Review Mecca Bah Broadbeach - Broadbeach

Angel ✈️ Travelmints
From the outside it looks very stereotypical but once you engage with their staffs it was pretty warm place to spend your dinner time with your friends or family. Food is good but honestly if we would say this place is great restaurant rather than claiming it ad one of GC’s best place as the Middle Eastern restaurant. We love the vibe, the staffs, the food, but we want more authentic foods!

The vibe was great, loved the decor and setting of this restaurant. We ordered the cauliflower starter which was really nice. For our mains we ordered the lamb and chicken skewers. The chicken and lamb were both dry and chewy. The rice was still hard and undercooked, could have done with more steam time. The tabbouleh was also disappointing, it was soggy and swimming in juice.

Really lovely place for a quick bite, drink or a full meal. What I enjoyed most about Mecca Bah was the friendliness of the staff, coupled with the atmosphere it made it very warm and inviting. The food and drinks were lovely and I would dine here again.

Food was really good although everything else was just a bit sloppy. Wine delivered to table dripping down the glass, waiting at the front to be greeted for some time with no “hi, we will be with you shortly’, table rocky and staff just super slow. I asked for a dessert menu and the same lady then proceeded to walk past the table 3-4 times and didn’t come back and ask. Ended up missing the dessert and leaving. Overall good food but Everything else was just a bit sloppy and disappointing.

Friday night dating. Calamari is good. Lamb and chicken kebab are good but 2 for 42 dollars!!😥 A little expensive. Food is good but just think it is not worth it.

Beautiful food, every single dish we had was delicious. Although we had to wait quite some time to get a table, the service is really fast and the staff are friendly & welcoming.

My Husband and I are here two weeks ago while we were on holidays and it was a great experience. Our entrees were excellent and a good portion, our mains were great and quick to come out. The food was also delicious with flavour! We went on a really packed night so the staff were really busy but that is at every restaurant you go to. Next time we visit we're definitely going again :)

AMAZING FOOD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND SHARING MANY DISHES The food was so tasty and flavourful. Because there are so many delicious dishes, it’s definitely best to order many smaller plates to share between people. Staff were lovely and attentive and there was a large range of both food and drinks on the menu. only small issues were: 1. kitchen closed at 9 - we did have a late booking though 2. not heaps of bread with dips (that’s nitpicking though and you are able to order more)

Over the years, I’ve continued returning to this place, as the food and the atmosphere never disappoints. The menu is a definite crowd pleaser. Book a table to avoid disappointment.

(no booking, but good looking)

We ordered several dishes but was told that the lamb which is a signature dish was not available. I asked the waiter what else wasn’t available. He said he wasn’t sure. We then ordered other items and another 3 weren’t available. The waiter said there were supplier issues. One of the dishes that wasn’t available was the cauliflower. The supermarket around the corner had plenty. We left without eating!
The waiter was unhelpful and rude.

We were expecting middle eastern or moroccan dining with delicate spices, however, it was far from the truth. Our dips to share tasted very bland and very little difference between them. 3 of us ordered the tangines. The bottom of each dish was filled with couscous that left very little protein or vegetable . I ordered the roasted vegetable and was very disappointed with the quality and the spices. I could hardly taste any spices and the vegetables seemed steamed not roasted. Roasting brings out the flavour and I could only taste mush. My partner had the seafood and was disappointed with the quality or the quantity. Lots of sauce, very little seafood. One of our friends had the chicken and again the spice was very bland. The beetroot salad was very ordinary. Overall, very disappointing for a very average meal. Would not bother coming back to this one. Overrated and very little taste. Supermarkets do it better in packaged meals.
Tally Davis
Ordinary. “Tajine” not genuine...a stew heated up and slapped in a ceramic dish. Tinned pineapple in the salad...come on...this is Queensland. Make it real or leave it out. Relying on transient nature of tourist area. Locals wouldn’t come back.

Very westernized middle eastern food, but damn good. Highly recommend the pides/ pizza. Kebabs are good, however I find the portions a bit small. Very surprised that they don’t have lamb mince kebab!!! Good drink menu, and nice ambience (however I do prefer the Brisbane location)
Filo3355
Nice location but no actual lamb here; we ordered $34 × 2 large skewers! Staff insisted was lamb. Left premises without eating, took home leftovers. Very disappointed. Very expensive/hugely overpriced beef - NOT lamb. We are lamb connoisseurs.
Renee Hastings
Had a lovely meal here. Dips platter & lamb kofta for entree & then lamb and chicken for main with a side of tabbouleh. All was extremely tasty & well presented. Staff professional & friendly. Would definitely recommend!

This place was a treat! We ordered the lamb and chicken Turkish pizza. Definitely worth the ride out to Broadbeach. We asked the kitchen to cut our pides in half and they were more than happy to oblige us. Even though we were the last customers there that night, the employees did not try to rush us out.

Was so looking forward to celebrating my daughters graduation at her and her friends favourite restaurant. We booked for 11 people for 9pm (website states they close at 10.30). Ceremony ran late so I rang at 9.10 to let staff know we were running late and to order the food we wanted as I know kitchens close at 9.30. We sent our guests over first and they arrived at 9.20. Guests were treated rudely and repeatedly told they couldn't order more food (even tho they hadn't asked to). Older lady serving (manager?) was rude and abrupt with everyone. Other staff tried to make up for this but unfortunately the night was ruined for my daughter. I understand they were quiet and wanted to close early which was the reason for this treatment. Unforgivable that their selfishness should ruin what was a major milestone celebration in my daughters life! We have been frequenting this restaurant since it opened but will never do so again. We will also be asking our friends and family (very large local contingent) to do the same.

Seriously the food here is amazing. Fresh and flavours are spot on. Customer service was excellent the lady serving us was friendly and helpful with menu. NOTE TO OWNERS: pleaseeee reopen in Melbourne, we were there at least once a month and miss the food!
Fabulous evening, booked a table for 4. Service was exceptional from beginning to end. I was well done to the Brazilian waiter. Now onto the meal, and mixed grill served with spicy rice, and then perfectly cooked. Two of us tried the pizza, and one lamb and the other braised beef. I lovely thin crust, but full of flavour perhaps a touch dry, but overall a satisfying evening and we will definitely return. friendly a drink efficient staff all around

Having never tried Middle Eastern food made by someone else I've been eager to try Mecca Bah for weeks now and finally I have. First of all, THE SWEET POTATO FALAFELS! They were the best I've ever tried, putting all those I've had in the past to shame especially when paired with the Tahini sauce. The Harrisa marinated olives were tasty but like most dishes were slightly overpriced. We then also ordered the Moroccan Spiced Calamari w/ Turkish Bean Salad, which was so delicious, the Calamari was cooked to perfection, this dish was filled with flavour. The slow cook lamb pizza, was delicious, the base was crispy yet soft, the meat was cooked perfectly and we loved the shape of the pizza! We also ordered the Seven Roasted Vegetable Moroccan Tagine with couscous which was very good but surprisingly lacked flavour though all the veggies were soft and tender. Overall, it was a great night, the food wasn't disappoint at all and we really enjoyed it, the staff were super friendly and helpful and service was good!

Amazing layout and food! Meat platter for 2 has so much flavour! But no Shisha..

5 Stars 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Really wanted some middle eastern food. It was my first time in the GC, we had come straight off the plane dropped our bags off and went hunting for food.
I was not aware that we should've booked on a Saturday night.

As soon as we walked in we were asked if we had a booking, when we said no the server was very shitty with us and rude. Realising we should've booked I turned to her, because she was so flustered and harsh to let her know it's OK we can go somewhere else if you are busy IN THE NICEST way because I felt bad.

To which she replied in her moo-ish tone I said wait we are looking! We walked straight out and straight into The Cuban.
You need to take a leaf out of his booklet, when he realised we didn't have a booking he didn't bi#@h or look flustered he simply opened his book to see who had a late booking and sat us down.

Thanks for being a stupid moo we were able to have the best first meal surrounded by friendly staff :p

The lamb pizza was absolutely delicious and so was the marakish kiss cocktail. But the positive review ends there. First order of 3 beers took us 15 minutes to receive them. When they came to take our orders there were two waitresses, one was pulling the menus from our hands and the table before they had taken our orders, which caused a bit of confusion as we then were left to order based on our memory of the menu. The food come out quickly and all together which was really good. However, getting drinks proved to be rather difficult. One serve of beer had obviously been poured at least half an hour earlier as it was Luke warm when it was delivered to the table. Had to ask more than three times, and after about 20 minutes was given a beer and when we tried to state it was beer, not cider, which we had ordered, the waitress denied this, stating it was a cider poured into a beer glass. At this stage anther waiter overheard and confirmed, it in fact was a beer and then took this away. Returning with a bottled cider. I myself was drinking super dry for the evening and at one point received what I thought was super dry, however, had a rotten smell and tastes to it and seemed to be off. Quiet nice food. However, very terrible and bizare service. For the price of the meals, I was expecting much better service (and food).

Somewhat traditional middle eastern menu and a small, but quality, wine list available. Delicious looking choices from calamari to tagines and typical salads available. We opted for a 7 vegetable tagine as well as lamb shanks with couscous. Our choices were rewarded with the complexity of flavours and spices that the cuisine promised. Knowledgeable and friendly staff advised and unobtrusively served the fare. The tagine was not spicy but dominant tomato flavours were apparent. A bed of small pearl couscous soaked up the juices. Lamb shank was a highlight with meltingly tender meat. The salsa, finely chopped parsley topping added to the senses and taste. A good experience overall.
Good Food Good Mood
Do you want the good news or the bad news? The bad news is the trio of dips for $15. Now I know I probably eat more than I should and I don't have the greatest grip of portion control but this is definitely not a generous serve and certainly not shareable between any more than 1.5 persons. That aside I found the menu selection extremely delicious sounding and it was quite a difficult task to settle on one. It was a toss up between Moroccan calamari, garlic chicken kebab and Tunisian salmon and the calamari won. It was really beautiful to experience something so delightfully different and I was really impressed with the variety and execution of the menu. We went for lunch during the week so it wasn't too busy but there was still great atmosphere. A very unique option for a meal on the Gold Coast
Glenn
Went there for dinner late last Friday night and the staff were very accommodating. Staff were informative and tried the chat grilled calamari and was cooked to perfection with a light char and tasty bean salad.
The garlic chicken skewer also beautifully charred with a delicious and generous rice bed...
Recommended

I was staying at the Sofitel around the corner and looking for some takeaway. Found the Meccah Bah and surprised they were willing to do take away for me even though they had a huge private function on. I had the Chicken Bastilla and Lamb and Eggplant on rice. Very filling and delicious. But on receiving the meal, I realised the food didn't come with cutlery and I was staying in a hotel. The lady serving me was so lovely, she went around the corner to another restaurant and asked them to give me a plastic knife and fork! Now that is excellent customer service!

If you are in Gold Coast area and you'd like to taste delicious middle eastern / Arabic or North African foods this is certainly the place to visit.
Just be careful the kitchen closes 9ish or even 8:30ish. So be quick and preferably book earlier (Actually that is the only down point)
Olivia
Food was very yummy and reasonably priced, nice atmosphere and friendly service!
Only Negative thing was it was a bit chilly and they had the air conditioner on a bit too high, other than that, it was excellent

Waited over an hour for our meals. We had kids with us too so asked for some colouring pencils to distract the hungry little tummies but the waitress said they didn't have any. We then noticed that other tables did, they just couldn't be bothered or were too busy to worry about it. Service was substandard. Meals were average. Wouldn't bother going back there. There are better options around.
Vicki Bishop
Very good food. Service is excellent. Loved the kiwi waitress. She was very knowledgable with the meals and honest. Good range for the kids too. We had the mixed grill for two for me and my husband. My 11 year old daughter had the chicken and rice and she loved it.
Trulassie
Highly recommended mixed kebab grill on skewers - lamb & chicken and the deep fried mussels ( entree). In fact we ordered the deep fried mussels the second round!
Emin Emrullah Dinç
The slowest service i have ever seen.I heve waited a soup more than 10 minutes. They bring me wrong soup but i was really hungry so i didnt say anything.Expensive and not really tasty.

Mecca bah is always jam packed especially in a Friday/Saturday but has never ceased to impress me! No matter how busy service is always spot on, staff are friendly, helpful and attentive.

The food on the other hand is delicious even if "spicy" food isn't your thing there are plenty of options available. Decent wine list too, would highly recommend.
Tim Heeley
Although the restaurant was busy with large groups, service was impeccable. Waitresses were attentive, courteous and hugely helpful. Food was delicious. Tagines and mixed grill are good picks.

Awesome location in the newer part of Broady. Friendliest staff we've come across and the food was to die for! We had the potato cakes (yum!), calamari and meatballs with cous cous + the dips. All delicious!! Highly recommend!

Just had dinner at Mecca Bah Broadbeach. The worst service I had experienced in a restaurant. It took over 20 min for the waiter to come and get our order. Took another 35 min to get our meals and missing one item. We had to ask when the drinks were coming. My daughter had a kids meal which included ice cream - another 15 min after we finished everything the ice cream arrived. It is a shame for a restaurant such as Mecca Bah to have such a bad management. To finilise, the manager did not ask how everything was when I was paying the bill. It shows they do not care. Will never be back.

I have been to this place a few times but never disappoints!
Sword fish grill is my absolute favorite!
I was never a fan of Middle eastern cuisine until I tried the food here.
All herbs and spices have put me off the cuisine but when I tried it, actually not bad at all!
Dilara Melissa
Amazing service, food and atmosphere! Staff are very friendly and caring. Came here on a Sunday and they had live band playing which added a nice touch. Definitely recommend it!
Milan
Please take my advice. The service is truly absolutely terrible. Food is good. But you will leave VERY VERY IRRIRATED. I would suggest going elsewhere.
Feedmerocket
It's very pricey here and the meals aren't too big. I found my experience here to be crammed (many tables, not much space for them). The meals are different and the food wasn't bad but the lack of value for money and lack of atmosphere and options keeps me from returning.

Lovely place! We tried the shish for two people. it's delicious and very special experience. Btw the Turkish bread was so crispy and had a very good flavor. Love it! The price is not very expensive. It's suitable for someone who wants to try something different and unique.
Andrew Nguyen
Great service, food is delicious (Shish for two was a good and unique experience, could've used a wknd-blocking device to ensure maximum smoke on Shish) and the live act was perfect (late 90s R&B).

I had read a few reviews about the service being bad but they were SO wrong!! The service is brilliant! The food is even better! We had the pumpkin falafel (OMG!!), baked haloumi and beetroot salad. As my husband and I are vegetarian, the lovely waitress told another staff member who is vegetarian to suggest menu items, which was a great help! Will definitely recommend this place! Ambience: 4
Food: 4.5
Service: 4.5
Speed: 4
All time fave. Come here all the time for the food. Inconsistent with the service they provide but the food is always awesome. Reasonably priced and massive variety. Food allergy menu is a MASSIVELY help! Thank you to whoever did this.

In our opinion, the best place to eat in Broadbeach! Great drinks, food and service - can't fault anything. The night we were there seemed as if the owner was training a young waitress, both herself and the owner served us and were very friendly and professional. As for the food.... YUM! We tried the Moroccan tagine, some lamb pastries, baked haloumi and Turkish bread, all were cooked perfectly and full of flavour. Although we were so full we couldn't pass up dessert and they absolutely nailed it with the Turkish delight chocolate brownie. If we ever find ourselves up this way again, we'll definitely be back!!!
Kat
Came here with a friend and can't recommend it enough! Tried a few different dishes and all were absolutely delicious. We were so stuffed after dinner but couldn't help ourselves and had to get dessert ... Turkish delight chocolate brownie with halva ice cream!!! Solid 10/10, and the staff were all really lovely and efficient. Wish I lived here so I could go back again :)

Some of the worst food I've eaten out on the Gold Coast in my 6+ years of living here. We had the lamb shish for 2. This included one kebab stick of 5 dry, tough and tasteless lamb cubes, with a couple of slices of capsicum and onion. Along with bland lukewarm rice, doughy flatbread, yoghurt, and a "Turkish salad" which apparently means large chopped cucumber tomato and red onion (how inspired). I am involved in the hospitality industry, and as such am not someone who complains, ever, but on this occasion even I could withhold the urge to tell the staff of our disappointment. We won't be back, and we advised friends passing us not to eat here either. I recommend the same to anyone reading this.

Not value.. Came here for dinner as a group, and made the mistake of going for the banquet option. It seemed like that would get good variety, and took away the trouble of choosing from the many a la carte menu options.
As it turns out, what you wind up getting from the shared serves is really small portions of food. The food itself was alright, with smoky flavours through the meat. You can, however, get just as good in lots of other places around at far less cost. The dessert that came with the banquet was laughable, with half a Ladies' finger each, and one of the mamouls (the pastry is smaller than palm size) cut into 8 to be shared between everyone at the table. Considering the extra cost of getting the banquet option with bread and dips and dessert compared to without, and the cost of ordering those items separately, this is a joke.
Service also left much to be desired. Trying to catch anyone's attention for anything was difficult (it wasn't even that busy when we were first there), and our water was never refilled through dinner.
Disappointing. Won't be back, and I would suggest others look elsewhere for food too.
Major Eatingstuff
Good food, complete rip off. We were a group of 6 and took up the banquet at over $40/head. Breads and dips quite nice (alas hummus too bitter, not emulsified & creamy enough). Mains were suprisingly light and carb heavy: no lamb or beef at all (disappointing), 2 skewers of chicken (very tasty) between us all and 2 plates of nicely cooked calamari were the only proteins. Pide and salads were nice. Dessert was pitiful, 4 tiny baklava & some crumbly thing. Nice but way over priced for the food we got.
Chad Smythe
We came as a large group of 28. We received terrible service and very sassy wait staff. My order of swordfish did not come out for 90mins and when i checked the waitress informed me 30 minutes later than there had been an error and they had sent out another serving of calamari to the other table. There was no apology or offer of a replacement dish or a free dish. Very disappointed and would not ever return here or recommend to my worst enemy.
Mr Cook
Reasonable food but no flexibility. The food was reasonable except there was no flexibility to change the menu. I asked whether they would change a pizza topping but they only "take things off not add things". Made you think that there was a lot of "pre-made" food waiting for a customer. I would expect most restaurants in Melbourne to alter menus as necessary (and within reason) unless the restaurant was full. This was not the case last Saturday evening (Anzac Day). I do note that we paid the public day surcharge, pity the service didn't represent any additional value. Reasonable food; underwhelming service.

Terrible Service. It's a shame that the service is so bad at Mecca Bar because the food is fairly good. The service manager seated us with barely more than a wave of her hand to gesture we could sit here or there. As if it didn't matter to her in the slightest where we sat. Our drinks order and food order were taken promptly, our drinks and bread/dips arrived promptly, we then waited 1hr 20mins between breads and our main meals. After an hour we searched out a waitress and asked her to check on our meals. She returned with our bill. We advised her we hadn't even eaten yet. She said "Well, we are busy." The restaurant would have been at about 75% capacity. The waitress appeared to go to the pass to check for our meals but didn't return to our table for 10min. When she did she said they would be coming soon. Vague. The food was very tasty when it arrived although a side dish we had ordered did not come out. We did not chase it. We finished our meals, turned down the dessert menus, got our bill (again), and went to the bar to settle it. We had some difficulty with the staff member running the till and then the manager regarding using a "Best Restaurants" gift card for part payment. Stood our ground despite the manager's excuses and the gift card was eventually honoured. Needless to say, we won't be back despite the good food until the service is much improved.

Super meal last night, great food, great service & very busy. Lovely meal here on Saturday evening. Lovely wait staff, who served us very quickly & returned with our order in no time at all & kept a check on our table throughout our stay despite being extremely busy, tasty generous servings so excellent share servings & desert of cheese cake beautifully presented with cinnanom & honey ice cream which is more than enough for 3 people - well done chefs! Forgot to mention a great atmosphere to top it off.

Food fine, terrible service. The worst service I have experienced in my life. In all honesty.
The place was busy but it certainly wasn't packed. There was approximately 5 waitresses to 20-30 people. We weren't greeted on arrival, so after 5 or so minutes we sought out a waitress (one of many that walked past us obviously task-orientated, without saying anything or acknowledging us in the slightest), and was told to sit wherever we wanted and someone would be with us shortly.
15 minutes later we are still waiting for menus, so again, seek out a waitress. We were met with hostility for what I assume she thought was impatience. We were once again told in a huff that we would be seen shortly. Another 10 minutes passes when the waitress finally arrives, once again, not greeting us, but just pouring water. She didn't even make eye contact.
We had to ONCE AGAIN ask for menus. Almost 30 minutes. 30 minutes we waited just to look at the menu.
This went on the whole night, the waitresses were passive aggressive and obviously annoyed with all patrons - we saw this happening to all tables. It was as if we were causing them the greatest inconvenience by eating there. It was extremely off putting. The food was lovely, and that was the only saving grace.
I have not written a review before, but I just felt so strongly about the hostility of the staff that I felt I had to write one. I've not experienced anything like it before. I can forgive nervous hospitality staff that can forget things, but this was blatant disregard and nastiness.
BBQ Pork Bun
Yum. Enjoyed my dinner here. Read reviews of bland food but, I didn't find this to be the case. Tasty refreshing food. Quail was yum. Service was efficient. Look forward to dinner here again next time I'm in town.

Not a good place for the hungry...... If you're down at Broadbeach for a little break, you've had a big breakfast, a large lunch and a hefty afternoon tea then Mecca Bah is the ideal place to go for dinner....The food is really nice, it has some interesting dishes and the actual quality of the food is very good. However the portion sizes, particularly the main courses are very small, well very small is being generous, the portions are tiny in fact. But if you haven't had much to eat during your day then make sure you fill up with snacks before going to Mecca Bah!!!

Not an ideal restaurant for the hungry........ If you're down at Broadbeach for a little break, you've had a big breakfast, a large lunch and an ample afternoon tea then Mecca Bah is the ideal place to go for dinner. Whilst the quality of food is good, the menu quite interesting and the service very good the portion size is small, very small....Well maybe I'm being a bit generous here, the portion size, particularly the main courses are tiny. So if you're hungry and you're off too Mecca Bah for dinner then make sure you have filled up on snacks beforehand...

My daughter got raw chicken on her plate and they could only say sorry food very average and tasteless

Don't go. Had high hopes because of the obvious popularity but wouldn't suggest it nor ever go again. The food is bland or otherwise extremely oily. Such a shame!
Jackie
Went for dinner on wed night. It was really busy as a large group was in. Had the chicken tagine and chicken pizza. It was really really lovely and could not fault. Waiting staff excellent and asked how meal was half way through and was very attentive in rewards to drinks. This is our third visit to this restuarant and always come out really happy. Well done to the chefs and the waiting staff. Recommend this restaurant.
Beez
Very pleasant meal - good service and tasty meals - gotta try the tajines!

Disappointing. Having eaten some years ago at the Docklands Mecca Bah, we were looking forward to this. Food was ok, but service was very poor. We had to continuously attract the staff and ask to be served. After the mains arrived, we didn't receive any follow up service. Won't be coming back.
Olivia Renee
Atrocious Restaurant!. Overpriced food, terrible, terrible customer service. After finishing our entrees we were approached with "are you going to order anything else??" Such a disappointing experience for a close friends birthday, I will never return! The waitresses in this place are just down right awful and lack any marginal ability to provide service. Worst money every spent!
Liv.bell89
Very poor experience. I was so disappointed by this restaurant on every level. The waitresses who served us were both rude and impatient and gave us attitude when we asked if they do split bills. The swordfish was over cooked and the calamari was tough. The chicken also had bones all through it and there was no flavour. Also, the coffee was extremely bitter. I will never ever be going here again. May I strongly suggest that when you decide to pay money on over priced cuisine, you choose to go somewhere that actually serves nice food.
ErinMaher
Entree amazing. Turkish pizza fantastic. I had the garlic chicken grill and although it was nice, I got halfway through the chicken to find it was raw. After our meal I discreetly told the waitress, as they were very busy and did not want to draw too much attention to it, but she tried telling me that chicken thigh is often pink. I think I've been eating chicken thigh and breast long enough by now, to know when there is a blood vein and chunky pink/transparent parts in it, that it's raw (mind you, the skewer was made on breast not thigh). She did nothing about it, and it was half my meal uneatable. I don't know why I bothered to be so discreet, when she was so dismissive of what was clearly a kitchen error. Left a sour taste in our mouths. Nice setting - should have gone the seafood tagine.

Went there for dinner last night and loved the food. Food tasted fresh and just nice portions. Loved the Beirut berry cocktail. Service was a little slow but staff was pleasant.

Celebration Not! Lucky for good company. Upon arrival ten minutes to get assistance just to be seated, cannot really complain about the food it was hot tasty, ventured into the unknown etc, however the customer service is appalling staff was blunt and rude. The first waitress to ask for an order became quite rude when we asked her to come back in afew minutes after we had viewed the wine list and food menu. as the meals arrived we ordered more wine and sparkling they arrived after we had finished the meal no apology and when we said it would of been nice to drink it with the meal we got an oh, would I recommend this place NO.
Wb77
Extremely disappointing. Served us cold chicken in the main and the fish had bones. They really need to take more care.
Steven
Fantastic! Food, service and ambience faultless.
Had the vine leaf barramundi, fatoush salad, sweet potato falafels, labna, goats cheese potato cakes and sticky date pudding and all were sensational. Service was good, definetly recommend!

My favourite when coming to QLD. I am so upset that we don't have a Mecca Bah in Melbourne anymore as this place is seriously delicious!!

We came in as were on holidays and loved the restaurant. The outdoor dining was beautiful with the sun shining in for the evening and the service was amazing,

We had the chicken bastillas which were delicious serves of lots of chicken in a pastry with icing sugar and then the chicken Turkish pizza... all so fresh and delicious.

Teamed with a few wines and a couple of spirits it was a fantastic night out. It wasn't too busy.. actually the whole area wasn't overly busy so that made for a relaxing night.
Tsifgurl_grkgoddess2damax
Waste of money. This place had the worst service and the most rude manager.
Their banquet was a rip off...we got one chicken squewer to share between 4 people...not much of a banquet at all!
After speaking to the moron of a manager he refused to provide better service of more food.
Ordinary food, crap service, waste of money and incredibly rude staff...I don't know how this place is still operating

My husband and I enjoy this restaurant every time we come to stay at the Gold Coast. The food is excellent and a great addition to Broadbeach fare.
Nat
Fantastic food and great customer service. The smoked beef shish was a highlight. The orange and almond flour less cake was also delicious. We'll certainly be coming back next time we are in Broadbeach.
Deleeshious
Boring, bland food and quite expensive for the portion size. I don't eat a lot and found it small, can't imagine what big guys would think. Tiny WooWoo "cocktail" in a short glass for $16... It's a shame there's no decent completion, these guys would be forced to pick up their game. Just remember you're paying for the location.
Tim
Wow.... I came here for lunch last week as I love Mecca Bah at emporium in brisbane. NEVER in my LIFE have I had such bad food at a restaraunt before. I'm a total foodie and can appreciate absolutely any branch of culture. But my partner and I each took one bite of her meal and couldn't eat it (which I have never done at a restaraunt, cafe, fast food place or even anyone's house) It literally tasted like cat food. We had a trio of dips to start with, one of which was quite okay, one of which was quite average, and the third I couldn't eat either. It tasted like they had spilt some kind of horrible medicine or betadine in it.

The girl who "seated" us was one of the rudest wait staff I have EVER had, and surprisingly enough I'm actually a very easy and polite customer to deal with, so it wasn't anything I did. In an almost empty restaraunt, there was still food on the floor around the place and we were seated next to one of the two occupied tables, with a lady and her screaming baby and a wafting smell of baby poo creeping across the lunch the entire (brief) time we stayed.

At the end there was no form of compensation on offer after we had expressed our opinions on the meals (5+ mins after starting the meals), which in a way is fair enough. We couldn't pick anything technically "wrong" with the meal, other than the fact it was complete *feces* and we couldn't stomach it.

Overrall, the single worst restaraunt experience I have ever had, out of the hundreds and hundreds of restaraunts I have been to in Australia and around the World.

1/10

Very poor service. Had lunch here for a birthday. The food was quite good, however, could not say the same about the service which was very poor - the person who served us, who was apparently the manager proceeded to answer his phone in the middle of taking our order! Some lessons in basic service required here!

Very busy restaurant - always a good sign absurdly delicious food attentive and helpful staff could not have had a better meal very well priced too! Thank you Mecca Bah I will definitely be returning to try more of your menu!

Enjoyed it very much!. June 2013

Dined here with a friend around 5pm on a Saturday night. The entire area was quiet but the restaurant still had the same amazing ambience as the Fortitude Valley restaurant.

Staff were amazingly attentive, friendly and happy to please. The food as always was delicious!

Entrée: Chickpea battered mussels, almond skordalia (devine) and Hot Turkish bread w/ Single Dip (Hummus /Labna /Baba Gannouj). Drinks: Mint tea and chilled water. Main: Lamb with preserved lemon, green olive & Harissa and Chicken with tomatoes, almond, sesame & honey.

I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Broadbeach!

This place is amazing, the food is made fresh, the spices are awesome
Kawaii Bubble Tea
IMO much better food and ambience than their Fortitude Valley restaurant. Great service and vine wrapped fish was OUTSTANDING.

Diana. We found the service to be ultra friendly & helpfull, especially our particular waiter who went out of his way to ensure we were happy. So they have obviously been working on that aspect looking at the previous reviews on here. The food was a little bland for my taste so I had to order the harisa spice bowl on the side, which added some depth of flavour to my vegetarian tagine. My partners swordfish came with couscous & although the fish was tasty, he said he would have liked some other additions served with the couscous. The entire dish came over lacking flavours again.

The food there is very nice, however the customer service is so terrible that even if this place had the most amazing food I would not come back.
We were there with a large booking for a friends birthday party. When we arrived, we asked for the menu but were told there was no menu and we had to eat from the set buffet menu. At $45 pp, our table full on uni students could most definitely not afford that amount just for dinner. On a busy Saturday night they knew it would be difficult for us to find anywhere else and I believe this is why they were trying to force us to pay this much.
Even on arrival the female table waiter was rude when asked to be shown our table (she was the one with 2 star tattoos on the side of her neck). After about 20 minutes of arguing with the waiter and then the manager, we were finally able to eat off the same menu that all the other patrons were able to eat off. Definitely not worth the stress eating here, and I am especially annoyed that my friend had to go through this on her birthday.

Absolute worst service I have ever experienced.. The staff are angry and seem to fight amongst each other more than looking after the customers. All of this is a real shame as the food was really good! Beautiful infact

Disappointing!. The food was average, and quite bland. One of the waiters was rude and very unhelpful (middle aged man about in his 40s), despite the fact that we spent a significant amount on lunch and wines. Will not be returning to the Gold Coast Mecca Bah.

Always reliable. Third time my hubby and I have dined at Mecca Bah, and the thing that stands out to me is the attentive service we always receive. The food is so tasty and the atmosphere is warm and inviting.

Tasty and buzzing. I went to Mecca Bah for the first time with some friends on a weekend. It was a very busy Saturday night and we had a hen's do happening behind us. The bridal shower extended to the road with a loud and boozy fire engine honking as it drove past, typical Gold Coast. So it was loud, but I found the service very attentive and helpful. Our waitress made recommendations for the mains and suggested sharing the Turkish pizzas so we were not bursting at the seams when we finished. The special coleslaw (it was delish) was on the pricey side but we split it 4 ways and it complimented the pizzas well. The pizzas are not greasy and the pumpkin, feta and pomegranate combo was a standout. The prices of the mains are a bit expensive at Mecca Bah if you have one to yourself, but dining here can be very reasonable if you're sharing. The plates are huge anyway, so I am guessing that is the idea! Keep in mind if you dine on a weekend evening, it is loud if it is fully seated/busy. Great for groups, if you're after an intimate/couple place, try somewhere else or go on a quiet week night.

Food Mecca. We were a group keen for a night out with drinks & nibbles. Tried most of the starters. Very tasty. Loved the bourek and the chicken parcels. Am a fan of middle eastern style food. Very busy & we enjoyed it.

Disappointing experience. Entrees were chicken pastries and lamb koftes, which were both delicious, but the mains of chicken tangible and chicken kebab were bland and tasted like they should've been served from a bain-marie. Add the surly waitress and cackling from the drunk cougars at the next table and it equals an unpleasant evening. Maybe good for tapas and drinks before hitting the town, but not for dinner.

Great meal. Really like this middle eastern delight on the Gold Coast. Had a fabulous meal with friends on business from Melbourne and they suggested I try Moroccan as I had not had it before. So glad they did! We shared a selection of dips and turkish bread, some pastries filled with middle eastern cheeses (yummy), chicken & tomato tagine, lamb kebab and tabbouleh - all sensational. The restaurant is well fitted out, staff are friendly, vibe was great, all in all, a fabulous night out. Highly recommended.

Horrible service by sarcastic wait staff

Lamest Long Island Ice Tea ever: no alcohol in it, in a short glass, took 20 minutes to arrive. And the service was very poor, angry and sharp.

Tasty, fresh flavours are central to this buzzy Mid Eastern/Moroccan place. Efficient and friendly service make this restaurant a great find in Broadbeach. Char grilled vine leaf wrapped fish is delicious. Lamb tagine flavours are delicious. Save room for the yummy ice creams- especially the date and the halva!

Best in broadbeach. During a short break at broadbeach wewent to MeccaBah on our first night. What a terrific restaurant, didn't mind our fussing with a need to sit where there was a breeze, friendly staff and the food,- so good!! Fabulous queen olives, terrific fresh light baba ganoush, hoummos, labne, spices, gorgeous hot crusty Turkish bread. Followed bysharing a spit roasted lamb, rocket, yoghurt Turkish pizza. I was in foody heaven! Returned for lunch 2 days later - mussels in chickpeabatter with light and tangy almond skordalia, a generous serve for 2 to share. Followed this up with vine wrapped fish with parsley, artichoke and olive salad and lamb tagine with preserved lemon and olives and couscous. I love going to a restaurant where the chefs season the food so that it tastes the way it should. At no stage did we lookfor S & P.Fish moist and tender, salad perfect with fresh herbs, lamb tender, aromatic, beautifully flavoured and not fatty. Couldn't resist a large scoop each of house icecreams - date and vanilla and turkish coffee, nearly as cleansing as a sorbet. By this stage we had reached ourperfect state of food induced happiness. We will be back and will be telling others.

Very disappointed with our food. Been to Mecca bah in Brisbane and loved it, so I was very excited to try restaurant in broadbeach. Very expensive for very bland food. We don't mind sleeping money on food that tastes good. When we mentioned that our meal was lacking in the flavors that the menu said it would have the waiter, possibly the manager said ok and then basically walked away with no response. Very strange... would never recommend it.

Yummy. I will preface this with the fact that I admittedly know VERY little about Moroccan food. I cannot say whether it was authentic Moroccan or what not but I can say that the food was quite delicious. I've been twice and both times all parties involved were very pleased with their dishes. The wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive as well.

Nice and spicy. Had the mussel tagine was very nice spicy, hot and filling, Serve was great thanks Rob. Brownie with Turkish delight and baked apple ice cream YUM. A place to go back.

Choose wisely!. Despite some of the reviews on here Mecca Bah is very popular so make sure you book or you won't get a table especially on friday and saturday nights. We had a great waiter who was really friendly and helpful. When reading the menu I suggest reading it thoroughly before making your final selection particuarly with the tagines. I found that the tagines are a bit sloppy and lack any distinct flavours. The pizzas however are great, they are basic but the flavours are nice particuarly the roast lamb and the chicken with eggplant. The cocktail list has some nice combinations on offer (my pick is the lychee zing) but are a little over priced at $17. I would recommend Mecca Bah for a relaxed dinner or for a larger group of people because you can get a decent sized meal, have a few drinks and can have a chat and a laugh without disrupting other diners.

Absolutely terrible, very poor quality food. I've been to Morroco & eaten real tangines, Mecca Bah serves their lemon & olive with minimal Lemon & olive, the meat is soaked in canned tomatoes. It is not cooked in a tangine just dumped onto some couscous and served. I would not recommend for quality.

Best place on the Gold Coast. Stan and Anthony always make sure everyone is taken care of. I go there often, and no matter how busy they are - you will always be seated and have the best service possible. The food is perfect! I couldn't say one bad word about Mecca if i tried.

Great experience. A group of us tried the set menu for dinner last night. Really enjoyed the whole experience. Food was tasty, particularly the Turkish pizzas, great starters. Am a big fan of share food. Smallish portions but we felt satisfied nonetheless. would definitely recommend & will try out the brisbane version when we go back home.

Well worth a visit. This restaurant is a little more refined than some Gold Coast restaurants that equate class with glitz. They have branches in Brisbane, Canberra and Noosa and would fit right in in Sydney.

The space is quite large with a narrow strip of seating along the outside wall of the building on the pavement, indoor seating and a covered outdoor area that is sheltered by plastic bistro blinds. Still, it's usually busy so if you don't book, especially on a Friday or Saturday night, you risk not getting a table as has happened to us. Having said that, the staff are accommodating and we were offered the option of waiting for half an hour.

Our first time there we shared the dips with bread and sweet potato falafels with tahini dressing; all very tasty. My main was the chermoula roasted vegetable tagine with couscous. The flavour was good, but I found the dish a little on the light side. My partner very much enjoyed his Middle Eastern spiced swordfish, which also came with couscous.

Next visit we shared two pizzas: the roast pumpkin, chilli, pomegranate jam and fetta and the roasted zucchini, Middle Eastern cheeses, lemon and mint. Both were exceptionally tasty and while the pizzas were very large the pastry was light and crispy so the meal was not at all heavy. And at around $40 for the two, we thought it very reasonable.

We shared a chocolate Turkish delight brownie with chocolate sauce and vanilla bean ice cream that was spectacularly good. The highlight of our meal, in fact.

Wine is kind of pricy. Both times we've had Innocent Bystander which from memory (though don't quote me), was around $42. A very nice drop though.

Great Service, Tasty Food!. We arrived without a booking on a busy Saturday night and the staff did all they could to find us a table. The service during the night was excellent, very attentive and friendly. The food was also excellent, plenty on the menu and the service sizes are great. Try the sweet potato falafel! We'll be back!

Great food and reasonable prices. Drinks were a but pricey but the Lamb Pizza is a sensation.

Enjoyable. Lovely decor and ambience - went on a windy spring evening and the flickering flames were very cosy. Enjoyed a few different flavours - the roast pumpkin pizza was really, really good, and I loved the lamb meatballs in the tomato sauce with the perfectly poached eggs. Also tried some morsels to start and a salad (we are still debating if it was tinned beetroot!). It was reasonable for the price - not outstanding value but I didn't feel ripped off (except for the cocktail, but the words lychee and martini suck me in every time - I did enjoy it, but not sensational). Would happily return to try a few more things, especially the turkish pizzas.
