Really slow service at a somewhat busy restaurant offering a wide variety of sushi and rice dishes at very affordable prices. Takeaway options are available. The sushi is of very low quality and not fresh. Takeaway presentation of dishes is terrible. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Great food, quality is a little low however for the price point its great. Love the tempura.
David Inderias
Not great quality sushi or customer service. Very very slow service.
It always seems empty. Ordered takeaway rolls and had to sit for 15 minutes because they had to run and get corn from Coles.
I would not recommend this place, nor will I be returning. There are many other sushi places throughout Brisbane with tastier, higher quality product, and swift service.
Again... avoid.

Was terrible, the ginger has a heaps of flies, when we ordered sushi I saw the chef didn’t use gloves and when I ask “sorry I don’t wanna be rude but why he doesn’t use the gloves” the manager replied “no no because he washed his hands” 🤦🏼♀️ .. and the chef insult me own his language, (yes I understand you 👌🏻 thanks for that) anyway we feel so disgusting, just we paid but we didn’t take the food. If someone wanna die, then going to take one free meal has already paid.

I have been to every sushi train restaurant in brisbane, EVERY, and this one is by far the best.
It is not classy. The service is average.
However, the sushi is extremely well made for the price that it costs. The white dragon literally melted in my mouth as I bit into it, and the black dragon offers 6 pieces of eel in sushi form when most eel-dons only offer around 3-4. I have moved to the coast for a couple of month but still rode the train to dine here.

Worst Service.
Half my meal was missing when i got it via uber eats, i asked for extra different sauces and paid for them and not only was there no extra, they took all the sauce off. Pathetic. I also called various times and NOBODY bothered to answer the phone. Not once, Not twice, but 5 times throughout the day. They have completely lost my business.

Good value and tastes good. I especially like the mini $7 vegetarian croquette with rice or tempura vegetable with rice. Take away long rolls are really good value too. And good service

Food is fine. The restaurant is dirty. The train has old food, dust and mould in the tracks. The walls are dirty. The seats are broken and very squeaky. Packet wasabi and soy.

Nice and cheap food with friendly staff, always my go-to place for a quick lunch! Highly recommend the chicken karage don: very nicely seasoned with perfection portion of chicken!

Haven't been here for many months, used to go here regularly. Things have changed. Really quiet this lunchtime with hardly any food on the train or customers. The doors were wide open on a 28 C day and there were flys everywhere. I mean everywhere. On the plates, in the kitchen, flying in your face. Of the 2 guys making sushi only one had gloves on. The one without was touching everything in the place, fridge handles, wet cloths, plates then prepping food. When we saw a fly land on the food they were making we just left, we won't be back

Popped into Tenkai for some takeaway sushi a few nights ago. Excellent takeaway prices - most sushi rolls are $2.20-$2.50. The dine-in prices range from $3-$5 per plate.

Went with the Unagi (grilled eel) and the Salmon & Avocado. My first impression was that there wasn't much eel or salmon, but I can't really complain given the price. That said, the ratio of rice and Nori (seaweed wrapper) to filling was off - too much rice and the Nori was too thick for the amount of filling within. The Unagi rated 3-3.5 and the Salmon & Avocado rated 2.5-3.

The little packages of wasabi are very poor quality. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they use real wasabi when dining-in.

We went specifically for the lakes. Delicious flavour, great heat, really lovely to eat.

The restaurant is a little shabby and could do with a thorough clean.

Quite busy so turnover is good.

I'd go back.

Hands down my favourite sushi train in Brisbane. The fish is always fresh and generously portioned, but it's the rice in the sushi rolls that sets this place apart from all others--the texture is just perfect, and there's never too much of it to overpower the contents of the roll. The atmosphere is perfect for a sushi train--nothing fancy whatsoever, just grab a stool, grab your sushi and enjoy. The only hot dish I've tried is the tempura udon--very nice and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for no-frills, delicious train sushi!

Landed in Brisbane after flying in from Auckland today, and a horror drive into town staying nearby, resulting in wanting something quick and simple to eat for dinner. This was really the only non-pub option in the nearest vicinity. Walking in, the immediate impression was it would be a 'cheap' kind of place to eat as the food choices were on laminated printed paper, stuck on the walls, with additional laminated strips of hand-written labels and prices.

The interior was simple, and a short sushi train ran in the middle section. The seating was a bit strange with high bar-stool type of seats, which isn't really the best for eat-in though I guess it was probably more designed in mind for the sushi train component, but they made all of the tables that same height.

The menu was variations of a theme, primarily Don (rice bowls) and Udon, with variants of curry, or 'classic' types like honey chicken, katsu, una etc. They had some vegetarian options also.

The place was fairly empty at nearly 8pm at night, and sushi was going around on the track, which begs the question of how long they had been going around, and the premise wasn't exactly a 'chilled' environment.

My wife ordered a honey chicken Don, and I a pork belly Don.

Unfortunately, we both heard the microwave being in action for prep of our food, and it was evident that the pork belly was the main culprit. The honey chicken was passable according to my wife, the pork belly was also just on passable. The fat was still very firm, not at all sufficiently rendered in the braising sauce that it should have been to have that delicious melt-in-mouth and gelatenous feel you want, along with that sweet-salty asian/teriyaki braising sauce. On the plus side though, making up for the lack of the quality of the meat, the quantity of both the meat and rice was good. The honey chicken Don however had the same amount of rice, but not the same amount in both the chicken, nor honey glaze sauce, which is evidence once you start getting into the dish itself.

Finally, another reason why I wasn't able to give this place an average of 3.0, was that the general cleanliness wasn't, the tabletops were grimey, the menu's grimey, they had empty take-away containers open on one bench with a container of some kind of liquid, and packets of wasabi sachets, no doubt for packing take-away in, and another table had a roll of paper towelling on it and napkins strewn across it. Sure, it was a late Wednesday night, but when you have two guys cooking/making food, and one girl floating behind the register and the kitchen, it would have taken all of 2 minutes to put the paper away, put those containers away into the back or somewhere else, and maybe 10 minutes (since it was very dead) to actually clean down. Sad, but thats just how the impression came through.

tl;dr - Passable food for the price, a little on the grimey side, unsure about the age of the offerings moving around on the track.

As someone who has eaten a considerable amount of sushi all over Brisbane in the past ten years, this has been my go-to place for sushi for the last few years. Delicious, consistent, reasonably sized rolls and relatively cheap, which I've found is an almost impossible combination in Brisbane nowadays. Also the same (fantastic) girl always seems to be on front of house. I don't even have to order now, she knows my order perfectly.

Good cheap sushi. I went here for a quick dinner around 8pm on a Friday night and wasn't hoping for much from the varied reviews. It's really not a bad place, though the furniture is a little old. It was clean and there wasn't much on the train, which meant everything I wanted I ordered fresh. Being a uni student the price is also spot on.

AMAZING!. It was amazing, the take away sushi is just 2.20 and they make it fresh which means the meat is still warm and the sushi wrap is still moist yet retain thats tenderness, Amazing, have been there three times in a row and i cant stop loving it

The best teriyaki and chicken bowl in brissy!

Service was adequate, reasonably priced sushi.

Sushi on the actual sushi train may not have been as fresh as as compared to some other places around town.

Very reasonably priced delicious sushi

Flavourful but scrimped on the meat. I ordered the Karage. Although the service was quick and freindly, I dont think I will be returning. The meal was delicious and flavourful, the aromas emitted were truly capitivating... However, there were only 3 small pieces of meat and 4/5 of the container was filled with rice. As the dish was covered in rich curry sauce I didnt realise this until I had taken the meal home and started eating. A little dissappointing I'm afraid.

We love this place and go there multiple times a week :-) both the sushi and items from the hot menu are fresh, delicious, prices are very reasonable and servings are generous. The staff are nice and they work really hard...we notice its the same chefs and waitresses working whenever we go- day or night! Anyway, give it a try! Lots of sushi and menu items to choose from so there's bound to be something for everyone to enjoy :-)

WOW. Tenkai Sushi is the BEST sushi place I have ever come across! As a regular, I go there at least 3-4 times a week! I LOVE it! Seared Salmon is above my sstandards! Customer service and sushi was perfect. Fresh, fast and cheap!
They recently have introduced a wider variety and cheaper menu, which means more bang for your buck!
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! I Highly recommend it!

The food was very average. The service was poor. The waitress seemed more interested her phone. Would not bother going back.

Yummy Sushi. I have found that if you go during the lunch time rush, the sushi is always fresh and tasty.

The customer service is prompt and helpful.

The only negative I have found, is that they do not make hand rolls, which breaks my heart!!!!

Definitely not Japanese. My friend purchased the voucher for Tenkai after seeing the high rating on Urbanspoon and invited me to have dinner with her.
We had 2 plates of sushi. One of the plate was ok but the other was not fresh.
I was so glad that we didn't pay full price as the cha-shu ramen we've ordered tasted nothing like Japanese!
It was super salty and peppery. Instead of seaweed, they've put Chinese cabbage in the noodles?!
The service was alright but I don't think anyone that works there are Japanese as they all spoke in Chinese.
Maybe they have changed hands after all the good reviews, but what I had definitely does not deserve a high score.

Best sushi in the world. Awesome restaurant friendly and helpful staff and extremely good chefs who obviously know what there doing.
I am a repeat customer as it is delicious food and a relaxed setting.

Reply to Happy Tummy's Review. As the owner of the restaurant to see this review makes me hurt. First of all I need to apologize to the customer about the miscommunication between our staffs. There is always room for improvement, we will work hard on that. Thank you for the criticism. However, there are things that need to be straighten. Firstly, the seared salmon was freshly made and there were two customers watched the whole process. Secondly, talking about disgusting. I can't say our seared salmon was the best, but all our returned customers loved it. I am sorry that you didn't like it, but is it too harsh to say disgusting? Maybe there was some misunderstanding from the terms and conditions of our voucher offers. So far, our customers thought it's a very good deal and they willling to accept our offer. All reviews were positive, if you don't like our offer at the first place, I would suggest our customer to get refund insdeed of not enjoying their meal. This is a nor profit voucher, and the point of the promotion is to get more customers have a little taste of our food anyway.

Worst Sushi Restaurant I have dinned at.. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTURANT!!

The reason we went to this Sushi resturant is that I purchased a promotional voucher and of course trusted the extremely high rate received on this site. The waitress and manager had poor communication and interpersonal skills. Once we were sitted we were told that we could choose ANY meals from the pictures on the wall but the one that we chose was not allowed. The waitress forgot to bring us our miso soup. Before ordering our sushi plate we were told to choose the sushi already prepared and ran on the train which were not many to chose from. Because this exclusion was not indicated on the voucher and we wanted the seared salmon, we questioned this and showed the voucher fine print on the phone. First of all, the waitress told us that the kitchen was closed already so we must choose our sushi from the train. But when we spoke to the manager, she took our phone away into the kitchen with out our permission and appeared a short while later and allowed us to have the sushi we requested. The seared salmon came out from the back not from the sushi bar and tasted old and it was completely covered by mayonnaise and strangely came with teriyaki sauce underneath it. I was with my Japanese partner and we both could not eat the sushi even though it is our favorite as it tasted really disgusting and not edible.

The service was bad, the food was bad, and the restaurant was not tidy.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTURANT!!

A 10hr drive later, we ate here for a fast lite bite before collapsing into bed.Great meal, good selection with main meal hot options that some sushi spots don't provide. We needed a beer after the long trip so as it's BYO the friendly staff directed me to a bottleshop next door! How convenient. If ones choice wasn't on the belt the attentive waitress was quick to shout your order to the chefs in typical japanese fashion which proved novel for our five yr old. Would go again!

AWESOME!. I eat here a couple of times a week. The food is extremely fresh and their sashimi is exceptional. I've eaten at heaps fo sushi restuarants and this is by far the best. highly recommend...especially the vegetable curry!
