Felt like a pie and heard that there are some decent ones at The Jolly Swagman Cafe so dropped by on a day off. Got myself a steak and mushroom pie ($5.60) and sat by the counter observing a steady stream of customers roll through with their takeaway orders.
The pie was decent and had a few visible chunks of meat inside. I can't say I loved it though, and I'm nowhere close to recreating that memory from childhood. Maybe I'm not getting the right pies, or maybe it's a foolish quests. Then again, maybe I'm just after an excuse to try more pies - I've even got a little pie crawl in the works with a fellow pie lover, to check out a few other recommended pie vendors.
As for the Swagman, it's a local café that I do pass by often, so I plan to be back at some point to try other items, whether pies or other food. The staff are pretty friendly though I did get questioned on why I was taking photos around the place! 😁
Have not been back since Dec last year so made a special trip for a vegetarian brekkie. Ordered a mushroom, spinach and fetta omelette and a flat white. Service was very friendly.
Coffee came to the table first which was accompanied with a nice bear shape biscuit. Merlo coffee here never was good and never let me down. Omelette came about five minutes later and it gave me a shock due to the portions. Four slices of grained bread with a large egg omelette with caramelised onions, heaps of mushroom, spinach and fetta. Needless to say, I have to leave the carbohydrates behind otherwise my stomach will be full for the whole day.
Previous visits: Dec, 2018 4/5; June 2018 3/5; Nov 2017 4/5.
The pies and sausage rolls are pretty decent. The pastries I've had from there have been pretty good too (custard tart, eccles cake). The service has always been pleasant in my experience.
Thank you to the polite and helpful staff who assisted with getting a cake to my mother for Easter - she was delighted. Keep up the good old fashioned customer service
Nice but!!!. Food is quite nice here, but the services is terrible. If I wanted to be treated like a second class citizen, I would go to a place that is a lot better than this. To the school girl behind the counter that spoke us down, you are not the Queen. You are a service provider and need to learn how to treat your customers.
Fantastic cafe / bakery. Homemade quiches, lasagne, burgers etc. coffee is great and the cafe is decorated in a country style
Excellent pies, coffee and cake. Good sandwich bar and friendly staff.
Had a lovely visit with my daughter the other morning while my car was being fixed next door. A fab baby chino for the wee one and always lovely coffee and the best pies in town (love their Cajun chicken pie!!)
Nice cafe with relax environment. We ordered coffee and strong good taste. Burger is fresh homemade, yummy. Staff are nice and good manner. Good please to have breakfast and lunch!
Great food and reasonable pricing. Friendly staff and a good selection of food and pastries. Also the coffee was perfect.

A great little cafe. It is very popular with the truckies.
I had a jolly Swagman breakfast and for 14 bucks it was a huge plate full. I will have to try the pies next time as they looked amazing.
Best sausage roll in Brisbane.
They would have 5 stars but 60C for a sauce sachet???outrageous.
