This is our Sushi 💎 close to home. We visited for dinner with Phuong Tran and Mum. Knowing the Menu, we placed our order without much ado as we were the only patrons for the night.
*Sashimi is nicely presented and every item is super fresh. For $40 we expected a larger serving and I mentioned this to the Chef. Excellent Sashimi! Rating: 5
*Soft Shelled Crab and Unagi (Grilled Eel) Hand Rolls. Fresh salad is substituted for rice, making these Hand Rolls a light and refreshing entree. Rating: 4.5
*Rainbow Roll is a serving of 8 large pieces topped with Salmon and Tuna which are garnished with tri-coloured Tobaki. This Roll is delicious! Rating: 5
*Colourful World is a plate of Sushi Rice topped with Sashimi Salmon, Tuna, Kingfish, Scallops and Prawns then garnished with Salad, Wakame, Ginger and Tobaki. Beautifully presented, this is our favourite dish for the night. Rating: 5
The two Chefs double up as wait staff and are friendly and engaging. We will be back! Thank you Taiko Sushi!
Went there for dinner , the Sashimi were very fresh and tasty . The pumpkin base hot pot was faultless .The service was very good . Highly recommend
Hidden littler gem! This place serves great good quality sushi. If you want to try something different, give the mushroom sushi a go. It's delicious!
We enjoy sushi, and decided to look for something different and target location Sherwood. The reviews were decent so gave it a go.
We got there and there was no one else around but we went in, decided to sit outisde and it was cooler. Staff were friendly and service was good, as we were the only ones. Baby chair was asked and taken.
We ordered a few sushi dishes and a ramen bowl. The ramen was ok, wasnt the best stock was a little bland. The sushi on the other hand was great. Presentation was impressive to go with the taste, the serving size was quite large and we couldn't finish off the dishes.
If were want a nice sushi place to go in the future we prob go back here. Keep forgetting this place exist.
An amazing night last night. Â There were 5 of us, and we chose about a dozen different dishes off the menu and shared. Â Amazing food - fresh and very tasty. Â Prices were great. Â We'll definitely be back!
Had dinner with voucher in a group of four couple of months ago. Impression was good and loved to have IPPIN Sake being served in this restaurant again. The last time I had this sake was in the promotional event held at Izakaya Goku. Dishes were all passionately prepared and wait-staff were friendly to the edge of shyness. If they could present the dishes and told me what were those well- prepared dishes, it would make a perfect "full stop".
Had a seven courses voucher for four, had a lovely night. Thank you Taiko.
Basically, these seven courses were made up by small portion of ordinary Japanese food, such as Gyoza, Yakisoba (Japanese pan fried noodle), Vegie Tempura...However, Taiko do provide what they really want to deliver; friendly and prompt service with delicate food.
Would not say it is absolutely delicious, but for a voucher for four which only cost $75 Dollar, it is definitely worthy to have a go.
wow is the least I can say. we went to dinner here last night for our 15 Anniversary. thank you for the great food and venue.we will be back.Darryl & Caroline
Loved it. Tempura prawns, veges, calamari was amazing. Very friendly staff, beer was great on tap. BYO is ok too - $3ea corkage. Great atmosphere.  Will be going again very soon..
Menu update, friendly stafff!. We've been regulars for a while, back when their mains were $8 for the whole day. Recently they've done a menu change, and all the food is delicious! I meant to take a photo of the Wagyu Aburi, but I ate it before I remembered :( Some nights we have curry, some nights we have sushi. I had the cheese-curry Okonomiyaki once, and I almost had to be rolled out of the restaurant because I was so full. Their chicken Kaarrage is amazing, and comes in a variety of different dishes. They've also recently installed a sushi bar so you can watch their chef prepare your meal. There's a Sake tasting menu available, and I fully intend on getting white-girl-wasted in the following weeks. So if it's Sashimi, sushi, hot dishes or delicious beer, they have it. Eat there at least five times a month now. Highly recommended.
Great local. Sometimes you just have a hankering for okonomiyaki - this place ticks all the boxes! Sushi is ok for the price - don't expect super quality when the price is cheap. Good curry, takoyaki and tempura. Good hot food, nice service. We will be regulars!
Cute Japanese restaraunt. Used a Groupon deal for a small sushi platter. The waiter was polite and helpful with our questions. The service was very quick and came out over 3 courses, which was excellent.
The sushi a was of great quality, made fresh and presented beautifully on different platters.
The restaurant itself was quaint. Small yet nice for a couple or group of people.
Value for money, even without using the voucher. I will deffinetly be returning in the near future!
Really love the fusion sushi at taiko... See you next week
We had sushi platter take away for tonight and it was fresh and delicious test, we had tried so many Japanese Resturant in the past and taiko will be on our top 3 list. Customer service was great and staff are very friendly..
Thank you and keep doing all the good work. We will be back :)
Honest, Well-priced and Good Service. We went with a groupon and are surprised.
Yes the quality is average similar to what you get from a takeaway sushi store, but for the price I paid I found they are honest and generous.
We get 3 big long plates and 1 small plates = 60+sushi for less than $30.
Worth to mention they are just 2 minutes walk from Sherwood train station, so you can drink as much as you want without driving there. They also has $8 special all day you can choose from sushi, noddles or rice.
We will go back soon.
What a lovely find!. Anyone reading this - immediately go to Groupon to get your discount voucher for this restaurant. You will NOT regret it.
My father passed away 5 weeks ago and I finally managed to get my mother out of the house for dinner to start finding joy in the world again. Of course, it was a Japanese restaurant that we went to. the reason being that my parents used to travel to Japan every second year for a holiday because they loved the country, the culture, the people and the food.
To the reviewer who said that the meal wasn't authentic... Maybe it was a regional difference thing? Because even though our family is most definitely not Asian (outback bush people) - my mother and father have been to Japan many, many times and avoided the tourist traps and tried to only eat as the locals did.
We had the medium sushi platter (absolutely enormous and we ate way too much) and the miso soup. Both were delicious and my mother who has found only one other Japanese restaurant in Brisbane that she liked got a little teary that we had found this great place only minutes from her house only after Daddy had passed away.
I'm not going to discuss the food and argue points because you have to experience it for yourself.
I'm a little disappointed that I've forgotten the name of chap who served us because he was polite, helpful and actually a flat out delightful fellow. And it's such a great place that even the other customers were cheery, vivacious and generally included others in conversation and boasted about their meals and recommended other dishes for us to try next time.
This was a fabulous dining experience and I hope that the Groupon experience for the restaurant is successful in raising their profile because this little gem shouldn't be overlooked.
If you want no frills but good Japanese food for an exceptionally reasonable price then I'm very happy to suggest this place for your next dining experience.
My mother is already planning on a girls day out there with her friends. You can't ask for a better referral than that.
Groupon deal- thumbs up. I bought a groupon deal for the large sushi platter, I was concerned about the quality since it was a discount voucher but I needn't be! For my voucher I got an 88 piece fusion platter that was enough for our dinner and lunch the next day!
The sushi was simple but yum (don't expect creative gourmet fusion type sushi) and very fresh.
I actually have another voucher to spend there and can't wait to order again for a party.
One annoyance I had was trying to ring them....I got through to them once out of 10 calls...when they didn't answer it went to an answering machine for another restaurant. I'm not what's the go there...
I always enjoy Taiko for lunch. Sapporo on tap, more of a focus on Japanese food other than sushi. Let's face it, most bigger woollies have sushi so it's everywhere now. What I like here is the cheap, delicious food, atmosphere is great, the place could be in the suburbs of Osaka, Japanese music. I don't believe the other review about the miso etc. its fresh and delicate, like it should be. It's one of the reasons I come here , that and the giant handles of Sapporo
I'm on a (sushi) roll. Getting off the beaten track and heading into the burbs is working well for us right now - we have scored two home runs in three nights in the delicious food department. Last night - being a Monday (we never eat out on a Monday, but it was time to photograph the christmas lights) and knowing we would struggle to find somewhere open - we headed towards Sherwood (a place we never venture for food to be honest). Hubby had gotten takeaway that he rated ages ago at some chinese place opposite the Coffee Club, so that's where we headed.
On arrival the said Chinese was gone, but in it's place was a funky little japanese restaurant & bar, pretty busy for a Monday night and we do like all things asian, so we decided to give it a go. Firstly let me say it's a great little spot - fabulous decore, a little courtyard out the front with a really cool casual feel to it, then more seating inside. We chose the courtyard. Menu's come to the table, but then it is order at the counter - gotta love that, no waiting around.
We went with the gyoza and edmame for entree and whoa!!! Best gyoza I've had ever I think ... plump, moist and just downright delicious and a very generous serving of six - which is so much better than the standard five you seem to get just about everywhere else - no fighting over the last gyoza. The edmame were also a revelation, served cold - which was a surprise, used to my warm edmame - but coated in the most amazing marinade - there were cloves in there, some mirrin I think - way different to the usual salted version and I loved them. Biggest complaint, not enough lol.
For mains we had ordered sushi and a beef curry. Unfortunately this took forever - we waited and waited, then waited some more - began to wonder if it was ever coming ... the tummy's started grumbling. We don't mind a bit of a wait, but this was getting riduclous. Eventually they arrived on the table probably 40-45 minutes after our entree but with sincere apologies about how it was much busier than expected (it was pretty busy) and that there were only two in the kitchen - so they were forgiven. When we got stuck into the food - they were forgiven ten times over - it was incredible! The sushi is fusion in style - which I really like, had some great fusion sushi in Miami earlier in the year and am a little bit addicted to the concept I have to admit, hard to find though in Brisbane - anyway we had soft shell crab and it was out of this world. Freshly rolled with love and attention - a great little seaweed salad on the side, generous serve of pickled ginger - I was in heaven!!! The beef curry was also fantastic - flavoursome and a generous serve and the miso that came on the side was the best I've ever had. The prices were really good.
Now I did have the soy sauce and not sure about the poster here saying it was thick and weird - mine was just normal soy, not thick at all - usual consistency and tasted fine. There was a soy reduction of some sort on the sushi plate itself along with japanese mayo - both of which I loved - but there was the usual soy on the table for pouring yourself too. Anyway I loved every last bite and this place is yet another to go on my "I'm going back a lot" list ... thanks Taiko, excellent in every way and all is forgiven for the slow service!
Delicious. Ample seating indoors and outdoors. Friendly service. Miso soup had fish and another bowl had chicken - never experienced that before! Also had tempura broccoli for the first time, in my eel dish with rice. Toilets nearby, well-maintained. Nice decor. Quiet atmosphere. Parking available onsite. Table water provided. Loyalty card offers 1 stamp for every $10 spent, and $5 off your meal once you have acquired 20 stamps.
A colleague said it was "the best sushi I've ever had" and I can't disagree. Definitely recommend the finding nemo roll whilst my wife loved the colourful world plate. Seafood is very fresh and flavours of the rolls well balanced. It had a richer element which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Delicious food, good portions. Both indoor and outdoor seating available. Friendly service.
Good fresh fish. Hotpot beef portion was small but wasn't as pricey as some other places, so it balances out?
Two people, one sashimi place (20 pieces), one portion beef hot pot original and one small portion of salmon aburi Don was $74.
Love this place. Food is a little pricey but quality is what you pay for. Fish is the freshest in the area and the sashimi melts in your mouth.
Also love the super waygu rolls when Im not feeling fish.
Best sashimi this side of town. Everything super fresh and made for you when you order. Couldn’t fault the food. Can’t believe it took us that long to go there. A must for locals.
