Review Punjabi Flavour - Brisbane

This was a surprise find. I was also surprised by the quality of the food served from the hotbox, especially since some of the google comments reflected bad experience. Tried the $15 all you can eat which came with three curries and rice. The curries were a little different from the other Indian places I went to, signature resembling North Indian cuisine. I would go again.

The Anise Club brings the perfect balance between low cost and delicious food. The $13 buffet represents great value for money, with a supply of unlimited naans (albeit thin) goes a really long way. I would recommend getting in before 5pm if possible, as it is generally quite busy, filled with young adults and locals after 5pm. The food could be of higher quality, but corners need to be cut to provide good food at good prices.

Butter chicken was Soo sweet and all the other curries were spicy even the dhal tadka. Naan was burnt and no butter or oil in it, it's just dry. Gobi Manchurian was saucy, couldn't feel the taste of Gobi only I can feel the tomato ketchup taste and spiciness. Hospitality is not like before. I came here many times in the past. It was one of my favorite restaurant. But I am missing the anise club I used to go before. Such a great disappointment...

Horrible experience... After reopening of the restaurant, food quality has become worse - curries are sooooo spicy, naans are burnt and more over the hospitality has become hostile.... We were a regular for almost 2 years and now on we wont be going back again!!!

The food here is absolutely amazing. Really amazing food. $15 for an all you can eat buffet of a fantastic selection of authentic Indian dishes incomparable to any other Indian restaurant anywhere. Great service. Great atmosphere provided by really lovely staff. The other point is that it's quick. You can be eating the most amazing food around within minutes of entering the premises. Both the quality of food, and value for money is 20 out of 5 stars.

Very nice food , amazing customer service, affordable prices. Thanks for the 11.99 buffet dinner last night.

Went for the all you can eat deal..nothing great..the place looks a little shady...the rice was stale and had crispy rice bits..won't go back.

The restaurant used to serve one of the best deals unlimited (non-veg and veg) buffet for just 12 dollars. However, on my last visit the food was nothing like what I remember having. Increased prices, (now 15) soggy naan's, unsanitary conditions, saw cockroaches on my last visit. Not going to come here again. The management have got greedy.

Sorry to report this was the worst Indian dining experience we’ve ever had. Everything was either overcooked, lacking flavour, or watery. The vegetable samosas were simply inedible – we threw them away. Together with a fairly significant proportion of the food we purchased – including the naan bread. And that goes strongly against our ethic. Won’t be going back.

A+ Indian food.
My mum and I shared two curries and some pappadums and we were both really happy. The food was really yummy and the waiter serving us was very sweet, knew the menu well and made sure we got the perfect amount of spice.
I'll definitely be back.
Only reason I didn't give a 5 is that the place itself is a bit shabby looking and I probably wouldn't have given it a go if it hadn't had such good reviews here.

Wonderful Indian prepared beautifully. We were a group of five and ordered a number of dishes, all made individually with its own spices and sauces. Awesome variety and good prices. Friendly and fast service with a homely feel. Decor suits that dining at home feel.

Best indian food we had in a long time. we had dal makhani, kadhai paneer. Both were amazing. We had ordered this through Uber eats and it was best experience through uber eats so far.

If you're looking for a nice restaurant with a fancy interior then I wouldn't recommend this place, but if you're looking for the best Indian food in Brisbane then I certainly would! It’s old, a little dingy inside but the food is amazing and the staff are all so lovely. A friend took me years ago right before moving overseas and since returning a few months ago, I have been about half a dozen times, if not more. Everything I have eaten here has been remarkable. The curries are so flavoursome and the naans are super soft and fresh, you can certainly tell they are made fresh in store. I love the fact that the curries have whole cloves, cardamom pods and pieces of cinnamon bark in them rather than just a generic, pre-made flavour base; you can really tell they take the time to ensure authentic flavours are in each dish. I would highly recommend the chicken korma, Penang curry and the daging masak merah.

I had been there on the occassion of my wedding anniversary and they made it special with some amazing seafood cuisine. We had bollywood prawns n bengal curry and it was a mesmerizing experience. Just too good food...its too contraditory to its looks

Went there with my partner for dosa for lunch on Sun. It was surprisingly good!! It really nailed the taste of Southern India. Will def go back for dosa on weekends again.

Great food, everything else decent. Pros; great Indian, back banquet table was filled by a large Hindu family, free street parking, friendly staff, I bit a seed pod while having a curry which makes me want to think they are grinding their own spices, paper towels in the bathroom, large menu = plenty to choose from, well priced, nice thick sauces (not watered down), across the street is a bottle shop perfect for their BYO

Cons; a bit slow with the service, we weren't given menus when seated so I had to get them myself, ambience is pretty lacking, they have a manual til system so there is larger possibility for error, one floor staff, needs music

Overall, pretty satisfied but I think we'll call in for takeaway next time.

Oily as sin. Ordered a takeaway tikka masala this evening and while the food was ready on time, it was not worth the money. Absolutely swimming in oil and I couldn't finish it. Such a shame as it smelled so good :-(

Yummy food for your Tummy !!!. We have been to this place multiple times now. Never a time the chefs disappointed us... Great food quality, taste, quantity... Good hospitality from people too.... Never miss trying this place...

Pricey but delicious. I personally love this place. I can't eat many hot/spicy things and this place was perfectly accommodating in my request for a very mild meal. It was mild enough that it suited my dietary needs but still full of flavour, rich and creamy with the perfect amount of spices. It's a little expensive but in my opinion for a night dining out with some friends, it is a good place to go.

Reaction from their food...possible MSG. I won't go there again. Hey,
I asked them did they use MSG in food as I am very sensitive to it. They said no, although it was an unclear no. Today I have woken up with many reactions to MSG.
I won't go there again.

Went here with friends for a reunion of our India trip. We agreed that it's the best Indian we've had since we've been home. The chicken biryani is the highlight of the dishes I've tried. Pretty large servings too.

Just moved into the area and have eaten here 3 times now. All 3 times the food was delicious and the service from the friendly young waitress was fast and friendly. I don't know about the "best in Brisbane" from some other reviews, that's a big claim, but damn it's good and I can see me becoming a regular.
Ken Perera
Delicious. Best Indian restaurant around. Only place I can confidently bring my fussy traditional parents for a delicious curry.
Mmfsurg
Fish head curry just like Singapore, although I would prefer mackerel head rather than snapper. Roti chennai taste like it was from a packet! Kobis goreng was v good as was the tea tahlik.

After eating from several different Indian restaurants, we were really disappointed in our meal. The customer service and naan bread was okay, but the lamb korma was too creamy and very bland. Won't dine here again.

Diana. Must make an effort to return here as I recall visiting when they first opened (a while back now when I lived at Highgate Hill) As I recall the food was not a bad experience at all & I remember asking for it hot & certainly got it!!

Without a doubt, hands down the best Indian in Brisbane and I like to think I know what I'm talking about. I go for the wkd lunch dosa which transports me back to India everything. its cheap, the staff are lovely, full of indians is the best sign of a great restaurant, and when I get Dinner I always end up taking half home as the portions are big. plus they don't even care if you eat with yours hands!

A very popular saying "Dont judge book by its cover", same applies to Riverwalk Tandoor as from outside it may not appeal as few other fency restaurant but who cares when the food is so delicious. Riverwalk Tandoor easily outclass all other Indian restaurant i have ever been to in Brisbane(40 plus restaurants). I recommend this restaurant for many reasons, some of them listed below:
1. Unlike most restaurants who claim "Authentic Indian Restaurant", but this one proves it.
2. Unique taste and consistancy in food.
3. Very reasonable price compare to other restraurants. Even lower price than India takeaway shops
3. Very friendly staff and their service.

Indian food is not just about curries and butter chicken, one must try its weekend lunch special "Dosa" - a unique and popular south indian dish.
My personal favourites : Dosa, Gobi manchurian, kadhai paneer.

Strongly recommended.

Great food, super relaxed atmosphere. I love Riverwalk Tandoori. The atmosphere is relaxed and I've always had good service and been happy with my meal. Meat samosa, chicken chennai, chicken cettinadu, goat curry, karaikudi lamb, and lamb madras are some of my favorites. For those nights when you just want to relax and eat some comforting food, I definitely recommend here. It's one of my favorites in Brisbane- cheap, no frills, delicious. Best Indian food I've had in a long time.
Slim
A bit hit-and-miss but when it's good, it's REALLY good! Authentic Indian at its best. Don't let the depressing decor fool you, this is worth a visit for sure!

Customer service ????. Food was average , the atmosphere of the place was very poor and cusotmer service is non existant , i would never go there again
Jmocha
Good tasting curry but the service was a disaster. Very classical south Indian/ Sri Lankan style Indian cuisines prepared very well. The curries were tasty but the portions of meat or fish in the curry are miserly for the price. To elaborate, we ordered 2 specials for the day which comes with roti and curry. The entree was served in one plate instead of 2 separate orders. The curry only consisted of one very small piece of fish and the entire dish was made up of gravy. The most disappointing aspect was the very, very poor and useless service. It took them almost 15 minutes before someone took our order and another whopping 1 hr and 15 minutes before we were served the initial dish after the order was placed. To make matters worse, they did not bring out all the dishes at the same time and instead brought them out in different intervals of at least 15 minutes aprt. When I complained about the long wait, the waiters excuse was that too many people came at the same time. The place was very busy and you have to excersice some super patients at the waiters logic of serving your dishes at diferent intervals.

Terrible food. We eat Indian quite often and were surprised at how bad out Indian main courses were last week. We could not eat them. It is hot with mainly chilli powder and no balance to the taste. Will never go back there. Was expecting much better
Team Chimmy
What a lovely experience! Warm and friendly service, AMAZING food. Can't wait to go back! The naans and the roti were delicious.

Not sure what the attraction is here, lots of cheaper options nearby, even cheaper and better Indian, stodgy food and underwhelming service.
Barbara Lndsy
Great value!. 2 girls paid $22 each, we shared: butter chicken, goat curry (delicious!), single serve plain rice and a whole naan each. So full after and we hadn't finished the rice or all the curry sauce. Service was ok :)
Definitely better than a Miss India and worth the extra couple of dollars.

What a failure!. Our starters arrived, we started eating. Then the main courses arrived as well!
The waiter said "sorry", but then proceeded to pull out a chair next to our table to put the dishes on! Not as though the kitchen would have been rushed - only about 4 tables filled - maybe 12 people.
The "medium" curry was too hot for our taste, and we like spicy hot food. Serves are huge. We ended up eating only about a quarter of what we ordered. Took the rest home in plastic, then threw it away the next day. And I love left over curry.
Had to send an explorer to the kitchen to find the only waiter, to get our bill. No tip, surprisingly!

Serve average, food amazing. Wow what a turn around. When I arrive the head waiter fumbled about and was a bit half-assed, nice bloke though. But when the food arrive we instantly knew we were on a winner. The Spicey Goat Curry was superb. Paneer and Chicken/rice dish (can't remember their names) were SO tasty and cooked beautifully. I wee bit greasy so don't eat it every night!! I won't both with other Indian in my area from now on - this is my boy!!!!

Magnificant. One of the best Indian restaurants that I've eaten at in Brisbane. A++++

Robust flavours and big portions ! The best briyani Ive had so far!! Daging alakandar was very tasty and aromatic n the meat was very tender!

Riverwalk TanDON'T. We were told our takeaway meal would take 10-20 minutes. 50 minutes later we got our food... and they'd forgotten the rice that we'd ordered. My mild curry was definitely not. This was not a good experience at all. I overheard another takeaway customer say to his friend that they always take ages. I wouldn't recommend this place if you need your curry in a hurry.

Riverwalk Tandoori Restaurant in Brisbane have the most delicious Crab Curry, Crab Masala and Malabar Fish Curry. i visited Brisbane from Toronto and on two weekends, enjoyed the food along with the dosa. Would highly recomend this restaurant. Excellent Food!!

Best dosais in Brisbane. Run by a genuine Penang mamak cook. Great dosais. Flips a decent roti canai too. Pity you can only have them for weekend lunch. But they do offer Malaysian dishes as specials on certain nights.

Best in Brisbane. The guys here know what they're doing. Try the Mango Chicken, it's awesome when you eat it, and if you're lucky to take it home and leave it in the fridge overnight it becomes trancendental the following day. I just did a follow up now and I'm enlightened.

I don't go anywhere else for curries in Brisbane anymore. I've done it a few times since trying Riverwalk the 1st time and get consistently disappointed with the other establishments.
Peri-Peti
Super like!!! The chicken chittinadu was sensational. After one mouth full, u just want to eat more, it's a good combination with roti or rice. Can't not mention the mango lassi. One word...Yumm!!! This restaurant is highly recommend. I will definitely go again for sure. Super delicious!
Sarah
Delicious. The restaurant setting is simple, yet the food is absolutely divine. Everything we have had here has been perfectly cooked and delicious to the taste, with the food quality consistent. The service is attentive and quick. This is by far, the best indian food we have had in Brisbane.

From the outside it may not seem enticing, but if you are willing to give it a go, you will not be disappointed.
Danita
Great biriyani!. Enjoyed a very good Malaysian Hyderabadi Biriyani which came with complimentary raita. The portion was generous. There was a $ for a tiny serving of chutney and the butter chicken, although plenty, was too sweet for my taste. Service was with a smile - overall 7/10.

Best indian food in brisbane. A delightful unassuming BYO restaurant in Highgate Hill.
The Saag Paneer is fantastic, but other dishes are superb too. Prepared to perfection.
