Used to go to this place a lot years ago - it was a go-to but went there recently and it was not the same.
Had their chicken laksa but it was just noodles, chicken, and about 4 slices of fish cake. It predominantly tasted of coconut milk. Had no laksa flavor at all. Not worth the price. Saddest laksa my friend and I ever had.

Great little Vietnamese restaurant/take away in the middle of the diverse Sunnybank Plaza. Friendly staff and fast service, my dad brought me here to try traditional Pho for the first time. Would highly recommend this place.

Ordered lemon chicken with rice which cost about $14.50. Guess what meal was like?
It was just fried chicken(not much meat in it) with lemon sauce and rice. That's it. No veggies, no soup, or no water they supplied.
And IT WAS $14.50. WHAT A JOKE.
So disappointed.
Not recommend it at all.

Good food at reasonable prices.

Quick and friendly service. The meals were good, too.

I am not sure but think this place possibly has changed ownership. It was our go to Place for a quick bite to eat however never again! One star is for the bok choy in light garlic sauce .... the sizzling beef was digusting - it didn't come out on a sizzling plate nor was the meat sizzling. It had 2 eggs slapped on the plate and the meat stunk. 3 trips to the toilet before we even left the plaza and a mad dash to the hotel's toilet for both my partner and I shortly after ... not good!

I have ordered the Hanin chicken else where and to say it was a disappointment at happy bowl is a understatement.
No flavour, and rice was dry and then the sauce they provide was very unbalanced and almost inedible.
SARAH
Not bad. Food here is actually good. Will come back. Don’t get fool by how it looks. The foods here is actauly okay

Have not been back nearly one year so gave it a go for a quick lunch.
Ordered my favorite Hue’s Spicy Noodle Soup. What it served is slightly different from other Vietnamese eatery. Broth is quite similar but noodles are thinner. Having said that the flavour is good and portion size is acceptable. If it serves customer free water instead of forcing them to buy for the drink. A higher mark may be deserved.
Rating: 3.5/5
Previous rating: July 2019 3/5; Jun 2016 3.5/5

This place is awsome it does huge portions of amazing comfort food with really low prices and consistently good, other things nearby might outshine it in one or two of the previously mentioned categories but none all of them.
Madam Oriental Eating.
This place is not authentic with their Viet dishes.
The one thing every ‘Viet place’ claims to do is pho and all I can say is that their pho is ‘meh’ it ain’t great. I ordered hi tieu as well and omg, they brought me some random soup with some the rice noodle they used in pho.
That’s not called hu tieu. So because it’s not catered to Viet they are clearly flexible with their dishes and don’t need to be authentic.

Very very disappointed. Had Hainan chicken rice and pork rolls. There were only four small pieces of chicken. No ginger sauce only oil with sugar and vinegar in a tiny saucer. The pork rolls were just as disappointing. 90% lettuce, the rice paper rolls were inedible Paid $20. Worst restaurant in Sunnybank.

Always walked by this place whenever we go to Sunnybank and one day I thought, we should at least try it. We ordered combination beef pho, wonton noodle soup and some spring rolls to try. It was average. I have been spoiled over the years by pho places in Inala and I think that this place just doesn't stand out for me. The spring rolls were meaty but tasted more like vegetarian style. The wonton noodle broth was not as good as we expected it. I wouldn't go out of my way to have pho noodles here when I can just have other good foods in Sunnybank.

Still needing a Beef Pho fix I decide to give Happy Bowl a try. This Vietnamese restaurant has been here for decades! I see the Owner/ex-Chef who has operated here for 15 years watching over the restaurant. I am told a younger family member runs the kitchen now.

Service by the waitresses is friendly and they are helpful with the extensive menu. I place my order and within minutes my salad and herbs arrive. I see Coriander (wrong herb) and ask for Basil! Sorry, they have run out!🙁

My steaming hot Combination Beef Pho (Dac Biet) is served without garnishing so the presentation is only average. Tasting the broth, I am surprised by its depth and flavour. Delicious! There is adequate sliced Beef Brisket, Sliced Raw Beef, Beef Tendon and Beef Balls. But there is no Beef Tripe!

I enjoy this bowl of Beef Pho but points are deducted for the missing Basil and Beef Tripe, essential ingredients for this meal. Pho An from Inala, a highly rated Beef Pho restaurant, will be opening 50 metres away. Competition is coming! I will return in a few months to update this review. Thank you guys!

Was not bad tasting but the boiled chicken instead of grilled chicken made the dish bland, and was lacking in herbs. EG mint. There was also a hair in the meal. Overall felt like it was lacking in effort and care. Not horrible tasting though.

Happy Bowl is one of the oldest pho places in sunny bank but was never great. However new owners have made this the BEST PHO IN BRISBANE. Turned it around 180 degrees. Well priced, good high quality noodles, flavoursome meat. Enjoyed the extra large size.

Seriously really poor service, waitress gave attitute when i requested chilli. No staff members know how to smile. Food is alright for a quick feed but little options to choose from. Won't be eating here anymore

It was my first time here and ordered the vermicelli noodle salad with grilled pork. The weather had been hot/humid for weeks on end, so a spicy pho was a no-go for me.

The place was very well lit, clean, and seating was comfortable enough. The serving size of the salad was quite generous and tasted fresh. In my opinion the dish represented great value for under $12. I was left feeling very full. Although a little more meat would have been appreciated. Then again, I'm somewhat a Meatasaurus Rex.

The service wasn't what I'd call 'out of this world', however it was passable: They come to your table. You place order. They take order. They bring food. Done.

I feel the staff on the day could have cracked a smile here and there to lighten the mood which in my opinion would have made for a better experience. That was the let-down for me.

Thumbs up:
- fresh tasting salad
- tidy/clean place
- great value

Thumbs down:
- stand-offish vibe from staff

Would I go back?
- Sure. For a big bowl of vietnamese noodle salad with pork under $12, I can forgive them for being a little expressionless.

Great food, friendly staff! I get vietnamese pork chop salad and its always fresh and very tasty! Would highly recommend! Cheap and good quality! Lots to choose from on the menu also!

Have eaten here for past 10 years and addicted to their lemongrass pork and noodle soup ( egg) the broth is one of the best. Also their deep fried wontons are a great starter before noodle soup. A must try

I love this place. The service may not be full on, but damn the food is good. I definitely recommend the happy bowl without noodles, just lots of bean shoots. Will certainly be going here again
Not the best Viet food around that's for sure - but still reasonably priced and tastes quite okay.
The vermicelli salads are fine. The pork chop with rice is okay (unfortunately not broken rice). The fried tofu is good - for person who does not usually like tofu. Always like their tricolor shake too as a nice sweet drink.
Self service for sauces and water which is fine with me.
The Food Oracle
A little cafe in the Sunnybank Plaza. It seems a tad grimy and a bit past it's prime. Went here in a pinch as my friend had been here before. Food was okay, I had the pork chop. The pork was tiny, the loaf thing was nice, I was hoping for broken rice as the usual accompaniment but alas the rice was unbroken (normal plain steamed) rice. Service was unpleasant, but that is standard for Viet places. I didn't like that the condiments were by the counter and not at the table as you have to go up there, get a little disposable container and fill it. Firstly ots terrible for the environment, secondly I dont know how much sriracha I am going to want!
Gah. Not worth a return visit.
I'll go to Kim Son for porkchops, a much more generous and tasty serve.

For a place called Happy Bowl the people that work here are anything but happy.

When we arrived no one spoke to us. Eventually someone shoved menus down on a table and said "sit!"

I'd be happy with poor service if he food was great but it wasn't. Really gross laksa and a dish of stir fry noodles had a huge mound of bean sprouts underneath to make the dish look huge.

Hilarious experience but won't go back.

Dined at this restaurant twice. Reasonably priced, average service, food was a bit blend. Overall, meh~ there are plenty of better places than this.

It used to be nice and we went here frequently, but then it got really shit for a really long time. Won't be returning for awhile though....

Dined here quite a few years ago & remember very authentic Vietnamese food. On a recent occasion was below average although the cafe is always bustling. Not a lot of spicy hit to the food & the laska was bland

My first time here was when the sunnybank food trial was on and tried their $2 laksa. After walking around for a bit I decided I needed the full meal. Laksa here is absolutely delicious.
Gloria
Food is way below average, the stir fried noodles with beef, I think they put a whole onion in there, not much noodles, the beef tasted a bit funny, and they all drowning in oil!

Consistent Asian meals. The Happy Bowl is one of a dozen or more small outlets in or near the Sunnybank Plaza Food Hall. We invariably eat there before we see a film at the nearby Cinema 8 Complex. Having dined there perhaps forty times over the past five years, we can give it a reliable seal of approval. The staff remember our favourite meals and are surprised when we try something different. The food is tasty and consistent.

Yummy yummmo!. Definitely one of my favorite restaurant. I been dining there every fortnightly since a years ago when I got attracted by their shop appearance. Love their beef soup and dry noodles and de fried wonton! Yummmo! Restaurant is kids friendly and de waitress is lovely too. 10/10. See u all next week!

Not So Happy Bowl. Have eaten here before on several occasions and it has been reasonable - probably the relatively low prices keep me going back. But not any more. I had the Wonton noodle soup dish and it tasted just ok. However it went thru me like a freight train. My wife also shared the same meal and it affected her the same way. There are plenty of other places to dine around the area, so this place has lost my business for ever.

Used to dine here 12 years ago and loved it. Relocated back to brissy and tried again yesterday. Soup was still good...fried rice tasty but really oily.
Staff still friendly. We enjoyed and will be back.

Happybowl for years. I have been dining at Happy Bowl for about 7 years now. The food is well priced and the servings are generous. Sometimes it can be inconsistent (for example sometimes the soups taste amazing other times they are bland) but this is a family owned restaurant and I like to support family businesses. I always come back and i love it.

Happy Bowl has average food, it is simple. What I like about this place is that you order and get your food so fast. Never have to wait
Mayday Boy
Average at best. Pho88 closed down so had to find a nearby alternative.

The pho was average, big bowl for the price which was ok. But only offered beef + noodles as opposed to the usual beef, beef balls and noodles. Also a pitiful amount of bean sprout and basil.

The combination chow mein was also pretty average. The noodles taste like 40c packet of instant noodles.

I just had the worst laksa ever. Bland soup that wasn't even remotely flavourful or spicy, and horribly undercooked noodles. And it was $14.90! I ate very little, in fact I decided not to torture myself further and went to eat lunch elsewhere. I recommend Vietnam Corner instead, it's outside the main plaza building, underneath the carpark. They have kick arse lemongrass chicken and they are much cheaper.

Up & Down. This place can be very inconsistent with it's cooking. Their Ups & Downs can be quite irritating at times as I only order the same few dishes everytime I visit there. Example: I order a Black Pepper Beef with Rice today and it'll be perfect... tomorrow I order the same thing and it'll look completely different and taste different. The 3 color ice can sometimes be more one day and be very minimal next day. I really wonder who works inside the kitchen and who checks the dishes before coming out. I know the first owner and that was when this place was at its best. Now I rate this place 5/10.

Good food. Quick service. Always delicious. I recommend the Beef pho. Always nice to have on cool, windy days :-)

Yum. I'm quite surprised at the other reviews. I've always been happy with Happy Bowl. The restaurant is always clean, tidy, and bustling. Tasty, fresh, huge meals every single time. Never been disappointed. Recommend Tomato Beef.

Mediocre. Nice clean restaurant , reasonable laksa, horrible wonton noodle soup.
Expensive, won't be back

Stingy owner.. I went today but left very angered, firstly, the older woman that works there loves to stare and watch us and it is extremely uncomfortable as she probably thinks we will run even though it'd be hard to dine and dash in a place like that. Secondly, unfortunately (although it was my own fault) I was .80c short, I had $40, (which was overpriced too) some of the drinks weren't included in the menu, assuming it'd be just around $3 because of other local Vietnamese restaurants selling drinks for that price and less. I left my cousin waiting for me while I went to find .80c somehow, I had to go all the way to my car and back, and I returned to my cousin saying that we actually owe them $1.80 because the casier miscaculated.
Yes I understand it is a business but really .80c?
We would've happily returned (with more money) if they weren't too stingy already but I will never return again and will tell my family and friends to not go there.
I actually dislike the older woman who works there because of this reason, how she uncomfortably evil stares at you while you are trying to dine in her restaurant and then adding $1 even though we were already 80c. short and I had to leave the goddamn restaurant just to find some coins which I ended up transferring money into my bank account which took a while too.

I don't recommend this place, the food was average, if you feel like Vietnamese food in Sunnybank just cross the road to Market Square, trust me you won't regret it, where the food is actually good, service is better and it is cheaper.

Gives Vietnamese Food a bad name!. This restaurant has very modern clean decor, and hence pretty comfortable atmosphere. That's about it.
The food is awful... Reason - they take short-cuts in making the 2 dishes that we ordered.
1. Cubed Dice Steak with Rice - the beef should be marinated and GRILLED, and then a 'gravy-sauce' poured over... instead it was pan fried... so there's no crunch to it at all.
2. The Wonton noodle soup dish - was inedible. The wonton pastry was rock hard, and the broth: it tasted like it was flavoured by onion flavoured instant noodles!!!

It's sad to see these places exhist - I know they're trying to make a living, but you guys are really giving Vietnamese Food a bad name.

We were quite disappointed with Happy Bowl. There was nothing wrong with the service and the environment was quite nice compared to other eateries around Sunnybank but the food just didn't cut it. Both bowls of noodles weren't even 'acceptable'. They were
