Review Thaila Thai - Brunswick East

Charlotte Butcher
The best Thai in Melbourne. Have been going with family since I was a little kid. The chef/ owner always makes a fuss. Worth a special trip, we drive 40 minutes for it. The best staff with the yummiest, freshest food. An absolute institution. Love these guys.

What really shines when you visit Thaila Thai, isn’t the delicious green curry or the scrumptious pad Thai. What really takes the cake is the incredible service they provide. The positivity of the servers, the cheerful demeanour and honest recommendations they provide. Beautiful people.
Binsheng Liu
We ordered a red curry, a lamb curry and a stir fried vegetables. Every dish was good. The stir fry surprised me because I never expected to have such traditional flavor in Australia. Highly recommend their stir fry dish and lamb curry.

I’m so disappointed. I ordered pad Thai and pad see ew and when I opened the containers I got a whiff of wet tea towel. I ignored it but as you can see how dry it was, flavorless and mushed together from over cooking. I paid $17.5 on deliveroo and on Uber they charge $19.5!!! I couldn’t even finish it. I won’t be ordering from them ever again.

Still our all time fave Thai place ❤❤Food and service never disappoints. As usual everything was super fresh and delicious.

Delicious, fresh food - have been coming here for many years and it has always had amazing food at reasonable prices.
Helena Kidd
I use to love their food until tonight when l ordered take away. My container was half full the sauce watery and the vegetables not as many or variety as previously. Maybe my meal was rushed but l didnt enjoy it as l have in the past.

Arrived at 6pm, was not busy. Always great food here, especially the chicken skewers with peanut sauce and the butterflies, along with all of their dishes. Super quick service how ever your order may come out randomly served with entrees after mains, but great overall.

Hard to beat the yellow curry. Soy and Chilli stirfry gets an honourable mention. Servings are huge, ingredients always fresh and owner is cheerful. Always worth the 40km weekly drive. WTF. Why can I only give 4 stars max? Screw you Zomato!!!!

We are locals and have been wanting to try this place for ages. Now I know why we didn't... Ordered a pad ke mao and literally got a bunch of wet soy sauce noodles. Container is filled with juice at the bottom. Had to ask for Veggies because this said they don't put any in the ke mao. If you want authentic Thai food, go elsewhere.

The best thai food in Melbourne after traveling to Thai land and everywhere this is still my favorite place for thai

Good and reasonably priced Thai food is what you would find here. We came here on a weeknight to get our Thai fix and was really impressed I must say. The menu had a good variety and we decided on the pad thai and curries and it was really good. The price is reasonable, be sure to visit when you're around the area to enjoy a good thai feast.

This is the go to for cheap, yet delicious Thai food!! Nothing fancy... can be really loud and busy, however we always go back for a casual, Thai feed! The vegetarian spring rolls, pad Thai, green curry, and wide ribbons noodles with beef and vegetables are amongst our favourite!
Omar.elsernagawy
If you’re looking for good Thai food, this isn’t the place. Food is pretty bland and tasteless, definitely not worth it.
Larisa Tait
Seriously disappointing food. Thai salad consisted of large pieces of vegetables, a few bits of tofu, and a vinegar-type dressing. Spring rolls were inedible. Looked commercially made, overcooked, although the chooks thought the food was fine. Red curry with tofu had again great chunks of veg, a few bits of tofu, but the liquid part was ok (hard to stuff up the pre-made commercial paste). Service was fine. Ambience windowless tube with tables we virtually shared with other patrons. I should have twigged when table to both left and right left large amount of food uneaten.

The butterflies meh, the tom yum is another thing! Had the squid, the prawn and the vege and tofu, not sure why the different serving sizes for the seafood ones and the vegetarian, however I know what I'm doing next time, the three soups combined in one bowl, that's a good dinner. lacking in mushrooms and lemon grass but so what, I'll be back

An old favourite. Great comfort Thai food consistently good, generously served and well priced. Satay sticks are awesome and curries flavoursome. Hard to find better value elsewhere.

This place is iconic, and highly regarded amongst locals. Deserves to be over the 4 star mark. Nothing better than sitting outside Thaila Thai on a warm summers evening with some Victoria’s Butterflies, chicken satay skewers, a spot on stir fry and brilliant Pad Thai. <br/><br/>Love this place 👌😋

What a waste of time. Be advised that if you visit on a Saturday night where the upper level is booked out for a function, the staff will not honestly advise you of the extremely long wait time.<br/><br/>The staff were prompt to provide us with a table and take our food order. We were seated before 6.30pm and waited until 8pm and we did not receive any food.<br/><br/>The little kitchen in the front were prompt at cooking food for the upper level and take away orders. They completely ignored their dine in customers on the ground floor and outdoor area.<br/><br/>We patiently until 7.30pm (a hour since we arrived) before we started to ask the staff how long it was going to take for our food.<br/><br/>We asked one waiter and she did not even bother going to the kitchen to check the progress of our food order. Instead she proceeded upstairs to clear the tables. She completely forgot about us.<br/><br/>We procceded to ask another waiter the same question and she walked towards the kitchen but did not come back to advise us of the wait time.<br/><br/>It would have been nice if the staff advised us of the long wait time instead of us waiting over an hour and a half without food.<br/><br/>Another patron felt extremely frustrated at the same situation and decided to quite vocally express his dismay in front of everyone.<br/>I choose not publicly express my dismay, I simply left the restaurant.<br/><br/>It was an absolute disgrace. Waiting over 90 minutes without any food, we did not receive the entrees that we ordered. Patrons who were seated around 7.30pm received and finished their entrees before we decided to leave around 8pm.<br/><br/>Would not visit this restaurant or recommend it. I wish I could rate this place 0 or -1 stars.<br/><br/>It was an absolute disgrace.<br/>

Came here during peak hour for dinner and it was noisy. Luckily we got moved to a quieter area. Waited for some time for our food. The Victoria butterflies consist of a tiny amount of meat but was mostly fried skin. The mains consist of very generous portions and was tasty. Friendly staff!
Kaylamimi
One of my favourite Thai places in Melbourne. Amazing flavour which takes me back to the streets of Thailand and also very generous portions. Love the Thai green curry!
Anita Duong
Ordered the pad see ew and pad lemon grass, flavour wise all I got was soy sauce with no other flavour. Coconut rice should just be called plain rice as you would have to be coconuts to even pretend that the rice was coconut rice.
Allyoucaneat
I cant understand why people rate this place so highly<br/>......it has to be the cheap prices because it is definately not the quality of the food.<br/>The spring rolls were so disgusting that i am certain were cooked in oil that was 2 weeks old. Chicken satay was dry.....and tbe 2 stir fry dishes were below par as well...
Daniel
I’m giving a 4 based on the food alone. It overwhelms the slightly run down decor. Service is good, but it’s all about the noms at Thaila Thai.
Hemant Kapila
At a first glance, the place impressed as it was packed to capacity and many people were waiting for their orders. Being a Friday night, a lot of youngsters were hanging out. <br/>Despite opting for spicier variants of soups, and dishes, we got the sweeter variants and the waiter miscommunicated to the chef. We ordered TomYum (veggie and tofu), chicken noodles, and a few skewers. <br/>Probably due to the rush, the chef forgot to add flavors to the dishes and they looked very simple, oily, and tasteless; leaving the family disappointed. I won't go their again.

A favourite Thai restaurant for me, Thalia Thai always leaves me satisfied.  The food is really good and very reasonable in price.  The satay chicken skewers, green and red curry are my favourites, that satay chicken OMG! Service is good enough, I think I have had one bad encounter there where the waitress was rude but it won't stop me from continuing to come and enjoy.  BYO also so - hello winning! No EFT which is a bummer but I just know now to stop at an ATM beforehand (there is one inside the restaurant too).
Nikki
The best Thai food that I've had in Australia! Good service and so cheap! Penang curry and pad thai were the stand outs for me. Will definitely be back.
Jennifer Silverii
Great place for a cheap and tasty dinner. I love the main chef/owner that works there. Always has a smile for you. The pad Thai is the best around!
Kahl P
Consistently delicious Thai with bulk veg in the curries, which is rare! My only qualm is that the veg is so chunky! Peanut curry, pad Thai and veg spring rolls are all fantastico.
Soulman
Good cheap thai food. You will get a good meal for less than $20. The menu is a little hard to read but it's very extensive. The servings are also very large.

Best Thai in Melbourne!<br/><br/>This Place is So good and it used to be so close, This is Thai food and Thai food done well. I have Dined here and also done a pick up/ take away several times and it is always perfect. This place looks not the best and i was at first scared to go in but once your in its amazing. The Food is so fresh and authentic with an amazing Flavor Platte. I love green curry's and i am yet to find a better one, so spicy fresh and full of flavor. <br/><br/>The Victories  Butterfly's is one dish we order every time we go crispy fresh and fried filled with pork and served with a sweet and sour sauce. They crunch are always served duper hot and fresh and its a dish i love. <br/>This place is so good that i never stop for pictures i just dine in to the ginormous portions and there is always some to take home too. The staff are lovely and you can even bring your own wine which is always a bonus . Whenever i am back in Brunswick i always consider and quite often return to Thaila Thai. <br/><br/>Restaurant Type : Casual Thai

Massive serving sizes and cheap pricing. Though not so flavoursome with the Pad See Ew dish. Service was ok, waited a while for my food to come out.
Alex
Ordered two main meals alongside some entrees. The pad Thai was a good reliable dish, and the green curry was also quite nice. Overall restaurant quite casual, but good for a quick and easy takeaway night.
Real Toffee
Nice food and very big servings. Recommended for people to come and enjoy. Authentic Thailand flavours which will quench your Thai cravings.
Green Curry
A great pad thai for about fifteen dollars. The only negative is the cash only policy. Really annoying, they offer a ATM inside but it's still very annoying. Come on it's 2017.
Haley
What you see is what you get here. Food is cheap and pretty decent. Meals come out quickly and staff were friendly. It is cash only. Not the best Thai I have ever had but certainly not the worst.
Mervin
Love the food here. Their satay chicken skewers are the best in Melbourne, no one else has them with the crispy coating that thaila thai does.Great food and very cheap too. The mrs and I eat here for $30-$40 including entrees and drinks
Jekem
Excellent service and food. We return frequently for their Pad Thai, but everything else we've tried there has been delicious and served in generous portions. Other dishes we've tried were the green curry (perfect amount of spice) and peanut stir fry (loaded with fresh veggies).
Jamie Jordan
Food - Okay. Service - substandard. Cash only, and the in house ATM not working but staff did not care and refused to provide discount when having to travel over a kilometre to use another ATM
AKA
Delicious, made to share and consistently good food. Comfortable atmosphere and while there may be a wait they always sort something out. For the turnover they have the quality is always spot on. With a handy ATM in there the cash only policy isn't an issue.
Mauro Lo Piccolo
One of the best Thai places in Melbourne hands down. Food is excellent and the service is even better. The portion sizes are very generous while at a very reasonable price. Their satay skewers are the best in the city!
Donutsam
There are two distinct experiences at Thaila Thai, one where the wait is as enormous as the portion sizes and the second where everything simply clicks into place making for a pretty good experience at a very low price tag. I had slightly more of the latter and came out thinking Thaila Thai does such a fantastic job of a cheap and cheerful Thai meal. The experience here definitely isn’t for the decor or inconsistent service, it’s all about the food.
Little Pink Piggy
Used to dine at Thalia Thai quite often as it was quite close to my place. After a two year absence my partner and I decided on take away dinner here Sunday night. Two thai chicken curries and four rotis were going to cost $47! I queried this and was told roti with peanut sauce were $11 each! I'm very happy to pay for quality food but Thalia Thai prides itself on cheap, tasty fast, food. Was not happy. Food-wise, again, the quality has dropped. Bring back the Thalia Thai I knew and loved!<br/>
Ruby Bui
I'm not a huge fan of curry maybe because of bad experience in the past or other Thai dishes such as som tum or fish cakes are more interesting, until I had it here which in my opinion, is the best curry I've ever tried.<br/>+ Food: came here first time with a group of friends. We ordered the following:<br/>- Butterflies: yummy, just hope they've got vegetarian version<br/>- Curries (squid/beef/pork/veggie yellow curry): my friends who ate red meats said they love it as beef/pork cooked to the perfection, same with squid.<br/>We all tried yellow curry but later on when my bf and I are back (yes, we're now regulars :D), we figured out green curry is even much better. It's tangy, spicy and leaves a really good after taste.<br/>- Pad thai: nice but a bit too sweet for my preference<br/>- Fried rice: it was alright, not as impressive as other dishes.<br/>HIGHLIGHT: very generous portion. 1 serve of curry and 1 serve of rice can easily share between two pp.<br/><br/>+ Ambience: if it wasn't that noisy I would have given 5/5 :) So for couples who prefer a peaceful and quiet weekend night, maybe a good idea to order take-away.<br/><br/>+ Value: I think it's good value for money.<br/><br/>Recommend!
H&J Foodies
Been coming here for over 9 years, amazing food, portion sizes and value for money. Have noticed a change in quantity of seafood present in the dishes, especially in comparisons to the chicken and beef dishes
Eden K
I've been here quite a few times over the years and I've always had a great meal. However tonight was unfortunately disappointing! We started with the mixed satay sticks and they were extremely dry, we couldn't finish them. For main I ordered the stir fry vegetables with peanut sauce (my usual order) and it just didn't taste the same as it used to, almost like it wasn't as fresh or was lacking flavour. My boyfriend the Pad Thai and I thought the same about his dish
Vee
Cheap, hearty and generous Thai food. Not the most fancy restaurant but food is amazing. Try the Tom Yum soup, Fried Rice and any Stir fried noodles (I've tried the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew). The Satay Skewers are yum as well. Did I mention about $1 corkage?
Gemma
hands down my fav thai in Melbs.<br/>finally a place you get served a proper portion of vegetables! this place is always packed because it's worth it. quick, cheap and most of all delish! byo too and remember cash only so you don't get stung with ATM charge.
Foodie87
I absolutely love this place. It's takes me back to Thailand with its friendly staff and amazing authentic Thai food. Down stairs is very streets of Thailand look where upstairs is a little more formal. If you don't care about the interiors and are just there for the yummy food I would highly recommend this place. Just a word of advice if you are trying the curries prepare for an inferno! They usually don't bother listening when you ask for" not to hot"
James Elliott
This place is AMAZING! From the outside looking in, or for first timers this place does not look overly fancy or modern. BUT, that's not why you eat at Thaila Thai. The food is absolutely sensational, in every way, and ive never had a bad meal in the 12 months ive been eating there. The portions are amazing and larger than most places in Melbourne, which is great if you like to indulge like me. All of the staff are super friendly, and the pricing is fantastic. Quite cheap.<br/><br/>This place is a keeper, and I would recommend it to anybody!<br/><br/>Chya!
Roz
Best pad thai I have eaten. Worth walking in the cold and rain for. All the ingredients were fresh, and the restaurant is very clean. Highly recommend this place. <br/>
Erin
You're not here for the decor, you're here for the food. That becomes quite apparent when you sit down on plastic chairs to the ringing and bustle of the busy kitchen.<br/><br/>This means there's no pretence about the place - if the food was no good this place wouldn't exist - and I can vouch that the food is worth coming here for.<br/><br/>To the food: Satay chicken skewers, which were nice if a little understated. The 'butterflies', yellow curry with potato and veggies, and the pad Thai were all positively delicious (especially when combined with a glass or three of a decent shiraz). A certain sweetness to all the dishes, not too much spice, but most importantly no shortcuts. The food is made from scratch from good ingredients like good Thai food should be.<br/><br/>None of this will come as a surprise to those that come here often. Good Thai food, good portions, worth coming to Brunswick for.
Allison Montano
Great food at a good price. I normally get take away from here. Love the green chicken curry! The decor is much to be desired hence we don't normally eat there. But definitely cheap and cheerful and worth try. Its a regular take away venue for us.
Teomelvin39
Food: The lemongrass-infused chicken satay and the accompanying sauce was great. It was well cooked and tender. Spring roll was crunchy and felt a little over fried. Roti was a little cold.<br/>Heard so much about the fried rice, I found the taste was monotonous; hit the top palate and lacked finish. Also, there were balls of white rice not well combined. Lamb curry was very Malaysian style, which was a disappointment in a thai place. A good pad thai could be determined by the crunch of the bean sprout, accompanying condiment such as lime and should be a little wet. These were not seen. <br/><br/>Service: had a great service from a lady with spec named Han. She was very attentive to her surrounding and seems to be able to mind read my thoughts.
Iceman
Yes, the food is undeniably good, but...the question still remains is it firstly worth the wait, the inept service and the intolerable noise levels and not to mention the 20th century CASH ONLY policy? Well, I'll let my dining brethren be the judge of that...and to add insult to injury there's a noticeable absence of ice (very uncivilised)
Cause
Visited this place last week. The tom yum and phad Thai was good. I did enjoy it very much. Nothing much to complain. I will definitely come back with the missus.
Alex Tee
A staple in my dietary intake. Cheap, delicious and within walking distance, what else could I ever need? <br/><br/>Love the pad Thai, Tom yum, Tom kha, and chicken fried rice. And it'd be rude to not have some Victoria's butterflies and satay sticks once in a while, right? <br/><br/>Don't go here for the glamorous, elegant setting, garden chairs out the front, not that I'm complaining, I'm happy to get a seat and eat my heart out! <br/><br/>Really affordable, polite wait staff, and great portion sizes. If you haven't already you must go down and try!
Foodie McFoodie
Thalia Thai is a Melbourne institution. Great food, great atmosphere and friendly and courteous staff. If you haven't tried it, put it on your to do list. You won't be disappointed. Highly recommended.
Mellie
<br/>I was excited to try this restaurant but was greatly disappointed. The hygiene of this place is questionable, we not only had hair in our rice but bugs too (looked like fleas) ... You could "maybe" excuse a bug but we had many! DEFINITELY will not be going back to Thalia Thai!!!
James Fabian Farelli
At least once (if not twice+) a month worthy! I have been coming here for YEARS. PROUD REGULAR! :-D easy to order menu, basic yet efficient options... and portion sizes! Easy as ready, set, go.. ENJOY!
Emily
best chicken fried rice<br/>the pork butterflies and the satay chicken skewers are incredible<br/>very reasonably priced <br/>a group of 8 of us went and it was about $20 each person<br/>definitely recommend
Slimer
I agree with some of the reviews regarding the wait time for takeaway. I don't care if it takes an hour (especially if it's busy) just be honest. That little issue aside they serve great thai food from curries to pad thai. If you're eating in, ask to sit upstairs as it's much nicer. One last tip....grab a slice of watermelon on the way out!
Wonderfull
Everything I've tasted out of this kitchen has been delicious, but my favourite so far has probably been the peanut curry. The restaurant is a takeaway staple for locals, and I've heard friends talk about it many times over the years. After I first ate there recently, I came back exactly one week later. Eating in, you will most likely over-order, however you can ask for containers to take home the leftovers. You can BYO with cheap corkage, and big tables upstairs makes this a great place to come with a group.

It's my go to local Thai, I've tried most of the surrounding Thai restaurants on lygon and Thaila has my vote.. They are consistent with the meals flavour and generous servings, plus in-expensive.. It has its flaws like many restaurants alike but from my experience I've never been let down.. Oh except once, I order a few take away meals with one being tom yum soup, by the time I got home I realised the soup lid wasn't on correctly and had spilt all through the bag, I called up to let them know and with out any issue they remembered me and offered to make a new one or to leave me a credit for next time.. This is awesome customer service.. Maybe two weeks after I went to get my tom yum credit, they still had it on file it was no worries! 👍🏼
Steven Shipley
Great Thai place located close to the CBD. Portions are massive and the food is very well priced for what you get. I ordered the Pad Thai and can easily say I couldn't eat another bite after that. Food has a very authentic feel to it and I love how busy and loud the restaraunt is.
Jeff
The people who think this place is da beez neez have no idea about Thai food! <br/>The smell was enough to make me puke and drive home but I was hungry so I forced it down. Tasted like my mummas meat loaf which ain't pretty (sorry mumma!) <br/>As bad as they were, still a mean rotti bread, I could eat them like breakfast<br/>2 stars
Simon
If you want good quality cheap fresh food this is a great place. The decor and servers are a little downplayed but you can rely on the food. We recommend the yellow tofu curry the red fish curry and the beast peanut curry. All are packed with vegetables. Warning: the serving are fairly large so don't over order
Ashleigh Dougherty
My go-to Thai food if I am not too lazy to dine in. The portions are big and the price is low for the amount of food you get. The food is fresh and very well prepared. Def my fav Thai in Melbs.
Leesh
Serious thai food I reckon. Which also means it's spicy! If you're not accustomed to eating spicy foods I would recommend requesting less chilli in your meal. Though my last visit to Thailand was when I was a kid, having grown up in Singapore I find the food here to taste very authentic, as far as asian flavours go. You get good portions and real food. My favourite thai food in melbourne.
Michael
We were walking along Lygon street on a barmy night looking for a good place to have dinner. This place was packed and had a bit of a buzz about it, so why not? Ordered some standard Thai fare (red curry and a beef stir fry) and the first thing that struck me was the enormous serving sizes. They certainly don't skimp here. The food itself was top notch and I would definitely consider it one of the better Thai joint in the area.
Moon-unit No.1
I agree with some of the other users on here in regards to take away orders. <br/>When they are busy they will tell you the takeaway will be ready in 10-15min when it really takes anywhere up to an hour.<br/>If it is going to be a long wait they should just tell the customer this so they can arrive at the appropriate time to pick up their food. People are going to be less annoyed at being told their food will not be ready for 45mins than alternatively having to sit around the restaurant for half an hour waiting for their food!
Redcat
A very low key, loud and busy place. BUT the food is yum, and it's very well priced! Just don't expect incredible service or a lovely set up, though. What you do get is honest, authentic food that tastes great.
Aydin
Second time in a row and already loving it. Best chicken satay in north. Reasonable price.
Elaine
My friend suggested we try this place out and I had high expectations of it.. Surely the opposite, ordered the pad Thai and it just lacked the flavour and it tasted burnt, we also got the green curry and my first thought was where was the curry? We where pretty much scraping to get it, u go to other places and the bowel is full.. Sorry but this was all a let down, won't be returning
Foodjunkie
Ordered the chicken stir fry with peanut sauce and cashew nut and the Thai green curry. <br/>The chicken stir fry was quite chunky, hardly any cashew nuts but the sauce was great! <br/>Thai green curry was so yummmmmmmm!! Will be back just to order it again! Delicious! Great for your Friday night take out!
Jennifersilverii
Love is the food! The egg noodles are my favourite. In the winter I get take away as I'm not a big fan of sharing the large tables upstairs but in the summer nights love sitting outside. Food always tastes fresh and good size positions.
Lelee
Rang and placed an order at 7pm was told it would be 30minutes until it would be ready to be picked up.. It's now 8:10pm and still no food. Keeping people waiting for over an hour when you say 30 mins isn't good enough!
Notsopassive
Locals get this place, you 'others' don't.. If you understand what this place is about, you'll enjoy it. I ate their with 7 friend, for around $100, that's awesome. Staff ain't ganna baby you, because it's too bloody busy. If you're down to earth about a good portion of food that's tasty, and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg, this is the place. Otherwise go over the road and get a cheese pizza for $25 and convince yourself it's 'amazing' (in a dumb preppy accent).
Paul Chamberlain
Have been coming here for 15 years and it never disappoints. Good size serves and great prices. The fried rice is beautiful, as are the stir fries; lots of fresh veggies! Don't be put off by the decore, which has actually improved a little, give it a try, you'll love it!
Pavloopi
Not worth a cent. First time going to this restaurant after hearing many good things about it from friends. The menu had limited options after expecting a broad range of different food options. We ordered a 'pad thai' and a 'thai salad'. The pad thai came out looking and tasting like what i would expect it to after i had already digested it. The thai salad came out looking like a greek salad(cucumber, tomato and onion).... very disappointing and will never return. How this place always looks busy baffles my mind. This is definitely nothing like traditional thai food.
Sjdm
Wouldn't bother.... Had been told by friends that this place was good "bang for buck". I feel they could not have been more wrong, went with my girlfriend expecting to have a lovely dinner and ordered a fair amount of food as we were excited. The service first of all was some of the rudest I have encountered, the Lady didn't smile once and wouldn't even acknowledge you when you asked for assistance. We thought at first thats ok, the food probably speaks for itself, and the place was reasonably busy for a Sunday so we had high hopes. Our first dish was chicken satay skewers and just plainly met the standard for an average entree. After that it was all downhill, continually being spoilt with the below bad service the waitress brought out the next dishes, a tasteless lamb curry and a chicken curry that was 99% vegetables 0% percent flavour and 1% chicken. To end the night on a high note we paid the bill and got out of there, leaving the restaurant was the best part of the evening, a sigh of relief escaped my girlfriends mouth, opening her mouth just long enough to quickly slip in some extra chewing gum hoping to mask the dishes flavours.
Mpriestyeski
Fresh food, great price. All vegetables are always very fresh, sauces very tasty, amazing bang for buck! Should be open later though
The Soop Nazi
Good food, disgraceful service. Shocking.
T93
Terrible food, terrible service.<br/>We waited for 2 hours without being given water, and then when the food finally came it wasn't what we had ordered. Not impressed, never going back

Revolting - Run for your lives !. I really wanted to go to this kinda hipster joint in East Brunswick but what an amazing disappointment. Disappointed and shocked that in Melbourne today a Thai restaurant can survive serving such terrible food. <br/><br/>Ordered satay sticks which were sick looking, tough and covered in what looked like you know what! Worse still, they had not been cooked on a grill of any description but were all deep fried - yep, just like KFC does. I couldn't eat most of them.<br/><br/>I then had Pad Thai. Now, I have had this many times previously and never have I not enjoyed it till I saw what Thaila Thai put in front of me.<br/><br/>Without lots of details, it looked grey, smelt revolting and tasted absolutely terrible - kinda sickening. I didn't eat much and left to go home and have a sandwich.<br/><br/>Go to this place at your own risk. I'm so glad I didn't go with my partner or friends, how embarrassing it would have been.
The Food Society
I really enjoyed the stir fry – for $14 out came a huge plate of moreish slices of beef, zucchini, broccoli stalks, cabbage, celery and carrot. Not feeling like anything spicy that day, we opted for the oyster sauce, which provided a great sweet & sour, earthy coating to the crispness of the vegetables.
The City Lane
Walk into Thaila Thai and you’re greeted by a fast paced venue with Thai dishes being whipped up in the kitchen at a frenzied pace. The place is very popular offering food that straddles the line between authentic and modified for western tastes.
Shanton
This is Thai stir fry heaven. It's where they make their mark and their money - with inter-changeable ingredients and sauces, depending on what you like. Every style of stir fry can be cooked with every protein. It's also a cheap eat and a haven for students and those on a budget. So, don't expect fine dining or even high quality cafe, this is more cafeteria than cafe. It's a noisy eatery and sound insulation is not good, coupled with the bad general insulation and the kitchen being in the same space, you have a pretty noisy place. If you don't like that sort of atmosphere, you are going to find this place incredibly frustrating but otherwise, pull up a chair somewhere for a basic generic Thai meal. Nothing special but it's cheap!
Hide And Seek
It’s frustrating, frantic and flipping great value. You don’t come here for the mood lighting and cosy booths. Business dinner? Nup. Catch-up with a long-lost Facebook friend? Forget it. (Unless you really don’t want to hear what they’ve been doing since school.)
Kristine Nga
Take-away or dine in, good quality cheap thai food. This totally hits the spot and it’s reasonably cheap as well…gotta love the Aussies and their obsession with Thai food. It’s been doing me wonders in the last 4 mo. I always judge a place by their pad thai and this is a pretty good one. Come on, if you mess up pad thai…can you make anything else right? No. Give it a go, see how you feel.
Sweet And Sour Fork
... it was bursting with flavour from the wok, and the portion was unbelievably enormous, chock-full of a variety of fresh crunchy vegetables, and smoky chicken.

The food was enjoyable, the service pleasant, the space relaxed. They were generous with the vegetables and I could leave feeling healthy, despite being full on carbs and coconut milk.

Thaila Thai has been around for ages and it fits into the Cheap & Cheery category

Out of the hundreds Thai restaurants in Carlton -the home of Thai restaurants it seemed to be- we picked to go to Thaila Thai due to its popularity...

There is a real buzz at Thaila Thai as it is always so full, full of unpretentious people enjoying the surroundings, the company of their good friends, and simple, cheap, tasty foo

Thaila Thai is located on Lygon Street, but not in the Carlton end as I found out after searching previously and not finding it. It is instead located way down the other end of Lygon Street in East Brunswick. I was intending to go to another restaurant bu

Thaila Thai's been one of my favourites for going on a decade now, back when I used to live around the corner from it. Massive serves of delicious curries and stir fries, with vegetables on the crunchy side of

Good food but way too long. The food was good but 45 minute wait for pad thai after first meal came after 15 minutes.

"Thai" Travesty Tonight. Have always eaten here and been happy in the past. Admittedly, not huge Thai eaters, but tonight took a group of friends who know good Thai. <br/><br/>Our night began by waiting to be seated for 40mins even though we had a booking a (in hindsight this should have been our ‘abort mission’ sign). Actually, we were not waiting for a table to be free, we were waiting for the ONE waitress to wipe the table down. Meanwhile, she seated 5 other groups who were booked after us. We booked for 10 – we got 9 and a baby seat which she refused to move and told us to “leave it there”. <br/><br/>Finally seated, and watching her take orders in drabbles from all of the other patrons who were booked AFTER us - we finally had our order taken - 40 mins after being seated. We had considered calling the take-away line and seeing if we could get our order cooked as takeaway faster than waiting for her - she seemed intent on not serving anyone she had seated until they had waited at least 1⁄2 an hour. <br/><br/>By now, all starving to DEATH, we got some glasses -- JUST glasses, filled with glorious clear air... We helped ourselves to serviettes and cutlery. Our food came out in drabbles, bit by tedious bit.. We were even brought things that we did not order; we asked the waitress, “what is this” . Well of course its “your food”, what a stupid bloody query. Everyone was finally served over a course of 35mins, having been sitting there for 2 hours after our booking time. Sorry scrap that, we were served about 70% of the order, with mains missing.... 4 in fact.<br/><br/>In the end, we asked her to cancel the missing dishes. Having been there for 2.5hrs for "best in town thai" at a "cheap price" we were instead met with a rude, hostile waitress who didn't even care to get our order out at the same time and THEN was trying to convince us that the dish that we were presented with was what we had ordered. Sorry, but a vegie dish should not come out with chicken, and then have the waitress look at her ticket and say “no this is vegies”. God forbid you have an allergy.<br/>We are all very hangry and $170 lighter in our pockets. <br/><br/>Long story short – this is NOT good thai. On a positive, you could survive on the entrees, so if you are insistent that you have to try this place, just order 4 entrees – should only take 1.5hr to arrive at your table – IF it arrives.<br/><br/>Not. Happy. Jan.

Always classic. Thaila Thai is a dietary staple. It's been fantastic for as long as I can remember. Well-priced, consistently great food served with an honest smile. Viva Thaila Thai!

Excellent!. Have been here many times and am never disappointed. Fresh, delicious. Owner has a lovely smile and an excellent sense of humor - very friendly. Tonight they were giving out free mangos to customers - nice touch!

Hit and miss. Generally, I do enjoy the food from Thaila Thai, however it can be really hit and miss.

Not quite Thai.. This restaurant is now owned by Vietnamese with surly Vietnamese students serving. With all due respect they may be able to cook Thai food, however my experience proved otherwise. For their benefit I hope it changes for the better.

Ordered takeway at 8.25, half our meal was ready at 8.50 the other half at 9.05. The first half of the meal was cold and when I alerted the cashier she claimed she didn't know what I was talking about. One of the cooks kindly assisted and within minutes, the first batch was hot but whilst waiting the other going cold.food. We were told the wait would be only 15 minutes. Wait or not the quality and flavour, not worth it.
Gk
What a disappointment !!. Came here Friday night with a friend to eat. As we walked in we were rushed to the table, and told that we had to quickly make an order as they were about to close. The girl that served us didn't even give us a chance to look at the menu, as she was standing waiting for us to hurry up and order !! After having the food out for 10mins the waitress rudely took the food away from us, and gave us the bill! Mind you there were a couple of tables still in the restaurant. Can't believe how rude and disgusting the service was. Has ruined my whole night. Mind you the food isn't anything special !! Will never ever go back and don't recommend this to anyone. Disgusted.

Very disappointing. Ordered take away over the phone on Saturday night. Waited for ages to pay when picking up food, girl couldn't find our order, didn't know how long it would be etc. didn't mind any of this as the girl looked stressed and the place was busy. My issue was the food. I had a stir fry beef and plain rice. All of the food was stone cold, the beef was RAW, the veg was undercooked to say the least and the pieces of veg were so roughly chopped I needed knife and fork to get through the bits of cabbage bigger than the palm of my hand. All wasn't lost though, I ended up using the "ingredients" to cook my own meal, sort of defeats the purpose of take away?!
