Review Thai On Street - Brunswick East

liz street
Thai on Street, a treasure on Lygon, Brunswick. The food was tasty, fresh and beautifully presented. The service was excellent. The waiter was attentive, friendly and professional. I also notice dogs were allowed there too. Fantastic to see cafes/restaurants allowing this. In Europe and England it is very common to see dogs in pubs and restaurant, as always been. Yet here in Australia the rules are pathetically ridiculous in this sense.

Stopped by for dinner on the way back from Pascoe Vale. The red curry was flavoursome and quite generously portioned. It could have done with a bit more veggies as there were only few slithers of capsicum and carrots. The signature pad thai was nice, i liked the use of glass noodles instead of the standard rice noodles. Overall we liked the dinner here and would come back when in the area.

Thai on Street is a great eatery with delicious food at reasonable prices. We have eaten here lots of times and the quality never wavers. Parking is a bit of a problem around here. The money bags are a great entree and I've never seen it anywhere else. The service is good and fast and the toilets are clean.

Ordered delivery 3 times and each time it has tasted amazing! If I wanted to be picky I’d remove half a star for presentation (it’s delivery, there’s only so much they can make it look pretty in a plastic takeaway container) but they get it back for making carrots, the worst of the vegetables, taste good.

Great food and fast service. Always enjoy meeting friends here for dinner. Quality is very consistent. Would recommend.

Best Thai in Melbourne, eat there/take away all the time, can't recommend it enough. The food is great and the crew are lovely
Satvinder Singh
The most genuine Thai food you can have at the most amazing prices, definitely must eat!
Mathew James
Great tasty food at quite reasonable prices as well as generous portions . However, the service was horrible and staff was quite mean and grumpy. Took time to get a bottle of water and staff gave us a nasty look when we asked the second time. At the end of the meal, rather than asking us whether we wanted desserts or anything else, just placed the bill on our table and walked away (it was far from closing time btw). If you want good Thai food but don't care about the service, this place is it!
Omnomnic
Seriously underwhelming food and service. They are busy and there was only one waitress for a full restaurant, taking orders, bussing food, clearing tables etc. I felt so bad for her. It took us more than 20 mins to order. If the food was good, I'd go again on a quieter night. But with so many other fantastic Thai options nearby, I am going elsewhere.

Good service. Great food. I had the Pad Met Muamang . Chicken stir fried with dry chili and cashews. The meat was nice and fresh and the flavors were great.
I’d come back here for sure.
My friend had the thom yum soup and it was delicious
Whalesfoodadventure
Chicken pad thai is delicous. Red curry (vegetarian) is real tasty and creamy. However the service is abit slow to collect our order and for the food to come out.

This place is my favourite Thai restaurant. Love their pad gradpow seafood sizzling dish. Can’t even find a place that has a nice coconut rice like this one. Worth the drive. A must try

Best thai food in Melbourne. Would have given it 5 stars but for the consistently rude wait staff. The yellow curry and garlic roti are amongst my favourite dishes ever
Kyah English
Best Pad Thai in Melbourne! No other Thai restaurant has come close to the amazing taste of the Pad Thai they cook up here. I always go for the prawn and It would be a 5 star rating for me but I feel 4 king prawns isn't enough for what you pay, add one or two more and you have the perfect dish. I have also tried their green curry and tom yum soup which are both amazing as well.

I was a little skeptical walking into this place, but I am so glad we chose to eat here. The food blew me away!!. We had jack fruit curry and a traditional green curry and it was YUM YUM YUM!! I can't wait to eat here again.
Elizabeth Laura Donald
This food is delicious! We try different things every time but our favourites are the pad Thai and the massaman curry. It’s made fresh on location and that is very evident in the taste. Highly recommend this place.

Alright food if in a pinch. Fairly fresh ingredients and decent flavour. Not as good as some other close by options but service is good and the place is clean
Two Sheds
We were impressed with this place. We started with one of the best curry puffs I’ve had in a Thai restaurant. Instead of being all pastry and small bits of bland filling like most are, these ones were crackers. Not large but all flavour with a wonderfully prepared filling. Good dishes kept on coming. There was a beautiful chicken satay with lovely flavour and superbly tender chicken. Terrific beef massaman, chicken bang gang and a red curry as well. Service was beautiful throughout. This is a very sound local Thai restaurant and I have no hesitation recommending it.
Vegetarian Food Lover
Delicious affordable thai food in Brunswick. We ordered pad Thai and green curry. The Pad Thai had the perfect amount of ingredients and flavours. The green curry was temperature hot and spicy hot as requested. Good variety of vegetarian/vegan choices on the menu. They don’t split bills unfortunately. I noticed inside the toilet, even though very clean, stored baby seats & restaurant chairs, which I thought was unusual & unhygienic. Service was friendly & polite.

This by far is the worst Thai restraunt ever!!!
I ordered the vegetarian Tom yum soup with extra tofu and wow it tasted like hot lemon juice that was so difficult to even swallow without cringing. When I asked the waitress very nicely if she could ask the chef if they could fix it somehow, she explained to me what a ton yum soup is suppose to taste like... (this is definitely not the first time I was having Tom yum soup) and I am not a person who would even complain at a restraunt if something is slightly wrong... but here it was majorly wrong. Anyways she refused to do anything about it, until she started being rude to the neighbouring table as well then the customer on that table complained about the service and also about how she was completely refusing to even listen to me... but at the end of it all she came back to say that she will take it back to the kitchen to replace it... and guess what it comes back being slightly sweeter and very watery... for sure I wasn’t going to send this back again but I did not eat it.... I must say there vegetable dumplings were really yummy though, do try those!

But so far 0.5/5 stars for this restraunt for the worst service i have ever experienced. I am never going back there again and this review will be up on my instagram shortly too.

I am a food blogger myself and that is the only photo I took of our table when we left the restraunt... highly disappointing experience.

Great food!!! I always go back! One of the best Thai restaurants in Melbourne! The staff are really friendly and the food is always fresh!!!

This is my new local Thai now, I've come back after a long time. The fried whole snapper is awesome. Girls are friendly and I love the chatter in the kitchen. Don't really need a slice of orange on every plate though.
Claude
Food was good but the waitress needs to focus on her customer service skills. She behaved as if she didn't have time for us, which was probably due to her being the only one looking after the front end.

Honestly, this place doesn’t get enough kudos — it’s the best Thai I’ve had in Melbourne. From the papaya salad, the chicken skewers to the stir fries. Nothing disappoints.

Just your standard Thai restaurant. When I feel like cheap, good, quick and no fuss I usually opt for Thai on st. However, after my recent visit not sure how I feel about the food and uncertain if I could confidently recommend it. Service is always very inconsistent. Some staff care, while others simply don’t want to be there. We got a staff that could not care less about service and the customers. Having to constantly ask for things, no smiles and just loads of attitude.

The venue is very small, tables are close and your eating elbow to elbow with strangers. I literally choked on the chili fumes from the customer next to me, when they received their sizzling stir fry.

The food is usually very consistent but on this occasion it missed the mark. We got vegetable spring rolls which were good and everything you would expect. Thai duck & vegetable red curry. There was very little duck, mainly just red curry sauce. The curry was separated and the coconut was curdled and the taste was average. The pad satay beef was good. The roti bread did not taste like it was made to order not fresh, dry and some sections was very charred. I usually order a additional serve to wipe the curry bowl clean but did not feel like extra roti or the curry.

My 3 key pointers
. Everyday of the week they offer something on the house. Already super cheap but you get a little freebie.
. Good service is not their forte
. Food was consistent however missed the mark. Will need to give it another go to confirm if they have gone down hill.

Really delicious, authentic Thai food :) The venue isn't too big too, making this little Lygon street gem a great place for a catchup.
The garlic roti bread is soft and chewy, I prefer this to crisp roti so definitely a winner for me!
The red duck curry isn't as pricey as other Thai restaurants and doesn't lack at all in flavour, I ended up drizzling the curry sauce over everything as I felt so bad wasting the leftovers 😅
All in all, a great local Thai restaurant :)
Paula James
I wouldnt recommend this place. First experience is the staff sitting in the restaurant at one of the tables eating, then followed by a different staff bringing a box of produce and sorting it out at the same table. I am a customer, I dont want to see this. The entree's were good and good quantity, the mains however were all poor, they are 80% sauce, 15% vegetable and about 5% meat. The quantity of meat per dish is far too low, they would need to at least double it, we were literally searching for a piece of chicken. The yellow curry had 2 pieces of potato which would amount to about half a single potato. We were sharing meals between four and ordered lots but obviously only two people got a small piece of potato. If your hungry go elsewhere or order double of everything.
Haley
Reasonably priced, large menu and friendly staff. Nothing too fancy, but a cute little cosy restaurant. We had the chicken satay skewers and larb gai to start, the chicken was delicious and tender and the sauce... MMM! The salad was also nice. We ordered some pad thai and another stir fry for main, both were tasty but I think both of the dishes could of been a little bit more flavorsome. Overall, an enjoyable evening.

Best Thai food I've had in Melbourne. Have returned many times and have had fantastic service and quality food each time. Have tried many different meals from the menu and they've all been great. Can't wait to go back to Thai on Street.

We visit this restaurant on regular basis. Food is consistently good. Service, on the other hand is very inconsistent. It gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights. Booking is essential on these days. They have recently increased their prices as well. Give it a go if you want to enjoy the Thai flavours just like in Bangkok.
Chris
Came for dinner and ordered the Roti bread with satay and the Pad Satay.
The Roti bread was fantastic and the satay sauce was great.
The only let down was the Pad Satay, a little watery and loaded with too many veggies and not enough chicken. The taste was average.
The price of dishes are really descent!

There is no option for rating 0. Otherwise I will choose 0 instead. We won't go back again. Terrible food, slow service on Monday night. The restaurant was so noisy. My friends and I can hardly talk to each other. Definitely will not recommend it to friends.
Rosie Raiti
Fresh clean fast , great food and a huge menu selection. Tried a little of everything, curry, stir fry and papaya salad 🥗. Roti bread . Great value .
Good Food Good Mood
Nothing to see here just your standard Thai restaurant sans fanfare but good flavours and tried and true favourites executed well. A creamy beef massamum and a sweet soy prawn pad see ew are always a winning combination with a side of coconut rice and flaky roti dipped in satay sauce. Nothing too fancy inside but a great little local if you are in Brunswick

Best Thai food restaurant I've had in Melbourne so far, been here many times and have tried many of their dishes. Apart from the clay pot chicken glass noodles being bad, everything else I've tried were amazing. The grilled seafood skewers were amazing, very very spicy though. My favourite is the chicken satay skewers, $8 for four skewers each the size of a tenderloin! Very tasty and good value for money. The stir fries are pretty expensive but portion is large and flavour is rich. Highly recommend it, definitely our go to restaurant when we're in mood for Thai food!
Ming Chan
Consistently good all round. Great authentic flavors and great menu selection. Definitely recommended. We tried the more unusual dishes eg. Salads and prawn entree and v they were excellent. Also one of the best roti - almost as good as Mamak.
One of my favourite Thai restaurants. Everything is always so flavoursome. Penang curry is my absolute favourite. Had a few of the noodle dishes and again all very good flavours. Reasonably quick service. Restaurants can be a bit noisy

Lovely friendly staff serving good quality Thai food- spring rolls were served piping hot and were delicious, the Tom Yum however seemed a bit light on flavour and lacking in depth and complexity- the chicken green curry was really tasting and I loved the sweetness of the pumpkin which was a lovely contrast to the curry's heat, highly recommend
KC
I dined there for the first time with friends and met such a friendly owner! The atmosphere was quite nice and relaxed, a lot of menu choices as well. We had curry puffs and prawn spring rolls as entrees. They came pretty quickly and they were super tasty! I have never seen spring rolls like theirs-a whole prawn was literally wrapped in the crispy pastry- how simple yet clever! I would have given them 5 for these, but with 4 Mains we ordered, they didn't quite shine through. The green curry was nice, but again extremely small portions of meat in the curry. Pad Thai was also a bit ordinary in flavour wise, and again not enough meat to cut through the rice noodles. I must say though, their price is REALLY good. Unlike the other Thai restaurant I recently went, the dishes here are around $14 mark and comes with generous amount of vegetables. The restaurant is BYO as well, so it's a good place to spend some time to unwind and enjoy the moment!

I've Thai food but finding a good Thai restaurant is difficult, been going to this place since they opened 5 years ago.... the staff are always surprised to realise I know the menu off by heart!!! THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! I've tried so many Thai restaurants but nothing compares to this place... the food is so consistent and you always get what you expect! Flavours are clean, produce is fresh and service is good!!!
Just take a walk past the kitchen and have a peek! Soooo clean! Love this place, by far one of my fav restaurants in Melbourne 🤗
GoonerChris
One of the best Thai restaurants in Melbourne . The flavours are great, fresh seafood . Nice crispy, fresh vegetables on offer as well. Service is great and the prices are good as well. Staff are very friendly with great service. Recommend you give this a go.

Best thai restaurant I've been to outside of Thailand. Everytime i feel like thai and zm going out for thai, this is the place I go to. I love their salads even though they are to spicy for me I still get them, the flavours are just so beautiful and fresh. Also try the coconut drink. Just like in Thailand, just like in Thailand!

Excellent with quality and imaginative choices.
Dishes like Prawn dumplings and Pad Thai with Softshell crab made it different to the usual Thai restaurants.
Prompt and courteous service plus well priced for both food and drinks. Recommended.

Stopped at this place for a quick meal the food was great the only problem was that our waitress needs to smile a little more.
Guys if your looking for great thai food this is worth a visit.

Best Thai restaurant I have been to. The food was excellent. It was extremely clean restaurant. The presentation of the food was excellent. It was well cooked and presented so well. The service was attentive and extremely polite. See u soon

Food here is always fantastic!
This is one of my regular places, it never disappoints. From their curries to their starters, everything is cooked perfectly and has yummy flavour.
Teomelvin39
Food: Duck and mushroom wanton has incredible flavoursome filling but mine was over fried and the skin with folds was too thick. Vegetable spring roll was great! Green curry lacked depth and who would put pumpkin in a curry? Was it fusion? It was a pale green curry served in a fancy China ware.
Pad thai lacked culinary skill. I believe the bean sprout of pad thai was cooked together instead of dished separately. Besides, the pad thai was infused with fish sauce that masked the flavour. Sadly, I did not taste anything other than the fish sauce.

Service: It was okay. Not very polite as I'd expect from a thai place. The door b**** was a diva.

Interestingly, we diners can only do no. 1 in the toilet, as stated on the door. And we would have to fork out credit card surcharge.

As I live done the road, I come here often for takeaway and dining in. The food is generally nice and good serving size however I often experience rude customer service here. Some of the waitresses look so unhappy being there.

I ventured out to the harsh North (spoken like a real south sider!) and decided to dine here with friends. All dishes were pretty tasty and some dishes had an interesting twist to the traditional versions.
Soft shell crab Pad Thai - would have loved the crab to be crunchier as it was pretty soft when it was mixed through he noodles, but the portion was generous.
Vegetarian Massaman curry - a little sweeter than what I am used to by a good variety of veggies in there.
Duck spring rolls - real duck and only duck in the filling. Small morsels of deliciousness!
Tom yum soup - I didn't try this but my dining companions made multiple comments about how nice it was.
Coconut rice and Roti with peanut sauce were both good and if a high standard.
Prices and service were pretty standard for a Thai restaurant.
Wouldn't say I was overly excited by this restaurant and would rush to return, but bonus points for adding some twists to the typical Thai dishes.

Good food, good price, just bad service. Loved the massaman curry, and the Tom Kha soup. Our family doesn't eat much spicy, but we still enjoyed the meal. About the service, we sat down and they didn't bring us any water or menus and just left us sitting there until we put our hands up. The waitress was rude and took away our unfinished dishes without asking. May come back again, but hoping better service next time.
Planetbob
Great food, nice service. Tiny bit squashy when it gets busy, but great meals and lots of options make up for that. Love the pad satay stir fry especially.
Moon-unit No.1
Fairly standard Thai cuisine. I have been to a lot of the Thai restaurants around this area of Lygon Street and I think this one is a tad above average. The majority of the dishes off the menu have been quite good, especially the duck curry.
Queen Of Food
Great service and delicious food! The chive dumplings are definitely worth ordering! Service is always super friendly and they tend to remember you as well which is a nice touch. Highly recommended

Definitely one of my favourite Thai restaurants. Whether you dine in or take away you will not be disappointed. I would love to try more of the menu but I can't bring myself to order anything other than the Pad See eiw. The veg spring rolls and money are great too and like with most Thai restaurants the food comes out very promptly. It's a huge pain in the a** that Thai on street do not deliver but if you feel like Thai it's worth traveling for.
EK
Thai on Street is my favourite thai restaurant in Melbourne. Everything here is delicious, I love the noodle dishes, the curry and the soups. The papaya salad is a stand out dish, with the staff always super friendly. I've been here so much they recognise me! Love it!

We came here for the first time for dinner last night. The food was fairly standard Thai fare. The Penang chicken curry, Pad Thai and Stir-fry were all very enjoyablr. The staff were friendly and overall it was an enjoyable experience.

I have been here a few times now and keep coming back. I will say, you need to have patience here. Every time I have been back I have had such a long wait for food after ordering. But, it's the best and closest Thai to my house, so I return.

Food ordered:
Pad see eew with chicken. Good fresh flavours in this dish. Nothing overpowering and well presented. Tofu stir fry which had a great sauce with it. Coconut rice, seriously some of the best I have had AND its unlimited. So just get it.

Ambience:
Crowded. The tables are so close and you will elbow or be elbowed. They like to pack everyone in and then keep them there waiting. The waitresses are usually quite nice and do there best to serve the many tables in this place.

Despite my average rating, I do think it's worth a shot if you live nearby.
David Bright
The food is delicous! I assume the ostentatiously bad english translations on the wall are satirical. Can't fault the flavours. The service was polite and friendly. The prices are equitable for the quality, by which I mean more expensive than surrounding venues but better food to match. I recommend to anyone in the area looking for fresh, vibrant thai flavours with some nice heat.

It was a Wednesday night and the service was slow I had the Tom yum which was fine but I also ordered phad Thai noodles which was that salty it could not be eaten

My boyfriend and I had drinks (one being alcoholic) an appetiser to share, two curries (one was a duck hotplate) and rice. $50 is very reasonable and both of us walked out very very full and very happy. Service was quick considering it was a saturday night and we hadn't booked. Waitresses were nice and kept our water glasses full.

It's my favourite Thai restaurant in Melbourne! I love the pork belly there. If you go there please order the coconut drink. Overall you should not miss this place :)

Rude staff. We did like the food here until I was abused on the phone by one of the staff. When I phoned to question an order we had made for a vegetarian curry that turned out to be a pork curry I didn't expect to be spoken to with such a rude tone. Told it was all my fault and bad luck. Only when I said I was going to report to management did they say sorry. But still wouldn't do anything about it. We will never return. So disappointed that one staff member can ruin a whole restaurant.

-----15 May, 2015-----

Never been spoken to on the phone so rudely when ringing about a wrong order!. My favourite Thai food ever! Go here all the time and can never fault anything we order. Flavours are spot on and lovely wait staff. Always busy for a reason. Please never change Thai on Street!
Mimi
Great food but really rude service, they want you to swallow the food, pay the bill and leave . They collected our dishes while we were still half way through and when we complain about that they left the plates with rolled eyes. Would never go back.

I’ve been spoiled by Japanese Izakaya restaurants in Vancouver and found this place average in comparison. All you lucky Vancouverites… do take advantage of the amazing food in the city because you can’t find it anywhere else! Sumiya Yakitori has a warm and fun atmosphere but the service was on the slow side and the food was good but not special.
Theycallmemaggie
Each dish brought past our table emitted a sensational aroma that teased our appetites and whipped our stomachs into a hunger frenzy.

Good food if you can enjoy amongst staff running around confused. Space is small an you may find yourself listening on conversation you wish you never heard. Loud small place but good food.

Delicious Thai. Glad we found this place.Been back a few times now. Expect to experience great food with an energetic vibe and atmosphere. Not for people who like silent dining or big spaces between tables. If small children get overstimulated by noise of loud chatter and a bustling environment then this is not for you. Considering the amount of people that handle the menus l would personally not allow for my children to play with or chew on these but bring own toy etc. The staff and service has been good, no problems, and may l suggest you point, on the menu, to the dish you want to order, just in case of language/ communication issues. Love all the meals we have tried and going back to try more, the menu is quite extensive so there is something there for everyone's tastes. Compliments to staff & chefs who are often under pressure to please everyone in such a fast paced restaurant.

Love This Place!. Great food, great flavours, small and comfortable, great people they get my wife and I back every couple weeks, great place.

Our local...cheap, tasty, always greeted with a smile.

Going downhill. My friend and I live a few streets away and have been going to Thai On Street since last year. It used to be amazing - absolutely amazing!! But in the last two months has been going downhill fast. I'm not sure if they have changed chefs or something? Now all the meals are gross. Everything is super wet and glugy with no flavouring at all. It's worse than crappy home cooked food. Really disappointing as this has always been a real favourite of ours to go to. Now we probably won't bother again.

Usually good but a miss this time. We are regulars and always order the crispy pork as part of our selection
tonight the pork tasted off..absolutely rotten and soggy skin. ..blugh

MY THAI EXPERIENCE!. I recently went with my family to eat dinner here and was told i had to leave under an hour because the table was booked ok i accepted we sat, ordered the food, the food came so quickly we couldn't believe it . I tried to ask the waitress for the antree's first but she disagreed because we couldn't stay long.we rushed eating and were looking at the clock every 5 min and at the end of it we took some home in a container that we had to pay 30 cents for...i mean what the? weird experience... fantastic food....odd staff....no more to say....
BeHa
Never again!. Having eaten here a number of times, I left bemused & unimpressed over the service & attitude last night. We ordered a red curry with duck, however when it arrived it was not the curry we ordered. I asked the waitress, who told me that they recommend this curry rather than the one we wanted. Ummm, fine, but if we'd wanted that one we'd have ordered it!
They had absolutely no idea & couldn't seem to understand that we just wanted the curry we'd ordered. "We can pick the pineapple out," she offered.
In the end we gave up. Last time we'll eat there.
Staff - either suggest a recommended curry at the time of ordering, or just give the customer what the hell they want, not what you *think* they should have.

Great Food!. Authentic Thai food, the restaurant is very small but the food is great. 8.5/10

Amazing!. Was told about this place a couple of years back and have been coming to here at least once every 6 weeks. Amazing food and full of flavour. Closest thai cuisine I've ever had outside of Thailand! though it's squishy, that's how it is in Thailand! A must.
Sl_pritchard
Not for families. First and last experience at this thai restaurant, went with family, clearly were not pleased with children making noise and mess (we ate at 5pm!), rude staff and flavourless food, won't be back!
Happy Kath
I do love this restaurant for a tasty & reasonably priced dinner out under $50 for two people.
It's a noisy yet intimate dining room & tables are limited but it's pretty much always full so we always try & book a table when we want to eat here.
My sister & I generally get 3 dishes & are full as bulls when we leave - we love the crispy pork with broccoli, love the sweet massaman curry & the flat rice noodles are so great! (Not at all salty & an excellent ratio of meat-veg-noodle)
The Kai pad med ma-maung (stir fry chicken breast with cashews & sweet onion & carrot garnished with spring onions) is one of the best dishes they serve. The service is very quick & the ladies who work there are very nice & friendly.
All of the food I've ever had here has been nice & fresh. Sometimes I'm a bit sensitive to some preservatives found in Asian sauces & I've never in 2 yrs eating here had a reaction to the food.

Horrible experience definitely don't like family's I agree Sally!!! I have been comin to thai on street for a while now and so has my family. I have a two year old active boy and find when he sits on the coach he is less desraptive. Lately every time we go in even though not busy all the tables are reserve even on a Tuesday night and even after leaving there tables are never all taken up. So anyway waitress tells us if we want a set on the coach we have to reserve so we did today. When we got in there we were directed yet again to the middle and as kinda as possible I advised we had reserved a table on the coach. Reluctantly she said we could sit there and ten minutes later I asked her if we could order after watching her take an order from the table beside us. She advise me she does not take orders and that's when I couldn't hold it in. I asked her why she had to be so nasty and that I just watched her take an order from a table right near us. Her manager came out and even after explaining everything she sided with her waitress and we walked out. On a previous occasion we ordered a cashew chicken for my son it came out as prawn we called her over and told her that we had ordered chicken not prawn. So rudely she insisted that no we ordered prawn my son does not eat prawn I definitely ordered chicken. She continued to interrogate us even turning around and askin my ex husband she said prawn didn't she. Still we went back as We have been goin there since the day they opened beautiful food and never had an issue. Now this would be the last place I would go to after we left we came down to thai city. The service was amazin the waitress even had a chat with my boy and brought him out some tiny spring rolls just for him. I am a clean purson I clean up after him and he never make a massive mess and they know this I don't know why she turned so nasty. :(

Good food but packed in a bad way. The good: food is really nice, cheap, portions are very generous, waitresses are very friendly

The bad:

The layout: if you want to imagine what it’s like Thai on Street, imagine a sardine can. It’s one of those restaurants where they’re running out of space, so have two tables basically pushed flush together. We got there at around 7 pm (Monday) when it wasn’t extremely busy and it was really awkward, because it felt like we were pretty much sitting with the people at the “next” table. This was particularly bad as I was on a date and felt I couldn’t really talk about half the things I wanted to talk about because the co-diners would hear everything we were saying. It was pretty uncomfortable.

On the flipside, after about a half an hour, the restaurant became so extremely busy that we couldn’t hear the people sitting right next to us anymore.

Also, although the waitress was friendly, she was definitely run off her feet, and it showed.

Bottom line:
Either get takeaway or if you do get there and value personal space, insist upon getting one of the few tables they have that are more isolated.
Thaionstreet Restaurant
Re: Sally. Upon reading a review by Sally, left on Saturday about Thai on street, I am genuinely upset about the falsely portrayed experience. A five person table that was already reserved was made available for the couple and baby, as they were not happy with a two seat table. even though the restaurant was fully booked and busy as usual on a Friday night. Thai people and restaurants are indeed very friendly and clean, and maintaining all health and safety standards is a must. The idea of the baby, chewing and playing with a well used menu, was not clean or healthy for the baby, so it was taken away. I am sorry if you found the experience not satisfactory, but Thai on street try in every way to fit the needs of it's customers.

Booked a table at 8pm on Saturday night based on good review. Waited for 10 minutes for a table. Not bad actually consider how pack the place was. Be really really careful if you can't stand noisy restaurant. My wife needs to take medicine while waiting inside as the noise level was horrendous. Even my 4 year old daughter said she needs to go out. The feeling was like being hit with bullet constantly into my brain. Shocking !! Luckily we got a tablet outside eventually.

Service was friendly and efficient.

Menu choice was great and quite different to your normal thai restaurant with a bit more variety. We ordered Green curry duck, Pineapple fried rice , pad thai chicken , roti plus roti with ice cream for desert. Everything was great except pad thai which was a bit lack of taste. Green curry was better than Ying Thai 2. Fried rice was similar to Thai cafe and roti was great while having together with satay source. Desert was great too with roti being made differently.

Overall great food with reasonably cheap price as we were really sceptical when we saw the place was full of Angmo which was always a good indication on the quality and favour of the food (Asian ) but it turned out to be quite good. Only thing is that we won't come back for dinner for sure as no one including my 4 year old wanted to be hit by noise bullets again. However, we will try on lunch time only ( Friday to Sunday only )

Food was okay (pad Thai good, beef was tough in the larb). Service not great. We went with our 8mo bub and were shown to a table with two seats. When we asked them for another chair so we could have somewhere for bub to sit (we'd brought our own fold-up booster so didn't even need to ask them for a highchair), they said 'no, we cannot accommodate the baby'. What the?!? Eventually they gave us a big enough table, and we sat down to eat. Bub was a little restless after our food arrived, so we took a menu (hard cardboard, colourful) to keep her entertained so she wouldn't cry and be a nuisance to other diners. They came and took this away, saying they didn't want bub to make it dirty.

Sorry but definitely not family-friendly. A shame as Thai restaurants in general are known for their friendliness, and this has been true for every other Thai place I've been to (Ying Thai, Lanna Thai etc!)

Wow- So good, so Cheap. What a great start to 2014, this place is a little gem. The food is fantastic all round from entries to curries and hot plates. Where to begin, well the entry grilled calamari was amazing and so was the duck hotplate and the masamum chicken curry was also a solid performer. Very clean, good service and nice set up. The venue is a little small so booking on busier nights would be recommended, it was very busy when I was there. I would highly recommend and I will definitely return, there is an extensive menu including a street menu which I'll try next time.

Note: As for reviewer Rob maybe you should try a different dish instead of ordering the same thing all the time.

Best Thai I have had outside of Thailand - the sizzling duck plate is spectacular

Food is Great, Staff not so good. Food is great! Both dine in and take away. Good sized portions and good price.

staff barely speak any english at all, wich is a bit annoying when you get the wrong meal and try to tell them about it....

Really nice food, affordable prices and there's a street food menu at the back of the menu (nice idea), for some non-standard items. Will be back for sure.

Brilliant!. Consistently brilliant food! This is my favorite Thai place and have been going there for the past year. I find it having fresh, hot, and delicious Thai dishes, always friendly and great service. A++

Same old aussified thai. People who reviewed this saying it was authentic I think need to re-visit Thailand. Although the pad Thai was marginally authentic and successful my Pad Kra Pow was the same as I have had at 100 other Thai restaurants throughout Australia and New Zealand: Non authentic vegetables, over sweet, under spiced and just all around a disappointment.
Taste was decent sure but in no way an authentic Thai dish.

Delicious and cheap lunch menu. Service was quick and pleasant. Definitely will be back

If there was a "it's ok" button i would have clicked that. Food was decent but not the best Thai I have ever had.
Suggest you take away as eating in is similar to playing "sardines" as a teenager except without the groping from a girl you like in a closet. Tables are very close together and yelling is essential if one wants to be heard. First daters steer clear!

Disappointing. I really wanted to like this place, with all the great things I've heard about it, and it being so close to my house but I was pretty disappointed. Excessively oily roti and bits of egg shell in my noodle dish! I think I'll try out the other thai places on lygon..

Reliably good.

Yummy authentic Thai food. The down fall about this place is how noisy it can get and the lack of space. The food is delicious, if you can handle alot of chilli in your food. Some dishes that state on the menu that it has chilli i suggest you speak to your waitress if you can only handle mild. I've been here a few times and have tried a few things on the menu. It's reasonably priced and the vegetables they use are never over cooked. I must say though the green curry chicken had way too much ginger and not enough chicken. The thai roti with sauce is my favourite!! Overall well priced, quick service and lots of fresh flavours.

Slow service, bad food. I had heard good things about this place but when i tried it last week I was really dissapointed. The waitress was rude and abrupt which didn't get the meal of to a good start and the food came slowly.
I could always hear shouting from the kitchen like the boss was angry with the staff or something which didn't make for a good atmosphere in the restaurant.
The food was hit and miss - gai orb was good but the red duck curry was just crap - entrees i might as well have bought from the freezer at the supermarket and cooked them myself. Didn't try deserts. Not sure where these other good reviews come from - did I just come on a bad night? Might give it another go later on and see if it can improve - but to be honest I like the atmosphere at Thaila Thai just up the road a lot more.

Good Thai, Friendly Service. Its now a fortnightly social gathering to Thai On Street with my friends on Thursdays, which we stumbled upon when finding somewhere to eat one night - with our bottle of wine each.

The food is really good - I'd recommend the satay for starters, and the duck or the Thai Green Chicken. The girls that work here are lovely too, and always get us a seat if its busy.

There are seats available outside - however coming into winter could be doing with a heater outside.

Its the goods. The food, service and speediness is consistent. staff are super friendly and recommend great dishes. sizzling plates, prawn skewers and pad thai are delicious! we visit regularly. the place does get very busy for dinner - recommend to book.

Sensational. Wether you eat.... Sensational.
Wether you eat in, or feel like a night on the couch with some fantastic take away, this is the place to hit up.
Reminds me of Thailand, with a great array of traditional Thai flavors and aromas.
The roti bread is to die for. Oh, did I also mention that 50 bucks will feed 2 people? BYO also so head down with your favorite bottle and enjoy a great night.

Food was really good, very reasonable prices! Staff were all very friendly. We had a salad and red curry which were both delicious.

Really enjoyed the food. Service a bit slow to start but food came out quickly. Will go back. Reasonably priced, great portion size. A loud place when full so don't recommend if want to have serious conversations ;)

Yummy food cheap prices definitely heading back :)

Great food. Pick up order. Food was still hot when I got it home. Tom yum was delicious and so was the roti with satay sauce. Also great chicken friend rice and a tasty red curry. A favourite in east brunswick!

Definately going back. It's always a good sign when a restaurant is packed. We had to wait a few minutes to get a table but the wait was well worth it. I seriously recommend trying the coconut juice. It's just as good, if not better than drinking juice straight from a coconut in Thailand. The Massaman beef curry was a killer and the staff were super friendly.

Much Better Than The Neighbours. There are a couple of other Thai places nearby, but Thai on Street is by far the better option. The Moo Yang (Grilled pork) was excellent, as were their salads. We didn't love their stir-frys, but the other dishes were so fresh and delicious that we have to forgive them for the pedestrian stir-fry attempt.

I would certinly go back

Customer service is non existent ... The waitress actually rolled her eyes at me when I asked for her recommendations! Let's hope the food does not disappoint
