my experience was a very quiet and clean hostel. absolutely nothing going on and very cheap rates due to covid. well connected with the tram a 2 minute walk from front door. but again, absolutely nothing going on.

The reception phone is diverted to the owner, who is rude and not on site. The staff are all older crack heads, with obvious problems! Last night I got locked out of my room and it took two hours to find someone to help. No answer on the phone, ringing the bell no one came. This morning I went to check out and the guy at reception said I didn't pay the cash key deposit. Tried to refuse me my cash. Such a cowboy operation. Horrible....

The staff were fantastic, helpful and very very friendly. Place was very clean with well kept facilities and a sick TV room. The place is in a great location and fantastic value for money. The only beef I had with the place was that the mattresses on the beds were a little thin, and I had to grab an extra one from an empty bed in my room to make the bed more comfortable. apart from that one small problem, the place was perfect

All I can say is joe (who runs the place) and the rest of her staff, including my man Jeff where absolutely lovely ! As a backpacker I’ve stayed at a lot of hostels in aus and myself and my boyfriend can easily say this place is one of the best. They treat you like family as soon as you walk in the door and are extremely accommodating, also the place is spotless !

Everyone in the staff is soo patient and nice . I loved this place . Stayed here for 4 nights with 4 other mates . Everybody enjoyed their stay. Clean and tidy place. Tram stop is in front of this hostel which is bonus . Close to shopping mall 2 mins away.

Enjoyed my stay. Nice location and perfect to get to know other people due to the laid back vibe of this hostel. Rooms didn't have a/c but it wasn't that big of a deal. Bathrooms, toilets, bedrooms and common areas are clean!

Ive stayed in quite a few hostels, and unfortunately this one was the worst to sleep in. Checked online at reviews and place seemed alright, but then I realized when I got there that you got free unlimited wifi if you reviewed them which is why it was so biased. No air conditioning, the room was SO hot and the hostel was considerably hot also. They do have windows and two fans in each room but this does not help. Another thing I saw here and there in reviews was about bed bugs. I didn't personally have any problems but they do state on the doors that they have had bed bugs and they aren't responsible if you get bitten. The place itself is alright and decently clean, the staff is friendly but not worth it for the few hours of sleep my partner and I got.

Stayed 1 night in December 2013.
Positives: Room/bed was clean and comfortable. Despite no aircon, there was a fan in the room which kept it from becoming stuffy and allowed a decent nights sleep. The bathroom was clean with a good shower. The staff were friendly and helpful - they were happy for me to leave my bag in the office after checking out, and even offered me a lift into Surfers when I went to pick up my bag. Great service!
Negative: Location. Not the hostel's fault, but Southport doesn't really have much going for it. There's a good pub next door which provided a pretty decent meal and the Australia Fair shopping centre is only 5 minutes walk away, but that's about all. It is, however, close to bus routes (buses run 24/7) and the tram/light rail (still under construction).
Aquarius is a great hostel and I highly recommend it!
