Passed by and stopped for dessert. Was excited to see interesting flavors for thick shakes.
Loved the peanut butter chocolate thickshake. The waffle is good though the size is rather small. Coffee was good too. Our waitress was an absolute delight.
On my way home after an afternoon fishing session, I visit for a quick dinner with a 30% Eat Club discount voucher. Greeted by the friendly waitress I am promptly shown to my table and I ask her for a large Lemon Bitters to quench my thirst.
My Sirloin Steak and Hot Chips ($33) is served in under 30 minutes. The Steak is perfectly grilled and the French Fries are piping hot. I enjoy this simple meal and it hits the spot. Well done Guys!
Ordered a burger, fish taco, chips and peanut butter thick shake from Uber Eats and we were not disappointed! Everything was delicious and tasted super fresh. The thick shake was amazing!!
Went here a few times. The first time was fine - food, service, drinks were on time and served in a friendly manner. The second time the waitstaff heard us wrong and brought one correct order and one wrong one which we didn’t order, which was fine. But we let her know this as soon as the order arrived and nicely, and she took the plate away abruptly, which was needless to say - rude.
Then we decided to give this place another chance and this time it was good - great service again, my food was really really amazing, hits all the right spots, cooked perfectly and I was very, very happy about it (fried chicken). Food-wise: a lot of care is taken to ensure the food tastes amazing, service is amazing only if you got certain staff.
It was one early Sunday when I was looking for a place to have brekkie around 6:30am and mist if the cafes have not yet opened. All of the sudden, I saw the light coming out from this restaurant so rushed to go in. I was warmly welcome by a friendly staff who asked me for orders after I perused the menu. I decided to go for a western omelette to go with the flat white. Coffee was smooth and well presented. The appreciation was on the omelette. Lots of ham, tomatoes and cheese showed how generous was the chef. Importantly, it was very tasteful and I was glad to come for brekkie. Certainly, I will return in the future. Cheers!
Ate here on a sunday afternoon and I was impressed with the burgers here! Good quality angus beef, perfectly cooked with great flavour. Chips were great too.
Thought we would try out this freshly renovated & leafy new baby for breakfast. We were ushered to a table straight away which was pet friendly. There is a simple breakfast menu & the coffee is very good. My order of the Avant Gard was a vegetarian pattie of kale & quinoa. The addition of the avocado mouse sitting prettily surrounded by piped whirls of hommous with red chillies on top was a winner for me. Partners bacon & egg burger was huge & tasty, but we didn't seem to think the hashbrown was homemade as described, rather greasy & looked like a frozen supermarket version
I came here for lunch and had the fish tacos. There were two tacos in the serve so only two small pieces of fish. The tacos looked good and also tasted okay but they were certainly not exciting. There was a spicy sauce in a squeeze bottle on the table but when I saw an ant crawl out the hole in the top I decided not to have any. I had onion rings to share with my dining partner. We both enjoyed them and they came with a nice dipping sauce. Overall, there was nothing wrong with the meal but nothing compels me to return when there are so many great options in Brisbane.
And then I chose crab salad. Well, who wouldn't? I enjoyed this fresh and zingy dish. Thankfully the green leaves as per the menu were lettuce (cos or butter?) rather than the ghastly weeds you mostly get these days. (Join my sister and me in the anti-rocket and other bitter weeds movement.) This salad had radish and fennel, sandcrab and avocado. Delightfully fresh, with some actual crab in it, not just a shred or two. I felt very virtuous eating this rather than a stodgy burger.
And speaking of burgers, Mr P. had the 5B vegan version, filled with a housemade black bean, quinoa and corn patty. Hubby said it needed a sauce (a common refrain of his), and that the patty was a bit bland and needed some spice. Other than that, he enjoyed it.
Thank heavens these onion rings did not have sweet batter. It was a thin and non-sweet coating on the onion rings with a spicy chipotle sauce. Mr P. and I wolfed these down. The rustic fries were thin and crispy with a choice of mustard or ketchup. You pay $7 for the large size, but regular ($5) did us fine.
There is lots to recommend this place: lively atmosphere, friendly staff, quick service. You can dine in or take away; you have a choice of burgers, tacos and salads as well as slightly unusual items like American BBQ - pork back ribs, beef brisket and short ribs. There is beer on tap, plus cocktails, cider and bottled beers.
Great night out with the family for dinner. Pork ribs were divine. Beef not quite as good. Service was very friendly, prompt and helpful. Definitely coming back.
Love this place, always begging my partner to come here. Love the fries, love the burgers, love the onion rings, beer selection is quite good. Love love love!
I have been wanting to try this place since it opened, I was pleasantly surprised by the store it's self, it looks very cool and hopefully will set a precedence for the other stores in racecourse road. As for the food... The burger was the most beautiful thing but unfortunately it just lacked something in flavor? Maybe it was because I had to get take away, or maybe because I was expecting the world but it was just eerrrr nice. In saying that I will definitely be back because I hear the ribs are to die for!
I live in the local area and decided to check out 5 Boroughs because of its street appeal. Compared to many other Racecourse Road cafes and dining spots, it looks modern and fun and seems to always have a lot of customers.
I ordered the Steamed Bao Buns and two sliders (Chicken and Classic), as well as a side order of Cheese Fries.
My boyfriend ordered the Ice Tea and we where so surprised by the fact that it was bottomless. Most places do not offer this to customers so this was great for us. I ordered a Cappuccino which was nice, but certainly no better or worse than I have had anywhere else.
Firstly, the presentation of the food is delightful. Everything looks very delicious, rustic and colorful. I thoroughly enjoyed my Bao Buns as they are one of my favorite foods. The buns were soft and fluffy and the filling of pork was tender and moist. The sliders were OK and the chicken one was probably my favorite. The avocado was delicious and the salsa gave it a nice taste sensation. I think that I'm probably not a huge fan of Sliders in general so I don't think it was anything that the restaurant failed on, so much as me being a greedy little piggy and wanting more than I had ordered.
My boyfriend ordered the classic with cheese and that was delicious. I was a bit surprised by the fact that the fries were not included. I really think that this is a must for a burger place. Burgers just aren't burger without fries. For our particular situation this wasn't too bad as we ordered the Cheese Fries anyways. These were delicious and very moreish. It was definitely spicy, cheesy and delicious so this definitely delivered on expectations.
As far as the service, this was also great. Our waiter was not intrusive but seemed to pick up on when we did and didn't want service. The Ice Tea was regularly replenished and the food came out quickly and with no fuss or mistakes.
Overall, I had a really really nice experience. I got to watch the people on the busy road, eat some yummy and interesting food and I walked away feeling uncomfortably full. I think that it could be improved by the addition of fries for every main burger ordered. However, I think that between Grill'd and 5 Boroughs, there are some great burger choices now in Ascot.
Good casual place for dinner along racecourse road. Service was very attentive & food was delicious.
The only thing that bothered me was my glass of wine was a bit low. Would definitely go back.
The service was amazing, and the venue was lovely. I would definitely recommended you try this place out.
I had the sliders, which was average. The burgers were pretty average too, so I would strongly suggest maybe trying something different on the menu if you're after some excitement.
But overall, you cannot top the service. Thanks for a great evening 5 Boroughs Ascot!
Good food and great service. We got a selection of sliders with a side of onion rings and some dumplings. Everything was delicious and came out quickly. Our waiter was lovely and gave us a great recommendation with the dumplings. Looking forward to a return visit.
5 Boroughs do weekend brunch too and the eggs bennie was nice; good coffee and the staff were super friendly. Breakky booze after 10AM too - $10 mimosas.
Awesome food the sliders tasted fresh, had smooth texture and presentation was top notch. Topped off by a waiter who was friendly, personable and efficient. Food and service was so great I even tipped them! Highly recommend!
The Food Avenue contributors have been busy this month, checking out the latest foodie places. My Brisbane correspondent, Scott Wyatt, takes a look at the latest New York burger place. Nary a year after opening their New York inspired eatery in Stones Corner, Marissa and Todd Clayton have set their sights on the north side of town opening a table serviced version of their '5 Boroughs' eatery on Racecourse Road in Ascot.
The cheese fries with the chilli beef is amazing and the burgers are to die for! Also if you're up for it, the chicken wings with the red rub!!
Went to 5 Boroughs on opening night and it was completely smashed, so whilst our orders took a little while to come out I completely understand.
The Burger was fresh, cooked nicely and quite juicy. Cheese melt was excellent. Nice size and I was quite happy with it. Chilli fries were absolutely delicious, and had a nice little kick with a good ooze of cheese sauce. I could have done with more sauce on the fish tacos but other than that we had a great time. Those waffle fries are beautiful!
Can't fault this place, fast service, fresh food, reasonably priced. We will be back. Burgers, fries and onion rings up there with some of the best.
I'm a big fan of 5 Boroughs in Stones Corner so when I moved northside recently I knew I had to check their new place out. When we visited it was dinner time on their launch night with 2 for 1 burgers, so it was (understandably) quite busy and we had to wait a couple of minutes to get seated. The new premises is really nice - it's warm, relaxing, clean and looks great. I'd recommend a seat at the garden bar, it's probably the highlight of the place for me.
If you're not familiar with 5 Boroughs, they serve mainly American style food with a couple of other interesting and welcome additions to the menu. The food is all made in house so the quality is outstanding. We ordered a few burgers, onion rings and the rustic chips. Onion rings were tasty and very crispy, but let down a little by being overly salted. The rustic chips were really well cooked and seasoned perfectly. The main event was the burgers. We got some doubles and some classics. The burgers were carefully assembled and looked great on the plate. The burgers don't look that huge, but they pack the handmade patties tight so they really fill you up. The burgers were delicious - the patties were really juicy and well cooked, and the other ingredients were really fresh and tasty. The price for food is very reasonable at ~$11-$15 for a burger. This is similar to what you pay at Grill'd or Burger Urge but the burger is much better here.
The staff deserve a special mention. The place was packed to the gills but they were still really attentive and friendly and got our food out to us really quickly. They even managed to hook us up with some tabasco when we requested some hot sauce. (They usually have a nice collection of hot sauces at Stones Corner which was sadly absent from Ascot)
So to sum it all up. If you're jonesing for a burger on the north side of town, 5 Boroughs at Ascot is the place to go. Food is outstanding, service is great and it isn't too hard on your wallet.
Great place for a visit. Professional knowledgeable staff. Animals looked healthy and well looked after. 2-3 hours was sufficient for us to see the animals and 2 shows. Ice cream and coffee from the cafe were excellent. We would recommend a visit with kids. Pricing and difficulty of access to facility aren't great but acceptable.
Absolutely enjoyed our time here, one of the most memorable experiences. It’s definitely a koala sanctuary & one worth supporting.
The lines can be quite long for photos with the animals, best to book online to avoid delays, it helps slightly & really friendly staff everywhere all around.
There’s a cafe & toilets throughout the sanctuary, with birds & lizards walking around freely; so watch out where you step.
We booked the Mirimar cruise to & from the sanctuary, the best way to get there in our opinion, while enjoying the narrative & some history of what we pass by along the river.
Fantastic experience for the whole family, we got to see and touch animals, and watch live feedings absolutely terrific! We would recommend it to everyone in the area. Lots to do and see, fantastic enclosures. And wild animal life. We will definitely be comi g back
Great experience! They have all of the well-known Australian animals as well as some less known animals. You can hold a koala for an extra fee and they have a sheep dog show, a birds of prey show and some others. We'll worth your time!
Great day out with an almost 3 year old. She loved feeding the kangaroos and wallabies and spotting some joeys. There were so many koalas throughout Lone Pine. We loved watching them in the Cafe area while we had lunch as many were awake & moving around.
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is one of the best places to get in touch with the Australian local animals. Koala, bat, dingo, wombat, crocodiles, etc., are typical animals that you can find in the sanctuary. The sanctuary has guided tours and shows to explain the ecosystem of Australia and the way the local animals live. There is free car park next to sanctuary. Highly recommended to those who do not have private car to go to the Australia Zoo.
Fantastic place to visit for both adults & kids. We purchased yearly passes and have visited 6 times - excellent value! Excellent COVID safe practices, outdoor so you can very easily socially distance, adults must be vaccinated to visit etc.
Probably one of the best places in Australia if you want to see koala variety and quantity. It also has a variety of Australian animals but very limited reptile and bird partitions. Large and beautiful area to walk around.
