Review Choukette French Bakery - Brunswick

Jana Levit
Varied options, nice and local option in Sydney Road. Came in the AM on a weekday and noticed the croissant was a little squished and the sausage roll was on the dry side. Might come back to try some other options down the track.

A lovely cafe with French style cakes, pastries and some savoury options. Coffee is great and reasonably priced and the staff are friendly. The cakes are perhaps a little more expensive than some other cafes but they are delicious and freshly made, so well worth paying a little bit more. Other items such as freshly made jams are also available for purchase.

Being French, I admit the bakery has nailed it. Pastries taste like back home. Friendly staff.

Ordered an almond croissant for breakfast The worst croissant I have never tasted. The bottom is wet and soft . I asked the staff to warm up but it’s still so cold inside. Horrible

A beautiful little cafe with wonderful produce. Friendly, fast service. Love it! 🥐🧡

Croissants are the right amount of butteriness, croque monsieur is creamy, coffee is reliable good. So many tasty treats in the window. Reasonably priced for this focus on quality, especially given it is all house-made. A true taste of France.

Love Choukette! Staff are always friendly, food is delicious and coffee excellent. Cosy spot to eat in and super affordable too. Highly recommend.

The dessert/sweets are quite delicous but the sausage roll was dry and needed more than the teaspoon of relish it came with and hot chocolate drink had no flavour to it.

Crunchy flaky wonderful pastries. Special thumbs up for the duck pie!! Stopped for quick lunch & left w afternoon snacks & desserts for dinner. Everything was so tempting. All the food is handmade & looks so beautiful...but more importantly, it tastes like in France. Service was smiley & efficient, too bad Facebook doesn't do 6 stars.. Well done & merci les amis

Great friendly staff, and terrific coffee!! Can't recommend highly enough :-D

A great little find in Brunswick, coffee was pretty good and pastries were divine. The beef pie was the best also. Great service with a friendly smile and an accent so that's always good. Yummy!

Ordered a takeaway ham and cheese croissant, warmed up. Did not expect any French bakery to microwave their croissants. Not only was it limp, very soggy, and horribly chewy as would be expected from a 60 second nuking, but it tasted really stale too. Very disappointing. Inedible, and such a shame to ruin and then serve what was probably (hopefully) decent food to start with.

Beautiful staff and seriously delicious food!

I brought my daughter in this morning for her 18th birthday breakfast - I expected some hyped up version of what might be some try-hard French food. What we found was a Melbournian version of a truly French cafe that is faithful to its origins. That was completely unexpected. You would be excused to think you have walked through the door and stepped into France. The food is unbelievably authentic, all hand made and they speak French.!! Why was I not told of this sooner?? And everyone smiles...the customer service is impeccable. Thank you Choukette.

My family and I Celebrated my Graduation at this lovely French Bakery, eating very tasty croissants & cake.. The staff were so lovely and service was quick.. Also the coffee was really good.. Highly recommended ....

The best french cafe in melbourne. You feel like you are in Paris. Go there most weekends for breakfast

I first had their croissants at Bastille Day festival this year and it was so delicious! I had the plain and also the almond croissant, and I am in love with the almond croissant. So much filling and very buttery. Love love love it. Definitely visiting the cafe soon yay!!

I've lived in France. This is the most authentic French café experience I've had outside France. The pastries are simply superb and the coffee doesn't disappoint either.
Paul Shaw
Fabulous croissants, delicious pastries, great coffee and a friendly atmosphere. What more could you ask for? Very highly recommended.

Cute little French cafe near home that I will sorely miss when I leave Brunswick. The pies are fantastic as is the coffee and service.

So been here a few times and like their stuff sometimes and other times it’s just not up to scratch.

So we regularly get their almond croissants, first time we got them it’s devine. But second time the top was burnt and I’m sure I was over charged.

Next time it seems like I was given a mini version, with the top of the croissant fallen off.

Nice stuff, but so inconsistent.
Quince And Cheese
Choukette has been a favourite haunt of mine since I first moved to Brunswick years ago. It's cosy and quaint and unpretentious with such a charming vibe. Sometimes they have vegan sweet options, which is a real treat. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with a classic croissant or quiche plus a coffee. Soy is available (of course) and done really well.
Bites Of Melbourne
My fav little cafe in the area!

Great coffee, I believe most of the staff are French and very happy to chat.

The most delicious pastries that I keep going back for time and time again.

It can take a while on weekend for a coffee as it’s so popular

You can now get table service also

Highly recommended
Good Food Good Mood
Running early for a gig and in need of a hot beverage so we popped in to Choukette and not only do they do a great almond latte they have an amazing range of desserts, stunning take away cakes and even house made jams. It’s a shame they were closing and we had to get takeaway

Choukette is one of Brunswick’s iconic cafes serving up immaculate French delicacies in a small comforting setting. Located on Sydney road with only 3 tables out the front Choukette gets very busy as people stop in to grab pastries to go or dine in for a light bite to eat.

Upon entering this adorable French cafe late afternoon the lunch rush had been and gone and there was only a few other customers relaxing enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. Taking 2 steps inside I was immediately confronted with a huge assortment of sweet treats behind the cabinet, from cakes to pastries, sorbets and tarts AND if that wasn’t enough hot pies and savoury sandwiches are also available leaving one spoilt for choice.

We grabbed a seat towards the back of the cafe near the drinks station and had a quick glance at the surprisingly large menu for such a small eatery. The order at the counter deal ensures the line moves quick for those in a hurry with takeaways but table service is also on offer. As I placed my order I was greeted by an overly friendly waiter who informed me that the pastries where on offer 2 for 1, a deal I simply could not surpass. I ordered my usual long black and cappuccino along with a rhubarb and pear danish with the added in bonus of a chocolate and cream filled croissant. I was given a table number and waited in anticipation.

The coffees arrived in a timely fashion. The long black was average, slightly watering and bitter but still remained a slight touch of acidity. The cappuccino was much better thick and creamy with a perfect frothy top. The pastries were clearly the highlight though. Buttery, flakey pasties, pulling apart with ease revealing a fluffy centre easy to indulge in. The Rhubarb and pear danish had a generous apart of fruit and wasn’t to sweet. The chocolate and cream filled croissant was packed with hard decadent chocolate with swirls of cream throughout.

Choukette is the ideal location if you are in need of a quick cheap bite to eat or kill time escaping reality and letting your tastebuds experience a touch of authentic French cuisine. The freshly baked goods are excellent but the coffee can be improved but overall it’s easy to see why this little cafe is so popular.

4.5
Mon Dieu! Choukette est aussi proche que possible d'un vrai café français. Exceptionnel.

A fairly unassuming cafe until you walk through the door.
Friendly, almost homely atmosphere and excellent customer service skills.
Everything made on premises with passion, detail and skill.
Hard to beat for quality authenticity and price.

Love the ham and cheese croissant, order 1 every time I stop by. Other sweets are also delicious. The atmosphere is very cozy. My favorite place in Brunswick!

Hands down the best cafe in the neighbourhood. Fantastic staff, coffee, and food.
Best croissants in all Melbourne. Great options, sweets or savouries.
Congrats folks

Nothing fancy to see...unless you like some jewelled bites of delight, layers of ganache and caramel, lashed with custard and tatted up with some berries. Nothing fancy at all to see.

No fancy soundtrack...unless you like the constant spit and hum of a coffee machine that churns out the best cup we’ve found in Brunswick...served with a French accent. Yep nothing to hear here at all.

Nothing fancy to nibble on...unless you want to count your soul lucky instead of your hips and forget how many sticks of butter it took to make your croissant so delicately crusty (it’s a lot).

Yep if you’re after balsamic jus and thrice cooked duck with pomegranate jewels...move on and leave a table open for me here at this amazing gem.
Ines
It is hard to evaluate a place if nobody wants to work in there... 10 minutes waiting in front of the counter and no one even tried to ask what I wanted to order. One guy preparing coffee, and the other hidden talking with his friends. Thanks for nothing...

You know how a good breakfast place can really start your day off wonderfully? This is it! I just walked out of this place a few minutes ago but I’m still excited about the experience (although that could just be the caffeine kicking in haha).
It’s a rainy morning, and I had to the tram as well as walking a few minutes to get there, but as soon as I walked in the door I started to love the place. Great vibe and an excellent presentation of desserts. This place was oozing the good old-fashioned French bakery ambiance. The waitress was super nice and cheerful, which was a big YES. Coffee and croissant for 6.95? Hit me!
Didn’t wait very long to get my food. Flat white was delicious, and the jam that came with the croissant turned out to be pear jam. How interesting! The croissant was a bit cold, but you still get all the flakiness that a decent croissant should have.
I suggest coming early in the morning like I did, and grab a seat before all the loyal customers fill it up. You won’t regret it (and no I’m not overselling this place).

Cute little french patisserie on Sydney Road Brunswick. I highly recommend the croissants, baguettes and above all, the vanilla slice! Definitely the best vanilla slice I have ever had (reminds me so much of Paris!). Well done Choukette, excellent service and excellent desserts. Will certainly be back for more.
Byron's Vanilla Slice Blog
En route home I called in to a French Patisserie in the heart of Brunswick gaining some press. With an authentic Frenchman behind the counter, he suggested a vanilla slice and a raspberry choux would be a good combination for a pregnant Mrs B craving sugar and cream. Trying desperately hard to place the two items in the takeaway box, sadly the vanilla slice started to slump and the lovely gentleman needed to reconstruct the raspberry choux after a minor collapse. The mille-feuille had noticeable vanilla bean content running through the custard and tasted creamy and rich when sampled with a cheeky finger. The pastry, however, was a let down. It was uneven in thickness and texture; crisp in places but soggy in others and lacking the buttery richness you normally get with fine French pastries. When eaten all together the custard wasn’t strong enough in flavour and was overpowered by the pastry due to the overall quantities. The icing was beautifully patterned and a good thickness, containing a nice chocolate after taste when finished. Mrs B loved her raspberry choux, and for once I had food envy!

I love this place....
Real French patisserie and yes the pastries are to die for....I have so many favourites it’s hard to write about just one. Friendly staff are always welcoming and the owner is also very friendly. I fully recommend taking an hour or two out of your daily grind to visit this place, you’ll go back every time.
An artisan French bakery with a range of delectable temptations. A smiling face took my order for a Kangaroo Pie, a Raspberry Croissant and Hot Chocolate. Another smiling person brought out the food and drink. I'm already liking it here.

Chunks of delicious kangaroo filled the pie, with carrots giving it a wholesome sweetness. There was definite skill here making a pie with pastry so soft and flaky it was almost like a croissant. The kangaroo was well cooked but not tough. The Raspberry Croissant was just a delight - definite yet subtle. The hot chocolate was giant but a little watery for my liking, with the lightest hint of peppermint it's almost like I imagined it.

Wonderful service in a cozy, vintage setting. They make their cakes, quiches, macarons and variety of offerings on premise. This place is a jewel in the competitive dining landscape in Brunswick.

Had the most awesome vegetarian salad here. It was sooo delicious. Was so cheap too and had a coffee with it too which was less than 15 easy. The salad had lentils and a variety of other ingredients in it too. The whole thing was tasty.

Place is a simple place but you get what you pay for and extremely good value. Didn’t try the hordes of other foods but will some time in future.

Got savers next door as the reason I found it when looking for a 70s outfit. This place was a nice find!

Cafe in Sydney Road that also happens to make all their pastries in the premises (you can see them making from your seat). Great coffee and tasty pastries and even options for vegan and gluten free diners.
Muse-to-Dine
Drove past decided to stop in. Unfortunately our experience was 2nd rate. Ordered croques x3. The first 2 came out being cold inside and with no crusty crunchy top that i am atleast used too. After we told them, it was cold inside, the 3rd one was atleast half decent. Mocha was weak, double shot cap was weak and only warm! We were overcharged for an apple turn over that i never ordered. They kindly refunded it though. The new worker was apologetic all the way through but it didnt make our experience any easier.

This is a little French bakery on Sydney road which makes amazing crispy buttery croissants just like in France. They also make delicious savory croissants & cakes. I recommend everything in this store!

Been to Choukette many times, not cheap but always enjoyable, and very French. Always a bit cramped as the shop in very narrow. Sad to say, found a fingernail in my duck pie last night.

Got some of the eclairs and chocolate slices the other day for dessert at a family event and the sweets were pure delight! Best treat was the chocolate slice thing!
Hello. Imnikki
Dropped by Choukette with the intention of grabbing a latte to go, but I was seduced by the cakes and pastries all laid out in the fridge and on the counter, winking at me and telepathically telling me to take them home. It was very difficult to only limit myself to one thing, but luckily my partner talked some sense into me. I settled on an almond croissant, and gobbled down the whole thing even before my latte was ready. You can’t really blame me - the croissant was soft and flaky, super buttery and topped with crisped almond flakes. A bit more flaky layers inside and this would have been perfection. The latte was also nearly perfect, let down by being a tad too hot at the beginning.

Served by 3 friendly staffs behind the counter, there’s not much of a wait to order, but there is only 1 barista pumping out the coffee. So do be careful of being tempted by the sweet treats while you’re standing there waiting.

They do vegan macarons! There was only one flavour available, may have been chocolate. The texture was exactly like non-vegan ones, there wasn't a strong chocolate taste though. Still very impressive. The place has a very cute little French cafe vibe to it. And they let you take home their food scraps for worms/chickens! Very cool place.

Closest thing to a Parisian cafe in Melbourne. Best croissants in Melbourne and we've tried them all. Closest thing to a French croissant in Melbourne.

Pros: I dropped by by accident after I went to Bunnings because when I was stunned by the french butter aroma outside their store, aaand yes I found a very beautiful and lovely croissant to kick start the morning. There's a chocolate dessert too but I forgot the name and it worths a special mention, well certainly I need more than just one visit. Oh yes, they have this french speaking day and I think it would be fun for all of french enthusiasts
Cons: None

It's a nice and intimate French cafe with house made pastries and cakes. The only cafe I've seen that have raspberry croissant and blue cheese croissant. The coffee was good and staff are friendly but it didn't quite have a wow factor. It's good but not great.

Delicious food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere. A Brunswick favourite of mine. Blue cheese and tomato croissants!! Yum! I always go here whenever I'm in Brunswick.

I was shopping in Brunswick and decided to walk in this area.
I'm glad I came here for a brief snack & coffee. I was warmly greeted by the staff, guy who served me was French, took my order. I sat down and soon after the meal arrived.
It was a delicious croissant which included ham and cheese. The coffee was excellent. I instantly felt it a great atmosphere. I was here around the lunch hour on a work day. As you walk from the main front seating area, there is also a back section where customers can sit.
A trendy, authentically French feel in this place!
I could see there is so much variety to eat here. I plan to return again to try out the other meals.
Most definitely my 'go to' place when I'm in the area next time!

Love this place. Cosy French cafe. Staff are friendly. Delicious coffee and pastries. Kid friendly. They make a good baby cino and give a free mini meringue on the side.
Kathryn FitzGibbon
Cheap easy place for breakfast! Best croissants and chai tea for $8. Staff are always friendly and nice. There's normally soft music playing, makes it to perfect cafe to sit and read a book in the morning on the weekend
Food For Thought
Cosy french style cafe. Lots of selection in savoury and sweet indulgences. Had the chocolate eclair and latte, perfect for an autumn pick-me-up! Very fast and friendly service as well.

Cute and cosy little caffe, service was exceptionally quick and very friendly. Really nice for an afternoon local outing. Will definitely be going back. ☕ ☕
Mini Pig
Best authentic French boulangerie in Melbourne hands down. Great for a small bit of escapism to Paris. Lovely quiches and pastries, that taste like real hand made food, and all the staff there are French which really makes you feel like you're sitting in a little piece of France in Melbourne.
South Yarra Food Lover
Fantastic croissant as always. Friendly staff. Tried the special raspberry croissant today. Flaky, with raspberry jam in it. Delicious. Highly recommended.

I Love this place for its high quality expresso and cheerful staff. I haven't tried all their cakes but to date my favourite is the summer delight. I sincerly recommend this café if you want to feel like in a "pâtisserie/salon de thé" in France.
Jonathan Dolatian
The best cafe in Brunswick, clean friendly and always the best quality foods and coffee plus amazing cake 😘😘❤️❤️ Would definitely recommend it to anyone, who loves cleanliness and a warm cozy feeling
Ciuccio Benevento
Been coming here for years, never let me down... Until today!!! Why pre tell do I have to pay the same price for a chocolate and almond croissant when its half the usual size? And why did the hobo looking hipster behind the counter forgo the tongs in his left hand only to use his grubby right hand to to bag my small dry tasteless croissants. WTH?
Mr. Sasquatch
Bloody delicious! The lamb pie is the best meat pie I have EVER had. A snug little joint with a nice relaxed feeling, super friendly staff. We got take away but will be back to eat in next time. New favourite cafe/bakery in Brunswick!
RnG
One of the best pastry shops in Melbourne! We were trying to find a new place for brekky and found this gem from Zomato. We tried Duck pie, zucchini slice, choc croissant and raspberry croissant for $22.70. All yummy and crispy! We will definitely come back for more!

They serve good coffee and chai latte! Highly recommended.
Isle
The Chocolate Royal Cake. Oh. So. Delicious. I love all their macarons too. Did you know that a few years ago they got awarded for best macarons? I think it was the Chai ones. Oh la la. Come down and try these yummies. You won't regret it.
Lilly Pilly
Delicious food. My son's favourite place on Sydney Rd. I personally love the Zucchini slice. The coffee is consistently good. The staff are all adorably friendly. Highly recommend.

In my opinion, Choukette makes the best croissants in Melbourne (or at least, the best I've found). Have visited on the odd occasion for both takeaway and dine-in, and always found the croissants consistently delicious - fluffy, buttery and crunchy. I can't speak for the other pastries served here but I do highly recommend to anyone who loves croissants!
Jason MM
Well, Im not surprised to see all the good reviews about this place. I have walked past this lace 1000 times and never thought much of it. Now that I have been inside and sampled their food and coffee, I will make it a regular.

Do yourself a favour, try it yourself

Like escaping from Melbourne and going to Paris for a little while. Wonderful. Try the almond croissant. I am disappointed every time I have one elsewhere! Once they gave me a baguette straight from the oven, and my kids ask for a macaron every time we are near it. The staff are friendly and welcoming. It's a lovely, warm and cosy spot for a cuppa. Don't miss it!
Georgina
You can tell that their croissants are fresh as they are soft, buttery and have a delicious crisp shell. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. Can't wait to try their pretty desserts on my next visit.
Kanchana Perera
Freshly homemade croissants and pastries tucked away in a little authentic shop on Sydney rd. I had a great almond croissant and a soy flat white. They use bonsoy and the coffee was great. Super friendly staff and a nice cosy atmosphere.

Each week they have a different croissant with a sweet filling inside. I had the green tea flavour which was delicious.

They also do a pay it forward concept. You can buy a coffee in advance for someone that comes in and can't afford it.
Tim
Love it here, their crossiants are delicious! Very fluffy and light! Macaroons are amazing definitely lives up to the name of best macaroons. The staff was very helpful and friend we will definitely be back.
Simon
I'm biased because I'm a regular but this are the best pastries outside of Paris. The service is great once they get to know you and the decor is a bit 1960s Ackand Street
Ye Liu
Cute little place, filling with the old French atmosphere. Crossiant is good but not the greatest I've ever had, but still quite a deal for 6.5 for a crossiant and cup of coffee
NAY
Beautiful coffee, best croissants.!!! I love the cosy surrounds and music. Attentive staff. Will definitely keep coming back.! I look forward to trying out their extensive range of cakes and they offer a variety of other meals.
Momo
OMG! Just had my breakfast yesterday. First, I could not believe the waitress when she told me "our food we propose is home made". But, she's right! Pure croissant ever! I got the deal : coffe+croissant for $6,45 which is really nice. One of the best quality of food, coffee and service on Sydney road! Will come back for sure ;)
Alex Charpentier
Just went there for a nice french breakfast feel like being in France having a true french croissant and a nice coffee ! Really like the French music as well great service I will be back for sure !
Merci !

Happen to pass by this pastries shop, to be honest the shop itself not stand out at all, but after google it then realised they sells the best croissants in town, so thought give it a go. I think will attract more people to go if get some renovation, having say that the retro style of the decor and setting fit in well at Brunswick, very homey cafe.
Forgot to take photo to show the croissant, i think is $5 deal for coffee and croissant, so consider quite cheap. However i still prefer the one inside south melbourne market. This one is not bad, but is 2nd place on my list. Coffee taste ok, nothing exceptional.
Dark chocolate organic banana, taste awesome. Not so sweet, very well balance, i would prefer the cocoa flavour to be darker though personally. The cake one piece i think is $6.90 cant recall exactly, but if you take away is slightly cheaper.
They also sell whole cake for special occasions, the price seems very reasonable, and the other individual display cake looks attractive too, would definitely consider to order whole cake for party next time.
Jen Dorjee
Beautifil croissants and pastries but sadly coffee was awful. No excuse in Melbourne really. Think I will just come here for food and take away. Pastries amazing and delicious.
Yorkstergram
Choukette is the best!! ! :') Was there again today for a bit of a pie+sweets snack. Note to the nosy, if you ever wish to walk by their caramel tart, don't, it's just the best thing ever created. Amazing pastry, caramel, mousse.

Hmm. Actually to come and think of it, walk right past and leave that last one for me. Haha.

And lets not forget the wonderful and thoughtful service! Also a great place to buy cakes for birthdays, celebrations, or any night you feel like.
Brunswick_Castlemaine
Excellent staff, super friendly and mostly all French! Pastries are to die for... I can't recommend the ham and cheese croissant with creamy béchamel in side, or the light choux pastries enough! Coffee is awesome too! Least pretentious cafe on the Northside! Best vibe.
Flomos Prod
Awesome little French place where you feel back there.. The products are always fresh and delicious and the cosy atmosphere is great to have a break from outside. Cheap and high quality, check the hand made marmelade, it's absolutely awesome!
Out And About
Perhaps one of the most under rates spots in Brunswick! Genuine french pastries and cakes all made on site by a French pastry chef. Unfortunately the decor doesn't really reflect the quality and quaintness of the food. An absolute must visit and one of my usual croissant spots 👌
Q
A great little French patisserie in Brunswick. The pies with buttery puff pastry served with salad is so delicious. Top it off with a coffee and one of their cakes will leave you going back for me. Service is always great there too.
Karma Clarke
Seriously beautiful cakes, pastries and bread. Their choukettes are also delicious. They are the best in Melbourne in my eyes, small fluffy with the perfect amount of sugar on them. So good.
I haven't tried their macarons, but I will next time I visit! They look spectacular.
Marine
Crazy French pastries !!!
I'm french and i can't belive find an authentic french bakerie in brunswick.
In particular the croissant, and the ham&cheese croissant are amazing !
the cakes are really really good too.

So if people search a typical French place or just a good coffee is the perfect place
Yasmin Forster
Beautiful cakes and quiches. Coffee was pretty good but lacked something however the freshly baked goods couldn't be faulted! Apparently the best in Melbourne for macaroons however the coffee eclair was delicious.
Atabaries
The Best Croisant I had in years!. Everything is made on the permise, the pastries, the quiches, the pies are amazing!
The coffees are also beautiful, and the team is lovely and always smilling!
What a great place!
Well done!

Utensils are dirty. Please clean your utensils!
Why is it that we have to always ask for a clean spoon or fork. Sometimes the cups that has pink lipstick stain on.
Have another look at them before handing out to customers please...

Great piece montee. We ordered our piece montee from Choukette for our wedding in February 2015. Around 120 croquembouche. They delivered in Werribee for a 50$ fee few hours before to be served. They were absolutely amazing and we got a lot of good feedback with guests asking us where they were coming from. We would not hesitate to go back there for any specific orders as this one.

Big thanks to nans and his team!!!

Overall we had a great night, and sampled many different dishes with a highlight on the Amethyst Drink, Karrage Chicken and Dessert...Service was good though I noticed that we have a couple of different waiters throughout the evening and meet the entire waiters team by the end of the night, due to a hiccup. Service was very fast, even when they go busy and it was loud....Will we be back? Yes, for the lunch special!
Lunchosaurus
The pie too was impressive, perhaps the pastry being the biggest triumph. Beneath its golden flaked shell was a rich filling with high quality mince and chunks of tomato. There wasn’t much gravy to speak of; it was more like a pastitso than a pie, but definitely delicious. With my meal I had a cappuccino ($3.20) which was a let-down; tasting of withered-away beans swathed in milk. Apart from the coffee, Choukette’s interior is its main flaw. Tacky

...one is met with smells, and sights that would melt almost any ones resolve not to indulge in a little French luxury. Showcasing a range of fine sweet and savoury pastries, as well as pies, hot chocolate, coffee, a range of biscuits, meringues, eclairs, the famous macaroons, and the list goes on!
Muffinandninja
Fantastic!. I've been a local at Brunswick for years and have been visiting Choukette for a similar duration of time. I love the ambiance, the music, the decor, the food and coffees, and the friendliness of the staff. I think they put a lot of effort into making their pastries, which they make super early in the morning - once I walked past Choukette at 4am and there were chefs there already preparing for the day. The coffees are delicious, they make one of the best soy decaf cappuccinos I have ever had. The salads and croissants are my favourites. Thank you Choukette, keep up the fantastic work!

'vanilla' service. It was a bit disappointing to head here on a rainy Sunday morning (relatively quiet inside) place our order of three croissants, which is said to be their specialty, only to have the male staff member mumble about our 'vanilla' order when we declined any drinks.

Croissants were really quite good, but the staff member's 'customer service' left a bad taste :(
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
Meh.. Bought a croissant from Choukette, which I heard is the best in Melbourne, it's next to Savers if you're looking for it. The pastries were in a basket in a glass case and there was a fly in there... that may have affected my review. The croissant was $3.40 and very nice and crunchy unlike the soft fluffy ones at Coles.

I like it but don't love it, not worth traveling that far out for it, but nothing wrong with it either. Though I did notice at Choukette that it costs $1-ish more for dine in than take-away, different prices for everything. Dislike. The guy at the counter was friendly, so that was nice. The place had a warm retro feel to it, like a place stuck in the past. To me I'd only get take-away.

curiousxcharlie.blogspot.com/2015/02/choukettes-croissants-in-brunswick.html

I'm munchin' on a great salad right now..... This is the best place to go for a fantastic salad. Always interesting mixes and really substantial and super cheap. Absolutely LOVE their lemon tart and tried their bread and butter pudding slice the other day which was great. The staff are a bit slow and klutzy at times, but I kinda find it endearing in an age where every damn wait staff in every damn café/restaurant has to be the consummate professional with overbearing BIG hipster personalities. The only thing I would say is they need to take the time when they are busy to look up and acknowledge customers who have just come in, otherwise you can feel a lil invisible. But hey, I'll vanish into thin air for this freakin' great salad I'm eating right now!

One of Melbourne's secrets. We come to Brunswick to baby - sit grand- children and have just discovered this incredible bakery. Everything we have tasted from chocolate mousse to apple tarts and to macaroons has been sublime. I don't think there is better in Melbourne ..now off to exercise!

Have been coming here for years. They make a limited selection of bread however if you want some you've got to be in early, especially on the weekends. It's sooo good & well worth the early morning start.
My family often orders celebration cakes here, the chocolate royal cake is amazing & the cakes are always presented fantastically.
I love the pies & the brûlée & they've recently introduced bread & butter pudding which is ace.
This isn't somewhere you go if you are worried about your waist line... But if you're going to splurge do it here. You won't regret...
Oh & the iced coffee has home made coffee ice cream in it. Very spesh!

A really terrific cafe. I've been to this cafe dozens of times. For a relaxed, inexpensive breakfast or lunch it is terrific. The staff are courteous and efficient. Great French baked goods.

What can I say, except for what an exceptional place! Seriously the BEST pastries outside of Paris! We sampled an almond crossiant, chocolate crossiant and a lemon creme sugar coated pastry that exemplifies perfection in French baking! Melbourne is truly blessed to have this hidden gem! I will go nowhere else now, the best of the best!

Best croissants in Brunswick. Don't bother going anywhere else. Choukette has the best croissants in Brunswick by far and I have tried them all. Pretty good coffee too.

Spectacular bakery. Spectacularly good French-style bakery and cake goods. I felt I was back in France at a Boulangerie/Patisserie Artinasale.

While the pastries are excellent, the same cannot be said for the French baguette. It was a real disappointment. Purchased on a Sunday morning, but tasted like it was baked a day ago. The colour should have been a warning sign, it was pale, lacking the brown tinge expected of a French baguette.

The coffees are terrific and the service even better. Very cosy and the dark-haired girl is a delight.

....coffee bliss..... Have been inspired to leave a message here just to let others (I obviously informed the barista) know that when you get that pang for a really good coffee.....this is your place! NO fuss, no fanfare and I was tempted to have another....I'm looking forward to going again!

Choukette has the best croissant in Melbourne even my 15 months old son can't get enough of it. The coffee is always great with delicious pastries. Definitely a must visit if you are around the corner.

Never been a huge fan of croissants..... ....but these guys are the exception to the rule. This fabulous French bakery's croissants blows all the mediocre pastries I have had in the past out of the water.

Also love their delicious filled baguettes -esp with blue cheese - yum! Nice place to try those special little French confectionaries and sweets that you always wondered about.... Not cheap, but definitely worth treating yourself to occasionally.

Good pastries, free wi-fi. I'm more attracted to stand-alone coffee shops than chains, but being an out-of-towner, Choukette is new to me anyway, and at least it's not S****ucks. Plus it has free wi-fi! So I stopped in for my AM caffeine and connectivity fix. Excellent flat white, but it's Australia, so what else? I'm liking the coffee eclair I'm having with it -- lotsa coffee-flavoured pastry cream inside a soft pastry. And Choukette's Florentines don't have too much dried fruit amidst the nut brittle and chocolate. It's all good!

A croissant from this place is such a treat. Just the right amount of flaky, buttery scrumptiousness!

Beautiful Danish, perfect amount of custard and fruit, the coffee was a winner aswell

Croissants. The day I went the ham and cheese croissants were served dry and burnt. The hot chocolate was lukewarm and had a strange aftertaste. Not recommended!

Nom nom nom. Ah ma gawd, best croissants AROUND. Especially the ham and cheese ones, they've got some kind of white sauce in the middle with the ham and then more melted cheese on top. Coffee here is great, you can even get it in a bowl like the French do if you want. Also, we've bought two baguettes from here, both delicious. Can't wait to taste more things from here but afraid of getting fat! Super affordable too. Coffee and croissant for $5.

Aweful service by one particular member. I used to come here a lot, but the relatively new male staff member has put me off for a long long time. Always rude the whole place is very slow on service. Coffee good, but staff member disgusting.
Isabelle
Their croissants are perfect: simultaneously light and decadently buttery! As coffee goes, there is still much room for improvement.

Great way to start holidays...Coffee & cakes at Choukette!

Eh,. I think the macarons have been over hyped, many were lacking in substantial flavor and were thin and hard. I didn't feel the shell blended with the filling in an airy manner, but rather two separate entities not exactly combining.

Dissapointment. After having heard some amazing things about this little cafe, I headed up to Brunswick. I am on a hunt to find the city's most amazing macaron. I was highly disappointed by the level of service provided by our waiter. He was very rude to our friend, not at all helpful and very dismissive. It got to the point where we nearly left the cafe. However, we had heard good things to we persevered. Must to our disappointment. I got a soy chai latte, the flavors were average and half of the mug was froth! The macaron was nice, if not a little crunchy for my taste. My friend got an ice coffee, which he said was nice but a little small for the price he was charged ($6), and a sandwich which was apparently pretty dry. So all in all I wouldn't recommend the visit. Not with so many other nice places just down the road.
