Just reopen on 23/5. This Sofitel’s restaurant is spectacular for their service and food. Friendly, helpful, caring, professional and very polite staffs, food was beautifully served and delicious, we also got some surprise for our anniversary. I strongly recommend the scallop and barramundi. The restaurant didn’t charge us the parking fee. This is a must-try restaurant in Surfer Paradise Gold Coast

Had an amazing experience at Room81 yesterday. We went there for our wedding anniversary and the staff went above and beyond to make it super special. They provide us with a surprise complementary wine and dessert platter to celebrate. The food was out of this world - highly recommend for both food and excellent service.

We have been staying in Sofitel for a week. This has been a great experience. I dined there last night. The food was exquisite. Staff were extremely helpful and make great recommendations. The chef personally checked all the tables and talked to the guests. Very good value too. We are going back tonight with our friends from Gold Coast.

We had the 12 course degustation (2 for 1 in Tuesday nights). Quite a few good courses. The strangest was the crocodile fat (bone marrow) - far too strong for anyone's liking & it left a strange after taste - (someone likened it to eating petroleum jelly coated in white chocolate). None of our party of 6 ate finished that course - but some. People might actually like it. I quite enjoyed the scallops Ceviche, the Crab mini pie, the snail crackers, lamb & eggplant, loved the dessert - pistachio ice cream.

Beautiful food as always, Andras was very helpful and with a great personality. Loved the new menu, very different from what we are used to that is the degustation menu but definitely loved the originality. We mention we were celebrating our anniversary and you added a very nice touch to the end of the night with that beautiful plate with chocolates for us. Thank you for such a great service and great food. Congratulations on the new menu. Andras definitely created a peak moment here!

We only stopped by the bar but the service and dessert samplers were very good. As part of a small tour, one of our group was asked to help prepare the line up of their specialty drinks. Very elegant but warm place to pop into.

The ambiance is nice. The staff are very friendly but perhaps more knowledge of the menu would be good! The menu isn't extensive but adequate. My duck was rare and I had to have it cooked a bit more so I could cut it. The entrees - soup and scallops - were tasty. The lamb was good. There was a big mix up with the wine we ordered, so be sure to double check your order. A very pleasant evening but definitely not 4-5 star.

From the time we walk through the doors of room 81 we were utterly spoilt. There were four of us doing the 9 course degustation menu and we loved it, each dish was presented beautifully and tasted as good as it looked! The highlights were the steak with horseradish cream and the lemon lime and bitters dessert. The staff were absolutely lovely, and explained each delicious dish. The night was made even more special with personalised birthday wishes for our two celebrating their birthdays.

Went above and beyond on service and food. Not enough stars in this review. Amazing service, amazing food, amazing everything. Will be coming back when I come to the Gold Coast again from Melbourne. Thoroughly impressed by your fine establishment. I ordered a gastronomy journey (Degustation Menu) - Your service was impeccable, staff understood every element on the plate and introduced pairing wines. Each dish had incredible and intricate detailing. All food was cooked to perfection! All in all, a wonderful evening. I highly recommend Room81.

Dinner for 10 of us for my friends birthday Hard sell on the degustation menu but we ordered off the menu The order came out and the courses were the same size as they would be for a degustution !! 3 course a still hungry The need to decide whether they are Alacart or degustion

We ate upstairs in the restaurant, although the food was amazing the service was terrible, I waited 55 minutes for a mojhito!! Then they came to clear the plates and didn't even wipe over the table, didn't ask if we wanted anymore drinks and when we ordered the cheese board, it was different to what it states on the menu.

Came for the valentines set at 7:30, waited over 5 minutes to be seated. Once seated no water was received for over 30 mins despite having been asked for choice of water as we were seated, instead bread was first served and still no water was received. At which point we were required to get the water ourselves from the counter. Absolutely appalling service, zero attention and consideration given by waitress and it seems as though the waitresses had no assigned tables to look after or was really bad at their job. Another 30 minutes after the bread was served, we received our oyster entree from the set menu (3 oysters with some sauce) -table to the left of us did not receive their oysters even though they arrived before us. After some complaints they then received their oysters which were frozen, another complaint was then made which then sped up their orders and they then received the next part of the set. The oysters should have included a glass of bubbly which never arrived. At which point to the limits of our frustration and having been starved for over an hour, my partner spoke to the manager and was offered the option to exit the meal free of charge for what has been consumed or to allow the restaurant a chance to catch up on the meal and get back on track. We chose to leave as we had waited too long and had lost faith in the restaurants ability to serve us appropriately. Considering the whole restaurant was served based on a set menu for all tables I would expect them to have been better prepared with execution of the food and service, the food should have come more efficiently than a normal menu and in a more timely manner (since you already know what you’re serving and expected the number of customers coming). The restaurant is rated highly based on reviews and recommendation, yet the experience was by far below expectation, frustrating and highly stressful, especially on an occasion like valentines where you hope the night will go smoothly and “perfectly”. Overall, we waited more than an hour and half for two breadsticks and three oysters. Not a good experience for valentines.

We had the 5 course degustation meal with family and friends and it was an exceptional experience. We were pleasantly full and the ambience and staff were what helped make this an amazing experience. The food was fresh and bursting with flavour. For a special occasion , brilliant and highly recommended.

I went to the restaurant to have their degustation. They were informed I could not eat seafood, dairy or pork. <br/>What followed was 3 vegetarian courses. When I informed them I am not vegetarian and wold not eat a plate of peas. They said they pre prepared the menu and I could eat that or nothing, they were not making any substitutions.<br/>I left the restaurant.<br/>The service, attitude and inflexibility were phenomenal. The dietary requirements were there and nothing on their said vegetarian only otherwise I would have written that on my dietary requirements. <br/>I will not go back nor would I recommend it. The staff were disrespectful, I forcible and I was so embarrassed around the group I was with. <br/><br/>

Great atmosphere as ambience. Friendly and attentive staff. Would definitely come back - great for catch up with friends - they have a separate area for patrons that just want a few drinks and very spacious dining area so even though the restaurant was pretty full, it didn’t feel that way.

My husband and I enjoyed a 7 course degustation at Room81. Every dish was delicious- you could appreciate the flavours of every element served on the plate. My husband chose to get the wine menu that matched the degustation menu and thought they were matched perfectly. The service was friendly but formal without being too pretentious. We had a wonderful night here and look forward to visiting again.

The thoroughly modern landscape of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is populated by pistachio praline rocks, green pistachio sponge hills, three magic toadstools, a tower of elderflower marshmallow and rhubarb, clouds of bubble gum ice cream buttoned by fresh blueberries and strawberries. Such a strange fanciful beauty is almost too good to eat… almost! I’m beside myself with excitement! Next birthday I think I’ll just go to the Sofitel for cocktails and dessert. Give me a teaspoon and I’ll show you have to navigate the magical world of Lewis Carroll’s imagination, or how to burst the Valrhona chocolate bubble!

It was the first restaurant that I had Soufflé for my dessert. Then I start to pay attention on dessert menu of any restaurant. Love the signature " Pork in three ways" but the ambient doesn't make me comfortable at all. It was too dark and not spacious enough for me to enjoy my dinner with privacy.

Fantastic experience. We stayed at Sofitel while on holiday in Australia from Scotland.<br/>I always judge a fine dining restaurant against our favourite restaurant which is in a 5 star hotel in Edinburgh which holds a coveted Michelin star.<br/>I now set the bar at room 81.in all aspects it was faultless.<br/>Food was well cooked ,presented in an outstanding manor & the service complimented the food at being first rate. In fact I would go as far as saying should be 2 Hats

Function - over priced and under catered. Lovely ambience, food was pleasant, but for $55 per head I don't expect to be getting a pizza on the way home.

Strongly Recommended. Awesome service, food was great, loved the entree, main and desert. Must try their signature dishes as they are well worth the lil time you have to wait for them. Atmosphere was also very warm and comfortable. Would definitely return.

Love the food. My husband and I love this place. Sad to see some of the reviews here as we have always had a wonderful experience. We eat here about once a month and have always been very impressed with the creative presentation and flavour of the food. Service has seemed to deteriorate some what from when we first starting going there about 2 years ago. We don't recognise any faces of late however it is the Gold Coast and its hard to keep good staff with such a transient population! Overall we love the food but would recommend investing in some long term wait staff!

Worst Restaurant Experience to Date. It is impossible to properly write how terrible my experience was at this restaurant. Visited on a Saturday night with a table of 8 and whilst the experience started of nicely it quickly declined as our wonderful female server was replaced by a very unhelpful, rude and judgmental male waiter who made limited effort to wait on our table or fix our problems. <br/><br/>All of their seafood based dishes were over salted - the crab entree was so salted it made me feel physically ill and when asked if the dish could be replaced as I was unable to eat it due to the salt, I was told "that's the way it's supposed to be".<br/><br/>No main meals at the table were fully finished and desserts weren't much of an improvement (soufflé was undercooked in the centre and the jelly on certain dishes had too much gelatine and no actual flavour).<br/><br/>The wine list was good for Broadbeach and the cocktail list was tasty.<br/><br/>For the price, the food and service should be perfect. It was far from this.

VERY GC. Went for a friend's 30th, had the $81 Wagu. Nice bit of meat (all 100gm of it), but some idiot covered it in a burnt (think carbon) port reduction. Went again for another birthday (large group), my sister's risotto was raw, even second time around (chalk not al dente!). They served another friend a piece of rind as cheese on his cheese course. My complaints were met with indifference, an email sent by a fellow dinner was replied to with "you are wrong, we have good reviews". I'm paraphrasing but this is very close to their email. As a bonus, if you sit outside you get to enjoy tour buses idling and pumping out diesel exhaust. One last word to the chef, a soufflé shouldn't taste like raw cornflour and should drop when you let gravity do it's thing from 30cm (not joking, I worked my way up from 5cm), I've had couches with less resilient cushion foam!

Was nervous about food as I think the experimental twist on cooking techniques can be taken too far. However I was most pleasantly surprised as I tucked into some very good flavor combinations. The barramundi was beautiful. The entree signature dish of snow crab was made all the more better with the delicious cauliflower puree. My husband & I shared the dessert tasting plate (so much food) & it was wonderful to taste all the different sweet treats. The coffee mousse was the best. Highly recommend this restaurant. We thought our meal was better than what we had at Fellini (& we love Fellini).

Exceeded Expectations. For a hotel restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised. Both the regular degustation menu and its vegetarian counterpart were a level above what we expected at a Broadbeach hotel.

Not the best for a upmarket restaurant. Waited an hour between meals, and some of the dishes were over or undercooked 'though they didn't accept that'. Our waiter was pleasant, however the chef or the rest of the staff could not take feedback respectfully. Would not dine here again, disappointed and not worth to try again.

Had degustation menu as part of a conference function. All dishes were beautifully plated. Dishes included prawn with dumpling, belly pork, wagyu beef, duck foie gras, oyster as amese bouche, and a citrus palate cleanser, which I loved. Every dish was interesting, flavours well matched and tasted great. Almost feel like having it again tonight

The food at Room81 was absolutely divine! I was left wanting more! The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant was trendy and really set the mood for a good night out. The presentation of the food was excellent as was the taste.

Our first course was the Nordic cured king salmon served with avocado, wasabi, daikon, lime snow, apple, nasturtiums and tendrils (‘what tendrils?’ I pondered). The fish was beautifully soft and plump, with a slight smoky taste that went especially well with the dehydrated lime ‘snow’ which Marty said ‘looked like a gram of coke.’ I also appreciated the house-made wasabi that wasn’t as potent as the commercial stuff but still had kick, while the glass of 2010 Plantagenet Riesling with its spicy green apple and lemon rind notes complimented the dish very well.
