Review Briny's Restaurant And Bar - Brisbane

Peace
Was hard to locate. Short walk from the Fortitude Valley train station. Was greeted warmly by the Taiwanese lass who cleared our groupon voucher and ushered us to our table. We had fish and chips and washed it down with a refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a lager. Fish was battered nicely, accompanied by an uplifting coleslaw and green salad along with a generous supply of piping hot thick cut chips that was salted just right. The lovely owner came out for a chat and even showed us how fresh her oysters were. Another time perhap? Even without the Groupon Voucher, prices were really reasonable too. I would highly recommend you to try this place if you'd like a quick, effordable and pleasant place for lunch or dinner. Suitable for couples, singles, families or groups. Lots of carparking available too beside the restaurant. Only negative was that it was a tad stuffy on a summer's day.

We were waiting for hidden cameras to jump out and yell surprise... Dining here was like watching a train wreck in slow motion... We got seated and noticed table numbers were napkins with numbers written on in red pen... we just brushed it off but it really should have been a red flag to what was to unfold. We tried to order some white wine and then told there was no white wine available, at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. We then tried to order cocktails - told that no cocktails were available. So basically just beer and cider. My friend got a cider and requested some ice...the waiter dropped the ice in, the cider fizzed and was overflowing all over the table. We grabbed what napkins we could to stop the flow but the waiter just stood there watching, we we had to explicitly ask him if he could please get some cloths to mop it up. We tried to order oysters and informed there were none left, but then told that we could get half a dozen. They dropped the oysters on the table but did not give us any plates or cutlery which we then had to ask for... the waiter came back with 4 and we had to tell the waiter that we needed another set as there were 5 of us... The final outrage was in the chicken wings... $14 for two really skinny wings that were overcooked and dried. (Funnily this was the same night that Trista another diner wrote her review...) I guess you should never order chicken in a seafood restaurant.. but hard when there's a scarcity of seafood to begin with. Scallop carbonara had 3 scallops.. fisherman's basket comprised half chips.. you'd be pretty disappointed if you paid full price, but even with 50% off from the Fork.. you're better off going to Maccas.. which we did go after :)

Food was nice and fresh, service was very great been here couple times already and they made the perfect beer batter! Would recommend the seafood basket.

The price is so tricky... The "seafood and chips "is not worthy $38 at all. And the" Fish & Chips" costs us $30. I thought it would be a big size. But it turned out three small pieces of fish. So terrible. Don't try this restaurant for the Fork or Groupon half price promotion. You will see the truly original price - fish&chips $12, seafood&chips $16. Not happy at all. 🤢

We won’t come back again as taste bad and overprice. We ordered 9 dishes but we have been waiting for more than 1 hour to get only 3 dishes. Oysters are not fresh and really fishy. We had chicken wings as well but it’s too expensive. It cost $14 of original price and only has 2 tiny chicken wings. We booked the restaurant through the frok which offer 50 % off the of the food menu. Before we went to the restaurant, we had a look of online menu from other websites ( like zomato and online takeaway order website) and found that the original price of the menu from website is cheaper than the menu that they provided in the restaurant.

Very good food, clean and tidy and well decorated. Good selection of beers and cocktails. Not sure if I've been poisoned or there is something I don't know, but we were the only customers on a Saturday night. Get on before it closes because it's something to experience. I recommend the abalone if you love prawn crackers.

Terrible food, service and so very highly over priced. Went here for my sisters Birthday she had a 50% voucher so we decided to give them a go even though there are so Many poor reviews. The oysters were the only item that tatsed ok but everone I had (half dozen), had shell fragments in it andthe oysters were tiny! We tried the abalone- this was by far the worst. So expensive and only 3 abalone which were terrible tasting and so hard you could barely chew them, my husband spat his out. We had $14 sweet potato chips that was about the size of a cup, so expensive and unsatisfying. We tried the scallops, they were ok but again so expensive for mediocre seafood. We also had the pipis and these were terrible. We were so hungy after this we had to go to the valley and order mains from superbowl as we were starving. I had 2 mocktails and on the second one the lady tried to charge my husband $17 (full cocktail price) instead of $9 which is what she charged the first time. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE. LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT IT WILL BE NEXT. Hopefully something that is well priced and good quality food as the actual place/ building is very cool.

Even with a 50% off Groupon it was vastly overpriced. $38 for the smallest fishermans basket I've even seen. Wait staff didn't know what house wine was then we we told we could only certain things on the menu with our Groupon - basically only starters and pasta dishes. When we complained we were grudgingly given small portion of fish and chips. We will not be back - avoid, avoid, avoid.

We made a reservation through The Fork Festival for 50% off the entire food bill; thankful that we did as the high prices did not equate to high quality of food. We dined on a Friday night and were the only customers.

For starters, we ordered Baked Oysters ($35 for 6) and Fresh Oysters ($20 for 6); both of which were extremely small and of average quality. For main's we ordered the Fisherman's Seafood Basket ($38), Creamy Mushroom Spaghetti ($26), Scallop Carbonara ($29) and the Stir Fried Fresh Pipis ($36).
Firstly, the quality of seafood for the Fisherman's Seafood Basket as poor where they did not de-vein the prawns! The chips were oily and soggy and tasted like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The Mushroom Spaghetti was incredibly bland. The Scallop Carbonara was average and the Stir Fried Pipis tasted quite nice, however if you are paying $39 you would hope you'd be satiated. The serving size of the dish was astoundingly small, arrived in a small pot with a small handful of pipis.

It might also be important to note that the lunch menu serves some of the meals offered on the dinner menu; at drastically different prices. The Mushroom Spaghetti was $26 at dinner time and $16 at lunch. The Fisherman's Basket was also $39, yet $20 on the lunch menu.

Overall, some of the dishes were alright, but for the amount you are paying the portion sizes are considerably small and of poor quality. There are much better places to dine at considerably more affordable prices in Fortitude Valley.

Very poor portion size. Went there with a voucher from Zomato and it was below expectations. The waiter even charged us wrongly and we were the only diners at that time. Very poor service.

We had a really enjoyable time here for dinner. The bagger on the fish and chips was light and crispy on it and fish well cooked. The garlic bread was fluffy and well toasted. The mushroom pasta was so creamy and garlicy.

Enjoyed the music and even played my first game of darts on their electronic dart board. Service was polite.

Will I be back? Yes- it looks like they have some decent lunch specials and happy hours.

Paul Chan and I have been bushwalking and fishing for hours until 6.40pm. Arriving at Briny’s at 7.30pm with a 50% discount voucher from The Fork, we are welcomed and seated among 10 patrons this Friday evening. I decide on four Seafood dishes and two sides.

*Fried Abalone ($40) is a serve of six nicely presented Baby Abalone lightly seasoned and dusted. They are a tad small but are tender and sweet. Rating: 4

*White Wine Black Mussels ($34) look appetising, cooked in a tomato based sauce. These Mussels are nicely prepared. I order a side of Garlic Bread ($9) to complement this dish. Rating: 4

*Chilli Prawn Spaghetti ($29) looks delicious with five plump prawns. Served with a tomato based sauce and Bacon strips we agree the sauce is excessively tart. Rating: 3.5-4

*Battered Calamari ($18) is a small serve of thick cut Calamari rings. Served hot from the fryer, this dish is popular. I order a side of Chips ($10) for this dish. Rating: 4-4.5

We enjoyed our meal here and wait staff are friendly and obliging. Menu prices are high so check out The Fork’s 50% discount offer!

We loved our dining experience at Briny! The food was well cooked, fresh and delicious. The service was lovely too. It is in such a random spot (an old igloo) but the decor is great and they have made what is a random spot into a cute and intimate restaurant. We would highly recommend to all! The photo has our meal for the night :)

Went here with a couple of friends for dinner on a Friday night. We also utilised The Fork's 50% discount offer.

We ordered drinks, as well as the Sydney oysters (Tasmanian were not available on the night), fried abalone, baby octopus - cooked in a lovely sweet and spicy sauce, fish and chips, and scallop carbonara. The seafood was all cooked reasonably well. The pasta was flavourful, although the scallops missed that fresh ocean-y taste.

The restaurant was quite quiet for a Friday night. There were a couple of arcade-styled games within the wall of the main dining section. Casual ambience. Service was friendly and efficient. Reasonable prices.

Overall, a reasonable establishment for casual fish and chips, and seafood to share. Just a pity about the Friday night ambience.

We went for dinner on Friday night as a group of 4,
Prices are expensive and you would expect top quality seafood,
Ordered oysters, None available.
Ordered 4 entrees and sent most back,
Scallops covered in huge amounts of cheese,
Tiny prawns in sweet chilli sauce which was disgusting,
We didn't get to order the mains, we left and went elsewhere...
Stay away from this place, The food is uneatable!

It was the second visit since my first review four months ago. Co-incidentally, it is again a 50% food bill off deal. We placed orders of Tas. Pacific natural oyster (6), Chilli Deep Fried Abalone (3), garlic bread strips, Chicken Wings with Honey, Mussels and Pipi.
The first two dishes of oysters and abalone deserve thumb-up. Oysters are full and rich in flavour. Abalones should be the a-must dish to order. They are tender and tasteful. Chicken wings seem too sweet. Sauce of Pipi is delicious but pipis are slightly over-cooked. The sauce of mussel dish is different from last time but tomatoes base is not bad and good as the dips for the garlic bread. Overall experience is decent with the consistent production. CP ratio is good for the deal…. Cheers!

Nov 2018 Rating 4/5
Had a 50% off bill offer dinner at this restaurant early this month. It was early evening time so it was not that busy at the time that we walked in. Ordered 3x oyster shooters in gin tonic and 3x spicy ginger & lime. Feeling is not as good as Bloody Mary but an interesting experience. White wine mussels is good, if we order some bread to go with it then this dish will be perfect. Spaghetti is al dente with the creamy mushroom. Home-made prawn spring rolls are crispy. Hero should be the deep-fried abalone. It was the first time to have abalone done in such way but they are surprisingly tendered. Overall experience is decent and recommend foodies to give it a go.

Arrived after making a booking for midday only to find the place is shut (despite them accepting the booking and the webpage and signs say they open at 12). Waited 15 minutes just incase but nope, never opened. Pathetic.

Visited Briny after 6 months from our original visit. The prices have increased significantly since then and we’ve been priced out. $29 for 3 scallops on top of carbonara is quite steep.

Lovely place for chillax, specially on the paito. Spent my afternoon in here with seafood cuisine, no doubt to come back with fds next time. Look forward to try the mussels, seems like very delicious on my next table.

Absolutely perfect! Interior is very warm and at the same time non traditional and creative. The food was absolutely perfect as well, the seafood platter that we ordered had amazing proportions for its price
