since reopen, was a regular before. Despite the same prices, Fries portion was half the size and they were luke warm, also missing two Calamari rings out of the serve. On top of that we had an almost 30 minute wait on a Sunday evening. Clearly problems out the back, kid out the front was doing this best.

they are no longer closed. their renovations are finished. Come and get it!!! sleek new shop. fresh food. reasonably priced. very friendly staff. have added cake cabinet. perfect one stop shop before heading to the park across the road with the kids. they love the ice creams.

Worst chips ever. So many black rotten bits and the few that were edible tasted like fish/calamari and old oil. If they get chips so wrong I hate to think what the food that requires actual preparation is like.

Extremely reasonable fish and chip place. Simple, fresh fish and chips that taste great within minutes walk to New Farm park. I'll definitely be back.

Best fish and chips in town! Burgers are great to. I actually eat here at least once a week now and its located right across from the new farm park.

I asked if the grilled fish was coated in flour and was told no flour. Turns out it's coated on both sides with thick flour and I'm gluten intolerant so I couldn't eat any of the fish. My friend said it tasted nice though. The chips were ok, nothing special. At least it's near a nice park.

Fish & chips , burgers & all your favourite deep fried seafood friends . Nemo's mates are all there.
The food is fine. Fish & chips are a rare treat, so they always bring back memories of being a kid again. We also had a bacon & egg roll. They certainly didn't skimp out on the bacon & roll was fresh. The definate highlight.
The store itself is fine & comfortable enough, I don't know why anyone wouldn't take the 3 meter walk to in sit in one of Brisbane's most beautiful parks across the road.
The fish is poorly cooked, dry & pretty unappetizing overall. The sea scallops were like those little rubber balls you probably had as a child that bounce wildly out of control
.... Seperate to the fish cafe, I bought a Lipton raspberry ice tea from the drinks fridge, be warned, It was disgusting (shouldn't have been surprised).

Dropped the ball..
The first time we ordered the barramundi and chips with a side of calamari. Fish was a good decent size and all tasted delicious.
Next time we ordered barramundi and chips to find the fish was half the size and unfortunately not as nice.
Will have to try this place again to decide if it's worth going back.
Can get very busy.

Good size portions - chips could be crispier
Friendly staff & fantastic milkshakes
This is a really good local fish shop! We go there weekly

They do a brisk trade on the weekend for the park visitors, so it can be hard to get a table, but why not just get takeaway and sit in the park with your hot fish and chips? The food is ok - nothing fancy. Their fish is usually battered, but you can ask for grilled.

Good sized portions. All food cooked well and tasted good. Only complaint would be the tartare sauce. Bit too like mayo. Will definitely be back though

Rank. Disgusting, fish tastes like the lowest quality Vietnamese basa or something similar. Absolutely woeful, will never return. Overpriced muck.

Agree on the Best Milkshakes. I get the milkshakes from here all of the time, 4 or 5 scoops of ice-cream and plenty of flavoring. They are ice cold and tasty. On the matter of the food, i have had the fish and chips and drink package which is only $10 and great value, the food is good and i also agree with the other review on the burger, they are cheap and good - it is a take away shop so i don't expect 5 Star food, but for a cafe it is good enough and better than plenty of others that i have eaten at. I would recommend that you try it, you won't be disappointed.

Worst chips EVER!!!. Went there last Saturday night got what was lucky to be 2 handfuls of chips for $4 that looked like they had been soaking in oil for days and were inedible and 2 burgers that were just as bad. Wouldn't go back there if you paid me.

Best milkshakes in town. As the title says, best classic milkshakes in town (choc, canilla, caramel, strawberry, babana, coffee, rasberry, lime). I live nearby and pop over all the time. $4.50 for a larger than needed one. It's not a swanky place, its a fish and chip cafe, but it does it well
Andrew.beencke
Classic take away burgers. After the onslaught of burger joints out there charging $15 for a gimmicky quarter pounder, it's nice to still be able to get a classic takeaway style burger with the lot for $8. I actually rate their patties over many of their more expensive counterparts. The chips are pretty good too and the owners/staff are really nice.

Avoid and go elsewhere, seriously.. You know that great fresh calamari you get in cafes? This place doesn't have it. It's the bad chewy fishy kind that is all wrong. You know the great fresh fish you get on the beach that tastes like heaven? This place doesn't have it. The fish is like potato, over cooked and could only be good if you were hung over and need an oil hit. The chips are okay though. Seriously take this advice and save your $26.50 and spend it elsewhere.

Had fish and chip last friday the best fish and chips shop in town
PorkChopPickle
Resturant smells a bit like old fish. We only got chips but they were hot, really crunchy and had good salt.
Sam
@rod. You're a wanker mate, the fish cafe is great and the fish is fresh. Cook your own if you don't like it. Chips come in buckets and mayo is purchased in bulk in this industry.
Ben
Good crunchy chips but no beetroot on their burgers! Not even on a works burger. Apart from that, pretty good
