What a beautiful calm space. Discovered this bakery recently and had a great time. I find the space so beautiful and open. We had a nice chai and iced coffee as well as delicious pastries. They have a vegan cookie and carrot cake which were both delicious.

This bakery in the small street of Brunswick will immediately draw you in with their heavenly aroma from their freshly baked goods and toasted sandwiches. They update their menus and create new and limited edition goods that I always find myself here. Their selection of cakes and pastries as well as their infamous kimchi toastie & caramelised onion toastie sell out so early bc they are that good. Almond croissant (4/5): the lamination and butteriness of the croissant is insane as I bit into that crunchy webbing. The almond frangipane was delicious but personally wasnā€™t mind-blowing as other reviews have stated. Wished to have more flakiness, as well as a bit of a softer interior to win my heart. Kimchi cheese sandwich(3/5): the sourdough bread is the star of the sandwich. So well buttered and toasted, which paired well with that tangy fermented kimchi and cheesy goodness. I love my kimchi religiously but the kimchi here was unfortunately a letdown as it had not been fermented enough given its sour overpowering taste. Their pies and sausage rolls are on another level. The flaky pastry obviously goes unsaid, but the filling is so complex - they love their mix of sweet and savoury, and aromatics. I always roll my eyes when I bite into their oversized pastries. Caramelised onion cheese sandwich (4.5/5): the aroma in this made me speechless. A nice sweet salty and tangy kick from the caramelised onion which paired so well with the consistently buttery sourdough. Look out for their specials bc they are always beyond amazing and wish they were here to say, esp their banoffee danish and apple walnut caramel koji turnover pastry. Food: 4 Value: 3.5 Ambience: 4.5 Service: 4

By far the best sourdough in Melbourne! Weā€™ve been buying our sourdough from here for more than 2 years. Havenā€™t been able to find another bakery that matches the quality! The staff are always so friendly which is a massive bonus! Definitely give their sourdough a try.

This place serves up one of the best breads and pastries. Definitely try their morning bun, focaccia slices and all their sandwiches are delish, especially their ham cheese toastie, roast chicken and egg creamed greens baguettes.

Had plain croissant, quiche and sausage roll. All were good and nice warm quiche and sausage roll. I went to Monday but toast was not available šŸ˜

I went there many times for a coffee on the go. They only offer 2 alternatives for non-dairy consumers: oat milk and soy milk. The coffee was absolutely delicious!!!.... I went recently to have lunch, they close early (around 3 pm I think) and I order a special menu of the day: a combination of salads, and again, it was delicious!... my salad was a full meal itself, after finished it I was absolutely satisfied. I loved the combination of colors, textures and the dressing full of flavors. I didnā€™t need to add nothing else. The dish came with a very thick slice of homemade -authentic- sourdough bread and a portion of butter aside. I loved the Wild Life Bakery, the vibes, friendly staff, the decoration, spacious, clean, well illuminated... I canā€™t wait to be in the surroundings again and have lunch there once more. A selection of a daily special plus a coffee was around $22/24, the prices are fair enough. Last but not least, you can buy very good quality bakery products there to take home, such as different kinds of breads, croissants and other sweet treats. I recommend

Very good sourdough, one of the best in Melbourne. We have tried many of the big brands in Melbourne and this has been the best so far. Also exceptional customer service! Will be coming back for more even though we live nearly 1hour away!

Excellent cafe, serving amazing cakes and bread. Friendly service and a nice space. Possibly one of the best cakes Iā€™ve ever eaten. Highly recommended.

This place is a haven for anyone who loves the bliss of eating a high quality pastry or loaf! The attention to detail and selection of high quality ingredients is evident in both the taste and look of their products. Will definitely be back to sample more goodies šŸ‘

This large and light filled spot is perfect for breakfast, bread, coffee or pastries. I love the simple and rustic yet innovative menu. Everything is pretty reasonably priced and fresh but hearty. The $13 egg, creamed greens and onion baguette is very crusty with just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess. Coffee is also very nice.

This bakery cafe in the backstreets of Brunswick is an absolute hidden gem. Not your usual style of bakery, Wild Life has a large open warehouse feel with windows into the kitchen so that you can see the bakers at work. With it's white walls and open front, there is heaps of natural light making this a gorgeous place to dine.

It gets quite busy, especially on weekends; but if you are lucky, you will score a table and be able to dine in. There are tables indoors and out, as well as stools at the counter. Staff are friendly and always happy to suggest what is good. The shelves and cabinets overflow with delicious breads, pastries and cakes; all of which are such temptation.

Meals are also cooked in the kitchen, but we've only ever been here for coffee and cake. They really are irresistible, all hand made and just so tasty. Beautiful flaky croissants, gigantic choc chip cookies, delicious fruit tarts and amazing moist cakes. Every time we come we try something different and have yet to be disappointed.

The pastry is flaky and buttery. The cookies are full of molten chocolate pieces and the tarts have perfectly short pastry. The apple crumble cake was such a pleasure... we devoured it in minutes.

Coffee is also excellent and goes perfectly with these sweet treats. Wild Life Bakery is well worth seeking out as it's a beautiful spot to enjoy some fantastic food and coffee, or simply pop in to grab some takeaway treats to enjoy at home.

I found out about Wild Life Bakery the way plebs unaware of Melbourneā€™s latest advancements in sourdough found out about it ā€“ through this effusive Broadsheet review about its famed baguette with egg, creamed greens and onion jam. While it didnā€™t, in itself, sound that exciting, I believed the writer when he wrote: ā€œit sounds downright boring on the menu, but then you bite into it and feel like Nicholas Cage and Ed Harris discovering a national treasureā€. I wanted to feel like Nick and Ed when they discovered god knows what in a blockbuster film Iā€™ve actively steered clear from for no apparent reason other than ambivalence.

The food is tasty and the coffee is good, but the service is a little disorganised and scattered. Orders for baked goods get forgotten, have had to follow it up a few times and they've missed a few things ordered off the menu.

I learnt about this place via a Time Out post and decided to try. It was very spacious with friendly staff and was not crazy busy on a Sunday afternoon which was nice. I liked the modern interior design of the bakery and somehow it reminded me of Lune Croissanterie in Fitzroy. The mocha I ordered was very delicious, however, their Shakshuka with feta and braised lamb shoulder was definitely a highlight of the day.

Great bread... just donā€™t throw it through a window. It weighed like a bowling ball. The cafe was airy, spacious and despite having to put our names down we got a table quickly. The coffee was good but the breakfast was stunning. These days youā€™ve gotta do something different to stand out and this place has done it.

Brown rice congee? Duck egg? Sumptuous yet surprisingly filing. A little spicy too. One of the best shahshukas Iā€™ve had. Definitely worth a visit or many.

An amazing find! Set in a re designed workshop the space was really great! Delicious food and friendly staff. Lots of room and natural light. Comte and onion toastie was mouthwatering!

Wild Life Bakery is a bakery and cafe in Brunswick East from seasoned barista and self confessed bread lover Huw Murdoch. Murdoch was (and is) a huge fan of the bread at San Franciscoā€™s Tartine Bakery.

DROOLWORTHY PASTRIES! I go to Wild Life for the best pain au chocolate, cinnamon scrolls and sourdough fruit bread. The croissants are delectable- crispy to the touch but hiding layers of airy, buttery soft pastry that just melt in your mouth together with its creamy milk chocolate filling. I have bought their sourdough fruit bread for weeks on end and itā€™s become a staple at my house now. This rustic looking shell doesnā€™t look much outside but it hides a moist, highly hydrated loaf that is bejewelled with juicy dried apricots and raisins. Itā€™s delicious toasted and buttered piping hot!
In this part of town I have struggled to find good, high quality bakeries let alone artisanal ones so Wild Life is really in a class of its own! It has such an amazing range of breads and pastries. During the weekdays the varieties are their standard selection but Saturday mornings and weekends in general is when they churn out the extra stuff (including iced cinnamon scrolls and other really interesting and unusual cakes). Go there for a coffee, a pastry and pick up a loaf to take home. You will love it!

We get our bread here as often as we can even though it is a bit expensive - we love the seeded varieties. Only rarely have coffee (good) and had breakfast here just once. The menu is small (lots of sweet treats and a few toasted sandwiches). I agree the sandwiches are very generous and tasty, but if you want something else...

Lovely airy space, delicious bread & croissants, great coffee, food is fresh & really nice, service is friendly, what more could you want. Very popular and no wonder.

Itā€™s really nice cafe and kids friendly in the community . My child and I love this cafe so much. We also love their bread and food. The cafe is also good for full time mother to relax and have a cup of coffee while take care of children in the busy day

2020 essential for all baked goods needs, and more

Croissants, $5, always a winner. They were happy to put straight into my own container.
Prepacked meals available in the fridge.
Confit mushrooms, $18, were delicious. Vacuum sealed so shelf life is a few weeks.

---

Great neighborhood bakery. Very popular for your daily fresh bread.
Toasted sandwich with comte and onions, $13, good flavours. A tad expensive for what it was (a cheese toastie, gourmet at that).
Salted caramel brownie, $5.5, was amazing.
Not my first choice for dine in but top choice for all the baked goods.

Wild Life Bakery in Brunswick is a family friendly modernistic cafe and on site bakery serving very good coffee and food from a small yet humble menu. The interior is upbeat with huge amounts of natural light elevating the room provided via the glass walls of the vicinity. There is ample seating inside with only a few picnic tables out the front to catch some sun. Towards the back of the bakery is where the magic happens though as customers can watch the bakers at work, kneading dough for their one of a kind fresh bread and immaculate baked treats.Ā

On a lazy Saturday afternoon spent in the park across the road from the cafe we where feeling peckish and Wild Life bakery looked mighty appealing. Upon entering it was surprisingly busy but we grabbed a table for 3 as a waitress noted our arrival. The friendly waitress provided us with menus and took our coffee orders of a iced latte and a takeaway long black. The drinks arrived promptly and the iced latte was decent. Slightly on the strong side for my counterpart but it was still enjoyed. The long black was subtle and smooth with a hint of fruity acidic taste that lingered on the palate. After viewing the very small yet sophisticated menu we decided on good old comfort food choosing toasted kimchi and cheddar toasted sandwich as well as the ham, Comte and mustard butter toasted sandwich.

The sandwiches arrived and our jaws dropped. The size of these sandwiches was impressive with thickly sliced house made bread filled with gooey cheesing goodness. The free range ham, comte and mustard butter sandwich was packed full of thickly cut ham that was nice and salty. The mustard butter added bite and the comte cheese was tangy and stringy perfect for an excellent toastie. The kimchi and cheddar sandwich was equally as indulgent with a great spice to it complimented by the harsh cheddar cheese. Both sandwiches where flawless with the bread being the highlight, crunchy, thick and generously glowing with butter. The addition of a side of pickles was a nice touch relieving the palate from the shear density of these outstanding sandwiches.

Wild Life bakery is an excellent spot for a small bite to eat, delivering wonderful tasty treats both sweet and savoury that are freshly baked on the daily. Wether your in need of a suburb coffee or comforting loaf of fresh bread this bakery has you well and truely sorted.

Poor customer service and lukewarm coffee and hot chocolate. The staff never smiled and we were ignored when we first waited at the counter. Don't think I'd go back there again despite their hot chocolate being Mƶrk.

Wild Life Bakery is an excellent bakery cafe with some stunning food. The cauliflower baguette is probably my favourite sandwich Iā€™ve had anywhere, itā€™s rich and cheesy and satisfying. The almond croissant is similarly excellent, with almonds and hazelnuts and a lovely crisp shell. Prices are relatively high compared to its neighbours, but I think it worth the price.

Great Bakery. Great food. Had the cauliflower baguette. Fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended. The menu has a good collection of items and I wanted to try all of them.
