Went there for my 40th and was in heaven. A Belgium ipa was big hit. Amazing selection of beers I'd never tried. Certainly a highlight of my trip to melbourne and will be on the list of must do again's when I'm down in the future.
Lured here by the husband's fondness of a good beer, we discovered a cool venue with a chilled vibe... the perfect kind of place to enjoy a cold brew or two.
Divided into two separate areas, it has a warehouse feel with exposed bricks and lots of timber. A large bar area at the rear serves up a good offering of beers. We found the staff and regulars to be friendly, and it was quite busy with a fun vibe. Service was really good and we enjoyed our drinks over the course of a couple of hours. I could see the Alehouse Project as a great place to spend an afternoon with friends enjoying a few snacks as well as those awesome beers.
We were invited to The Slow Mexican last night which was a pop up restaurant in the Alehouse Project. The food wasn’t particularly exciting, pretty basic fare even though the nachos looked tremendous they lacked the correct toppings ratio. The tacos were quite non eventful for me although they did come with several spicy sauce options to make them a little more flavoursome.
The dessert tacos weren’t impressive either. I love the concept but they just felt like they were lacking something. Churros which had been struck from the menu (maybe cos they aren’t exactly Mexican) would have been a better option. Aside from this thought we discovered a really cool bar. I absolutely loved the atmosphere in here and if you are a beer lover this is definitely one to check out for it’s impressive array

A beer gem of Melbourne! This place is serving an extensive and awesome range of beers for all. At the time, I particularly enjoyed the sours on tap! Its a pretty cool little spot with a nice ambience and friendly staff.
Came here on a bar hopping night. The ambiance is rustic and had a great vibe to it. Great selection of craft beers which could be an issue when you are already tipsy. But again, there is never too many beers to choose from. Would recommended to try their selection of beers.
What more can I say? Great night out, awesome burgers, and a phenomenal selection of beers. It's typical brunswick fair, so if you like that, you'll love the Alehouse project.

This is a great place to come with mates to watch a game or chat over some beers (which change almost every week). The food is good and is better than your average bar fare.
The burgers were just okay but I think the main appeal here is the beers as my dad had raved about the beers and the range. There was certainly a novelty factor to the deep fried cheeseburger but that was all to remember in terms of food.
I think this place is great for hanging out for drinks but I would consider other places if you are specifically looking for eating - one would expect a place named "The Alehouse Project" to pride itself on its beers - not food - so that is fair enough

Nice beer selection but underwhelming food. I found the staff helpful and pleasant, if not particularly chatty. A decent spot for an afternoon beer but head out onto Lygon for dinner.
The Alehouse Project is a bar in Brunswick East that sells a carefully selected choice of craft beers from both Australian brewers and from around the world. If you haven’t been to the area for a while, you might remember that the space was formerly the Comfortable Chair. Let me assure you, the Alehouse bears little resemblance to the bar of old, with owners Andy Tynan and Alex Summers having given the place a complete overhaul, creating one of Melbourne’s best craft beer venues in the process.

Yum yum yum. Love the atmosphere here and the service is great. I would do many, many things for the pork rack! The new outdoor area is fantastic and warm and the new menu is amazing, except the burger which is now way below par. If you want a cool place to have some fine beer and food this is it.
Loved it. So many beers I felt dizzy! Asked for a girl beer and the guy laughed but was happy to help out. Great staff, fantastic beer, and I loved the vibe of the place. We tried the chips...yum, yum, yum. There were also burgers and steaks on the menu. Actually, we just came for a snack but I wished we were there for a meal because they looked great. I came just me and my hubby but I recon it would be an ever better place to come with friends - lots of big tables (though still has tables for 2) and then you can sample more beers!
Beers great, food slightly better than average.. I'd recommend going here for a couple of fancy beers..........at over $15 for a pint of some, they don't come cheap.......but the flavours are amazing and the staff, which seems to be the same guy every time, is very pleasant and always keen for a little chat about the brews.

I've been a regular drinker here since opening. I had a meal here not long after opening that was really nice. Since then they have brought in a new chef and OMG was it worth it. The wife and I came in for a feed and a friendly beer. I had the Alehouse burger and my wife had the fish and chips. The burger came on a board with the onion tomato and beer root in a nice pile on the side. Almost a choose your own adventure burger. I went with it all, plus the relish, and it was amazing. The burger is thick, juicy and delicious. Topped off with a brioche bun an u have a bloody good burger. If u like burgers, you'll love this. Then there are the chips. They get a whole section on their own. The triple cooked chips are absolutely delicious. The wife and I debated and we think they are boiled, roasted and fried. But don't quote me. These are probably the best chips I've had. Just salted, nothing fancy. And for a classic chip I haven't come across anything better yet. Then there was the fish. I had a taste of it too, and the rockling was sweet and lightly battered and delicious. The perfect mix between crispness and and melt in your mouth velvet softness (wife's words not mine). To too it all off you can't beat the friendliness of Andy an Alex running the bar. After a couple if visits they know your name and can tell u what beer u should try, as will gladly give you a taste of something new. I will be back in a flash for the burger (didnt tell the wife I had a cheeky burger here for lunch last Saturday)
Here for New Years Eve 2012. The package is good value at 99 each for beer, cider, wine, sparkling and soft drink. Bar service has been helpful, fast and entertaining. Band is pretty good. Food service started off well, until the one girl serving food started favouring her friends and larger tables. Two hours without a bite! Other than this bias I really like the place and would come back.
Great night all round. Went to the trivia night last night with a few friends. 2nd time I've played and it's been really fun both time. Would highly recommend.
Since they've changed to the alehouse from the comfy chair too the whole place is a lot brighter and nicer to sit in. Love the selection of beers and happy to pay $9.5 for a pint of mountain goat or little creatures.
The kitchen isn't quite set up yet but I was very surprised with how much I enjoyed the slow cooked beef brisket burrito for $10. Wasn't expecting much because of the closed kitchen and was really happy with it and a lot of spice was good too for a chilli lover.
Worth a return visit. Went for dinner with friends on a Thursday night and this place rated highly with all of us. Friendly and knowledgable staff, tasty food, great selection of craft beers and really good coffee. All in all had a great night in an easy venue. Heard these guys do a good trivia night on Wednesday nights. I'll come back.
I'm not a huge beer drinker, but there's other stuff here to drink, like the tasty Lick Pier alcoholic ginger beer. There's also a little library and a' big buck hunter' arcade game, and last time I was there I heard Bowie's Scary Monsters album in entirety (RAD!). Service was great. I chatted to the girl with the camille rose garcia tattoo about the books and she recommended one to me. Good Sunday arvo all round.
What is with the attitude lassy? She needs to be a bit more hospitable. After all that is the name of the game.
Drank awesome beer. The place looks a million times better than when it was formally the Comfortable Chair. Haven't eaten though
Great intimate venue. Great selection of beers to choose from and reasonably priced. Would be ideal for social functions, a quiet beer or two and shows all sports like rugby union's super league and the boxing. You can order uber eats and The Alehouse Project has plenty of eateries around it. An absolute hidden gem.
Dedicated to independent craft, beers, these guys invariably have a fascinating selection on tap, often from local breweries. There is a mix of tall wood benches and padded seats in two main areas with lovely exposed brick walls. Multiple screens show seasonal AFL/rugby games. The bathrooms are not a highlight. The chicken wings are cheap and tasty. (Yes, that is a beer I'm holding: Moon Dog's "My Blue Heaven" Raspberry Vanilla Milkshake IPA).

Simply one of the best beer bars I've been to in Melbourne. The staff are super friendly, the atmosphere is really chilled out and easy to relax in, and best of all, the beers are fantastic. I would highly recommend this place to anyone as a must-go.
A lot of places claim to have good beer and just have the same old pale ales. The alehouse always has interesting and challenging beers (with a couple of safer options for the masses). The staff could not be friendlier. Just a great place to be.
Great craft beer house. They have rotating taps with them apparently only buying a single keg of any beer type. On the downside, if you find something that you like, it'll be hard to find again. But they have had a great selection of red beers recently and there is always something interesting and unique.
