Had a very nice first dining experience here by way of EatClub! Was a but disappointed to go in for a Thali and find they're takeaway only (why?), but ended up loving what I ordered instead. I shared a palak paneer and an alu cholle plus saffron rice and garlic naan. Rice and naan were okay on their own, but the red garlic puree slathered onto the bread was delicious. The alu cholle was nice, simple and pretty healthy tasting, while the paneer was rich and decadent. It was easily the best item I ordered and one of the superior palak paneers I've tried. Good amount of food for the price, even without the coupon. Service was also prompt and very friendly.
A pocket friendly place where you can quench your thirst for Indian cuisine without emptying your pockets. The portions they serve are really good. I ordered chicken korma and butter chicken which turned out average. The naans are supple and soft. I also ordered chole bhature which turned out better than the non veg menu. The curries were served with steamed rice which were complimentary. Therefore it's value for money for sure.
This is my favourite Indian in Melbourne. Super yummy and super cheap. I’ll keep coming back to this place for years and years and years. Thank you!
Always a pleasure to return to Kake. It's our Indian go to, it has been consistently good good over the years. If ambience is important to you I suggest you go elsewhere but I really appreciate the daggy decor.
Only got delivery, so can't speak to the venue, but I feel obliged to praise the service. Asked for extra sauce on my butter chicken and these legends gave me a whole extra tupperware container of the good stuff, liquid gold. The garlic naan is also doing plenty, the chicken itself isn't the best I've had, but the sauce and service isn't upsetting anyone, would recommend!
Haven't been here for years, had a really good takeaway the other night and was very happy with the meal. Plenty of chicken pieces in the vindaloo and plenty of lamb in the madras. Well worth it.
A very tasty veg curry and yellow Dahl delivered to us for Sunday dinner. Nann bread and papadams were fresh and a great addition to the meal.
I've ordered a couple of times from these guys via Uber eats. The paneer is fantastic, you can tell they make it in-house - it's fresh and tasty. The curries are flavoursome. It is on the more expensive side and the servings are small. I'll only order from here for a treat.
My boyfriend and I recently got a takeaway from this place after craving a good curry for a few months... it wasn't a disappointment! The curries here are lovely - we had a chicken Patiala and chicken madras and both were beautifully spiced, creamy and delicious. We also shared some breads - the Amritsari Kulcha which was very nice but a little stodgy, and also the garlic naan which very heavy on the garlic for my taste but nonetheless enjoyable. All dishes are really cheap too! So pleased we finally found a great local Indian!
This is a great little place to have dinner at every once in a while. It's extremely pocket friendly, casual and chilled out. I am required to have a 140 characters so I'll type this. If u like Indian food, u gotta try this little joint.
Kake di hatti was our choice last night as were on an Indian food mood. We arrived and the place is very simple and a but outdated. Once we got the menus we ordered a Rogan Josh, beef Madras, Roti, Saffron Rice and for dessert a Kulfi. The curries were to die for, super rich and tasty, the dessert was my personal highlight: delicious! The let downs were the beef as the meat was a bit too fatty and the roti was a bit stale not soft and fluffy. Aside from that, great serving sizes, well priced and truly Indian tasty. Thank you Kake for having us 🖒🖒🖒
The best Indian in Melbourne hands down. The Shahi Paneer is incredible. I've ordered this dish over and over, the curries are great and not coated in a film of oil like most "Indian" places in Melb!

Continuing my tryst if exploring Indian cuisine in Melbourne, I came across KDH while randomly walking across Weston Street. The prices are cheap, the food is lovely and the location is absolutely ideal. Try the Paneer (cottage cheese) varieties and they won't leave you disappointed. It's a little disappointing on weekdays when they only agree for takeaways.
Hate to know how many times I have eaten here, Possible the best value Indian restaurant. I recommend Samoa's, Vindaloo, Saag and Korma. A huge feast for less the $20pp Plus BYO.
Of course you can't beat a cheap eats which satisfies the tastebuds and provides a decent serving. The place isn't flashy, if you didn't see the foodie recommendation stickers on the window you might consider it questionable dining, but it gives you that authentic feel. Try the lamb vindaloo medium with the garlic naan!
The best Indian food I've had in Melbourne. While the venue itself is simple and very casual the food is well worth it. Very reasonably priced. My favourite dish is the fish curry. The mango lassi is freaking amazing. Do yourself a favour and go here!
I love Kaki di Hatti. The samosas are delicious and reasonably priced, and i love the dahl makhani and eggplant korma. Lots of vegetarian options and the staff are friendly.
My favourite Indian take away in Brunswick. If only they delivered.... Always so delicious, with minimal fuss. Authentic tasting food. Yum.
I'm not usually a big fan of Indian food but Kake Di Hatti was actually delicious!
offering decent Indian food at an amazingly low cost. In fact, the bill between the two of us was about $30 which cemented our newly acquired love for this no-fuss,no-frills Indian restaurant. After reading several blogs rave about Kake Di Hatti , I decided on a whim to check it out late on a Tuesday evening. There is nothing pretentious to be found here. Just cheap, flavourful north Indian cuisine. And oh, the garlic naan…the naan is an essential side and at Kake Di Hatti it is perfection . We quickly ordered garlic naan, rice, the goat curry and chicken korma. When asked how spicy we wanted it, we gave the usual hopeful response of ‘very spicy, we like spice!’. Bring it on. Whilst waiting we broke open the bottle of wine J had brought. I freakin’ love BYO and at 99c per person,
These three are just the entrees for 4 people. The tandoori chicken is really tender and taste how it should be. The samosa is quite big, its not bad but nothing special. I'm not really sure what're in the platter, they are nice except the green one.
Great curries, great price. It's hard to find good Indian. Fortunately, the curries here are very delicious - meat is tender, sauces are not too watery or oily and you can specify your level of spice. We ordered the Malai Kofta, Goat Curry and a Chicken Pateir and all three were excellent. Roti was flakey and tasty, rice was cooked properly.
Don't come here for ambiance - it resembles a school hall. Service isn't charming or memorable but gets the job done. Come for tasty Indian curries at $13 a pop, BYO and some half decent Indian beers.
We love it, so who cares?. This place has been a favourite of ours for the last 12 years. We keep going back, and if we want a consistently good curry this is where we go. Try the Chicken Patiala, which is my husband's favourite. I love the Saag so much and the Pakoras are a great way to start among friends. Enjoy, just don't look around because the place is pretty dingy. I love how they only turn the back lights on when the restaurant gets busy :)
Good price good food. Try the shahi paneer so delicious!! This is a very budget restaurant and the service and decor reflect this so it's not appropriate for a date or the in laws but great for a no frills catch up!
Great tasting food and well priced especially the butter chicken and naan bread
The starters weren't great. I ordered the Onion Bhaji which was soaked in oil. Wasnt crunchy at all. Other starters weren't great either. But the curry was awesome! Would get a take away though as the ambience kinda sucks. Dull and boring. The naans were average but the curry redeems it all.
Ahhh...simpler times. As a part of my ongoing quest to enjoy a good, simple meal without paying $$$ for a 'culinary experiance', I was led to Kake by a friend. It was a little dark inside, and while empty looked just a little terrifying. This was a classic mistake of judging a book by the cover.
With BYO drinks, great curry and an amazing vegetarian platter, I could not have asked for a better night. It was cheap, tasty and relaxing. If you love Shanghai Dumplings in the CBD, you will LOVE this place.
I'm now thinking of that platter....I have to go back.
Delicious and Very Affordable. The best :-)
Really liked our dinner here (second time).
Definitely gonna go again!
The vegetarian food is outstanding. We've been here plenty of times and will always come back. The dishes are heaving and so cheap I wonder how they turn a profit. Decor inside ain't glamorous, so go for takeaway if you don't like plastic tables and chairs. It's BYO too so jump over to Black Sparrows for a bottle of plonk. Be careful where you park though; the bombers will fine you any time any day in the time it takes you to pickup take away. 5 stars.
Good, honest, cheap and delicious Indian. We go here regularly and it's yum! The samosas are so gooooood! Staff are lovely.
DELICIOUS. Amazing, amazing rich and creamy indian food.
And the naan bread....the best I have EVER had! The lather it in beautiful spices, garlic and butter.
I crave this weekly.
Highly reccommended and very affordable.

Great food. Great prices.. My local Indian place. Always delicious. Great servings, quick service at an extremely affordable price. BYO. Basic decor but who cares if the food is amazing? It is relaxed and a great dinner. Highly recommended.
Amazing! Went there last night and still thinking about how good it was! Butter chicken was delicious. The only down was that the rogan josh didn't have enough chilli in it when asked for it to be hot. But all in all... Yum!
Great tasting Indian, very fresh. Our waiter was extremely friendly and professional. Will be back again. The captain dish and the pakora were winners!!!
Amazing. First of all, great food! I pretty much moaned the whole meal, every bite was better than the last. The wait staff were also very friendly; when I asked them to point out to me what is "no animal products" on the menu, the waiter went straight to the kitchen and got the vegan products on the menu mapped out for me by the chef.
My partner thoroughly enjoyed his meal, aswell.
Between the two of us we ordered 2 curry, naan bread and rice, and that only amounted to a bill of $30!
The only downside is that the Laksa needs a little work - it is too sweet, and so obviously made from syrup.
All in all, amazing, and I can't wait to go back.
The great and the Average!. Sure the place hasn't been upgraded since the 80's and the service is pretty ordinary... but it is all made better by the amazing food and BYOB option...!!!
it is even better now because Blackhearts & Sparrows is across the road where they have a great choice of wine and beer!!!!
Nice curry and bread. HUGE portion. I had the chicken curry. the meat was really soft.
Also ordered paratha bread with potato stuffing which was beautifully cooked/baked. The garlic naan was delicious too. will definitely come back again : ) Afordable yummy curry in brunswick. can't go wrong with that!
Great food here, would definitely be back. Lots of vego options avail.
Good Indian - great price. Nice friendly place, very basic, fast enough service, and great flavoured food. An instant hit for cheap and tasty Indian food without the frills. The Makhani is famed. If you ask for "Indian Spicy" it all comes out spicy, which is a bonus as a lot of the time Melbourne Indian restaurants err on the mild side!
Love this place and couldn't wish for more for the price.
Excellent. Food amazing for its price. Great indian with BYO. Perfect place for a good feed before heading out.
Really good value food - much better than Yogi Da Daba! Mango LASIK was also excellent.
I love this place. Usually im not a big fan of indian food, its mostly liquid form with some lumps... however, kake di hatti is freakin awesome..
the whole experience, from the wine bought across the road, to the massive indian muscleman taking our order, to the ambiance, to the food..
i pity the day that brunswick becomes lame apartments catering to Nandos, Grilled, yuppie cafes and Jeans West cos kake di hatti is a great experience..
go there..
Great Indian! Place needs a bit of a revamp but the food is such great value and delicious!
Non-Nonsense Indian. This indian eatery offers good value for money with its non-nonsense approach. No fancy decorations, but friendly service and decent food. As an Indian restaurant, it has good vegetarian and some vegan options. I liked the variety of breads.
You can choose the spicing, but be aware that the spiciness is judged from an Indian point of view - I found the medium spice of my mixed vegetables to be rather on the hot side, for example. The food tastes quite authentic and the portions should fill up everybody.
Forget about the beer offered. Its Carlton,VB and their asian counterparts.
Awesome Restaurant. Great little restaurant, cheap menu with generous portions, it's not super flash and the staff are pretty casual but they are lovely all the same and it is a great relaxed atmosphere.
Visited this great little place for Friday night dinner and this 12 year old establishment certainly lives up to it's reviews. We had the country style chicken curry and saffron rice with garlic Naan. The chicken curry was not overly rich and had a beautiful tomato consistency. The garlic naan was the real winner , covered with fresh garlic and paprika. For the price tag of $28 for 2 people, this place is well worth the money .
Terrific Food and Prices. Best in Melbourne alongside Indian Palace. Simple Decor but friendly staff and host.
Food remains delicious everytime I go there. Its fresh and not as greasy as some of the other Indian restaurants (KDH do water based curries than oil/butter based).
Great food good prices. Great curries and good prices.
I am a lover of both traditional Indian curries and the Westernised versions which are creamier and a little sweeter than traditional. All up one of my favourite curry haunts in Melbourne.
First time coming here with my friend and We loved the food and really enjoyed our experience. The ambience of the restaurant was very pleasant, and it was spacious and clean.
The restaurant owner was very nice and humble, with great customer service. Would definitely come back here again with friends and family.
Once again, the food was amazing! Would give it 6 stars if i could.
Exquisite dishes. Had some of the chefs recommendations and were thoroughly impressed. Also - try the Blue Cheese Naan! You will not find that anywhere else. Great service too. Hard to find any faults! Will be back.
My second dinner here in about a month, and it didn’t disappoint.
The decor is fine, the service is brilliant, the food is great and they have some really good wines and great spirits on their list. The Old Indian dark rum was excellent. As were the red wines.
The restaurant is well insulated from the trams and traffic out front. It seemed like the glass at the front was double glazed!
The food was delicious and filling. Greatly enjoyed the spice level of the lamb korma and the presentation of the messy samosa. The customer service was great and made it feel like a cosy spot that l’ll definitely be going back to!
Grabbed some take out tonight for dinner and everyone was blown away with how tasty and delicious the food from Avrah is! Couldn’t recommend this restaurant more! Thank you!
Food was incredible. Best messy samosas ever. Highly recommend this place to everyone.
Fantastic place for authentic Indian food. Had a chance to meet Amit (the owner) and his brother who is the chef there. Family run business and amazing hospitality. It's a must visit if you like great Indian food with an incredible menu. Do try the goat cheese chicken appetizer. It's delicious and a different option which we haven't come across before. We'll definitely be visiting again.
