da Peppe is an amazing family owned and run authentic Italian restaurant. After travelling throughout Italy I can say that this little restaurant is the most replicate little slice of Italy that you could find in Melbourne. The hospitality and kindness of the staff is second to none.
Meals are priced well, particularly when the food is the best you can get, with menu options flexible that also cater for people with intolerance and or allergies.
All-round an amazing place to spend an afternoon or evening. After recently moving to the area I can definitely say that this place will be my new regular.
We had lunch here and I have to say the food did not disappoint. The grilled salmon, risotto, chicken parmigiana were cooked to perfection and extremely tasty. Highly recommend. Giovanni the waiter is the perfect touch to this wonderful relaxed restaurant. We will be back
Such a warm, homely atmosphere. This is the second time my partner and I have been here and we would highly recommend it to anyone wanting delicious Italian cuisine.
Best Italian I’ve found in Melbourne! I travel to Melbourne frequently with a group of workmates and we are always looking for a good feed. Da Peppes on Lygon st is the best out there when it comes to customer service, food quality and of course, a nice glass of wine. My workmates and I returned 3 times within the 2 weeks of finding this restaurant.
Signori e signore, finally a really and truly Italian restaurant!!!! The good food and the typical atmosphere of trattoria make this place a must to do in Melbourne!!! Absolutely fantastic, especially the pasta fagioli e cozze!!
Authentic delicious Italian food with the most amazing host!!! This is Lygon at it’s best! Homemade pasta and that lasagne... we are local and we will now be locals
We had the best dinner experience tonight. I can’t wait to come back! Thank you!!

Ive been here 4 times and I reckon De Peppe is the most underrated restaurant on lygon street. The food is absolulty fantastic, fresh and delicious but the service is second to none. I can't rate this restaurant anymore highly. I strongly recommended and hope this review encourages others to see for themselves. 10/10
I had my birthday dinner here last night and i must say the food was delicious and cooked to perfection. The service was very friendly and prompt. We will be back
Love this place. My favourite Italian restaurant.
Their genuine love and passion is manifested in their dishes which are mouth watering, the taste of Italy is at da Peppe.

we were dining across the road at 400 gradi a few nights before coming to da peppe, staring through the window at the cosy looking trattoria. unsatisfied pizza cravings led us to da peppe and it was a solid choice. the service was wholesome and the atmosphere warm and welcoming (especially from the witty and amusing FOH head - any waiter who sits down to chat with their customers provides service for the love of it). large servings, toasty and delicious pizza. well enjoyed!
Without question the best Italian I have ever had in Australia. We had the Bruschetta first. . . Was quality, not quantity, the bread was beautifully doughy and the tomatoes were delicious. Phil had the tortelloni, I had the marinara. The homemade pasta was amazing. The sauces were to die for. The waiter was entertaining and passionate. If we lived in Melbourne we’d come here all the time. Well done!
Da Peppe is deserving of way more love and a higher ranking honestly...it kinda makes me mad.
Don’t know why people flock to its other Italian neighbouring restaurants when you’ve got seriously authentic Italian right here. The tortolloni is out of this world. Like nothing I’ve ever had from anywhere. Really flavourful, filling and super comforting.
I’ve also had their lasagne before and it arrives in a bubbling little pot, with oozing bechamel. The meat sauce is so rich, you can tell it’s been slow cooked to perfection. I’ve also had the potato pizza before and it’s heaven, the potato is grated generously all over and cooked beautiful. My boyfriend who is hard to please with Italian food LOVES it too.
Do yourself a favour. Order the tortolloni. You’ll be dreaming about it for days after.
Authentic bustling little Italian place, with a friendly and warm welcome. The pizza was to die for, and reminded me of the best pizza I had in Italy which I still dream about. The owner was lovely and accommodating, I would definitely return!
A friend was staying at a hotel in Brunswick, so we went for a walk down Lygon Street to find a place to eat.
The friendly owner invited us straight away (with his amazing Queens-like accent).
We ordered a Lasagna and Spaghetti and I got a glass of rosé.
My friend really liked his Lasagna.
My Pasta was delicious, but overcooked, hence my lower score. I enjoyed the flavour of the curry and I put quite a bit of chilli on it. But, to me, pasta should be al dente and this one was very soft and mushy.
Overall, we loved the service and the atmosphere, and we really enjoyed the food.
I’d happily go back to try something else.
Live just up the road and thought we’d try Da Peppe for family birthday. We absolutely loved it. Great feel, great food and great service. Will definitely go again!
Fantastic meal, fresh pasta made in the restaurant sooo delish! Pizza was amazing and so were the prawns! Fantastic friendly service can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu! =)
I have been here twice and cannot speak more highly of the place. The service is always exceptional - attentive, friendly and helpful. It seems to be almost from another era, which I mean in the best possible way.
Most of the pasta is home made (if you are curious which is which, ask them and they will gladly share this with you) and the sauces and accompaniments are of the highest possible standard for the price point. I have enjoyed the pizza here before, but I will continue to return for the pasta. The wine has always been great too. With a great selection of Italian varieties at a reasonable price. I have thoroughly enjoyed both the Nero d'Avola and Chianti on offer.
Being a vego and having been raised in the Italian culture, I can be pretty particular with this stuff but I have always been impressed with both the variety on their menu as well as the obvious attention to detail. A lot of the dishes served are things we have only eaten out of our grandmothers' garages or basements and not typically found in restaurants, which I think is what makes this place so special. Grazie mille e alla prossima.
Was really nice food, tasty, good prices, nice staff, atmosphere was lovely, couldn't get over the amazing art work , felt lik I was sitting in Italy. Keep up the good food and service.
Amazing!!! If I could give it more stars I would. Quality of food 20/10. Very reasonably priced and the staff are super friendly. I had the seafood risotto polished it so quickly it was that good! Love this place and will continue to go. Thank you Da Peppe :)
Excellent meal enjoyed on Mothers Day. Very friendly service headed by the owner Giovanni, fresh pasta with good portion sizes. Wide range of dishes to choose from which should keep everyone happy. My family has an Italian background so we are used to high quality Italian food. We were not disappointed by the range and quality of our chosen meals.
BEST CARBONARA IVE EVER HAD! Didn't think I'd find a new fav Italian place, now I have. For all the people that rely solely on zomato reviews to choose a restaurant.
We absolutely loved this place. It reminded us of all the little Italian places that we crossed when we were in Italy last year. Very authentic. It's the kind of normal place you'd find in Italy, which makes it ideal compared to the high class 400 Gradi across the road (which is also delicious). Definitely recommend everyone to give it a go. It's BYO too :) and the people were so lovely and helpful.
Went again to this great local restaurant. The food was amazing. 5 of us sat outside and absolutely loved the food. The mussels were fantastic and the pasta one of the best I have eaten. The service was excellent and the waiters lovely. The owner came out and was super friendly. Cannot understand the negative review below. Eat Italian a lot and again loved the food and the place. Will keep going back.
Had been meaning to try out this new Italian restaurant on the busy restaurant strip of Lygon street east Brunswick since it opened, finally had the opportunity late last night. Wow!!! Very impressed!!! The pasta was amazing, authentic and home made. The atmosphere is very Italian and feels like you could be somewhere in Italy. Giovanni was an amazing host made us feel very welcome. We eat out often and will definitely be going back to this gem.
Went there last night and loved it. Really lovely atmosphere, loved the decor and Giovanni, our host was good fun. Great personality and really knew his stuff. The pasta was awesome, so authentically home made. Really tasty sauces as well. Definitely going back. Could easily become regulars seeing we're just around the corner. Was great to see it busy late on a Sunday night too.
This small restaurant was pumping the night we went and yet the food and service were both great. Perfectly cooked pasta with great authentic sauces. It is a small restaurant and in a very busy strip of Lygon Street, so may be worth booking. We will be going back again and again. At the moment is BYO with no corkage fee but that may change. High on a list of favourites
Love! New authentic Italian restaurant near my place I couldn't have asked for more. Went in and tried 3 different pastas and the quality was definitely hand made in store ;)
I rarely review a place whether it be positive or negative... but having just returned from a trip to Europe which included 2 weeks driving around Sicily, it made me reminisce about it - authentic & delicious!
The pastas & the grilled whole snapper were standout in particular.
We went there this evening for the first time and found both the service and the food really good. I had gnocchi and it is very very hard to find gnocchi that compares to the home made version but mine was pretty good. I will certainly be going back there.
Lovely place. Enjoyable evening. Food was delicious and price was perfect. Will definitely be back and I think its so much more authentic then the places around the area. I would highly recommned
Food was quite authentic, especially the carbonara and the mixed, fried seafood dish. Definitely worth a visit, and i will be back soon to try some other dishes too
Absolutely fantastic! The pasta is the best i have ever had and i just got back from Italy haha. Authentic. Simple. Fresh. So happy is opened right near me ;)
Just like mumma used to make!
As a someone with an Italian background, I usually feel disappointed after going out for Italian food because it's never as good as what I grew up with. Not anymore! I finally found a place that makes REAL Italian cooking - homemade pasta, recipes that aren't common in Australia and, lets face it, food my parents forced me to eat as a kid but I now appreciate and miss! The food at Da Peppe is sensational! The pasta is all homemade. We had the gnocchi napoli- melt in your mouth- and the bean soup which is a rare tasty AND healthy meal! Service is great too - Giovanni will greeted us at the door and made us feel like a part of his family instantly. Da Peppe will definitely be on my "go back to always" list.
