Review Jing Star Restaurant - Brisbane

Mini Jupe
Quite disappointed, to be honest. After reading so many good reviews. The service is friendly. Environment is clean. Beef noodle soup is plain. Sweet and sour fish is weirdly soft. Bi-carb? The stewing seaweed, tofu, eggs. Eggs are over-cooked, seaweed got a really weird chemical taste, we couldn't enjoy it. Beef roll is the best out all all the dishes. Maybe we were just unlucky that ordered those not so great dishes. It's ready sad to say that we won't return.

Authentic Taiwanese homecooked food and menu. The wait time is average 35 mins for both dine in and takeaway so make sure you have a reservations. I have been here for years and they seem to have cut some corners over the years - missing pineapples from the sweet and sour dishes . But it’s still good value and will come back .

Really nice home cooked Taiwanese food. Service was good, slightly slow on a busy Sunday but flavours were perfect. Serving sizes for main dishes were generous and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend ordering the scallion pancake and beef roll.

Great consistent food, always end up really full dining in this institution. Only downside is during peak, just expect a wait of up to 30 min so order early. Good food takes time

Very authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Generous portions. It's a small place so if you arrive at the wrong time, you may have to wait.

my fav Taiwanese restaurant. Consistent quality everytime. So delicious! I always come here when I visit from Melb. Recommend the 3 cups chicken, pickled cabbage W/pork, fried ribs or chicken, ginger shallot and beef stir-fry. So yummy!

The SanBeiJi (three-cup chicken) is the best 😋 Very authentic Taiwanese food

This restaurant is really nice. It serves traditional Taiwanese food. I had scrambled eggs with prawns and minced shallots. It is good value for money and not very expensive. They can serve food really fast so don't have to wait for long. I will go back and try several other dishes next time.

Our last visit was near the end of last year so should be the time to revisit.
Arrived in a group of three early 5:30pm in the weekday. It seems that take away orders are more than dining in that may due to the COVID impact.
We order the pan-fried shallot pancake, deep fried tempura with fish paste, chitterlings with preserved vegetables, mixed vegetables topped with egg and pork loin in sweet and sour. All dishes are quite tasteful with generous portion. Half mark was deducted for the over-charcoaled on the pancakes otherwise full mark was deserved.
Rating: 4.5/5
Previous rating: Nov 2019 4.5/5

Best three cup chicken I've had in Brisbane! The source is really good - a bit too sweet for my partner though - and the portion is quite generous. Definitely would go back :)

A very home styled restaurant with home cooked dishes that definitely reach out to you if you're missing some Chinese food from back home. The three cup chicken was a recommendation from a friend who told us that it was the best dish to try at Jing Star, so definitely had to try it. The chicken pieces were boneless and very flavoursome. The beef with spring onions was a bit overwhelming as you would assume there would be more beef than onions however, it seemed as though the ratio of onions to beef was almost even. The onions were definitely overpowering the beef. The beef was a bit overcooked and was quite chewy. The sweet and sour pork ribs was quite delicious however, could do with a bit more flavour and sauce. The braised tofu was one of my favourites - a good mix of tofu and vegetables and was very delicious.

The portion sizes were slightly larger than average so we ended up taking the leftovers home for dinner which were just as delicious reheated! Overall, all the dishes tasted very home cooked, and were not too oily which is always good. The dishes were not too salty but for the most part flavoured very well. A good restaurant to visit for some home cooked food!

On Thursday night when I got home super tired and was not up for any sort of cooking I remembered Ronnielui2003's review for this restaurant! So up we went for quick easy dinner to rescure our hungry tummy🤣

This place is located in the same complex as oishii sushi and handmade noodle shop on Main street just next to Pineland shopping centre. Sometimes it is hard to find parking as spaces are limited but fortunately I found one lucky last spot when I arrived around 7pm.

As soon as we entered the restaurant, noticed this place was more than half full and was buzzing with people. Looked around the restraunt it is simple with lots of menu items on chinese writings on the wall and few in English. Nevertheless, menu handed to us had a English with pictures so no trouble with ordering.

Beef roll hand tender beef inside with sweet matching sauce which I really liked. Sour cabbage stir fry was simple yet tasty. And fried fish was cooked well with good seasoning. Last of all, not to forget, milk tea was what I expected will taste like.

Overall, nothing fancy but great value and tastes good. 👍 I can see why this place is long lasting and supported by many locals.
I can only review Jingstar based on the Taiwanese Beef Roll I had from there which came from a recommendation by the owner of Plum Street. The skin was perfectly crispy, the beef tender and just the right amount of Hoi Sin sauce.....awesome!!!

Meeting up with my relatives for lunch brought me to this place, tucked away at the end of the small collection of shops in the Pinelands plaza region. Be careful though as our GPS said that 70 pinelands was actually the larger main complex, rather than the actual number 70 further down the road.

The shop itself is rather small, only a handful of tables, with a small service counter, and your typical menu items written in Chinese and some sporadic English on bits of A4 paper plastered here and there.

We didn't do the ordering, but not that long after ordering, dishes began to start streaming out of the kitchen and onto the table. Some were standard classics (like mince and beans with some chilli, salt and chilli fish, 3-cup basil and garlic chicken, etc), plus some weird dishes like prawn and pineapple with mayonaise... hrmm.

However, as weird as even the unusual dishes were, the quality and taste was more than passable. I didn't find them too salty or sweet, nor terribly oily, however my tastebuds have been for most of my life acclimatised to Taiwanese home cooking, plus many other restaurants of similar nature (as my relatives have a tendancy to hit up every new Taiwanese eating place to criticise them if possible, and then to decide if they should ever go eat there again, which obviously this place passes their litmus test with flying colours as they seemed to know the other regular customers who came in while we were eating there).

We had rice also served but it was pre-filled bowls of rice, rather than a mass self-serving situation, which was fine for me.

I would say that coming here, you're not going to get any atmosphere. What you will get however is fairly decent 'authentic' home-style Taiwanese cooking. If you're looking for high-end Taiwanese cooking, well, you'll probably not find it here either.

Hmmmm..... I came with friends a few nights ago....we had no plans on coming here but chose to give this place a try as all of us were pretty hungry and we were too lazy to drive far. When we entered, it wasn't busy busy - a few tables but not a lot of people all up. We were given our table, sat, and chose our dishes. The mixed vegetable with egg came first....the plus side was that it had a variety of vegetables...however the downside was that it was wayy to oily...had to drink numerous cups of water and tea to rid of the after taste. The three cups chicken was alright - again wayy too oily..and there wasn't a ton of meat on the pieces of chicken - just skin and bones, the flavour was there and not there if you get what I mean. We also ordered chicken with cashews which again was oily but this time no flavour. The service was alright but overall, the night was just so-so. If I had to come back... maybe wouldn't...deterred by the oily food and absence of flavour.

Terrible Service - Don't expect too much. If you're expecting large servings of food, accompanied with terrible service (i.e getting you to move tables when you're half way through your food, as well as not getting what you ordered), then here is the right place to come to! (Note the sarcasm)

From a Taiwanese restaurant that touts large servings at low prices, this place has been unsurprisingly popular for a long time at the Pinelands region.

Usually, you'd expect service to be wonderful here as well, since the waitresses are genuinely Taiwanese. Now, I'm not here to flame the Taiwanese for cooking bad food (I am Taiwanese myself and I am very proud of our cuisine), but I'd never had associated terrible service to come along as a package.

We ordered the light lunch sets with rice (with an egg on top), cabbage, and some tofu in sauce, as well as side dishes such as sweet and sour chicken, and stir-fried beef with tofu. Unfortunately the waitresses mixed up the stir-fried beef with tofu side dish with another dish, so we ended up accepting the other tables' dish (which was something very undesirable) with her flimsy 'sorry'. The food here is pretty average - I did enjoy my sweet and sour chicken with the rice.

Now, here comes the next part - lunch time is a disastrous time for quiet eating and enjoying food there (and I highly doubt dinner time is any better). As you'd expect, a whole crowd of people started coming towards the already full restaurant. Having no idea how to cope with all the customers waiting outside, one of the waitresses came and approached us, asking if we could move to a smaller table since they're so many people waiting outside whilst we were half way through our food.

First of all, we were half way through our food and already seated long ago these people had arrived. Secondly, when we first entered the restaurant, it was the waitress who had pin pointed the bigger table and allowed us to sit there whilst waiting for our food - my point here is saying that, we, as customers, didn't even choose our table, and yet, seeing the lunch time crowd, you're trying to get us to move? This is an unbelievely rude gesture to your customers.

Disclaimer: this review is based on my personal experience to this restaurant. I am no way personally attacking the staff/restaurant - usually I'd say that I merely want to see an improvement with my next visit to this place, but trust me, this is a place where I'll never step foot into again.

Not cooked. Driving pass Sunnybank hills with a friend and decide to visit this little restaurant. It was very quiet, but we thought we will give them some support.
But the food was slow to come out and the pork is medium rare, end up eating half of my plate. Tasted ok. Lucky I didn't get sick that night :)

Hidden bargain gem for Chicken Cashew! Real twist to the western style and love it! Would also recommend the vinegar cabbage with shredded pork. Two favourite dishes. Why order anything else!
