Review Gelobar - Brunswick East

Bihter Altuntas
The place looks Excellent! It was empty though. The setup is there. However, there may be many confounding reasons for its emptiness. The oven was not working, so there is no pizzas made for any door to door services. Tuesday 6:30pm is probably not their busiest time. There were two staff who were serving. Both smiling. The South American looking waiter provided me with options for the drink. The waitress was cautious in getting the desert on my plate. I tried their profiterole and drank Sanpellegrino. Profiterole tasted different to the Greek ones. Overall, I liked it.

I didn’t research this place, I so happen to be eating near by, and popped in just because it was convenient, and you know what they say, when you aren’t looking, that’s when you find...an amazing, creamy vanilla in Melbourne, it might just be my favourite. I also tried their Oreo, which was also very flavourful, I really love this place. The cakes and sweets are also delicious, at around the $6 price point for slices. Get in quick, cos they don’t restock the cakes everyday.

This is my new go-to place for breakfast when I'm in the area. The staff are lovely, the food is tasty and the prices are very modest. The café has a relaxed feel to it and sitting outside has the added comfort of plenty of ventilation, meaning you're not likely to bring home any nasty surprises.

This is a popular local spot for delicious gelato icecream and good size portion of cakes. All washes down well with a smooth latté. Torte's are next on my list.

We had a wonderful time at the Gelobar. The food was delicious and the staff went to great lengths to make our evening enjoyable. We had a table of 20 people, who moved around the table quite a bit, however, the staff always remembered who ordered what dish. I would certainly recommend the Gelobar
Vicki Millis
I loved the coffee and desert great atmosphere for friends to gather definetly recommend Gelobar

I love this iconic cafe been going their for years and never disappointed in the great service and delicious food. Hardest decision is whether to have the ice-cream or cakes. The coffee is always perfect summer autumn winter or springtime!

Awesome place. Great service and place to eat. Remembering taking my daughter when she was growing up.. And now myself, my daughter and my gorgeous. granddaughter go there to chill and enjoy the food and of course the GELATO. Three generations. JUST SO SATISFYING.

The best Gelato in Melbourne Our favourite stop when we are in the area

Asked for a double short black coffee and only got a warm coffee in a cold cup. So I returned it and asked for the coffee to be hot as it was only warm. They brought it out to me and said be careful as its very hot? As I went to pick up the coffee cup..wooof the cup was very hot, too hot to handle. BUT- the coffee was the same as the one I returned. Maybe they just emptied the same coffee in a hot hot cup? What crap? Service needs to improve. Will think about returning ? Maybe not! It was better run when Paula ans Sam ran the show. Shows how long I have been around the place.

Had our family reunion at Gelobar today. Great food fantastic staff thank you for a great day

Best Gelato ever so fresh..!! The atmosphere was very welcoming for families.
Good Food Good Mood
We visited Gelobar last night which was a really yummy experience. They have cakes aplenty but you can’t go past the gelato, I tried several flavours and they were all delicious. Eventually I settled on hazelnut and coconut stacked generously in a cup. You can taste the quality of a product authentically made

Great all rounder gelobar have some of the best gelato in the area particularly the blood orange

Stopped in for dessert with some friends after dinner out.  Service and ambiance were fine.  <br/><br/>The amaretti was nice, the cherry frangipane tasted nice but was a little off, texturally, and the rum baba with vanilla custard was so bad I didn't finish it (perhaps the type of rum or rum essence used).<br/><br/>The limoncello, chocolate sorbetto, and cherry gelato were acceptable.

A dessert bar filled with desserts and ice cream. The inside was very spacious and there were outside seating. There was an assortment of different desserts. <br/>The ice cream bar has a good selection of flavours and different types of cones to choose. The ice cream I have was really nice. I didn’t enjoy the sorbet as much.

Staff are amazing! So friendly and nice people.we had a great night there with my family. Highly recommend their tiramisu cake! Thank you for a great night.

My Key Three Pointers <br/>* Was my dessert destination, not sure if I will be back.<br/>* So many Ice cream places are now available that I don’t find the need for you. <br/>* Do you watch master chef, taste taste taste. <br/><br/>I have been coming to Gelobar for years, as I child I grew up on their ice-cream. Amazing back then now competition makes it A Ok. The desserts have always been really nice but last night I got a horrible mess. My husband was out and while watching master chef I started to crave dessert. He came back home with a lemon meringue and cheese cake, I was super excited and it ends there. What happened to the soft peaks of egg white meringue, instead I got mouthfuls of undissolved sugar. The lemon curd was not set and it was the most horrible texture. The cheesecake was bland and for a dessert that is my absolute favorite all I could think of was unnecessary calories, after one spoon did not feel like I should have to work out 2 days to burn this off.
Whalesfoodadventure
Got the mint and oreo icecream in a chocolate coated waffled cone. Absolutely amazing and texture! Icecream is homemade ! Cant get enough of the ice cream in gelo bar
Ondreea De Vincentis
Got the nutella pizza and coffees, which were both delicious and came out very quickly. Staff are friendly and helpful.<br/>Only downfall is that there is no heating in the outdoor dining area for those cold nights!!

Gelo Bar is a Brunswick East Icon, further up on Lygon St from Carlton this gem of a gelati and cake shop is always busy, filled with locals and people who travel near and far alike.<br/><br/>It’s been a while since I’ve visited and today my partner and I decided to drop by for gelati. There were a lot of great flavours to choose from, my mango flavour was tangy and sweet and my partners lemon flavour sour and tasty.<br/><br/>There were cakes on display, some looked ok but others not so nice. I think you’re safe with gelati but I’d give the cakes a miss. <br/><br/>There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. An oldie but goodie of a place, I will be sure not to wait so long for my next visit.
Tastybites
Got my food within 5 mins of being served. These waffles were really good and very good for its price. It’s a good deal if you want to go there for dessert with friends #dessert#waffles#nutella

Please inspect your food before it enters your mouth. As to the business, please make sure your ingredients are fresh and clean before you serve to the public.<br/><br/>

Iconic Italian gelato! I’ve been here so many times that I have lost count. Probably went here every couple of weeks during my childhood. Went back more recently to see that they had renovated. The gelato is still as delicious and smooth, with traditional Italian flavours. I always go for the chocolate and mix it up with a new flavour. Definitely worth a visit when in the area!

My first instinct was to come into Gelobar after dinner elsewhere for the gelato that they practically introduced to Melbourne many many years ago. Instead I got distracted by the cakes bar and ended up taking a lemon meringue tart home to have with a cuppa later in the even. I should have stuck with my first instinct because sadly the beautifully presented tart was very much a let down. The Italian meringue still had a sugar grain texture in it so needed further blending/refining. The lemon filling was quite lacklustre and almost thick custard like and not a curd at all. The pastry was actually the best part of the tart. <br/><br/>I’ve tried enough of these to know this wasn’t right and it’s one of my favourite desserts so a real shame this didn’t cut the mustard. Stick to the delicious Gelato at the back.

I have been here twice once around lunch time and once around dinner time, both the instances they said they were out of crepes or any other food which isn’t available in the display. However the third time I got he chance to have their crepes which were fine.
Passion On A Plate
Wanted a quick bite to eat,<br/>Ordered calamari and salad asked if it was fresh they said yes!<br/>It was tasteless! It was not fresh but from a packet! We also shared a cake , they looked nice but the custard slice was like eating glue. .<br/>This place was an icon and had great food not any more!
Therese Rowan
My favourite gelato place in Melbourne. There’s always a big range of flavours to choose from and it is always delicious. Have been back a number of times and have never been let down. Highly recommend

What I have to say...It is an Iconic place! Super Italian vibe. Strong Dark espresso! Beautiful Pastry! Awesome icecream! Incredible food! 100%

Ordered the ‘Nutella’ crepes. Had barely any Nutella on it. The crepes were still raw and very soft. Felt so sick 🤢 My fiancés one was also the same.

Gelobar is far more than just a gelateria. Open from early morning until late at night, Gelobar covers everything from breakfast to late night cocktails, with dining options encompassing pasta, pizza and panini. And then there are the sweet indulgences, which are always very distracting… luscious torte, biscotti and pasticcini (pastries). So, so tempting…<br/><br/>Everything, including the gelati (and the cakes!), is made at Gelobar. If you manage to resist the cakes, Gelobar has a good range of traditional style gelato, with the classics, both dairy and non-dairy (sorbetto), well represented.<br/><br/>Flavours we have enjoyed include pistachio, mango, bounty (coconut) and limoncello. Generous serves and friendly service.
George David Michaelides
Oh yummy the chocolate calzone with ice cream is a delight, the coffee is Melbourne like robust and flavoursome. After spending the last few days in Hamilton island and drinking warm brown milk it’s nice to feel real coffee again
Mia Tua
I like gelobar! The quality of gelato has gotten better in the last couple of years. Good flavour selection, decent portions and well priced.
Vegetarian Food Lover
I’ve been to Gelobar many times for ice cream. There is a huge variety of gelato flavors but the gelato are quite ordinary. Today we went to Gelobar for drinks after dinner. I ordered a peppermint tea for $4 and it was very disappointing. It was a peppermint teabag with a small pot of hot water. That’s expensive for a $4 teabag with a bit of hot water. Definitely wouldn’t come back to Gelobar for tea. Staff was friendly & nice though.
Lolaraean9
Great ice cream and dessert place to go to. It is very family friendly and perfect for a hot day. I would go back here. The ice cream is delicious and very smooth. Would recommend to everyone! 🍦🍦🍦

We came to Gelobar to get dessert to take home. It was quite busy on Friday night and most of the cakes are sold out. There was a queue going for the gelato but no line for the cakes. My partner wanted the tiramisu so I bought one to take home. For $6, it was quite a generous serve. Whilst it didn't look that enticing in the tray on the display cabinet but the minute we had the first bite at home, we're blown away by how good it was! It was definitely better than some of the Tiramisu served in the Italian restaurants on Lygon street and for much better value!!

Lovely service and with a vast range of sweets and goodies! Absolutely delicious. Such a nice interior and well spaced out for each section. Would definitely come next time for dinner as well as dessert.

Ice cream: 10/10 do yourself a favour and go here onstead of zero gradi across the road. <br/>Service: friendly but sometimes the staff are too busy socialising with each other to serve you promptly.<br/>The pizzas are also good, however its unfortunate that its the only dish you can get as a take away option (would like to try more things with out needing to dine in.)<br/>

Thank you Gelo Bar for hosting my sons communion last night. We we're extremely delighted in the high quality food, service atmosphere and the table set up. The place looked elegant, spacious and had a tranquil ambience. <br/><br/>The cake made by the Gelo bar, was the best tasting cake I've had. All our guests were very impressed. <br/><br/>Special thank you to Gelo Bar Manager Andrew - 'Andrea' who provided us with with a great menu ideas & service with a smile. <br/><br/>Andrea it was a pleasure dealing with you & will be back. You are the best restaurant manager that we have experienced. Keep up the good work. You & the Gelo bar staff exceeded any set expectations we had for our celebration & we would highly recommend this restaurant. <br/><br/>The dedication and happiness of all the staff made our celebration happier and definitely more comfortable.

Now I lived around Brunswick for years before I tried this place and when I did eventually try it....mmmm....my experience was mixed, staff member was very abrupt...I often find if your not Italian you don't matter.....and it is noticeable....I waited till a customer who was serviced prior was treated with the utmost respect, friendly, chatty and couldn't do more....speaking Italian...<br/>As soon as I said hello instead of the usual Ciao, the smile disappeared and it was very abrupt....so I guess it depends on your nationality....so no I won't be going back...but the gelato is awesome
Winnie
I arrived at the Gelobar while I was singing Taylor swift's song with my beautiful voice. I looked at the options and sang my order "I would like 1 chocolate ice cream scoop be fast or it'll turn to soup, lalalala, with a cone please hurry or I'll hit you with a drone" I repeated my awesome. Lyrics twice and then tasted my ice cream when I finished the scoop inside the cone was a small chinchilla wearing a tutu. It ran away out of the store down the street to zero gradi. What an experience!
Jenny Li
Was surprised at how generous the scoops of gelato were here, esp compared to other places. We felt a bit sick after eating all that, but to be fair that was our fault for thinking we could take on two scoops haha. The flavours (hazelnut and coconut, limoncello and pistachio) were on point and powerful. Would definitely go back here again for quality AND value.

Nice coffee, nice desserts, nice food. It's all just nice... if I didn't live in the area I probably won't make the effort to come here. It is great in the hot weather to seat out side with a dessert after dinner.

I used to live on Lygon street about 5 minutes walk from Gelobar and it somewhat became my second home. Always my favourite place to venture to and always for the Gelato. Whilst they do have a huge range of Italian pastries and cakes, coffee, and food it’s the Gelato that i’m always drawn to and what make this place a local legend.
CoolBeans
They offer a myriad of desserts. All mouthwatering and instagram worthy! Regardless of the weather there's a cue for ice cream which are delicious. The desserts cue is sometimes not served fairly as the wait staff completely ignores. <br/>It's open till late and is a good place for coffee and cake.

Great Quality Ice Cream <br/><br/>This place is a  favorite of mine, set in the heart of Lygon st Brunswick. Always busy and always delivers. <br/><br/>Great flavor options and great prices, offering a waffle cone is also key because no one wants one of those dry and not so nice standard cones do they. The Salted caramel is a must here but also the lemon its super fresh and light. They also offer a wide range of baked goods which i have had on several occasions recommending the Salted caramel eclair! <br/><br/>No i don't have an issue with salted caramel thing there just the best. <br/><br/>This place also does food and coffee which i have not tried but would as the rest impresses, no longer living so close is fine as we go back often enough to visit. They have a large outdoor area which is heated in winter too.<br/><br/>Restaurant Type : Super Casual Day & Night Ice cream snack bar.

Place is a hit and miss, sometimes you go and think it's up there with the place across the road, then sometimes it's like eating from la porchetta. Service is the same hit and miss.

Gelobar is an iconic landmark of East Brunswick. I always find myself ducking in for a quick gelato. Tonight i had snickers and pistachio... mmm! Easily the best gelato in Melbourne. Butterscotch and salted caramel are also winners! Look it's a bit tough to get a seat on a warm night but worth the wait or else just take your gelato and run.
Roger Smithson
Great food. Lovely atmosphere...but for gods sake can businesses please have staff that speak and understand English! It's annoying repeating yourself 5 times and then to be given the wrong food.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
For more than 25 years, Gelobar has been delivering gelato to the citizens of Brunswick. The best flavours are as good as any we have tasted – special mentions for the chocolate sorbet and the blood orange.
Sienna Abby
I ordered a few little deserts for take away. The service wasn't the best because the lady didn't greet us with a smile or anything. She just said what would you like. The deserts were beautiful. The shop is always clean and tidy. Just the service needs to be attended to
Buon Gusto
The ice cream maybe nice but the food is terrible. Antipasto was something you buy prepackaged at Coles. Service is ordinary waiters are rushed.
Nischal Sharma
Great location - Right next to the Weston Street Tram station. Brilliant Gelati - Pistachios and Hazelnut flavors are by far the best - hands down.
ThE MOiStMaKeR
Decent taste and decent price! However, I have to mention that the service wasn't great. I don't expect 5 Star service ever but I do feel more comfortable with a simple smile.

The Gelobar would have to be one of the most iconic features on the Italian strip of Lygon Street Brunswick. The newly renovated vicinity has been modernised not only just featuring an outstanding gelato bar but also including a dessert bar with crepes and a restaurant out the back serving exclusive pizzas and pasta dishes perfect for a fun family dinner. The expansion also features a modernised bar, coffee counter and to further contribute to a reason to expand ones waist line after indulging in all this traditional Italian cuisine, there is a massive glass cabinet filled with pastries and sweet treats far beyond ones sweet toothed dream. <br/><br/>I have not visited this amazing establishment for years but after a night out on Lygon street I opted to give into my cravings and shortly found myself adoring the sensational atmosphere of the Gelobar. After spending an eternity viewing all the desserts and finally managing to make my way through the horde of people occupying the large interior I was left to order 3 gelato flavours being Melon, Limoncello and Coffee in a cup.  <br/><br/>As soon as the soft creamy thick Gelato hit my taste buds I knew I was in heaven and immediately was transported back to my past travels to Italy. The Gelobar is the only place that serves the traditional Gelato like you can find back at its origin residing in Italy. The full fruity textures of the melon was delightful and refreshing and the consistency of silky folds of smooth cool gelato on the palate was outstanding across all flavours with no lumps present. The standout flavour would have to be the hearty Limoncello that definitely used the real deal alcoholic substance with no trace of an artificial flavours in site. The flavour was tangy and utterly divine. The last flavour to tantalise my tastebuds was the dark roasting aromas of a strong bold long black that had been brewed to perfection yet being disguised as an perfectly creamy gelato. The coffee flavour was lovely and strong and not sweet at all which is favourable for my palate. <br/><br/>My friend who opted to venture on this foodie journey with me was just as tempted as I was and decided on a waffle cone featuring the flavours of Lemon and Mango. The Lemon like the Limoncello was lovely and tangy slightly more sour though. The Mango legit just tasted like one was eating a never ending thick juicy mango served chilled and both flavour where equally devoured as quickly as the others. The waffle cone defiantly upped the gelato game by adding a nice textual crisp crunch to keep the palate excited. The cone was sweet but not over powering ensuring that no flavour was deducted from the immaculate Gelato.<br/><br/>The Gelobar is certainly worthy of a visit. The amazing environment full of joy crafted by the traditional Italian cuisine on offer its no wonder the place is always packed and full of noise yet don't let this deter you away  from stepping inside as i promise you, you won't regret it.

Came here tonight for some ice cream. Recommend getting the Nutella and Forest berries flavour combination if you like a balance of sweet and sour. Also tried the chocolate and strawberry in a choc top cone which is the messier option due to melting ice cream. Wasn't a fan of the choc top cone, ice cream and service was good 👍🏻
Foodie McFoodie
Let me put it this way, if I have to wait 20 minutes with kids to get an ice cream because I have been ignored on 5 different occasions and other people have pushed in the line then your ice cream parlour must be run by monkeys! Absolutely disgraceful service and super rude staff! Disgusted!
"JT" Jeffrie Trika
Most popular spot on the esplanade .....<br/><br/>Either a local favourite or people travel to get here for their gelato or desserts. <br/>Always full just about everytime we go there.<br/><br/>Most generous serving of Gelato at $6 for a double on a Waffle.<br/>Their desserts are fantastic and reasonable too.<br/><br/>Coffee is ordinary though.

Lemoncello slice, light liquor sponge cake, yum 😍. Perfect place for desert, coffee and gelato. Gelato cakes too! Great venue and friendly staff.

Really good. Gelato is top notch. They have really gone out of their way to make this look italian. Its now lygon street brunswick that is the more authentic side. Forget Carlton.

We never felt the urge to write a review but this time is clearly the case.<br/><br/>we give to this place 1 just to avoid someone else having the same bitter and shameful experience we had!<br/><br/>we ordered our food from an incredibly slacking, inattentive and clearly annoyed old lady, she was visible upset by our requests!<br/><br/>she showed up at our table addressing us in an awful manner, especially after we asked to one of the waiters and then with the manager to get one of the drinks we previously ordered from her as she clearly didn't include it in our order. <br/><br/>Clearly annoyed by this she had the face to run from the counter to our table and implying that we were trying to don't pay 4 dollars worth of drinks while we already paid at the time 30 dollars worth of food!! logic doesn't apply in this place? instead of politely clarify the situation she insulted and treated us as we were two liars and thieves???? <br/><br/>rude and arrogant, clearly narrow minded and unhappy of her job, better she learns how to manage situations instead of spit her bitter bile at her clients!  <br/><br/>on top of this the food was awful and overpriced, just sugary and tasteless! <br/><br/>we will never go back and we suggest you to save yourself of such an experience!
Alessandra
the place to get your sugar fix when all others are closed. Definitely better than Brunetti.Been here a few times and I love the chocolate ice cream, very creamy and rich. Cakes pretty good too. NY Cheesecake is just fabulous
Date With Beneva
Take away chocolate meringue cake and pear cranberry cheesecake.. Cake was pretty average but acceptable for that price ($5, which is a lot cheaper than many places that serve thin slices of cake).. Just that a big part of my cheesecake base was shelled out which i wasnt really happy about :(

Ahh Gelobar. A Brunswick institution. <br/><br/>B and I have been here roughly 3 times in the past month at 10pm though usually for cakes as I prefer the gelato at Zero Gradi across the road.<br/><br/>The cakes have been very hit and miss. <br/><br/>Great profiteroles, average donuts, great mud cake, average vanilla slice.<br/><br/>I will continue to find the good items but it’s not the place I’d choose when others are open. Also be prepared for a headache as parents let their kids run around the place going nuts at 10pm. I haven’t eaten in due to this, preferring to walk home and listen to traffic instead.
Devil In The Detail
This is a cute little Italian cafe in the heart of Brunswick that showcases a magnificent array for desserts. Service is excellent, vibe is always alive - laughter echos the room. We had the nutella crepes with strawberries - consistently a top pick. Definitely a place to go.<br/><br/>Its cuteness shouldn't be taken lightly, you might be sitting next to mafia leader and you probably wouldn't even know it.
Jim Soliman
gelato was amazing and the seating area was massive so it was easy to sit with my children and enjoy. But 7.50$ for a children's ice cream is ridiculous, our waiter Cara was beautiful.
Ket
Great cake! Had the rum baba, meringue lemon tart and Nutella cheese cake. I loved the rum baba!! It was saturated with its syrup yet was still fluffy? I also like how they had loose leaf tea
Bec C
Good desserts but the restaurant food is average at best. Pizzas are quite average and the pastas aren't too good (acidic sauces make me think it has been microwaved).
Laurence Corsetti
My family and I have been coming here for years and we have never been disappointed. I thought a review was in order after the exceptional service from Andrea the other day. He always goes out of his way to make us feel welcome, suggesting menu options as well as explaining the different types of pastas and desserts from his home town. We finished off with the Mille Foglie – fantastic. A restaurant can have great food, but it’s the people that can make or break. Apart from the sexy Italian accent, cheeky smile and those ridiculous blue eyes, you definitely have a gem in Andrea. We love the place even more now. Definitely recommend :)
Mark Rabahi
You feel a bit uncomfortable when the pizza chef has an argument with the waitress. On the plus side, it was in Italian, so at least it sounded glorious. <br/><br/>The other pizza chef there seemed like an apprentice who was learning the ropes on the job. That would explain the black burnt crust. Again, on the plus side, the ingredients were fresh. The sauce leaves a little to be desired; it was a bit watery and was lacking of flavour. I'm hoping it was simply an aberration. <br/><br/>The aforementioned waitress was fabulous and looked after our large table very well. Her, and the deserts, are worth visiting for.
Bek Chiu
Awesome dessert place with a great range of desserts. Really nice gelato with a good range of flavours with a mix of your chocolatey indulgences and your refreshing fruity fixes. This place is always buzzing and the line for gelato was out the door when we left. Definitely go again.
Mark Milne
My go to desert place when on lygon street.<br/><br/>Nice selection of gelato and sorbet either in a cup or cone.<br/><br/>Large range of cakes and sweets to choose from as well to satisfy your sweet tooth.<br/><br/>Coffee from gelo bar never dissapoints either.
Sol_n_chai
I came here a few months ago and bought a few cakes. The establishment was incredibly busy but I was served quite promptly and the service was pleasant. The cakes were lovely, I'll definitely be back to try more cakes and maybe even some ice cream!
Pulchra Cladis
Incredible customer service, no cannoli available until the guy went and made some fresh just for my friend and I! <br/><br/>First time eating cannoli, best experience thanks guys!

Serve good range of Gelati ice cream.. Love their chocolate fondant... Dont like it too sweet and this place serve it just nice.. our favourite dessert place so far..
Maria Ruberto
A great place to have an artisan gelato and a good cup of coffee. The cakes are delicious too and you can't go past the vanilla slice. A vibrant friendly place. Highly recommend it.
Alex Tee
Really enjoy the gelato and cakes here. Usually have good service but had a particularly bad young girl serve us the last time we went. <br/><br/>We walked up to the still full gelato case and were blatantly ignored by the girl behind, as it had been a while and we were still waiting to have any sort of acknowledgement from her I ordered my gelato at her, she begrudgingly gave me my ice cream without a word. <br/><br/>My partner then ordered a scoop of a flavour that she had taken out and put on the bench in the time that we were standing being ignored, at this request, she threw his cup up into the air in a big huff, rolled her eyes and sighed even though there was still some left, I'm not entirely sure why she continued to take anything out in the first place as we were clearly wanting to order as I'm sure the other customers that approached the gelato case were too. <br/><br/>I have never encountered this poor customer service and was genuinely shocked at the attitude we received, there is absolutely no excuse for her behaviour. I just wanted a gelato.
Lisa Poppy
The cakes and gelati here are absolutely delicious. What always lets this place down is the clueless staff. Without fail, every time we go to this place they mess up our order.
Mel
Excellent place for coffee, cake and gelato. An excellent variety of cakes to choose from. The gelato was good; it was tasty with a smooth texture.
Christopher James
Gelato Heaven.<br/><br/>This place has been delivering the best gelato since i was 5 years old (Now 24). Genuine gelato which has been a go to for my family for as long as i have been conceived, i always tell people about this place and they are never disappointed. Highly Recommend. This place and Messina are on their own level.

Great enviroment unfortunately ruined by a bad service! Pizza took 50 mins to arrive and only after I asked for it, waitress mumbled to us unapologetically that the pizza maker is too slow! <br/>People still want good custmer service, really sorry but I won't be back!<br/>

Loved it. Perfect place for a quiet drink. Beautiful beer garden, pool tables that operate for $1 and a fair selection of microbrews What more could I ask for on such a beautiful day.

Great function space. Believe it or not Cafe L'amour is a sure bet if you need to book for a big late night bash or if you want to play some pool and have a tipple in an old school dive. <br/><br/>The late night liquor license is worth its weight in gold given I'm local and its earned its place as a common stopoff place for late nights when replacement bevvies are needed...... Never eaten here, never plan to as its liquid only purpose in my life fits just fine.

The coffee was so good I bought a bag of beans over the counter. Perfect place to quietly sip coffee and read the paper. To the owners - please don't change a thing.

Old school. If you accept it for what it is, great fun.

Coffee & brandy. Where else at 10am can you get a Espresso and a small brandy for $4.00!! Limited menu with usually a few sandwiches & rolls but what there is is always very fresh.

It’s the food and value for money that you go for not the decor. The interior decoration belongs to the style ‘we-have-some-tables-and-chairs-we’ll-put-them-out’ – very basic – with a red plastic fly curtain at the entrance. That’s half its charm. And you are there for your stomach and a taste sensation. The decor doesn’t matter.

Cafe L’Amour was very quiet on the day of our visit, hence it was difficult to see their full potential. The meals we had were average in taste; great service though.

Gelobar has been our favourite gelati location in Melbourne for sometime because of this mango and bacio combination
Gastrology
After 20 years, of Gelobar still remains focused on three things - food, family and love. Apart from introducing Melbourne to the famous recipes of gelati, Gelobar has now offers compelling authentic Italian fare (both sweet and savoury) to enjoy over coffee or a few glasses of amidst a vibrant and energetic atmosphere.

We wish we lived in Melbourne!. We found Gelobar on our second last day in Melbourne and visited it twice. On both occasions the staff were just so friendly and welcoming. The Panini"s were so fresh and delicious and the sweets are to die for! By far this is a must place to visit on Lygon St. <br/>This was our favourite café/restaurant in Melbourne and we ate out a lot! We would be regular customers if we lived in Melbourne.

Was great now lacks customer service. Large variety but unfortunately does not cater for families, friends or couples. Unless you all eat identical items, you cannot sit together as we discovered. If your kids want ice cream they can only sit at the tables outside regardless and coffee drinkers or savory eaters can only eat at the tables inside the front area BUT those wanting a meal can only eat at the back tables after the barb area, so say goodbye to your company and family.<br/>To add further insult, once you finish, you are are immediately told to leave or vacate the tables for other patrons (would have liked 10 - 15 mins though) which happened to us two minutes after finishing our food / coffee, so forget having a conversation. If you want accommodating friendly customer service, then sit at tables not owned by the Gelobar. Pity we used to come with our parents when we were kids and then we came with our kids, BUT management has changed and so has the customer service.

Gelobar make wonderful authentic pizza and calzone. Tonight the service was perfect, the woodfired pizza was superb made with passion and care. We'll be back.

Great ice cream, terrible service. I've been coming here for over 10 years and the ice cream always tastes great. However I can't say the same about the service. Last time there was a really friendly guy serving the ice cream, but back to the same snakey girls. A year or so ago they expanded into the shop next door, but since the expansion you're not allowed to sit at the tables to eat ice cream. I was asked by twice within 2 minutes if I was going to order coffee, because to sit on the seats you have to buy more than ice cream.

Always a family favourite!. Regardless of whether it is summer or winter, Gelobar is my go to place for gelati, desserts and coffee. The staff are always friendly and recently they have added a small selection of wood fire pizza's to the menu and coming from Italian heritage myself I can say that these pizza's are the most authentic I have tried in the Melbourne area (and I have tried many!) Forget the rest, Gelobar is the go to place for pizza, they are beyond delicious! I usually don't eat much but easily finished the prosciutto pizza I ordered all on my own! I liked the fact that the bocconcini was added on fresh after the pizza had come out the oven is was a lovely contrast! So fresh!

It's all about the gelati. The food and coffee is really really average (I could do better at home and it would cost me half the money) but the gelato is really delicious. I love that they have Italian flavours too like masala and zabaglione. Worth queuing for.

Well, the cakes and gelato are awesome and value for money. However didn't display the best of service standards around.

The juice is not worth the squeeze when it comes to value for money. Plenty of other better priced alternatives in the gelato market. However, if you want the inside scoop then this is your place!

A great venue for a private function. We held a large private function for about 70 adults and 20 children using Gelobar’s restaurant area and we were so impressed with the food and service. The size of the room was great and they were very flexible to lay it out to please both young (who were happy to stand and mingle) as well as old (who needed a seat from time to time). Plus the courtyard area gave the chance for people to step out and for kids to run around a little.<br/><br/>We had a spectacular array of finger food from delicious pizza through to tasty mini-hamburgers and beautiful arancini, to name a few. All the food was so fresh and tasty.<br/><br/>The cake that they made for us was mouth watering – it was definitely the highlight from a food perspective, so much so that our guests, who were already full from eating all the other treats, still found room to enjoy a slice.<br/><br/>Finally, we found the staff to be so giving and professional – they really made it their mission to ensure that our guests had as much of a memorable day as we did.<br/><br/>We were thoroughly impressed with all aspects of the function! Thanks to Pino, Chiara and the rest of the Gelobar staff!
